Business / 8 Things You Didn't Know About Writing A Book by Dan2887: 2:17pm On Jul 20, 2019
You picked up a book in the bookstore or you saw a new book alert on your social media page and the next thing that comes to mind and your lips is, "It would be nice to have my book in my hand." Can you relate?

Okay, are you done? Can you wake up now and move from "it would be nice" and make that dream of yours a reality. Friend, the world is waiting to read your book, don't keep them waiting any longer.

So enough of drooling over how nice it would be to write a book and actually write your book. At the end of this article, you will be able to move from “I wish to write a book” to “I wrote a book.”

So how do you move from “I wish” to “I did it?”
To help you do that, I will be sharing on the 8 things you didn't know about writing your book:
Here is an acrostic (PUBLISH) to guide us:

Predetermine your course of action
Understand the need to have a WHY
Be settled on a subject
Let go of distractions
Investigate your subject
Settle down and write
Have a daily review

1. Predetermine your course of action
Ask yourself some real questions. What do you really want? Do you want to write a book or not? Settle this in your heart.

Settle it in your heart that you want to write a book. You tell yourself without looking back, "I want to write a book this year." Once you have established this clear goal of writing a book, you now plan how to achieve your goal. This leads us to step 2

2. Understand the need to have a WHY?
Now that you have chosen to write a book what then is your Why? The motive is always the most important reason that keeps us going even when the going gets tough. Until you have a solid why, then maybe writing a book isn't yet a serious business for you.

The truth is this: there will be days where you will feel like giving up on your book journey, it's your why that would keep you going till you finish it.

Personally, my why is that by not writing, I will be robbing someone out there of a knowledge that would help them. I don't want to carry a tag of a 'thief', so that keeps me writing. This is what has helped me write two books and put together a publication of minimum 12000 words every month. So, dear soon-to-be author, what's your why?

3. Be settled on a subject
So yes, you have determined your why, what is your book going to be about?

What subject are you going to write on? You can't be a jack of all trades and a master of none in one book.

You pick an area to write on. Whether it's on vision, social media, relationships, writing, etc. You decide that.

Here are some tips to help you decide:
-Your interests.
-An area you have knowledge in.
-An area you have observed there is little knowledge on.
-A need you can provide a solution to.

4. Let go of distractions
You have decided on your subject. Now, your book goal is clearer. So whatever may stand to hinder you achieving it, it's time to let go of it. You have a priority now—your book, focus on it!
After you have let go of distractions, the next thing is to investigate your subject area. This leads you to number 5

5. Investigate your subject
In other words, research your subject. Even though you already have some knowledge on the subject you wish to address in your book, you need to garner more knowledge. You need to soak up more knowledge.

As you research, you will identify loopholes on your subject which you can fill up in your book.
You will observe the pain points of your audience which you will provide lasting solutions to in your book.

So for example, you want to write a book on love and relationships, one way you can begin your research is to type in a search engine, "quotes on love and relationships." This will be a good starting point for you.

6. Settle down and Write
Your book goal will remain a wish till you write. You have to sit and put pen to paper. You have to write your book!

In writing your first draft, you are not to bother about errors. Your aim should be to finish the manuscript.

Finish your writing first, then get back to making it publish ready. Finishing the manuscript first should be your goal. Write till you are done.

Here are some helpful tips to help you write:

-Determine how much time each day you can create to write: Can you get 4 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour, 30 minutes to write in a day?

-Determine how many words you can write in a day: with the time you have created, how many words can you write? 1000, 500, 200, 50?

-Have a daily writing time and stick to it: choose a time convenient for your writing and stick to it. Say, 9-11pm, 4-6am, make a choice.

7. Have a daily review
The reason you set a goal is to achieve it. So in writing your book, review your progress daily. Checkout for what you can do better, what you need to stop doing as you make your book dream a reality.
