Celebrities / We Need A Ministry Of Entertainment – Osita Iheme by Chukwuma111: 9:39pm On Jun 27, 2020
We need a ministry of entertainment, says Aki and Pawpaw star, Osita Iheme

AFRICA Magic Viewers Choice Award-winning actor, Osita Iheme has called on the Federal Government to establish a ministry of entertainment for the creative industry.

“We need a ministry of entertainment where we can say if you have any problem go there and report, where the entertainment industry will be having budget every year just like education, security, agriculture,” Iheme said.

The diminutive actor advised that the ministry should function like other ministries in the Nigerian government with budgets rather than inaccessible loans. We need a budget for entertainment, we need a budget for the creative industry whereby the creative industry will be able to have their own budget every year that they can use to do whatever they want to do.”

The Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) made this known in a recent interview where he spoke on matters concerning the entertainment industry and way forward.

“We need them (Federal Government) to come and create that infrastructure for us because they keep bringing money but at the end of the day, some people in the industry can’t even access the money.Bank will say bring this and that collateral, at the end of the day the main players of the industry can’t even access the money which they provide for the industry,” the comic actor began.

Continuing, Iheme said, “Also a lot of people who are not even in the industry will just come up and register an entertainment business, go and pick the money or they have one way or the other to access this money or the structures.

People in the entertainment are suffering putting their money, a lot of people don’t have these structures to access this big loans, when you create these loans you have to create a platform where people can be able to access it, understanding the sector which you are providing the money for, understanding the people in that business, you don’t just keep the loan as normal loan’s whereby you would be requiring for some collateral you know that these people cannot provide and you want them to access the loan.By then the commercial banks will tell you to bring this and that, and you know this is a new business and people do not have that kind of structure you are requesting of them to do, they are still building up because this is what they started on their own.

So sometimes if they are providing all this money they should make sure the players are able to access it or even they can forget the money and use the money to build infrastructures inside the business so that technically we will be sound, financially we will be okay.”

Iheme insists that the Federal Government should give more unfettered attention to the creative industry. “Let them reduce referring creatives sectors to bank loans, many sectors who are not doing well like the creative sectors have their own ministry, there is a need for us to have our own ministry because we create a lot of jobs, we contribute and are the biggest employer of labour in the countryA lot of people come out of school and don’t have anything to do, they fall into creative sector and they get employed, empowered, I am a living example of that and government need to look into it because there is a lot of money in it but because of the oil issue, they think that this industry is not making anything, no that’s wrong” said Osita.

On how the entertainment industry has evolved over the last decade, he said: “I can say we are doing great even though we need some financial and technical support, even though we have been clamoring for the government to come in; we are not calling the government to come and bring in money, we are calling the government to come in and help us in building some infrastructures, help us in developing studios because we started this thing by ourselves, we hustled, made money and started shooting movies”.He, however, noted that though cinemas are springing up in the country but a majority of them are private sector-driven, making it difficult for movie directors and producers to interact because the cinema owners want to make their money adding that it will be more accessible if the government-owned some of such avenues.

He also advised the government to make available structures like cinemas, studios where creatives can shoot films rather than ‘jumping around peoples house trying to get locations’ and give credence to the entertainment industry so that ‘big boys’ in the country will invest in the entertainment industry.Osita is considered to be one of Nigeria’s most prominent actors, he was often typecast in the role of a child. In 2003 he rose to fame when he starred together with Chinedu Ikedieze in the comedy film Aki na Ukwa in which he played the role of Pawpaw.

In this role, Iheme played a mischievous child. He has played the role of a child in many of his films but later has adopted more mature roles.
Education / FUTO Student Reveals Current State Of The School Library by Chukwuma111: 8:33pm On Jun 23, 2020
A Student of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), identified as, Okpara Francis Chinedu, has called attention of the school management over the poor ‘online’ state of the library.

According to him, “this June makes it exactly 6yrs FUTO library has been using a poorly designed WordPress blog with a dot WordPress dot com free domain name.

“The library started using this site since June 18th, 2014 and haven’t found any need to move a step ahead up until today.

“If you’ve been to the futo library, you will agree with me that they’re doing great stuffs there but their image online through this website will make you think the library is another trash Nigerian Library.

“I’m not trying to praise or speak ill of the library, I’m just beckoning on the department to represent properly the good works they do offline, online, at least for the school of technology that we are.

“There are a thousand and one guys in FUTO who can improve this site or blog per say to something more representative, myself inclusive. You can’t have drums and still drum on your chest.

“This site should have been at your subdomain library[dot]futo[dot]edu[dot]ng (Which currently leads to an unsecured page dead-end when visited from the school website) but since you’ve decided to run it differently, it should be run with at least a custom domain name and never, I repeat, never on free WordPress[dot]com And for the current design;

With just ‘Home’ and ‘About’ on the site menu making navigation to resources very difficult. This is not how the catalogs in our library are arranged and we’re able to find books easily and this is not what the library team taught us in our first year in the university.

With the poor content setting on homepage. All contents shouldn’t appear in full on the homepage, they should just have their excerpts with a ‘Read More’ button leading to the full content.

The WordPress logo shouldn’t appear in your favicon. Like that is too unprofessional to say the least.

The footer. Infact there’s no footer on the site. Just a credit area to WordPress Which you can certainly do nothing about since you are on a free plan on the platform.
I hope this gets to the library department of our great citadel. One of the leading schools of engineering and technology in Nigeria.

I’m Francis.”

Health / Israel Shuts Schools As Pupils & Teachers Contract COVID-19 After Reopening by Chukwuma111: 8:25pm On Jun 07, 2020
Nine Schools in Five Cities Closed in Israel After Pupils Contract COVID-19

Nine schools across the country were closed on Wednesday after pupils there contracted COVID-19. The Ministry of Education reported that 2,000 pupils and staff members were placed in quarantine or told to self-isolate, bringing the total number of people under quarantine in connection to schools to 6,831. According to the ministry, there are currently 244 pupils and staff with confirmed COVID-19.

Three schools in Tel Aviv – Hatarden, Hagalil and Keshet – closed their doors and will move to a remote teaching mode by Friday, after one pupil in each of these schools was found to be sick with the coronavirus. Two high schools in Bat Yam – Milton and Shazar – were closed after three people were found to be sick with COVID-19. All pupils in these schools have been placed under quarantine. One pupil in Be’er Sheva was found to be sick as well, leading to the closing of the Gimmel comprehensive school she attended.

The multi-disciplinary school in Hadera was also closed after two more pupils were found to be sick, in addition to a pupil and a teacher. The school’s 2,196 pupils, 217 teachers and 33 administrative staff were instructed to go into quarantine. Two schools were closed down in Jerusalem as well: the Seligsberg high school, with two sick pupils, and the Zalman Aran school, where the number of sick pupils rose to three.

Over the last week, schools were closed in Holon, Ashdod, Rahat, Ar’ara and the al-Kasom regional council in the Negev. All pupils and staff were sent into isolation until epidemiological tests are completed. The Jerusalem Municipality has suspended extracurricular activities until further notice.

Last Monday, Education Minister Yoav Galant announced that any school in which a confirmed case of COVID-19 is established must be closed. Galant’s statement came a day after the Health Ministry distributed its recommended procedures when a confirmed case is established in an educational institution. The procedures, designed by Prof. Siegal Sadetzky, head of public health services at the Ministry of Health, recommends closing institutions in which more than three cases of COVID-19 are determined.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting on Monday to assess the situation regarding an outbreak of the virus in reopened schools, after which he said that studies would not be suspended in a sweeping manner, only in cases of contagion.

Politics / Why I 'celebrated' Abba Kyari's Demise--ex Kano's Commissioner by Chukwuma111: 10:23pm On Apr 19, 2020
The immediate past Kano State Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural Development, Engr Muazu Magaji, who was relieved of his appointment following alleged unguarded utterances he made against the person of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari, has finally cleared the air of what he actually meant.

The former commissioner in a statement he issued on Sunday, said he did not celebrate Kyari’s death but people misunderstood what he meant.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had through the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, in a statement said the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural Development, Engr. Mu’azu Magaji, removed from office following his unguarded utterances against the person of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari.

He explained, “I want to sincerely clear up what a lot of people may have misunderstood and set the record straight. As a Muslim and a patriotic Nigerian, I was only misunderstood by people to think that I celebrated Kyari’s death, the truth is I did not.”

The former Commissioner added, “Not only that, I made several posts mourning Kyari’s death on my same Facebook account and through my special assistants, but the general public couldn’t commend such, rather tend to capitalize on a phrase post that was given another set of definition and direction as well as negativity in other to tarnish my reputable image as a member of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration and his loyalist and that of our national party, APC.

“The use of “win win phrase” was basically an attempt to explain the Islamic Promise on the people that died as a result of any kind of pandemic. The late Mallam Abba Kyari was privileged to die as a result of COVID-19, making him among the beneficiaries in Islam. He is conferred with the automatic privilege of martyrdom.

“Our Rasul S. A. W assured on the path of martyrdom in Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Jihad wal-Siyar. Even Sheik Isah Ali Pantami has taken time to explain more of this. By this, the death of Mallam Abba Kyari is a big win for him, which is almost the dream of every Muslim.

“On the other hand, Nigeria equally has the opportunity to restructure the office of the Chief of Staff, where I called Mr. President to ensure that we can utilize the pandemic challenges into more strengths, by disintegrating the power of the office for a rapid administrative flow, which over and above anything, our constitutional democracy is meant to achieve and function so often.”

Engr. Muazu Magaji said, “ln an emotional reaction to my posting, agents around the office of the late Chief of Staff misunderstood my whole meaning, infuriated from the loss of their benefactor, as such petitioned my principal, His Excellency Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State, they twisted the narrative with explanation completely out of context and lacing it with religious and cultural connotations that made it necessary for our Principal the Executive Governor to show leadership and solidarity with the dead by relieving me off my position in Kano State as his Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural.”

The former Commissioner said he is confident that the Governor must make such a difficult decision as a conditional sacrifice to appease the aggrieved individuals who were bereaved, especially from their loss. “I understand the difficulty of the circumstances, both from misunderstanding my post, to the Governor’s decision and in general the pains of people in Abuja. I understand perfectly well.

“Wholeheartedly, I want to use this opportunity to reiterate that as a devout Muslim, I could not have celebrated the death of any human being; because it’s against my culture, social civilization and most importantly the teaching of my religion.

“I equally want to appeal to all people, especially those in Kano to give people the benefit of doubts by accepting their explanation on what they actually and truly mean by themselves,” he explained.

He apologised for any misunderstood action, reaction and inactions, adding, “We are all in a difficult time that anxiety, worries and depression make understanding and misunderstanding very difficult. I am so sorry for any pain I might have caused both the families of the late chief of staff and my boss, His Excellency Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. I am forever loyal to my boss; the Governor of Kano State and indebted to all the people of Kano state.

“I want to plentifully remain grateful to His Excellency for the opportunity he gave me to serve my state under his administration and am pleased to leave not on account of fraud, insubordination, dishonesty, treachery, disloyalty, betrayal, act of incompetence or undermining the government or the people of Kano; but due to this unfortunate misunderstanding and miscommunication of my Facebook post. I assure you that everyone will calmly understand my meaning by revisiting everything I’ve said. I am only human; perfection is never part of our creation.

“I pray for Allah to grant the late Chief of Staff eternal rest in AlJannah Firdaus and give his family and associate the fortitude to bear his loss. May Allah continue to help the people and government of Kano State to achieve higher advancement
