to Tpiah: I agree with you partially regarding its staleness, but we as a nation are spending 1 billion naira on trashcans, 10 billion on celebrating a golden jubilee while our life expectancy declines and you say it's our nature? If it's our lot to suffer then why bother with the sham of democracy as we have it now?

I am fortunate to view these upheavals at a distance, but I would love to live and die in the land of my ancestors which is something I would not willingly do today because of the various failing of governance. And before the requisite "you are brainwashed because you are abroad" insults, understand that as Fela asked in Just Like That: Shay our leaders be good leaders abi dem be shadow criminals?

@labiyemmy:

The people killed, woke up like me and you, and made their way to celebrate Nigeria at 50 - but some hoodlums cut their lives short- why?

and someone in his or her right senses say well done to them?

I can tell you are really torn up about this. Consider that yesterday a few more of our citizens woke up like me and you and yet died as a result of starvation, preventable wrecks on bad roads, being shot in the back because they did not have anything to drop at police checkpoints, and yet the wheels of the NASS and Aso Rock continued to turn aimlessly.

Yes the loss of these 8 lives and possibly more are regrettable, but this is what happens when our government gives amnesty and plots of Abuja land to a few while neglecting the conditions that bred the militancy in the first place.
Politics / Re: Mend Strikes As Threatened, 7 Confirmed Dead by DanWaziri(m): 5:51pm On Oct 01, 2010
Since we have made our Primary 5 English teachers proud with all grammar we have blown on this thread, can someone answer this question. Were any of those almost 1 billion Naira trashcans destroyed in this whole jubilee explosion?

Since we Nairalanders can't do much to affect the efficacy of Aso Rock governance then I propose we laugh and await the next event that unites our collective thoughts in how much our beloved nation has let us down. I am out.

Ileke-IdI:

And who sowed anything? Those innocent people that had nothing to do with Odi?

You seriously need to get out of that revenge shell you're in. It's disgusting.

How can you excuse the murder of people because of what happened in Odi? Eledumare o!

He can excuse today's event because we all excused Odi, Maidugri, Jos, and need I go on? If we all accept the Nigerian Army becoming Judge, Jury, and Executioner in the name of "security" then we should not feign disgust when MEND utilizes those same tactics to bring attention to their cause.

MaziUche0:

Nigerian military destroys Odi (an entire town), no outcry.

MEND targets a few areas, HUGE outcry.

People need to get their priorities straight though.

My thoughts exactly. Those calling for the "flushing out of these creek rats" should remember there are innocent citizens that also call those creeks home. We all saw how soldiers did their work in Odi, Bauchi, Borno, and PH leaving behind the same conditions that precipitated the initial wahala.

In the midst of the carnage the message is unfortunately lost: A ruling class subjugating the citizenry while we are all blowing grammar, myself included.

OAM4J:

I have always supported many of MEND's operations. But this particular one is totally uncalled for and they were really ill-advised

Going to Abuja to kill innocent people is insensitive, callous and nothing short of wickedness. For God sake what point are they trying to make that warranted killing innocent people?

And let no one tell me there was a warning cos MEND surely do know as well as I that not many Nigerians read or listen to the news.

Mend have just lost a supporter in me. This is rather unfortunate. My sympathy to the family that lost their loved ones in this senseless killings. sad angry cry

Why Abuja and why today? Terrorism 101 - every TV station in the nation would be there, foreign dignitaries would be there, and Her Majesty's government would send a low ranking diplomat to grace the failure of Lord Lugard's creation.

This has generated more news than all the MEND activities in the last 10 years put together. Unfortunately the result is the re-engagement of the Joint Task Force and the extra - judicial killings that result when the Army is used to do police work.
Politics / Re: Mend Strikes As Threatened, 7 Confirmed Dead by DanWaziri(m): 3:04pm On Oct 01, 2010
The NPF spokesperson being interviewed by Femi Fani-Kayode says "the explosions did in no way disrupt the celebration of our golden jubilee." I just bow, I guess that informs our way forward in Nigeria. What's another 8 deaths as long we can sing Arise O'Compatriots, right?
Romance / Re: I Found A Box Of Condoms In His Car by DanWaziri(m): 8:03pm On Sep 28, 2010
So no one has even thought up this scenario: since they (the OP and said bf) use condoms occasionally perhaps he was getting a "more sensitive" skin brand for them to use. But trust an overly dramatic woman to get all confrontational and get in his grill before he has a chance to tell her that. According to her and most of the responses he is already cheating so bounce and let the dude get his sensitivity on.
Crime / Re: Gunmen Kill Efcc’s Forensic Team Leader In Kaduna by DanWaziri(m): 9:04pm On Sep 15, 2010
To Sagamite: My guy calm the eff down. You act as though you know for sure they are in fact threats. I stated my opinion that our esteemed corruption fighter so far has not exhibited a commendable track record. In the 2 years since she has headed this commission she has declared at various times that certain politicians would not be allowed to contest in elections and this is heralded as anti-corruption? Is she the head of INEC, is she the IG of the Police, is she a member of the bench? If she finds corrupt folk then arrest them and charge them, to date the highest profile arrest and conviction was of Bode George and even this was initiated by Nuhu Ribadu's EFCC.  I know our country is a nascent democracy dominated by the Pee-Dee-Pee, but the partisanship displayed by her office leads me to conclude the big boys of the party are happy with her not rocking the boat ergo no mention of death threats or talks of replacing her ineptitude.

I cry for this man's family as his integrity on the job cost him his life. Which leads me to ask is Farida Waziri really doing her job or should we interpret the lack of perceived or real threats to her person as her letting the big people chop belle full?
Politics / Re: Lagos Set To Provide Model College In Eti-osa by DanWaziri(m): 7:13pm On Sep 15, 2010
My people. While you can never have too many schools, Eti-Osa local govt already has a "model college" in Badore. It is now derelict and no where resembling what it was when I attended it. Instead of land acquisition(a.k.a. make-we-chop-government-money) why can't Fash renovate and expand an already existing model college?

carnal:

yes, ladies from seperated homes can go their parents way in the future and that's a known fact

It is also a known fact that we all gone die. Persons from split homes try very hard not to repeat the same as their parents. How do I know? I am one of them, happily married for 5 years and counting.
Romance / Re: Married, But In Love With Someone Else by DanWaziri(m): 6:06pm On Jul 30, 2009
Jose R.:

I have been married for almost 4 years. We do not have a bad marriage but I have found a very old childhood friend, that i grew up with. She lives far from me, but through emails and phone calls, we have falling in love with each other through time. I feel like i want to be with my childhood friend, but I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

We (guys) all have pictures of ex-es and still dream about that Bolanle in primary 6 that we could not grow the liver to toast back then, but then we grow up. You have a good marriage, is it worth losing over some fairly-used "toto" that you would soon discard when the next "childhood friend" calls?

P.S. To Bolanle - I am all grown up now and my email is hornydude@justkidding dot com grin

That is very simplistic. Yes all religions suffer from extremism, the difference is the Christians and Jews learned from our failed experiences of corrupting our worship of God with politics.

Abuzola:

Dan waziri, where the heck do you get the news that they burnt churches. You do know anything so go and sit down, were you not told not to meddle into discussion you know not.

The Tasine group never kill anybody so far, their assault still remain  focus on police. Any media that says they killed people is a blatant liar, i hear my news directly from the spot scene through the hausa media.

George bush and hitler the fathers of murderer who killed millions of muslim ain't blame but when it comes to scores they quickly point to religion, iskanci kawai. ! Whether you blame or not it will not deter us from waging jihad if your leaders oppress us. Up mujahid Dokubo

As usual the straw man is used. Bush and Hitler have nothing to do with what is happening right now in Nigeria. Hausa media? I guess the Reuters/AP/Guardian UK/BBC/CNN correspondents are making things up as usual, right? I commend you for at least tuning into media accounts, but you can at least read and write in english since you responded to my post. Many media houses currently online and not strangled by sharia exist in the South, take your pick and they are reporting, with hausa correspondents, chaos including burned churches.

my friend go and sit down!!!!

when muslims do things, they are judged on their personality and not islam

when a muslim errs, he is crucified together with his religion. . .

what kinda world are we living in sef

We all condemn what is goingon. . ,muslims around the country condemn it too

and the governor, Ali Modu Sherrif vows to eliminate all of them cos they are not nigerians. . .!!!

Boko Haram is fighting for you not to be on Nairaland. They want you to communicate by smoke signals and treat your wounds with cow dung and is it not amazing that they use your holy book and hadiths to justify these means of violence to a caliphatic end? You, Ali Modu Sherrif and the rest of the government that capitulated to Sharia in a secular Nigeria should still take that walk into the Sahara, preferably heading east as all "good" muslims should.

ALL FO U SHUD SHUT THE Bleep UP!!!!!!!!!! AND STOP SAYING THINGS U DONT KNOW!!!!!

WHAT IS GOING ON IN BAUCHI AND BORNO IS NOT TRACED TO ISLAM!!!

ITS A GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM NIGER AND CHAD WHO ARE CASING THE WAHALA!!!

THE MUSLIMS IN BORNO TOO ARE ALSO FIGHTING THEM!!!!

NOT ALL FIGHTS THAT ERIPTS FROM THE NORTH IS RELIGIOUS!!!

SOME ARE STRICTLY POLITICAL!!!!

PLEASE I STAY I THE NORTH AND I SEE WHATS GOING ON!!!

So because they are from Niger and Chad they are not members of the ummah. I did not realize once you crossed an imaginary border you were no longer musulumi. If as you claim it is not a religious fight, why are they burning churches and mobbing innocents while reciting takbir? You need to take a long walk into the Sahara without water.
Politics / Re: Urgent-JTF Needed In Northern Nigeria by DanWaziri(m): 6:22pm On Jul 28, 2009
My people, we all know what will happen if the JTF or some other variation is unleashed on these barawos. AIT, all the NTAs and radio stations would start playing military taps.

We go know say e don happen- "My fellow Nigerians, the ports and borders are hereby closed, you are to remain in your homes from 6 PM to 6AM and the Military Council headed by Maj. Gen. Aliyu Barawo is committed to a peaceful transfer to a democratically-elected government of our choosing and at a time that we feel like. Allah bless Nigeria."
Politics / Re: Nigerian Islamist Attacks Spread by DanWaziri(m): 6:11pm On Jul 28, 2009
I shake my head in amazement. Where are the voices of the Sultan of Sokoto, Emirs of Kano, Katsina and Borno  in all this unrest? Are they not the de-factos chieftains of the Arewa? Maybe I am just naive, but I bet the next durbar these bastards throw would be financed solely by the National Treasury of "one Nigeria" while their thugs mallams try to rend the already thin fabrics that binds all of us together.
Politics / Re: Islamists To Yar’adua: We Want Total Islam - PM News by DanWaziri(m): 5:52pm On Jul 28, 2009
As usual the "moderates" of Islam are quiet. Where is the condemnation? Muslims worldwide are quick to tell you, Islam is peaceful and these extremist are hijacking the ideas and teachings of the Prophet. So they attacks institutions of what we all think and hope is a secular government by killing policemen, burning buildings and of course what "religious" conflict in Nigeria is complete without Christians murdered and a few churches burned for good measure. I have stopped crying for my country.
Nairaland / General / Re: Info on how to get Firearm licence and permit by DanWaziri(m): 5:45pm On Jul 28, 2009
It is appalling how all you spineless fatherfuckers are decrying the OP quest for info. Like most countries gun ownership in Naija is optional. If you no want am no buy am, simple. I live in the suburbs of a US state where the police response is fairly good (i.e. they have gasoline in their squad car, they have bullets in their weapons and they are sworn to protect and serve), but I work in a rough part of town and so does my wife. There are now more than usual carjackings, muggings and sexual assaults. I can't be shadowing my wife 24/7 and neither can the police so she now carries a "midnight special" a.k.a a snub-nosed .380 Smith & Wesson under the state's Concealed Carry laws. It at least gives her a fighting chance when accosted.

While I believe no amount of property is worth dying for, my family's welfare and my dignity as its protector is on the line and my firearm is a great equalizer. If and when I do decide to make Nigeria home for more than a few weeks, I would be asking the same question the OP is.

Why? cos familiarity breeds contempt

So familiarity is non-existent in marriage? A relationship is only as viable as both participants want it to be (this is not a ground-breaking revelation). Married, shacking up, or whatever arrangement.

I hate girls with bad past, that just me, it’s hard for me to adapt with.
