NLC clashes with Governors, threatens war

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC has said that moves by the Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF to undo the present N18, 000 minimum wage to lower pay equals a declaration of war.

NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, expressed discontent over the move by the NGF to reduce the minimum wage.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress is shocked by the statement credited to the chairman of the Governors Forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari, that the N18,000 National Minimum Wage promulgated into law in 2011 was no longer sustainable because.............

Politics / PDP, Snoring As APC Assumes Position Of Ruling And Opposition, By Audu O. Audu by CynFerd: 3:01pm On Nov 23, 2015
PDP, snoring as APC assumes position of ruling and opposition, By Audu O. Audu

The clock ticks quicker than usual with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yet to identify with the role expected of an opposition party, and it has become apparent that perhaps they are yet to come to terms with the obvious reality.

While they keep snoring, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has upheld their role of the opposition even while in power.

Rather than developing astute moves that will match a ruling party, with enormous opposition experience, the PDP has rushed to zone the 2019 presidential slot to the North and gone back to slumber, lost in the dream of regaining power soon.

It is no longer news that the APC led government has encroached further into the media houses by enticing them to give excuses for their flaws and grant them soft landings in controversial issues.

The PDP, instead of making the most of the frequent gaffes by the ruling party since the 29th day of May, to regain consciousness, has continued to rely on Olisa Metuh’s grandstanding press releases.

Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State clearly does Metuh’s job better, he at least knows

Power Probe: How BPE Staff compromised Power Reform

The Senate Ad hoc Committee on Power has alleged that some members of staff of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE, compromised their office and the privatisation of the nation’s power sector by receiving bribes in form of luxury cars.

Chairman of the Committee, Abubakar Kyari, disclosed this at the Day Two investigation of all the financial allocations........

Power Probe: Why Nigeria’s power situation has struggled

Former Ministers of Power, Suleiman Bello and Bartholomew Nnaji have identified one of the major problems in the power sector as the incompetence of Ministers appointed to man the sector amidst issues of transmission.

Bello on Thursday, November 12, told the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Power during the ongoing power probe that

Super Ministers and other stories, By Reuben Abati

“Have you congratulated our new Ministers?”

“I am still thinking about it, actually. I don’t know whether to congratulate them or to commiserate or to pity some of them. They have merged Ministries that need not be merged. Some Perm Secs are now floating. Six months and this is it?”

“What kind of talk is that? You have come again oh”.

“I wonder too. At least you can see that round pegs have been put in round holes, and shame on all you doubting Thomases, our government is good to go.”

“”Who is talking politics? Can we discuss Nigeria and leave politics out of it? And please, leave that thing about pegs. Some pegs are neither round nor square, they are misshaped.”

“Everything is political.”

“I know. Very soon, you will also insist that that funny walking stick Ngige was carrying about, like the rod of Moses, is also political.”

When you elevate a government to a semi-divine status, you lose sight of your responsibility to hold government accountable. The ascribed, contrived, or self-imposed divinity of elected officials is a threat to democracy”

“Okay, what is your point?”

“I have said it before and I repeat it again. I still think whenever Ministers are to be screened by the Senate, their portfolios should be attached. It helps to prepare the prospective Minister mentally. It deepens the screening process, and makes it even more participatory.”

“There is no such Constitutional requirement”

“Everything doesn’t have to be in the Constitution”.

Buhari adamant despite Amaechi blunder

President Muhammadu Buhari has repetitively pledged his commitment to the fight against corruption, but has been accused of wittingly turning a blind eye to the massive corruption allegations trailing his political co-traveler Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi amongst others.

Amaechi, the immediate past governor of Rivers State and the Director General of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, 2015 presidential campaign and now a minister designate, has been embroiled in corruption.........

Ministerial nominee flays JAMB influence on education

A ministerial nominee and Vice Chancellor of Imo State University between 2000-2005, Anthony Anwuka has blamed the current Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, for the current challenges facing the education sector.

He accused the institution of converting the colleges of education into dumping grounds for students universities rejected and also blamed the recent merging of JAMB into the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The nominee who was being screened as a possible Minister of Education, stated this while fielding questions from senators during the just concluded ministerial screening exercise.

He decried the combining of the Examinations, for the Universities, Polytechnics.........
