You have made the point clear my guy. What works for A may not work for B. It's important to have a clear picture of the hard reality before comming up with a strategy. Remember e go hard. I just don't want to be the one to discourage people. If you give at least 2hrs of your time each day to your studies you will be amazed how much you will achieve in a term. As for me I intend to pay my entire fees before leaving. May God open way for all of us.

Punkydude:

Honestly, there is no one size fits all. I strongly believe that what works for Mr A might not work for Mr B. Just know what works for you and you will be fine. The general truth is that Masters in the UK is quite expensive and also is considered a full time job. There is a lot of reading and researching to the done, and that their plagiarism software will frustrate anyone.

I remember when i started discussing this waka with a sibling who has been living in the UK for more than 10years, the greatest fear was "how will you complete your fees?" This is someone living in that system so there was no need to argue. It is not easy working and studying and that's simple. Let no one deceive you. Have you asked anyone living in the UK to borrow you £3k before, when they said they dont have do you think they are lying? We are talking of people who have full right to work oh, not to talk of you, who has just 20hr/week. Lets keep deceiving ourselves. Seeing is believing las las. But na the story we hear we know.I intend to pay 50% of my fees before leaving (the fees which is due next month self), just so as to have a soft landing. It is the school fees balance that is creating that depression and confusion. School never send you mail sha, e go be like say you thief their money. UK universities dont joke with that tuition, abeg no use am play with them. Lemme burst your bubble here, when you default they will yank you off the school network and simply contact Home Office / UKVI. There are so many people who started the Masters but coudnt complete it. Do not forget your POF says that you are super rich.

I know many cant afford it, but just know that it wont be easy for at least the first few months especially when first deposit is due. And please do away with any Nigerian mentality, it just wont work. We are going to face a new system and a new culture. One output will be an input to the next, if you miss one, it will take you a long time to correct it.

So many people didnt even research about the school they are going to, nor the course they are choosing, they simply chose the one that will easily give CAS, not in London with cheap tuition, i bet you some didn't read the course content, nor modules. That is where the problem starts from, you will struggle from the beginning to the end and then come here to tell us that the educational system is hard. Oga you are the idiot(no offense). You think this people will give you their certificate for you to come and embarrass them later. Mtchew. In the few online courses that i have joined, there were some students for resits and yes, they paid for those courses again. Some are going for something entirely different from their first degree, they never for one day researched the new degree; well they are Nigerians and they will find a way around it, good luck.

I know some just wan japa (who school help). I totally get it, but please remember that these guys have a system and they review their immigration laws every now and then. The best you can do for your self and the next generation going is to at least finish that course, try even if its hard please do. With a UK degree, they themselves will give you that respect. Plus your chances of trying other European countries are high. Lets not make life hard for the next set, they will simply suffer for the consequences. Do you you know that some countries dont need POF for their Masters, i bet our forerunners don go shit for church and we are suffering it now, who knows what rules we ourselves will make them put.

The cost of living in the UK is high, they simply have a system that works. Abeg no carry that useless HUSTLING MENTALITY go there, if you are that good at it why didnt you make it here. I hate when people have that mindset they can beat the system. It pisses me off when people argue it even in public. We keep rubbing our name and country in the mud thinking that we are smart, where has it gotten us to. You will suffer for everything because you are black/Nigerian. They will single you out and give you the most inhumane treatment simply because someone from your country beat their system the last time. Oga just get out.

Abeg try and have a least money to cater for 3 months, na you need and not anyone. Na you go suffer am if things so south. Do you know when the pressure comes; you just land, you never settle, you never see the plenty jobs self and then boom, your first deposit is due. You will be in between rent and school fees. E no easy abeg.

With discipline and a strong work/life balance, you will survive. There are 24hrs in a day, if you divide it well and follow it strictly, you will succeed. That 2 years PSW is the koko oh, do whatever you can to get it, if you loose na you loose oh, plus the money you don waste. Lets not talk about the things people do to retain their stay, that will be topic for another day.

My two cents. tongue

Take note I did not say it was gonna be easy I only said it is possible. Trust me I have juggled really difficult things in my life while studying I am not afraid of challenges anymore. "Where there is will there is a way". Let's stay positive guys.

Plus studying in the UK is same whether online or offline. It's just a series of papers, workshops, presentations and seminars. You must be prepared to do a lot of research and writing. If you manage your time properly you can succeed.

Additionally choosing a course of study where you have strength can give you a head start. But choosing a course you know nothing about sets u at a disadvantage already.

Just my 2cents.

justwise:

Dude you don't compare day and night, you got no idea what it means to study and work here, online study at your own time, no work or business restriction is not the same as the system here.

Well I may not have worked and studied in the UK, but I have Studied online for a UK post graduate degree from Nigeria while working full-time, running a demanding tech business on the side, being a husband and dad to 2 kids and still finishing with a distinction. So without a doubt I believe it's possible. It takes strategy.

justwise:

Have you studied and work to pay tuition fees in the UK before?

Great answer!!! Thank you for this. Just because the guy can't hustle and study doesn't mean others can't. Its time to learn how to work smart. The future of our families depend on this.

Callmed:
if you have been here for a month what should we now do about that? angry angry

So out of your busy schedule and "study competitiveness" you still have the time to come and type rubbish here.

Guys, come to the UK and hustle! If you're smart enough you will know how to balance school and work life. If you're not...you will learn.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nnpc Test Format, Please Help by danex(m): 11:57am On Oct 18, 2008
You didnt tell us what u applied for. Anyway i wrote their test for Operator/Technician position  2yrs ago i just hope its still thesame.
If u applied for an engineering position, u should expect the following:  1Hr General part  and 45mins Engineering Specifics Part. Part I includes verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and general knowledge. In the second part which is the most challeninging includes questions from all Engineering
Disciplines: Chemical, Producton, Electrical/Electronics, Telecomms, Mechanical and Civil.  So if ur preparing for the test i'll advise u brush up ur fluid mechanics and some energy physics in addition to ur discipline. And dont forget to pray. Its all in GOD'S hands. I wish U all the best.

Programming / SCDJWS Or SAP - Netweaver 04 Certification. Please Advice Me? by danex(m): 7:29pm On Aug 12, 2007
Hey guys i need Your advise on this.

i'm currently a certified Java programmer(SCJP1.4)  working in one of the oil & gas coys in Nigeria.I'm planning on taking SCJDWS soon. but every one is making so much noise about SAP now. And as it seems, most large scale companies are migrating to it.

Please, are there any experienced SAP Professionals or Developers in the house who can advise me on the following with regards to the current trend in the Nigerian Market:

Should I go ahead and take SCDJWS exam or consider SAP Netweaver 04 Development Consultant - Web Application Development Focus Java   certification or  SAP Netweaver 04 Enterprise Portal - Development Consultant - Enterprise Portal certification.

thanks.

Programming / Re: Who Do You Consider When Writing A Program? by danex(m): 10:32am On Jul 03, 2007
Ever heard of the word "ergonomics"? it is a term that describes how a user fits to his work as comfortably as possible. it is applied in every technology - cars, computers, electronics etc. similarly in designing an interface for ur users, u must first consider how a user will comfortably fit with the system. in order words u must consider the GUI design the will make the user work most comfortably as possible.
Programming / Re: Need Help Writing Vb Programs 4 Network Enviroments by danex(m): 5:19pm On May 18, 2007
if u really need to create a robust network based application, then switch to Java of .NET Immediately

cos VB wont serve u well.
Programming / Re: How To Become A Successful Programmer? by danex(m): 5:02pm On May 18, 2007
As Afam says u need passion. Passion must come first. try to love programming.

Next, have a fighting spirit. Be dogged and never give up.

Be patient also because I assure you you'll definitely get wired-up most times in very crazy codes.

Please i beg u do not think of money now.

And finally cap, it up with practice, practice and more practice possibly with a particular project.

I'm a certified Java Programmer(SCJP1.4) and this method worked for me greatly. I gave myself a simple project in which I worked on it for a number of months. Next I moved to a more challenging project that took me more time. in doing this its not completing the project that mattered but learning from it. I started with modeling a simple "text-editor".

You could try that too! It worked for me.

thanks for guys like u. at least we'll have some "java grannies" to help some "java youngstars" like us. u guys just came in time. i have a little problem. its not a bug but my app. is not working properly. i need to communicate b/w a JDialog and a parent JFrame. i'm quite familiar with simple text communications i.e from a password field from a dialog to a main frame. but in this case its a shape to drawn on a parent frame. i've tried the simplest getter methods to return my shape(panel) to be "caught" by my main frame. but didnt work! can u suggest any solutions?

yea u'r right am new to java but not to programming(5years+). i'll see if i can implement ur code. but the only problem is that my method of generating the Checkbox items was not using an array. i generated them automatically using the readline() function in a while loop.

anyway i'll try to implement ur code and send a snippet of my code to see if u can work with it. thanks a billion!

Programming / I've Got A Java Bug. I Need Help! by danex(m): 8:01pm On Jan 09, 2007
hi fellow java programmers

can anyone send help on the following:

i was working on an applet. the applet actually is an online music store that is expected to display a list of music titles based on the type of music selected (i.e country, western, pop etc). the lists are check box items whose names are called from a file. when u click on the music type it should automatically generate the list based on the titles stored in the file(  *.dat file).

heres my problem:

when a new music type is selected the applet is expected to clear the old list and paste the new one.
how do i achieve this?

anybody with a vivid picture of my bug should pls send help. thanks

Education / Re: NIIT Students by danex(m): 7:48pm On Jan 09, 2007
niit is one big house of bullshit, man. omo those guys are wayo, it's so sad. i, too, was in that their scholarship programme last year. i was in their java class for a couple of months. what a waste of time and money. when u remind yourself that they are asking for hundreds of thousands in fees, and then u see the mediocre teaching ,  it's enough to make u vomit last week's breakfast, sha. i quit them one time, and i strongly advise against going there. don't blow your money on them.

o boy i dont seem to agree with u. i think it depends on the center. u know its a franchise thing and some centers tend not to meet their standards. so if ur in lagos i suppose lagos center is better. and talking about studying solo(internet and ebooks etc), you should seriouly consider it. i mean check ur capability. good luck on IT endeavors
