Following the approval given by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government has lifted the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria effective from Thursday 12 midnight.

The Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement and Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, disclosed this in statement Wednesday.

He explained that the approval was given following a memo written to the President by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12am tonight, 13th January 2022.

“The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim. In the Memo, the Minister updates and requests the President’s approval for the lifting based on the Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement’s recommendation,” the statement said.

Recall that on 5th June 2021, Nigerian government suspended the operation of Twitter through an announcement made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alh Lai Mohammed.

The Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 60 suspected internet fraudsters during an award ceremony at Conference Hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun.

Spokesperson for EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

The EFCC operatives arrested the suspects at an event tagged “Peer Youth Awards’.

Nomthi, the wife of Taiwo Odukoya, senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, is dead. Pastor Odukoya announced her death in a post on his Instagram page on Tuesday evening.

According to him, Nomthi “battled cancer for the better part of two years.”

According a report by Vanguard, late Nomthi who was a member of the Church was said to have not “been involved in church activities for a while” prior to her demise.

A federal high court in Abuja has convicted Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), on charges of money laundering.

In 2019, Maina was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) — but he pleaded not guilty to a 12-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.

Delivering the judgment on Monday, Okon Abang, trial judge, held that Maina stole over N2 billion belonging to pensioners, “most of whom have died without reaping the fruits of their labour”.

The judge said the former PRTT chairman is guilty of concealing his true identity as a signatory to accounts opened in two banks – UBA and Fidelity bank – by using the identity of his family members without their knowledge.
