Hamidu Tafida, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday appealed to Nigerians to purchase nomination form for him.

Nollywood Yoruba Actor Femi Adebayo, has explained that being an actor has made him do some terrible things such as slapping his father, Adebayo Salami, aka Oga Bello was one of them.

While speaking with Sunday Scoop, he said as an actor, one must be ready to do anything to play unbelievable roles. He stated, “I have been presented with scripts where I had to slap my father on set and I must do it as an actor , i had no choice . He has slapped me on set too countless times. A 30-year -old man, Basiru Audu, has been nabbed by the police in Niger State for allegedly abusing his six-year-old daughter in his house at London Street, Minna, the state capital.

It was learnt that his neighbours observed that the victim was walking awkwardly and on inquiry, were informed by the girl that her father “put something in her private part.”

Northern City News gathered on Tuesday that the suspect’s wife was away to their home town, Daura, Katsina State when he committed the act.

The incident reportedly occurred on July 16, when the suspect sneaked into the children’s room and had sex with her.

Audu told our correspondent that he had been having sex with underage girls before he sexually abused his own daughter.

He said, “I blamed my wife for not being around when I needed sex, she travels a lot and that was why I had to sleep with my daughter; what a shameful thing.

“That night, I was having a burning sensation to have sex and since my wife was not around, I had no option but to sleep with my daughter to ease off tension,” he confessed.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspect had confessed to the crime and regretted his action.​

Abubakar described the incident as unfortunate, saying, “When a father decides to sleep with his biological daughter, I think the world is coming to an end.

The woman who was assaulted by a police officer at a Midland Savings and Loans branch has reportedly received cash donations to the tune of GHc40,000.

There was outrage among the majority of Ghanaians following footages of a policeman mercilessly beating up a woman, later identified as Patience Sarfo.

In the said video, the police officer is captured beating up the woman despite she carrying a baby in her hands.

Patience had entered the Midland Savings and Loan banking hall after transaction hours to withdraw some money.

However, she was refused the transaction on the explanation that banking hours were over and that she could therefore not withdraw her money.

Upon insisting, the police officer, who has since been identified as Frederick Amanor, was called to drive the woman out of the banking hall.

The one minute-twenty-seven seconds (1:27) video which was apparently recorded by an onlooker captured the policeman abusing the lady, first hitting her with an umbrella and then later countlessly slapping her on the face, before dragging her out..

Several Ghanaians took to various social media platforms to condemn the actions of the policeman, who has since been remanded by the Police administration.

But in a rather kind gesture, Patience has received several donations from Ghanaians following her ordeal.
Reports suggest that she has received cash donations amounting to GHc40,000, as well as foodstuff and clothing.

Accra based radio station, Peace FM has made a donation of GHC 2,000 for medical bills and GHC 5,000 for her upkeep.

– Buhari mourns as 44 die, 500 houses destroyed in Katsina flood yesterday

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, expressed his sadness , grief and concern about the devastation caused by floods in his home state, Katsina, and other parts of the country.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President pledged the Federal Government’s support for the victims of the disaster.

Buhari said he had been saddened to observe the devastation and loss of lives caused by the floods in Katsina State and other parts of the federation.

He said he had accordingly directed the National Emergency Management Agency to do everything that would bring succour to the victims wherever they were.

“As rescue and prevention efforts continue, let me express the sincere condolences of my family, the government and people of Nigeria to all the victims of the destruction by the floods.

“Let me assure you that we stand ready to provide, within available resources, every assistance that is needed to bring comfort to those in distress,” the President said.

Governor Aminu Masari on Monday evening confirmed that 44 lives were lost while 20 people were missing in the overnight rainstorm that ravaged Katsina State border town of Jibia.

The rainstorm reportedly started about 11 pm on Sunday and it lasted over two hours.

The governor, who made the disclosure at a press conference in Katsina, said he had never seen such a disaster in his life.

He said, “You need to go there, it was a real disaster. As of the time we left Jibia, no less than 44 people were confirmed dead while over 500 houses were completely damaged.

“I have informed the President about the incident and he has called to sympathise with the people.

“As a government, we shall find permanent solutions to the problem.

“We know Jibia is a flood-prone area and we build drainage. But what happened was that instead of water to flow to the river through the drainage, water from the river was flowing back into the drainage, thereby causing the flooding during the rainstorm.

“We are going to redirect the water flow and I have passed out necessary instructions.

“We have also taken measures to ameliorate the sufferings of the victims.

“The National Emergency Management Agency has also been duly informed and they are sending relief materials to the victims.”

The Executive Secretary, Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Aminu Waziri, had earlier said, “What we are doing presently is to find temporary accommodation for those whose houses have been washed away or damaged. We must provide them where they can put their heads for heaven may open up again.”

“Sympathisers from our neighbouring country, Niger, helped us fished out two bodies from their river.”

Sources said that the rainstorm also damaged farms, while over 260 livestock including cattle, sheep and goats were killed.

The sources said areas that were badly affected included Tundun Takari, Dan Tudu, Unguwar kwakwa and Unguwar Mai Kwari.

The Ekiti governorship candidate of the Accord Party Nigeria, Mr Abiodun Aluko , has accused the Ekiti State Government of vote-buying for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

Mr Abiodun Aluko also accused the All Progressives Congress , APC of openly distributing N5,000 cash to voters to influence them to vote for former Governor and Minister of mineral resources Kayode Fayemi, who is the candidate of the party.

He said while the APC leaders paid N5,000 per vote, the PDP leaders paid N4,000 apart from the N3,000 they paid into the accounts of civil servants and pensioners who they refused to pay monthly salaries to.

Mr Abiodun Aluko said, “What we are doing is not election. It is money competition. The PDP started it by paying N3,000 into the accounts of civil servants and pensioners. I am a pensioner and I received an alert of N3,000 to vote for the PDP.

“I was shocked , I called the pension office to ask if my pension was now N3,000. They told me that it was meant for logistics to and fro, that we would meet on the field for the balance.

“The APC is openly distributing N5,000 per vote while the PDP is distributing N4,000 per vote. All okada unions have been given millions of naira to buy the votes of their members. On the surface, you will observe that there is no fighting but the absence of violence does not mean that there is peace in the voting unit

“Security agents turned blind eyes to the distribution of money which was done openly. This is so because there is so much poverty in the land and many believe that today is the only day they can get something from the government that has not done anything for them for years.”

The South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, who visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday has given reasons for his first trip to the Nigerian capital.
Mr Ramaphosa, who addressed the press after the meeting, said his trip to Abuja was the first outside the Southern Africa region.
Mr Ramaphosa, who was the leader of the governing African National Congress (ANC) party, assumed office as South African president on February 15 following the resignation of former President Jacob Zuma.
He said he decided to visit Nigeria, first to send a signal that his government intends to pursue an Africa focused foreign policy.
“But in pursuing that African focused foreign policy, we would like to deepen our relationship with Nigeria, seeing that Nigeria is the most populous country on the whole continent whose economy is the largest on our continent,” he said.
The South African leader said it is important for the two countries to develop and deepen the relationship between them.
“Deepen them at a people to people level but also at an economy level and of course underpinned by good political relations between the two countries,” he said.
At the economic level, Mr Ramaphosa said various companies from South Africa are already doing business in Nigeria and are in a way “diplomats of our country.”
At the political level, he said he took advantage of the visit “to thank the people of Nigeria and the leadership of Nigeria over many years for the support they gave to our struggle.”
South Africa experienced long years of apartheid regime in which minority whites ruled over the majority black population, leading to long years of struggles.
The apartheid regime came to an end with a democratic election held in 1994, which saw the ANC under the leadership of late Nelson Mandela come into power.
Mr Ramaphosa on Wednesday said “today, we are a free and independent country and this is largely due to the support that we got from a number of countries around the world but more especially on the African continent.
“Nigeria which is six hours away from South Africa was proudly regarded as a front line state because it was really at the front line of our titanic struggle against apartheid.
“Nigeria and indeed Nigerians never flinched for a minute in support of our struggle. In fact Nigerians even took it a little further, President Buhari related that Nigerians through their households contributed money into the Organisation of African Union Fund to support the struggle against apartheid.
“So, I took time to thank President Buhari and Nigerians for the support that we received during our struggle”.
What we discussed
The visiting president also gave an insight of what he discussed with his host.
He said they decided to deepen the relations between the two countries.
“To this end, we are going to focus on the Bi-National Commission that was set up between our two countries and make sure that the place where it is elevated to at the president level, is where the action should happen,” he said.
He also said top officials from the two nations will further discuss the technical part of a number of things related to the Bi-National Commission.
He said ministers from both countries will work on the various areas needed to deepen cooperation through agreements.
He said after all that, another meeting will be held at the presidential level so that what should be signed by the two presidents will be signed and implementation carried out.
“In this regard, we will like to have our next Bi-National Commission in South Africa. I have invited President Buhari to come for a state visit later this year when our Bi-National Commission will then take place,” he said.
He also said the meeting exchanged views on a number of important economic matters, particularly with regards to the oil industry and how South Africa can be part of the whole process.

Former Ghana AIDS Ambassador Mrs Joyce Dzidzor Mensah threatens to kill her children and herself on a pre – suicide post she posted on facebook.


In a Facebook post posted yesterday , Mrs Joyce Dzidzor Mensah wishes her soul and those of the children ‘rest in peace’, predicting July 7 will be their last day on earth.

“These are my three children. Today is our last day on earth. I have my last interview at 3fm this afternoon. I will then proceed to the village where my children are. Am going to kill them and kill myself. We are going to a place where there is no sorrow, a place where people will never call my children AIDS children, a place where I will not be judged wrongly, a place where there is no hunger. A place where my children will not be sacked for school fees, a place where we will not pay for accommodation. A place where no one will beat me for using their bathroom. May our souls rest in peace.”

The United Kingdom has promised to support efforts of the Nigerian military to secure the release of Leah Sharibu who has remained in Boko Haram captivity since she was abducted in February.

Leah Sharibu, a 15-year-old girl, was among 119 students abducted from Government Girls Science Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State.

All the girls were subsequently released except five who reportedly died in detention, but Sharibu, the only Christian, was held back for “refusing to renounce her faith.”

According to the Premier Christian Radio, the House of Commons (lower chamber of the UK parliament) discussed Leah Sharibu at pleanry last Wednesday.

A member of parliament (MP) for Carshalton and Wallington, Tom Brake, was said to have asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs for updates on his department’s discussions with Nigerian authorities on the prolonged detention of Sharibu.

In her response, the Minister of State for Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Harriett Baldwin, said the foreign secretary spoke to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on February 26 and extended an offer of additional support from the UK government.
“Attacks on schools and abductions of children are abhorrent and must stop. The government of Nigeria has said they are making all efforts to secure her release.”

“The UK is resolute in its support for Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram, and are providing a substantial package of intelligence, military and humanitarian support to assist in the response to the ongoing conflict,” she said.
