ATP GUIDE

TEETHING IN CHILDREN

What is teething?
Your baby is teething when his or her first set of teeth, called primary teeth break through the gums.

When does teething typically start?
Teething usually begins around 6 months of age. But it is normal for teething to start at any time between 3 months and 12 months of age. By the time your child is about 3 years old, he or she will have all 20 primary teeth.

The lower front teeth usually come in first. Upper front teeth usually come in 1 to 2 months after the lower front teeth.

What are the symptoms?
Some babies are fussier than usual when they are teething. This may be because of soreness and swelling in the gums before a tooth comes through. These symptoms usually begin about 3 to 5 days before the tooth shows, and they disappear as soon as the tooth breaks the skin. Many babies don't seem to be affected by teething.

Babies may bite on their fingers or toys to help relieve the pressure in their gums. They may also refuse to eat and drink because their mouths hurt.

Many babies drool during teething, which can cause a rash on the chin, face, or chest.

Mild symptoms that get better usually are nothing to worry about. Call your doctor if your baby's symptoms are severe or don't get better.

PLS NOTE!!!
TEETHING does not cause fever, diarrhea, diaper rash, ill appearance or lowered resistance to infection.

CAUTION!!! Blaming teething for fevers can lead to a delayed diagnosis of ear infections, urinary tract infections, meningitis and other infections.

CAUTION!!! Blaming teething for crying can lead to a delayed diagnosis of ear infections or other causes of pain.

There are 2 reasons for the onset of infections between 6 and 12 months of age: The loss of transplacental antibodies and the developmental milestone of chewing on everything.

How can you help your baby be more comfortable while teething?
Here are some tips to help your baby feel better while teething:

Use a clean finger (or cold teething ring) to gently rub your baby's gum for about 2 minutes at a time. Many babies find this soothing, although they may protest at first.

Provide safe objects for your baby to chew on, such as teething rings.

If needed, give your baby an over-the-counter pain reliever e.g. Paracetamol that is labeled for his or her specific age. Read and follow all instructions.

Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20, because it has been linked to Reye syndrome, a rare but serious disease.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against using teething gel on a baby's gums to reduce pain. The gel can make a baby's throat numb. This may cause difficulty swallowing. The medicine in the gel may also harm a baby.

The use of teething powders and mixtures are strongly discouraged.

Teething - When to Call a Doctor

Home treatment usually helps relieve minor teething symptoms such as discomfort, drooling, and irritability.

But talk to your doctor if your child has other symptoms that become severe or last longer than a couple of days.

Also, talk to your doctor about any other teething concerns, such as if your child:

Is age 18 months and has not had any teeth come in.

Has visible signs of tooth decay.

Has permanent teeth coming in before the primary teeth are lost, resulting in a double row of teeth.

Has a small jaw or a birth defect of the mouth or jaw, such as cleft palate.

Has any facial injury that has damaged a tooth or gums.

Your doctor may refer your child to a dentist who specializes in children's teething problems, if this seems to be needed.

Congratulations ma on your new born and a successful journey
I have a few questions to ask you because i plan to use HNWMC too but in the letter sent to me the pathology and paediatric fee was not included how much was it

And also how did you sort out your accomodation in Houston

The costs for these aren't fixed.
All things being equal, Pathology is usually between 100 and 200 dollars.
Pediatric is less than 700.

Congratulations!
Can you share hospital email and doctor email/phone/name ?
Also, where you stayed?
We are planning for sep-oct but can’t reach their website from our region.

Thanks

Houston North West Medical Center. I used Dr Xydas.
I stayed at a rented apartment.
For the email/ phone number, I believe that constitutes as advert here and I would be bringing a rule.
Send me a generic mail.

Hello fam! I am back to Nigeria after a successful journey. I had applied for a medical visa which was granted. I arrived Houston via British Airways at 35 weeks. I spent exactly 9 weeks.
Baby arrived 3 weeks later at HNWMC.
Doctor's fees $2000
Hospital fees $2100. The additional 100 was the hospitals fees for circumcision.

Baby's SSN came in the mail at exactly 5 working days.
Birth Cert was picked up at the Harris County after 5 days too. It cost $21. I was amazed at the ease. They are really organised.
Hubby had his notorisation appointment 2 weeks after baby was born. I received this 2 days later and scheduled an appointment for an expedited passport.
Passport was ready after 2 days. Costs $175

The pathology and pediatric bill came in at about 4 weeks.
At 4 weeks, everything was ready. So the next 2 weeks
was for holidaying, Lol.
Baby's ticket costed a whooping $450. I don't recommend British Airways to anyone for this kind of trip! I didn't even get a bassinet.

VOA letter was sent, the reply came in during the connecting flight so I couldn't print. I screen grabbed it and showed the officers. I paid $190 cash.
In all it was a great experience.
