pix 1 and 2... i believe that's the location of the thermostat
pix 3... the thermostat i saw in the pigeon hole

P.S. The thermostat is stuck fairly open. i don't if that's how it supposed to be but i tested it using a pot of hot boiling water and it opened slightly. when i removed it, it closed slighty to it present position on the pix.
Car Talk / 1996 Honda Civic Cooling System Issue by danadam(m): 2:42pm On Jan 01, 2015
i recently purchased a tokumbo 1996 honda civic with a D14A4 engine which i runs extremely cold. I'm suspecting the thermostat has been removed because i saw a thermostat inside the pigeon hole. I don't know if i was removed entirely or replaced but the engine temperature hardly reaches the quarter mark on the temperature guage. The radiator fan also runs once the key is on ignition. My dilemma now is how do i restore it back to factory setting. My elcheapo mech will not be willing to assist since he's already saying "it's good the engine runs cold, no need for thermostat". Nairalanders what's the way out?

I stopped keepin bmws cos clowns in mechanic cloths. They abound everywhere. Fake parts also.

I discovered a very good, well equiped and modern worshop in my location in d north. Now i can comfortably own any car i desire.
I am surely goin back 2 bmw cos its my childhood fantasy.

Presently working towards an 09' 750i. I pray clearing allows me.
Wanted a 2006 model for the festive season, but my further research made me discover the 09. But presently beyond my budget. Its actually worth waiting for.

Where in the north do you reside? where's the workshop located? I will like to check em out for some repairs.
Car Talk / Re: Changing The Radiator Of Your Tokunbo Car From Single Cell To Double Cell by danadam(m): 5:23pm On Dec 27, 2014
abatically:

This is indeed bullshit. Tropicization my foot. A quick question, in cities like Windsor Ontario, do they change their radiator to double cell and remove their thermostat in the summer? Because in their summer their temperature gets as high as 28 ℃. Also during the summer in Arizona USA, their temperature get as high as 35℃, that is hotter than the temperature in kano, do they also change their radiator and remove thermostat? Car manufacturers test their cars with extreme weather conditions before putting them on the market.

I drive a 2005 Honda accord that was imported from Canada and I don't dare remove the thermostat. I have the factory single cell radiator and been driving it for 3 years now without any problem. Oh and I never bypass my cooling fans. It is a joy to watch the temperature meter rise to the optimum temperature within 2 mins after starting it in the morning. Engines are meant to run warm and can only perform when the temperature is at optimum. Using a double cell radiator and removing the thermostat will make the engine run colder for longer period which is not good for the engine. If u are experiencing overheating, the best thing is to fund out the culprit rather than removing thermostat all in the name of tropicalization.

You have said it all...

How can you say its bullllshit ..it worked for me

My friends Benz 400 ..it worked for him and if has been working so why the argument

Thermostat isn't for tropical useage. Take it or leave it

That's is experiment I have conducted so the best is to tropicalize the car and you know what it is

Then if you argue me..what is car tropicalization

which one is benz 400?
benz and bmw don't usually tolerate such abuse, try it and the car goes haywire. I personally would'nt dare try it with my W203.

Please people how does a toyota camry 1997 catalyst looks like and how do I know it has been removed?

I dunno what it looks like but your mechanic or panel beater can help you confirm if it has been removed by examining your car's exhaust system.

cheesy grin it means you have to wait for another 2 or more years because i don't see the price of that ride coming down to your estimated budget soon. Currently it sells between 6.5 to 7.5 depending on mileage and condition. Remember with this clearing rate hike, the price will even increase.

I will wait.... patiently. The plan is to use my W203 for 5 yrs, I just did 18 months so I still have over 3 mo yrs to go.

wow!! You drove for 18 months without the illumination? That's a good one then but i won't advise using octane boosters all the time. It can be used once in a while so that your vehicle doesn't get used to it and also try buying fuels in a good filling station(preferably NNPC) and not all these stations without names. Am seriously eyeing the 2012 W204 C350 and as soon as pepper complete,it must show by God's grace. The advantage is that it is equipped with direct injection engine.

Noted..
2012 MY W204 C350 is what I've in mind too.... but I will have to wait till it becomes more affordable to me.... 2.5m-3m maximum is the cash I will be willing to splash on a ride.

Yes it does require premium unleaded fuel and it shouldn't be below 91RON. Our fuel is unleaded quite alright but it isn't premium and the only solution is to be using octane boosters atleast to boost the octane points. I bought fuel last week and noticed it was oily like as if it was mixed with oil. That's one of the major reasons why our check engine light do illuminate on the instrument cluster sometimes.

I never knew, now I know better. I will have to search for octane boosters, I've driven my ride for 18 months without ever using the octane boosters though my Check Engine Light was once illuminated for 2 days.

You could try the 5 series.

The 5 series will be too big for me. I don't want the 5 series, E class, A6. I prefer the other 3 mentioned earlier.

Mercedes my brand any day anytime. But my issue with them is this premium fuel issue considering that Nigeria fuel isn't good. Some luxury brands doesn't require premium fuel but rather just normal unleaded fuel. Sometimes I don't even think we can get up to the required 91RON.

Does the w204 require premium fuel too? what's the solution since our fuel is not premium?

I also have love for the same cars as you, the E90 failed on my height test the car sits too low. The W204 won my heart when I noticed it shared some suspension parts with the W203 and its pretty cheap to run and I have a very good mercedes mechanic. I still have love for the Audi I might go that way when I want a SUV maybe the Q5.. if wishes were horses.

yeah that's true bout the E90. it can't be driven on bad bumpy pot hole ridden roads. I just want to experience what it feels like to drive a bimmer.

From the 2011 the w204 was perfected no Issues and wonderful interior. I would advice the C350 you won't regret it.

That's a relief. I was already thinking of diverting to E90 or an Audi A4. Well, when the time comes I will know which one to pick.

Sadly there is always an issue with the first batch most of this cars, right now I would take the last batch of the w204 with the better interior and free from ESL issues than the W205.

is the last batch of w204 actually free from the ESL issues? I love the car and i'm considering getting one for myself when I'm done with my w203 but I really can't afford over 300k for any ESL Issue, that's outrageous and ridiculous to me.

2. Kia Picanto (You go still get change)
3. Hyundai Accent (I ain't sure about this one, but it should be in that neighbourhood).

the 2014 picanto is far higher than 1.2million. I can give u a pricelist of kia if u want.

A mercedez benz c320 engine cost about 80k. How is that expensive?

I dont know about bmw but mercedes and audi parts arent expensive as people assume them to be.

and that engine will outlive the average lifespan of a japmobile engine especially when it's well taken care of.

Wat do u think about it

I'm with team lexus. I love some luxury and power which the lexus will offer more compare to the kia rio. It all depends on what you want from a car. I know a rio can't give me the confidence to hit 180 kmph when the need arises so it's a NO NO for me.
P.S. I drive a W203 4matic MY 2005 purchased for 2.4m last year and my grade is offi.... 2. So my guy, get the best car you money can fetch for you.

I wash my car if I have the time. when I'm occupied I drive down to a car wash..... but there's a certain joy and satisfaction i derive when I do it myself. I always have a feeling that the guys at the car wash can't do it better than myself. As for other mechanical DIY, the best i've done so far is to change some dead bulbs and replacing the weak car horn.
Car Talk / Re: Best German Car To Get? by danadam(m): 8:21pm On Oct 02, 2014
As long as you maintain a benz, you enjoy the car and you might likely find it difficult to change to a different brand. Maintenance is not as cheap as your average japmobile but the money expended will be worth the effort.
Car Talk / Re: Most Number Plates In Ibadan Are Lagos Number, why? by danadam(m): 8:13pm On Oct 02, 2014
pragmatistm: Not only in Ibadan. In many places you will see Lagos and Abuja numbers. The reason is traceable to Nigeria Police harrassment. When they see Lagos number or Abuja number they give you respect because they don't know whon you are related to at the top.

True talk.. though i'm based up north, the car I use for traveling has Abuja plate number while the knock about daily car has a local plate number.
