I would like to shed a little light on this so that as many of us that truly understand the blockchain can go all out to harness the vast wealth in the blockchain.

WHAT IS THE BLOCKCHAIN
The blockchain is an undeniably ingenious invention – the brainchild of a person or group of people known by the pseudonym, Satoshi Nakamoto. But since then, it has evolved into something greater, and the main question every single person is asking is: What is Blockchain?
The term "blockchain technology" typically refers to the transparent, trustless, publicly accessible ledger that allows us to securely transfer the ownership of units of value using public key encryption and proof of work methods. The technology uses decentralized consensus to maintain the network, which means it is not centrally controlled by a bank, corporation, or government. In fact, the larger the network grows and becomes increasingly decentralized, the more secure it becomes. The blockchain is a technology higher version of the internet and its sole purpose is to bring about decentralization of systems and take away the centralized power especially that of the government to give power to the individuals. As such, many companies have embraced it and are riding on this technology. In a layman's term - The blockchain is likened to a Vehicle (The Network) which runs on Fuel (The Cryptocurrency) to gain power. Typical Examples of this are
1. The Bitcoin Network and Bitcoin
2. Ethereum Network and Ether.

1. Bitcoin Network is the Network or Vehicle as in my simple definition above while
Bitcoin is the Fuel that powers the vehicle/network.

2. Ethereum is the Network or Vehicle as in my simple definition above while
Ether is the Fuel that powers the vehicle/network.

The Bitcoin Network fueled by the cryptocurrency called bitcoin is the first successful implementation of blockchain technology. This is the reason many tend to see bitcoin as blockchain. The Bitcoin Network is just one technology that rides on the power of the blockchain. The potential for blockchain technology is not limited to bitcoin.

With blockchains popularity, many companies are now using blockchain technology. And why wouldn’t they? Blockchain does bring a lot to the table. More so, you can use blockchain in different use cases such as Supply chain, Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Banking, Real estate, and many more. Even though blockchain was only considered suitable for Banking sectors only in the beginning, it started to disrupt other industries as well. Thus, now we have a lot of solutions that are in the pilot phase or already in use in the enterprise.
