Politics / Keyamo Withdraws From Delta Senatorial Race by deda(m): 4:40am On Sep 26, 2013
Human Rights activist Festus Keyamo’s foray into politics may have been put on hold, at least for the moment.

The Lagos-based lawyer has withdrawn from the primaries of the Delta central senatorial bye-election, describing the exercise as stage-managed and a sham.

Mr Keyamo, who is running on the platform of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), alleges that the process was being rigged in favour of his opponent Otega Emerhor.

In a letter to the APC’s bye-election committee in delta state, Mr Keyamo listed several grievances including the hijack of election materials by thugs loyal to his opponent.

He also accused the APC committee members of openly conniving with his opponent to perpetrate fraud.

Mr Keyamo’s statement reads in part “I boldly say that any result that comes out of today’s exercise will be a colossal fraud and waste of time. This is a notice that no vote should be cast or counted in my favour in the stage-managed process”

It will be recalled that the acting National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tom Ikimi denied the adoption of human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo as the senatorial candidate of the party for the Delta central senatorial seat.

Mr. Ikimi was speaking in the Edo state capital, Benin City, that neither the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nor the Senate has declared the seat vacant following the death of Senator Pius Ewherido.

He explained that the organ of the APC in Delta state at the moment is the interim national executive committee and the party is still in the process of putting in place state harmonising committees there.

This is the evil attitude emanating from fasholas govt. My mum retired 2yrs ago and to date no gratuity or pension has been paid. This is someone I can proudly say served the govt for 35yrs without taking any dime aside her salary. At the moment, if u can bribe ur way tru urs can be worked out faster. But for my mum she has never bribed anyone in her life and she is not ready to do so now. So Pls fashola pay the elder citizens their due.

Gudiza: Alright, my bad.. I confess I did not even read the initial post before commenting cos I thought you were one of those 'boko' apologists trying to justify the unjustifyable. Sorry for misunderstanding.

The corruption problem goes beyond just the Judiciary (the last frontier of hope in a society) as you have rightly said, the Police etc, every facet of our lives have been eroded. Even the American system of Justice don't have the form you propose here but they are still centuries(y) ahead of us.

The kind you propose would help improve justice by allowing the judge exercise his powers freely, without pressure of corruption, but it won't help him be a 'better judge'.

The Perfect System of Justice, not obtainable anywhere in the world, is one in which the Judge is not even able to see the accused/ defendents! to know if they are male or female, rich or poor, black or white, so as to completely remove every emotional attachment.

Peace.

For not reading the post bfor making that thrash comment of urs, u are simply a mumu

Now this same pple are here condemning the entire composition of APC excos of muslims. All I have to say is that in Nigeria Everytin thrives on religion and region. Politics / She Wanted Bigger Bum, But Got Disability •story Of Michelle Brown by deda(m): 11:56pm On Jun 02, 2013
A woman, Apryl Michelle Brown shared her experience of how she lost her hands, legs and buttocks to fake silicone. The 46-year-old former hairdresser blames “vanity” and wants to warn others of the terrible dangers of such illegal treatments..Read her story below:

“I got the butt implants eight years ago,” she told NBC. “For five years, I lived in pain. Excruciating pain.”

The procedure was carried out by an unlicenced practitioner in Los Angeles, she said, with complications leading to several stints as a hospital inpatient.

She said: “ I’ve paid a terrible price for vanity and I’ll pay for the rest of my life. But I blame no one but myself, I want to share my story to warn others about these so-called ‘quick fix’ surgeries”.

“I didn’t realise the dangers. I thought it was a harmless injection that would give me the perfect bottom. But the reality was the silicone used wasn’t suitable for humans. It was, in fact, bathroom sealant only suitable for DIY.

“My body had a massive allergic reaction to it which left me at the brink of death. I was in so much agony that, by that point, dying would have been a release. The only way doctors could save my life was to amputate my buttocks, my hands and feet.”

Teased as a child about her “pancake” bum, Apryl vowed to buy a shapelier one when she was older.

She said: “I didn’t know if I wanted mine to look like Janet Jackson’s or J-Lo’s. I didn’t even know how you could do it. I just wanted a new, bigger bottom.” The moment that changed her life came in 2004, when two women walked into her successful beauty salon to get their hair done. One of them ran “pumping parties” — where unqualified practitioners inject illegal silicone into “patients” at their home.

Apryl, from Los Angeles, said: “One of the women told me how she had given bottom injections to the friend who was with her. “I remember thinking it was a miracle she’d walked into my life. Her friend showed me the work she’d had done and it looked great.

“In a split second I made the decision that I was going to go to this woman and let her inject silicone into my behind.” That decision nearly killed her. Apryl paid the woman, who had no medical background, around £650 for two lots of injections. Doctors later discovered the substance used was industrial-grade silicone.

Apryl admitted: “I didn’t do any research. A combination of naivety, misplaced trust and insecurity led me to take this disastrous decision. I trusted her because she seemed so professional, and I had no reason to think anything awful was going to happen”.

“She carried out the procedure in her daughter’s bedroom. She assessed my bottom and said, ‘You’ll need three or four sessions to get the result you want’. The first procedure took an hour. I remember asking, ‘Is it meant to be so painful?’ and she said, ‘Yes’. It felt like it was squeezing through my nerves.”

Within weeks Apryl returned for her second treatment. She said: “After going through it again I had an epiphany. As I left her house I thought, ‘What am I doing? I have no idea what she’s putting in my body’, I never returned. But though I didn’t know it then, my life had already changed forever.”

Over the next two years the area where she’d been injected became hard and the skin blackened.

Apryl, mum to daughters Danye, 22 and Courtney, 21, said: “Within a few months of the second injection my buttocks began to harden. I knew something wasn’t right. But shame stopped me seeking medical help. As time went on it got worse as the skin blackened. I developed hard lumps.

Then the searing pain started. I had to tell my doctor what I did. I was so ashamed.”

Apryl spent the next four years in constant pain. Two surgeons told her it was too dangerous to remove the silicone. She said: “I was in so much agony I became a regular at hospital asking for medication to ease what was like a combination of a migraine, childbirth and toothache localized in one area.

In February 2011 a surgeon operated unsuccessfully. Apryl developed a hole in her buttocks — thought to be the trigger for an infection that in June was nearly fatal. She said: “I was 24 hours from dying. I didn’t think of leaving my family. It was a relief I’d finally be free of pain.”

Doctors put her in an induced coma for two months while performing 27 surgeries — starting with amputating her buttocks — and doing extensive skin grafts. She said: “They saved me but gangrene set into my hands and feet. I was brought out of sedation shortly before I became a quadruple amputee”.

“My hands looked like those of a dead person. I knew then I was going to lose them.” She added: “At first you try to register your new limbs. The real comprehension comes when you start to live this new life. “I had dark times. I cried a sea of tears. I had to face the fact I’d lost my hands, feet and buttocks because of complications from bottom injections. I was overwhelmed by shame and guilt… all because I wanted a bigger bottom.

“I was six months in hospital. By the time I was discharged I was determined to turn this terrible thing into something positive. I decided to do a triathlon. I told myself if I could achieve that I could do anything.

“I took my first steps again by the end of 2011. I built up to training six days a week, learning to walk, cycle then swim again using my residual limbs. I’d be crying in pain but I’d push through it. And six weeks ago I did it — completing a three-mile walk, ten-mile cycle and a 150-meter swim.

“When I crossed that finishing line with my family cheering me on, I cried tears of joy”. She added: “I haven’t sued or sought compensation. I just want to move on. There are things I miss dearly — I’ll never be able to do my girls’ hair or feel sand between my toes but I believe I survived to share my story.

“I want to warn others of the dangers of black-market surgery. We were born whole, perfect and complete.

“My greatest message is we have to learn to love and accept ourselves for who we are."

So you are patiently praying and waiting for the government to fail so you can laugh at them. Of what benefit will it be to you? 'Bad belle' does not pay in any way. The government is not perfect and its only natural if we constructively citisize and also commend when necessary.

thANK U FOR THE REASONABLE POST. THOUGH NOT A FAN OF GEJ GOVT, BUT WEN ITS TIME TO COMMEND LETS DO SO , EVEN IF ITS JUST ALITTLE

This is a laudable feat, why wait for it to fail?
dedeike: @kobojunkie, it's obvious you would never see anything good in this GEJ beacuse you are paid to rubbish all his efforts on Nairaland. I don't expect you to be objective. Doing so might strip you of your only means of livelihood. Anytime I log onto Nairaland, you re always attacking one GEJ policy or another. I begin to wonder whether anyone will be so desperate in this hatchet job without a fee. I do not begrudge you for doing the job of your paymasters but I advice you to be more discreet about it. This is necessary so that you will restore a modicum of credibility to your posts. A situation where you just jump to criticise anything GEJ leaves you hollow and foolish in the eyes of right thinking members of this forum. Take the issue on hand for example, no body has asked for a national merit award to be conferred on Jonathan for canceling Govt's official delegation to the London Olympics. It's just a matter of acknowledging that govt is beginning to realize that it's no longer business as usual. This cancellation marks a clear departure from the past when tax payers money was used to sponsor over bloated govt delegations to sports events. Every objective mind will commend this step and move unto the next one. It is testamentary of the transformation agenda that govt is opening up probes into every sector, setting up independent committees to carry out sensitive assignments, merging agencies and cutting the cost of governance. This is one of those measures. We should applaud it and move ahead
