Entertainment / Re: Kenya Bans 'Kwara Kwara' Dance For "Increasing Immorality, Teenage Pregnancy" by Chiori(m): 4:40am On Oct 10, 2021 |
African administrators always showing foolishness. How does the dance promote immorality and early pregnancy? I've watched it, and it's nowhere near what it's being alleged to result in. Instead of facing up to the task of bringing good dividends to their people, they are banning a traditional dance. We have a long way to go. |

Abdulkadir, you have just demonstrated gross incompetence. Your posturing smacks of insensitivity and high unsensibleness. The only course of action left for you is to resign - for you have failed Nigerians and your boss, and turn yourself over to security agencies - to investigate your links with Boko Haram. Kapish! |

Anyone who narrows this thing down to Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa is just plain, foolish, stupid, and whatever invective there is. What has this case got to do with tribe? If Edwin Njoku were said to have won an award, we'd all be patting his back that he has done Nigeria proud. Now it comes to this despicable act of his, we all are saying Igbo, and peddling inter-tribal insults. This is the very reason people believe Nigerians to be dumb asses. Get your perspective right, and call a spade a spade. Stop this foolishness now. |

I know your brother reads posts about you on this site. I will kill you myself. I will kill you with my kitchen knife, because my bullet is too good to waste on you. You will die after 96 hours of being cut up. Even the SSS shall not be able to rescue you from me. As for you Muslims, steer clear of me for now. Health / Nosebleeding In A Child - Is It Normal? by Chiori(m): 9:01am On Jan 13, 2012 |
My daughter was born 7 years ago, and she'd been having nosebleeds quite early. I wasn't perturbed as I thought it would pass, like it did in my case when I was a young child. I went to spend the day with my daughter and her mother yesterday, and she had nosebleeds more than 4 times within the space of 3 hours. Her mother told me she's been having it more frequently since the last summer break, but that a friend of hers advised her it was nothing serious. I am concerned, and I want to consult a doctor. Should I go ahead, or should I quit worrying? I love my girl so much, and I want no harm to come to her. |

Politics / Absurd: Nigeria Customs Service Offers Job To Its Victim's Children by Chiori(m): 8:26am On Jan 13, 2012 |
For the duo of Musbau and Taoreedat Sanni, the death of their father, Alhaji Moruf Sanni, during a clash between the Ajilete community and officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has brought them sadness and joy. Moruf (a.k.a Yaro) was killed during the Ajilete clash in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. Although the Sanni siblings were happy that they were given employment by the NCS, they also remember the circumstances, leading to the death of their breadwinner and wished that he was alive. Musbau told Daily Sun: “For me, this event of presentation of letters of employment to me and my younger sister is sadness and joy. Yes, we are happy with the benevolence and magnanimity of the Customs service by offering us employment but we are also sad that our father is not alive. “For every situation, one must give thanks and glory to God. We are happy today with what has just happened to us. But we would have been happier if our father was alive. For me and my sister, we never dreamt of being employed by the Customs. That is why I describe the event of today as sadness and joy. “We can deduce from what has happened to us after the death of our father that he died for us. We shall keep his memory aglow and we shall continue to pray for the repose of his soul. He was one father who always stressed the need for his children to be educated. “Initially, when the Comptroller-General of Customs made the announcement during a condolence visit to our family, we thought it was another joke. But the presentation of letters of employment to me and my sister has foreclosed our doubt. We will continue to be grateful to God and the Customs for giving us this opportunity. “After the death of my father, I had thought things had finished with me, particularly my desire to further my education after my secondary education. Before his death, he always assured me that he would ensure that I see the four walls of a university. I am beginning to see that coming into fruition. “It has always been my ambition to be a graduate, but the paucity of funds from my parents made it impossible for me to actualize this. With this employment, I will not hesitate to bring the dream to fruition. “I receive the sad news through the social network, facebook in Lagos, where a friend posted that my father was shot dead in Ajilete. I play football in Lagos since I finished my secondary school. “I did not believe him, I thought it was a joke. The reality of the sad event dawned on me when I started receiving telephone calls condoling with me. I rushed home and saw the lifeless body of my father.” Presenting the letters of employment signed by Mr. G.B. Makarfi on behalf of the Comptroller-General, Mr. Dikko Inde Abdullahi, the Ogun State Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Richard Oteri, lamented smuggling activities in the area which he described as alarming. According to him, the employment of the children of Sanni was a fulfillment of a promise made by Abdullahi. He said the NCS was greatly worried by the incident: “This is a means of cushioning the effect of the unfortunate incident, by providing employment for two siblings of the late Sanni. The NCS believes while the duo work with the Service, they will be able to take care of othq2qer members of the family.” Oteri said the NCS had love and indeed concern for its host communities across the country. He disclosed that Ajilete had always been a flash point and lamented that the unfortunate incident was not the first, but prayed that it would be the last. He charged the traditional ruler of Ajilete, Oba Dauda Akinlade, to enlighten his subjects that the NCS officials were on national assignment and not to be seen as enemies: “We do not take delight in causing problem for the host community. We have no evil intention of being here. We want you to tell your subjects, particularly your youths that they should be hospitable to us. This menace of smuggling will not help anybody. Rather, it destroys the economy because revenue that is supposed to be accruable to the government is usually lost by smuggling.” Eze Ndigbo of Ipokia Local Government, Eze Emmanuel Ochidere, expressed delight at the gesture of the Customs: “I have been long in this area; I can tell you that I have never seen this kind of a thing. I am glad that a government official promised and went ahead to implement it. I give kudos to the Comptroller of Customs for abiding by his words of providing jobs for the children of the late Sanni. What he has done is worthy of emulation by other departments and agencies of government. If this is done, it will always bring harmonious relationship between the host community and the government agency like the NCS.” Oba Akinlade lamented smuggling activities in the area: “I am not a hard man to deal with. I am soft, but I don’t encourage smuggling or the type of thing that we experienced on July 28, 2011. I responded to a distress call in the morning that Tokunbo boys were attacking them. That a masquerade was among them. “It was the mention of the masquerade that made me to act. On getting there, I discovered that those were Ajilete and Oke-Odan boys. They were just too many. I did my best to pacify them and left the scene. (Is it not rather absurd and callous that the NCS should offer employment to children of a man killed by them? Much like telling them to join the people who killed their father - an insult to the man's name and memory.) |

Nairaland / General / Special Guide For 2012 by Chiori(m): 5:05pm On Jan 01, 2012 |
You are welcome to the year 2012. It is with joy that you are grateful to be alive to have entered in it. Congratulations, and my best wishes go out to you all. Indeed, at this dawn of the year, we all have aspirations; we’ve most of us made resolutions; there are expectations of what the year should spell. That is all in order, for anyone without a dream, a vision, a focus, shall make no headway this time around. It is as you make your plans and forecasts that you launch into the path of success and fulfillment. As you enter into this New Year, you must realize these: governments are clueless, economies are collapsing, revolutions are the order of the day, instability pervades the land, and bleakness threatens to obliterate prospects; people make promises, but they may never be fulfilled, for the vagaries of human existence may alter the will and wherewithal to do as they would; you build up structures, but these may not tide you over in the rainy day. Even humanity is confused, with the argument over the rights to express same-sex love, to procuring abortion, and the whole lot of such issues. There is no constant, and nothing is certain. But there is a way out of this maze. There is a name given by God, by which humanity would flourish, if it places all its hopes on that name. It is the name of Jesus Christ. That is the name, the code which renders every good and desirable thing accessible to all as would put their trust in it. The only way for you to maintain focus and accomplish your set goals, despite the storms that will beat against you, is to place all your hopes upon the name of Jesus, calling upon Him in good as well as bad times. His name is embodied in the message of the Gospel. Let God’s word fill your heart, let it be your chief conversation, and let it guide your affairs. So shall you find grace to excel this year. HAPPY NEW YEAR! HAVE A COLORFUL 2012!! |

Politics / The True Picture Is Coming Out by Chiori(m): 10:01am On Dec 31, 2011 |
The influential Islamic group- Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI)- yesterday reacted angrily to the statement credited to the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, that Christians will henceforth defend themselves, saying that the CAN leader has, by his utterance, declared war on Nigerian Muslims. But the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) disagreed with the JNI, arguing that those who have been bombing churches are the ones that have declared war on their fellow citizens. The Secretary General of the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, at a press conference in Kaduna where he spoke extensively on the letter presented by CAN to the President on the Madalla massacre, described the CAN President as "intolerant." He said Pastor Oritsejafor's conduct was unbecoming of a religious leader. The JNI scribe said: "He went right into the heart of Aso Rock Villa to threaten the government and to say whatever he had to say before the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also accused the Muslim leadership, the religious scholars and other leaders within the Muslim community. "He blamed the attack also on religious and traditional rulers whom he said are not publicly condemning this upsurge of bomb attacks. This statement is an unguarded utterance and is intended to incite and instigate Christians against Muslims in this country. "In essence, the man has already called for war. He said that there is going to be a civil war in this country. It is very astonishing for such a person to say that Muslims have not condemned the act when more than two dozens of prominent Muslim scholars have condemned what happened at Madalla. "Apart from that, the governor of Niger State and other traditional leaders have been there. The Sultan himself has declared that the attack was unIslamic and yet, he said that was unacceptable. We don't know whether he wants us to jump the gun and arrest faceless people whom the government has not been able to arrest and then kill them by shooting them. "What he wants is for us to apply jungle justice on them. Do we have that legal authority to begin to chase people that we don't even know? Therefore, this statement is contempt on the Sultan of Sokoto who is the President General of Jama'atu Nasril Islam and Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. It is also contempt on the Muslim clerics who have come to condemn these acts. "Where were they when Muslims were attacked during the Eid-Fitr celebration that preceeded the month of Ramadan in Plateau State where Muslims were attacked, killed and maimed? Sixteen people were not only slaughtered, but roasted and eaten. "Why is this thing looking like a conspiracy of silence from the media both local and foreign? Are Muslims animals? Are they not citizens of this country? Why is it always silence when something happened against the Muslims. Who reported the Southern Kaduna genocide? "Are you telling me that there were no Muslims killed in the Madalla bomb blast? In Maiduguri and Damaturu, was it not the Muslims that were killed in their numbers? I think that the CAN President is an intolerant person and his statements are pregnant with very dangerous trends that are capable of telling Christians to attack Muslims. "I think that his statement is even more dangerous than these acts and I think that the government should call him to order. The government should call him to order for going to Aso Rock and calling the government incompetent before the President. How can you say such things and say you want to pray? "Oritsejafor has gone further to criticise Islam and called Islam all sorts of names and according to him, they are ready for war against Muslims. But Muslims are very tolerant people and we are calling on all Muslims to be calm and be law abiding and continue to be prayerful against this trend. "We cannot be intimidated by these threats and intimidations. We are peaceful people, we respect the laws of the country and we cannot jump over the fence of government because they are charged with the full responsibility of providing security for the lives and property of the people. "Therefore, we will not go beyond that. We will not attack anybody. It is very disheartening when the western media says that Nigeria will disintegrate by 2015. There may be an underground conspiracy to achieve that by creating chaos in the country. "The Sultan has said it loud and clear that Muslims are not at war with Christians, but Oritsejafor says that Christians are at war with Muslims. As Muslims, we will not lower ourselves to such unruly attitude." However, in a statement in Kaduna, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria said the Christmas day bombing at Madallah was shameful and a crime against God and humanity. It called for prayer and fasting by all Nigerians on December 31, 2011. The Catholic Bishops in the statetment signed by Dr. Alaba Job, said by bombing churches, Boko Haram has apparently declared war on the nation and called on Muslim leaders in the country to take immediate steps to stop the movement. They said: "The Boko Haram have claimed responsibility for this shameful crime against God and humanity. We use this opportunity to call on our peace-loving Muslims, especially their leaders from the political, economic, social and religious spectrums, not only to publicly denounce but for their own good and the good of Nigeria, to be proactive and to do everything positive to end this movement. "This group has apparently declared war on Nigeria, and at times of war, nations count on their reserves. It is apparent that if we depend only on our available active security agents, we shall not make progress. I therefore call on Mr President to recall retired experts in criminology and employ foreign experts in this field to assist the active security agents to put an immediate end to Boko Haram menace." I think the Muslim leaders know that their game is up, and they are reacting angry even when they were not even referred to. |
