Hope graduation is not this year?
Just apply for the individual on us embassy website. Then equip the person with an invite. The person should be able to prove he/ she will be back after the grad. It is the home ties that really matter. Then financial capability.

Thank you for your response.
My graduation is this December and I don’t know if it’s late or not to start applying for them. Also, are there sensitive personal documents I have to equip them with other than an invite and probably my i20 and transcripts?

Please, when is this? Cos, I went to their office yesterday to book and was told Lufthansa has been flying student and they even had to put a call through to the airport when I told them about the EU COVID-19 restrictions. Was told there has been no problem whatsoever.
I booked lufthansa on the 5th of this August after confirming from someone who knew a student that flew lufthansa of recent. I tried to book mine, I was debited, no receipt. I had to hit them up, then after confirmation of my payment using my first name and last name( it was tough tho), I was asked which visa category I'm having, I told them F1. Next thing I heard was "kindly be informed that this itinerary won't fly". I asked more and they said they don't carry F1 passengers. Next thing was a revert of my payment. So, just make sure of ur communication with them so u won't be stranded at the airport. Lufthansa was the cheapest for me then. I forgot to mind the restrictions placed on flying through european countries. All the Best!

Don't book lufthansa if you are a student cuz it won't fly. My money nearly lost. I notified them and they had to refund me. Sapa almost caught me. About 640k

1. What does ground time mean

I'm having a 1hr gound time in Dublin.
It's nothing. You guys won't disembark (come down from the plane). It's a technical stop over. Maybe refuelling. I'm flying same ethiopian airline and have same in my itinerary too. I called wakanow and they cleared me on this. The ground time simply means the time u guys will spend on ground while technical work is being done. After the 1 hr u guys fly back enroute chicago.

Thanks bro. But not exactly accurate.
Turkey is not on USA covid19 red list. Only Schengen countries (mostly western Europe) currently have some restrictions.
Check this out : https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/from-other-countries.html
Also, there are exceptions to these restrictions which includes students resuming this fall >>https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/presidential-proclamation-on-the-suspension-of-entry-as-nonimmigrants-of-certain-additional-persons-who-pose-a-risk-of-transmitting-coronavirus-disease-2019.html

BTW, transiting an airport WITHOUT going through their immigration and customs nor leaving their airport, is not the same as legally visiting that country, which you need a visa for. I don't think a student coming to the US who switches planes in Turkey or ANY OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRY will have any issues. Turkish airlines flies into the USA every single day. Same with British Airways, AirFrance, etc.
Check out the USA CDC website and Turkish airlines website. Any student traveller who has a negative covid test result within the last 3 days before travel, is good to go.

Thank you! smiley

Well, I heard it clearly from the VO's mouth. He didn't say turkey is on US red list sha. But he said I should avoid turkey, britain and other european countries. I share your point of view brother. There's no way these airlines don't touch down US soil every blessed day. I, personally would love to book especially turkish airline cuz it's a bit cheap. (Not all that cheap tho). The cheapest I saw last night and booked was 741k ethiopian airline. But you know, Obedience is better than sacrifice! It's in the Bible.

Is it legal to fly to the nearest/cheapest airport and finish up with train?
Flight fares are crazy now. Cheapest is 790k. Very legal to fly into the nearest/cheapest airport then connect to ur final destination on a bus, train or local flight. But you have to book the local flight before time. Let's say together when booking for ur international flight.

Visa denied this morning at Lagos embassy. Gurus please help me take a look and suggest ways to improve. I got no funding from the university so my COA was $40K.

Me: Good morning madam
VO: no answer
VO: Pass me your passport and i20
Me: I did
VO: starts typing then asks where are you going?
Me: I am going to pursue a masters degree in Animal Science at the University of Nebraska Lincoln
VO: what are you doing presently?
Me: I'm a poultry farmer
VO: So what will this degree do for you?
Me: My goal is to pursue both my masters and PhD at the same time in the same unl which I have discussed with my supervisor. After my PhD, I intend to return to Nigeria to take up a lecturing job at my alma mater. I have always been interested in teaching agriculture to students and I love to give back to my alma mater where I earned my 1st, degree. A PhD in animal science will position me as a great candidate for the job.
VO: points to i20 and asked who is paying this $40000?
Me: my uncle
VO: what does he do?
Me: he is a real estate investor, who manages my late grandfather's real estate properties in Lagos and Abeokuta. He was the one who sponsored my high school and college education and I lived with him all through my time in college.
VO: How is he going to pay?
Me: I have his bank statement with me as well as my late grandfathers will wherein he stated that proceeds from the real estate industry can be used for the educational programs of his children. At this time I wanted to pass the bank statement to her but she said no.
VO: what type of account does he have?
Me: savings
VO: Does he have a US account?
ME: NO. I will be the one to open the account when I get there and he will send the money into my account and then I will pay it to the school.
Me: Passes the financial statements to her again
VO: (She collects it and cross-check. The statement has a balance of about #30000000)
VO: Okay but I'm sorry you did not qualify at this time. You can reapply.

Twoods, Fairheart, lagosismyhome, other gurus, pls kindly contribute your thoughts
I think the VO might have pardoned the statement you made on from masters to PhD. I think the VOs concern was how your uncle was supposed to pay for the tuition and other fees. Nowadays, I think showing or having SOA with high volume of cash in it does not convince the VO. But, how the money can be accessed. That's why he)she asked does he have a US account. Me, I really want to know the answer to that question because that question was the decider in his case.

Status: APPROVED
Abuja Embassy July 12th 2021

My interview lasted about 3 minutes. Here we go:

Massive palls of grey and black clouds hovered above the beautiful city of Abuja, a clear indication that Rain was warming up in the sidelines of the heavens, as I hopped into the waiting Bolt taxi which I had ordered a while ago. It was my first time in Abuja, I should say. As we drove from my lodge to the embassy, I admired the smoothness of the broad roads, how it gleamed in the distance, how it reminds me of the head of Papa Ajasco of Wale Adenuga production, and the many towering, foggy and greeny hills which rose like the back of an elephant from different corners of the city.

I arrived the premises of the embassy around 6.40am but we were not allowed in until it was about past seven. As expected, there was an heavy presence of people I would, I beg your pardon, call "embassy rats", those people who try to sell you water while you are in the midst of an ocean. Those who would say, Bros you go need passport o. Bros make we staple your form. Bros this. Bros that. But I ignored them all, except for a woman, I would later find her name to be Rose, who volunteered to take custody of my phone at zero cost. I rewarded her handsomely later, anyways.

Once the order came that we could proceed into the interview venue, I joined other applicants, mostly students, into the interview venue. We waited for a long time before a Nigerian man came into the waiting lobby to begin what seemed to me as a confirmation of appointments and documents. To save the reader's time, I went through other protocols before my turn to meet the VO, to meet with destiny eventually came. The place was window 8 and sitted there was a pretty, young, and stern-looking white lady who was just dishing out rejections like Akara.

VO: Good morning

Me: Good morning ma

VO: Pass me your i-20 and passport then place your hands on the scanner for the biometric capture.

Me: Okay ma. (I passed the documents to her and placed my hands on the scanner)

VO: I see that you're going for your doctorate in Sociology at MSU

ME: That's correct.

VO: Tell me about the research you plan to conduct

Me: My research is in the area of cybercrime and access to economic opportunities. Precisely, under the supervision of Prof XYZ I will be investigating the correlation between access to economic opportunities and youth involvement in cybercrime.
VO: Okay. Alright (kept typing into the system). Is your research going to focus on Nigeria?

ME: (VO give me through pass, I no gock am) Yes. Nigeria has had several issues with cybercrime in recent times. My research will be focused on Nigeria.

VO: Tell me about your plans after your studies

Me: I plan to return to Nigeria to take up a full-time lecturing job. I've always wanted to become a professor of Sociology. I also plan to publish academic papers that would interrogate and proffer solutions to the challenges of Cybercrime in Nigeria.

VO: Okay. So you plan to become an academic?

Me: Yes.

VO: Okay. I will be approving your visa. (Hands me the white paper and begin to talk about Covid-19 protocols bla bla bla. My ear don already block like ghetto soakaway. Lol

Me: Collects white paper with thanksgiving in my heart and left smiling.

NB: Take your case to God in prayers even if you're an atheist. The issuance of visa at the embassy, in my opinion, is 30% hardwork and 70% grace, if you like call it luck. However, this is not a liberty to relax. Work hard and also pray hard. I will advise whoever is attending the interview to be straightforward with answers. Only say what you are asked to minimize the risk of saying things that might potentially be used against you by the VO. Also try as much as possible to make your responses unique.

SPECIAL APPRECIATION
I am grateful to my friend Seun in the US who helped me throughout this visa application process. I am also thankful to my friend Babs who never gave up on me. Of course, I also thank all the beautiful people here whose transcripts and inputs have helped me tremendously. Big shout out to Fairheart who gave his expert opinion on my last rejection and encouraged me to apply again. To those who are still dreaming, don't give up. Cheers!

Big Congratulations! Brother Man

How do you send them a mail/reminder

When I applied for EA, after uploading my documents, I got an error to fill the captcha properly. After I did that, I clicked on the sumbit button, only to observe that my documents are no longer available.

I think my request will be denied. Please how can I mail them

So sad it happened that way but don't lose hope. It still can be fixed.

Send a mail to them using support-nigeria@ustraveldocs.com put in the subject ur emergency request i d then type ur message as it touches you, attach ur documents to the message then send it.

If u don't have ur request I.d, no problem tho. Just send it with the omitted documents. They'll sort it out so far it's the email u used in creating ur visa profile.

Not yet. But certain they will.

You will get an email from them. But know this: two things are involved. It's either they approve you or they deny you.

Send them a reminder. If u have done so of recent don't do again, and pray for a positive response from them.

Hopefully, we will all be approved.

I will try it and I will get it. It's not my first bachelor's, it's my second. The problem would be if it's my first, and at 29.

Don’t let anyone discourage you here cos that’s what some people do. If you have a good reason why you are going for second degree and it makes sense to the VO, you will get your visa. There’s no direct path to visa interview as everybody story is different. Have seen people personally who got there visa even tho what they studied in undergrad doesn’t relate with what they are going for, what matters most is your career, that’s why they ask about your work experience on Ds-160.

Thank you, I highly appreciate this comment.

Chief, you have a lot to do I must be sincere with you. First of all, your chance is very low to secure that VISA by going for another Bsc rather than progressing by doing Msc instead. Why can’t you do WES Evaluation of your HND and use it to apply to CVE instead rather than another Bsc in Biomedical Science which is totally different.

Secondly, Your age too is another factor to be look into for you to have decided to go for another Bsc which will serve as a ploy to escape Nigeria as I’m sure you will be above 23-years old if you are to be honest about your profile.

Thirdly, You will use a lie to cover you many lies in which it will not help you at all as you are switching from Engineering to Biomedical Science. Also, the issue

Fourthly, Do you have financial support at all for that your second degree?

NB: I am not discouraging you rather than been factual with you and I don’t RULE OUT GRACE that may work for YOU!

I will turn 29 this October. Actually my dad is a radiographer. I chose biomedical engineering to be a technical consultant based on servicing Medical equipments to give good results. Cuz the guy that services my dad's medical equipments bills him high knowing the technicians are scarce.

I have the full funding from my dad for the four years.

I don't know if my genuine reasons are convincing enough.

I'm going for a second bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering. My first bachelor's course is civil engineering but in a Polytechnic.

Please, I need help on what more to say to defend my intent on why I switched.

And also, in my I-20 it doesn't show second bachelor's, only bachelor's. How would I defend this?

My I-20 again doesn't show the name of my course of study. It only shows the faculty name which is Engineering technologies/technicians.

Please, help me on how to go about all these in my interview.
Thank you all.
