CHAPTER TWO The Estranged Daughter Adanna's Frustration Adanna sat at her desk, staring blankly at her mathematics assignment. She struggled to focus, her mind wandering to her true passion—Art. But her father, Mr. Austin, insisted she study mathematics to take over his business. Miss Nneoma, her class teacher, had been hired as her private tutor. During their lessons, Adanna's lack of interest was evident. One day, Miss Nneoma noticed Adanna's distant gaze and decided to have a personal talk with her. Adanna opened up about her father's neglect, sharing how he never attended her school events or showed interest in her well-being. Miss Nneoma listened attentively, advising Adanna to talk to her father and hear his perspective. That night, Adanna waited up for her father, determined to confront him. When Mr. Austin arrived home late, he was surprised to find Adanna awake. "Why are you still up?" he asked. "I want to talk to you," Adanna replied. Initially, Mr. Austin refused, but eventually agreed. Adanna asked why he never attended her school events or cared about her welfare. He dismissed her concerns, saying he provided for her financially, and his absence shouldn't bother her. Adanna felt a surge of emotions, but her father left the room before she could respond. She cried herself to sleep. The next day, Adanna shared the painful conversation with Miss Nneoma, who promised to talk to Mr. Austin. Miss Nneoma encouraged Adanna to focus on her studies and not let her father's troubles weigh her down. "Keep your passion for Art alive, but also try to understand your father's expectations," Miss Nneoma said gently. Adanna nodded, determined to find a balance between her dreams and her father's demands. |

CHAPTER ONE The Ruthless Tycoon Austin's Empire Austin's sleek, black SUV navigated through the crowded streets of Alaba international market Ojo, Lagos. His chauffeur, James, expertly maneuvered the vehicle, weaving past danfos and okadas. Austin gazed out the window, his mind consumed by the day's business dealings. As they approached the imposing Austin Towers, the city's skyline seemed to bow to his magnificence. The 20-story edifice stood as a testament to his unyielding ambition. Austin strode into the conference room, commanding attention. His tailored suit and confident demeanor left no doubt about who was in charge. Austin's gaze swept the room, his eyes lingering on each executive. "I expect nothing but excellence. Our competitors must be crushed." Austin's phone buzzed, disrupting his triumphant mood. Adanna, his estranged daughter, flashed on the screen. He hesitated before answering. "Adanna, what is it?" Austin's tone was curt. "Happy birthday, Dad," Adanna said, her voice laced with resentment. "Or would you rather I not remind you?" Austin's expression hardened. "What do you want, Adanna?" "I want you to acknowledge the damage you've done. To Mom, to me, to everyone around you." Austin's face twisted in annoyance. "You don't understand the sacrifices I made for this family." As Austin ended the call, a fleeting sense of unease crept in. He pushed it aside, focusing on the day's schedule. James, sensing his unease, spoke up. "Sir, perhaps it's time to reconsider your priorities." Austin's glare silenced him. Austin's assistant, Tolu, approached him with a concerned expression. "Sir, there's trouble brewing. Victor, your rival, is making aggressive moves." Austin waved his hand dismissively. "Handle it, Tolu." As the day wore on, Austin's empire continued to thrive, but the seeds of discontent had been sown. |
