The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, is spearheading efforts to use local software application to remedy examination malpractice and failure in the country. The efforts resulted in the endorsement of exam software, BrainFriend which was designed to reduce mass failure in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME organised by Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, JAMB, among other examinations. Two companies, Cinfores Limited and WaveTek Nigeria which developed the software, last week signed a memorandum of understanding witnessed by the Technology Agency. According to the companies, the solution was developed to address the increasing rate of mass failure in national examinations in Nigeria through the use of Information and Communication Technology. The solution according to the companies will be a game changer and make more candidates to be successful in their national exams especially the forthcoming JAMB UTME and related exams. Meanwhile, the partners have customized a special version, JAMB BrainFriend, for the forthcoming 2015 JAMB UTME and expressed optimism that it could stamp out mass failure and high rate of examination fraud in the country. Local content Speaking on the development, the Director General of NITDA, Mr. Peter Jack, said the agency keyed into the initiative as part of its effort to deepen and encourage local content development in education and other sectors of the economy as mandated by the ACT setting up the agency. “Based on the transformation agenda of Mr. President, the Federal Government of Nigeria is doing everything possible to ensure that the Nigerian educational system is improved and made world class.“There is certain decline in quality of education in our country. “ The mass failure in UTME and other national examinations in recent years, is a mixture of many things including the non-availability of quality local resources to change the tide of mass failure and exam malpractice that has plagued the nation,” he said. He said that NITDA as an IT agency was committed to transforming every sector in the country through the introduction of ICT solutions. He pointed out that in its various efforts to ensure qualitative education in the country, NITDA would engage various local and international organisations to develop locally adapted solutions that will meet the needs of the sector. He added that the agency would do everything possible to support the solution and make it available to all the NITDA digital centres across the country, to enable the candidates access the software. More so, Jack promised to reach out to the NCC and the USPF to make available the software in their Community Communication Centres in other to extend the reach of the software to all Nigerian students, especially the candidates who cannot afford either a PC or mobile device to activate the software for their personal use. Why BrainFriend? In his remarks, the Managing Director of Cinfores Limited, Mr. Asawo Ibifuro, said the software has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, NERDC and NITDA. He explained that the customized version has many features including over 20,000 questions, answers and explanations, 19 JAMB subjects/ subject combinations for the major disciplines, prototype past JAMB questions, career counseling guide, quick references and study notes, performance tracking, summary and questions on the UTME 2015 special, among others. Also, the Managing Director of WaveTek Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ken Spann, said the two companies realized the danger of mass examination failure in Nigeria, a reason, he said informed the development of JAMB BrainFriend software. Spann who had earlier spent about eleven years promoting Microsoft Education via Microsoft IT Academies at Microsoft USA and Nigeria respectively, further enthused that, “Through WaveTek’s strong network in education, we are collaborating with Cinfores as their marketing partner and ensuring that BrainFriend is used by the over 1.4 million candidates registered for JAMB UTME scheduled for March, 2015″. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/brainfriend-software-reduce-mass-failure-jamb-utme/

LAGOS—The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has smashed syndicates specialised in the faking and distribution of Viagra and Kasapreko Alomo Bitters, two popular performance enhancing drugs registered in the Nigerian market. Announcing the arrest of the counterfeiters in Lagos yesterday, the Director General of NAFDAC, Dr Paul Orhii, disclosed that the agency has confiscated the dangerous products, with its estimated street value running into several millions loaded in six containers. The fake Viagra, the Director General noted, was labelled as Heragra and Ziagra, hinting that the counterfeiters who planned to flood the Nigerian market with the dangerous products also brought in unapproved dosage of Diclofenac, and Tramadol. “The unregistered Heragra and Ziagra brands of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) tablets are usually registered in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg but the intercepted unregistered Heragra and Ziagra came in strength of 120mg. His words: “These products are known drugs of misuse and abuse which can result in very serious health problems such as increased blood pressure, stroke, and ulceration of the gastro-intestinal tract. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/nafdac-smashes-fake-viagra-alomo-bitters-syndicate/ People get mind sha |

President of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy, Taiwo Adewumi, has warned the Federal Government not to withhold the salaries of the striking health workers, saying that such method would aggravate the situation. Speaking at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Tuesday, Adewumi said that the workers were aware of the plan to frustrate their efforts to press home their demands. He said the workers were eager to return to work but had yet to receive the Federal Government’s circular that would formalise the agreements already reached. He said, “We are aware of the effect of the ongoing strike on the hospitals involved. This is because hospital services require team work. No profession can stand on its own unless the team works together as a unit. The NSP is a professional body that shares in the principles of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy and we are also members of the Joint Health Sector Unions. The eight-point demands of JOHESU and Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals are still the same but it is disappointing that the Federal Government has refused to do the right thing. “Since the declaration, there has been a series of meetings with the government representatives. Six meetings were held between October 15 and December 24, 2014. The Minister of Labour and Productivity, who presided over the December 22, 2014 meeting, promised to meet President Goodluck Jonathan to get approval leading to the issuance of circulars on the said matters. “Out of the 10 circulars we are expecting, only one was issued which is the one concerning consultant status of other health professionals. We are ready to call the strike off but it seems the President is being fed with wrong information on the effect of the strike. That is why he has not issued the approval for our demands. We are trying to meet him personally so that he will understand what we are demanding.” Adewumi said the workers had rejected some of the recommendations of the Yayale Ahmed Report because some of the issues raised were matters that were still pending in law court. He therefore lamented the brain drain in the health sector, blaming strike and ill-equipped health institutions for the trend. He said, “Fifty per cent of physiotherapists trained in Nigeria are practising abroad because of uncertainty over their future and non-recognition of their status as major players in health care delivery. The Yayale Ahmed Report duplicated duties and that is one of the reasons why we rejected it. We rejected the office of the surgeon general so there is no reason for the report to introduce or recommend it again.” http://www.punchng.com/news/dont-withhold-our-salary-health-workers-warn-fg/ |

Just watching the poster above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ But come to think of it this is a mere propaganda i watched the video several time, all those he jailed, fire where all been persecuted based on the rule of law back then. Talking about the WAI, that was a great one, Nigerians to que up to enter buses or never to throw a paper nor sh.it on the street, that was a great one.. why now painting it black.. Then after IBB took over, what happened to Nigeria's corruption situation. Good i salute and support the power of women in the society. Sometimes when it comes to a serious business especially from a man, then the women should not be put first, imagine them saying buari never go to the church meeting alongside with Fashola and Adeboye with his wife. Damm that was cheap. PDP really need some jobs to do, as for me if i have decided to vote for Buhari then watched this propaganda, i will still go ahead and vote for him. ************************Modify********************************* I saw so many many lies in that videos. I am an hard core fela fan. Fela was angry on the fact that buhari Jailed him, not because fela was traveling with some foreign currency: Fela only came in with some foreign currency, which he was paid with for his show abroad, there was law on then on such regulation, that made fela to be persecuted based on that, in other to reduce corruption. Fela, later released a track beast of no nation, which talked about Buahri but the only accusation he gave him was GMB, strictness on discipline matter, which to me i saw as something that would have trained Nigerians let assume they allow it to happen the way GMB did it, we wont start writing DO NOT URINATE HERE on every walls. Damm so much lies in that video, like the photos of A soldier telling a police man to do some frog jump, that wasnt buhari's time. Based on the missing money, it wasnt during GMB's time the track of Fela, Army Arrangement said it all. They should not cut and edit what the great fela never said. All was during Obasanjo's time The video was so dumb and unprofessional honestly, it was a very cheap disgraceful stunt all those indomine headed opposition can come up with, now i see more reason why they signed the FOI's bill during this time.. Why talking about the death of GMB's daughter, shai this people no go kill me, what has that got to do with GMB as the presidential candidate. I am so sure and convinced that Fayose was the brain behind the video and the oga say go ahead. If GMB only agenda is to tackle, tries and jail corrupt officials, then we want him there. Corruption kills the Education Sector Judiciary Sector Electoral Sector Health sector Power Sector Revenue Sector Aviation Sector and on and on.... If the above sector sit up even in fear and do there job right then there is a better Nigeria 12 Likes 3 Shares |

LAGOS — The controversy over the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari’s academic certificate has shifted to the court, as an Abuja-based lawyer, Mr. Chike Okafor has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, to disqualify Buhari from contesting February 14 presidential election on account of false information given by the candidate in the affidavit he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in support of his nomination form.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/certificate-controversy-abuja-lawyer-drags-buhari-court/ 27 Likes 5 Shares
