Education / Re: Fortune Okudaye: Lady Rides Okada To Pay School Fees, Shares Her Experience by DeIneffable(m): 2:33pm On Sep 23, 2021 |
I Know Fortune Personally, She is a dogged goal getter, last of three children. She's studying computer science at Lagos state polytechnic. I wanted to help her myself before the pandemic dealt me a low blow as well. I think I still have her account number, once I have small change, I will freaky her account. by God's grace She inspires me. BornorBang: Fortune Okudaye is a 24 year old lady who narrates to BBC how she used her dispatch riding business to pay her school fees while she was in Lagos.
Fortune who is from Delta state said that the worst advice she has got from people was that she is too beautiful to be riding a bike under the hot sun in Lagos state.
In her interview, she said they asked her to pick up prostitution instead.
The lady came to Lagos in 2017 on the promise her father’s brother made to put her in school.
According to the 24-year-old lady, the man said that she would have to pay him back. Fortune later braved it and went job hunting.
The lady who has been riding bikes since she was 11 years old said that she went into the okada business because there were no well-paying jobs for her in the state.
Fortune noted that the bike riding business is not for the faint-hearted. She revealed that the number of accidents she has had is enough for her to quit already.
The lady who has been embarrassed on many occasions said she was once slapped by a female customer. Fortune could not retaliate because of the fear of a sack.
The 24-year-old would have loved to further her education to HND level but cannot as most of her income now goes to her mother’s treatment who has cancer.
Her story has attracted so many heart-felt reactions from Nigerian internet users.

He won't need all that 500k to learn both. he can learn both and use the remaining to open a barbershop already (to sustain income). Look for a good barber to hire and share profits with and also use style to learn from. The OCD in me also made me correct your English, sorry. Ninobraw: Good day everyone no need for a long story. A friend seriously needs your advice. If you have to advise someone, between learning tiling (tiles work) and Barbing (cut hair) which will you have to advise the person to learn. please you have to also state your reason just help out. Please I am begging you to also advise like a brother, please. The guy is 28yrs old, he got 500k already from his bro in Canada but confused about the one to learn. He is a married man with 1 kid. |
Romance / Re: I Don't Like Her, I Like Her Younger Sister by DeIneffable(m): 12:42pm On Jun 07, 2021 |
What move did the elder sister make? Daniwes: Met two sisters a while ago in church, for some reason, the older one got my no and has been calling me almost every day. Meanwhile, I ve always wanted the younger one-she is my full spec for a serious relationship, I just did not get a chance to bond and get her contact.
Recently, the older one tried a few more advances which I turned down. I ve planned to clear her straight that I am not interested, but I am not sure how to go about it as of course these are siblings. I really like younger sis, but I feel I am not sure how to proceed with this.
I feel the recent move older sis pulled will sabotage any meaningful relationship I want to have with the younger sis in future |
Career / Re: How Much Is A Computer Science (c.s) Master Degree Holder Supposed To Earn by DeIneffable(m): 8:20pm On May 27, 2021 |
Masters will be that important if you are keen on lecturing. Why I said that is because as a computer science graduate, you should have learnt a programming language, a DB tool and that alone is a money fetching tool alone. My thoughts shaa. definitelyHIM: Hello guys I am currently in my 3rd year in the university as a computer science student..and I am contemplating going for my masters immediately after my studies...I would like to know like how much a c.s masters degree holder is supposed to earn as salary working for an organization... anyone with ideas should please help me out... thanks.. |
Programming / Re: Thinking Of Dropping Out Of College To Focus On Programming by DeIneffable(m): 8:12pm On May 27, 2021 |
No need to drop out yet, Continue studying and take on programming side gigs in your school. When it is time for IT, look for a software company to do your IT so you can gain industrial experience as a Software Engineer. If you drop out right now. you will be a freelance for too long as not many companies are ok with the skill set only yet. But if the aim is to be an entrepreneur, wait no more. Discord: Hi Nairalanders, kindly need your advice, please.
I am currently in my second year studying a five years course in a federal university, I have no interest in what I am studying, I got good grades tho. Just doing it because that is what my parents want me to do. I have no passion for it, oftentimes I feel I am just wasting my time in school.
I love programming and would love to drop out of uni to focus on it and give my all to it. Seeing a lot of graduates living from hand to mouth, struggling to earn a living is truly not encouraging.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What A Friend Did To Me Last Week. by DeIneffable(m): 1:36pm On May 23, 2021 |
Please, what did you study? Cpossibility: What a friend did to me last week.
Just like in my case, so many graduates in the country are today, traumatized, depressed or even suicidal. Nothing is more depressing than seeing oneself jobless after several years of graduation. More annoying is when there's no finance to even start a business no matter how brilliant the business idea could be. If I have capital or even a collateral to use and get some money somewhere, I would rest completely from job hunting.
My ordeal. Few months ago, I stumbled on a friend on Facebook whom we were school mates back in secondary school. His parents resided outside the state which he normally came back on school resumption and would go back during holidays.
On meeting him on Facebook, taking a look at his pictures, he's obviously doing well and claimed he's working with an international NGO. I told him my pains which is unemployment. Immediately, he was happy and telling me not to worry again that with his connections here and there, I'll get a job. His promise was to fix me either in the NGO, an insurance company, factory work or any other place of which he has links and connections.
We talked extensively and negotiated my movement and arrived I should come over last week. The plans was to stay in his 2 bedroom apartment and until 3-4 months when I can rent my own place. So I moved from Rivers state to Lagos Monday last week with just 16k on me. En route Lagos, we were keeping in touch so to know how closer I am and until I got to Lagos (God is Good Motors park) around 8pm. I called him that I have arrived the park and he said he was coming to pick me.
Long story short, that was the last time his number went. Initially, I thought it was network, or may be temporary low battery. I kept dialling the number through out the night but it never went again. Of course I had no choice than to sleep in the park. Woke up the next morning hoping his number would go but still same. I had no body else in Lagos nor knowing any where as that was my first time in Lagos. So I was just roaming around the park the whole day like a lost sheep, hungry, frustrating and pains but still hoping for his call but none came. When I tried reaching via Facebook and realized I was blocked, that was when it dawned on me that I have to start going back immediately. Already, transport fare from PH to Lagos finished about N10,500. So I was left with about 4k on me. At that point in the evening, I knew my best bet as I said earlier was to find my way back immediately but I didn't even have enough cash for my return. I had no option than to start telling people about my predicament and appealed for help to raise fund to return home the next morning. I was mocked and laughed at while some were asking to buy my phone at a very ridiculous amount. But then at that point, I could have sold it at the ridiculous amount but the phone was the only medium of communication with people especially my mum who was already worried over the journey right from the onset. I kept approaching people to help me and until one man graciously completed the money for me and I paid for my return.
On reaching home, I did nothing than thanking God that at least my case wasn't like that of late Iniobong Umoren. At least I came back home alive...which is the most important thing. But what I don't understand is why the guy chose to be that wicked to me forgetting this world is a very small place. I mean if there was never a job, why did he have to put me through that? Anyways, I have since moved on. Not even swearing/cursing him but leave everything for God. Such is life!
Fellow nairalanders, that is the dairy of a Nigerian job seeker. This leave me with the question, "will Nigeria ever be good for ordinary Nigerian?" |

It will be very hard to get your wife to join you in Germany (from my experience). The travel insurance thingy, try https://safetywing.com/ I used them as well. You will also need German health insurance already issued (your company should have done this with your labor market approval) I didn't go eventually because the German company did me a strong thing before I could even join them in Germany. But still, God dey. If your city is Munich or Hamburg and your net pay isn't above €4,000 please turn it down. The Standard of living in those two cities is mad. Congratulations man onyi2k: I just got my Visa to go to Germany. I am having cold feet making this journey. I have already told my boss I am leaving my current position.
I am yet to tell HR because of this cold feet. I have been in Qatar for 2years now and I think its best I move since I cannot marry and bring wify here.
The German company is paying for my flight and accommodation for 2 weeks but I am still having cold feet. The process is cumbersome.. I just realised I need health insurance to make this move. Where can i get such in Nigeria.

Greatest UIte!!! luminouz:
I never really went to a mortuary before so I can't say much on them. I have heard the 'knock door before you entered' part though.
One time I was in U.I anatomy library, next door was a morgue. I laughed when one night, all the ladies ran out, claiming that they heard one noise from the morgue. Prolly a rat because one of the library asbestos was lost, leaving an open space for sound to carry through.
The dead/ghosts are real though so I don't doubt that some would manifest inside a repository like a morgue |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Accept This Job Offer Or Continue Job Hunting??? by DeIneffable(m): 4:51pm On Oct 02, 2019 |
I would have said take the job as great things sometimes start from small beginnings but I cannot advise you to take the job. It is not about the pay actually but it is about the time it takes from you. It means you will not have any time to attend an interview should the chance arise. What I can advise however is, while you continue your search, keep an open mind towards technology. Your first degree might not be tech-related but I have heard of an Economics graduate who left school in 2017 but now works as a software engineer at Microsoft watch it here https://youtu.be/gU00mUn9npE. I can help you with some videos to start with a simple language like Python. While you might or might not clinch a Microsoft job, you will definitely be better of in the end Ghostty: Hello All.
I have been visiting this site as a guest for 2years, but today I had to sign up as a member. I do not intend to write so much, so permit me to go straight to the point.
I graduated in 2017 from one of the federal university in the South and finished my NYSC last year April. Ever since I have been hunting for jobs so to keep body and soul, I have written hundreds of job exams and attended several interviews but none has yielded any positive result yet.
Last month a friend of mine whose Uncle works in a Chinese Steel Production Company told me about an opening in the Marketing department of the company, he told me they were recruiting for the role of a Purchaser and a Sales Executive and advised that I should go submit my CV for consideration.
I did as advised and the following day I was called for a test. On getting there, I met three(3) other guys who also came for the same purpose. The Chinese HR guy came and administered the test and afterwards only two of us passed and were asked to come back the next day for the oral interview.
The next day I went for the interview and after being drilled and asked several questions I was offered the job. But my zeal and interest for the Job died the moment I was told the job conditions and pay.
Working hours are from 7am to 6pm daily, Monday to Saturday including public holidays. All these for a monthly pay of 35k
I was given the offer letter to take home to sign if I agree with the conditions and return it this coming Monday to resume work.
My fellow Nairalanders, would you advise that I take this job offer considering the conditions attached or reject it and continue job hunting hoping that one day favour would smile on me I am confused, please help a brother
Please help a brother push this to FP so I can get all the advice I need as much as possible. Thank you.

Nice Job, I think what you listed here is the ethnic groups as these are characterized by the language and not essentially culture. Yoruba, for instance, is spoken in all those states but they have different ways, Take for instance, Ijebus and Egbas (Tribes in the Yoruba Ethnic divide from Ogun State) do give their children Oriki like Ashake, Ayinde, Asunle, Akanbi, Abike, Anike, Ayinke and co and Oros and Offas (Tribes in the Yoruba Ethnic divide from Kwara State) Use Aina for both male and female while other Yoruba tribes don't do that. moscobabs: THE FULL LIST OF ALL THE 371 TRIBES IN NIGERIA & THE STATES WHERE THEY ORIGINATED FROM

Politics / Re: Zamfara First Lady Donates Motorcycle To Girl Who Trekked 2 Klm To School by DeIneffable(m): 8:19pm On Aug 03, 2019 |
pressmanng: The first Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya A'isha Bello has met with the 8 year-old primary school pupil, Fatima Ismail Lawwali who went viral for trekking two kilometers to school.
Hajiya A'isha Has donated a motorcycle that will be use to take Fatima to school, gave her wrappers, cash gift and other educational materials.
Lawwali said that the closest school to their home was practically in a shambles, explaining that his daughter might not be able to cope academically in such environment which makes him feel it is necessary to choose an enabling enrolment for her to study.
A’isha Matawalle while presenting the gifts disclosed that she saw the picture of the girl on Facebook trekking to school and decided that something positive should be done to assist the family in their quest to educate their child.
“It is heartbreaking when I saw the picture of the girl on social media and this donation is in line with my pet project’s mission to ensure the educational development of the girl child in Zamfara State,” A’isha said.

Islam for Muslims / Re: What's The Proper Punishment For A Muslim Apostate? by DeIneffable(m): 1:38pm On Jun 23, 2016 |
This is a better explanation than mine, How's ramadan over there brother? hope the long hours are not too challenging? tbaba1234:
The first thing to say is that in islam, there is no compulsion in religion, The Quran(translated) states:
Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things. (Quran 2:256)
However in an Islamic state, there are certain conditions where conversion is accompanied with acts that could be considered treasonable by the state. The punishment for treason is death.
The act of just conversion is not punishable in most cases, however if that conversion is accompanied by an attempt to discredit Islam or propagate another religion within the islamic state, It is considered treasonable.
The apostacy law came about during the time of the prophet;
In order to discredit Islam, some Jews in medina would accept islam in the day and leave by sunset; They continued to do so until the law was put in place.
Guess how many people did so the next day? None,
Look at the apostacy law this way;
Acts against the nation are considered treason aren't they? what is punishment for treason in 9ja?
The constitution of an Islamic state is based on Islam; If i live in the state, i abide by its laws;
If someone leaves Islam in an Islamic state for whatever reason, as long as he doesn't go around opening trying to convert people to whatever belief/unbelief he has found thereby trying to discredit the constitution of the state. He is fine. Otherwise, It is treasonable.
He can live his life, he doesn't have to pray or fast if he doesn't want to..
Besides, the person is not just executed, he speaks to the scholars about his doubts and is provided evidences about the divinity of the Quran so as to convince him, if that fails, he is threatened basically to shut him up from proselytizing disbelief in an Islamic state. If he relents, he is let go and can continue in his disbelief and live his normal life. |
Islam for Muslims / Re: What's The Proper Punishment For A Muslim Apostate? by DeIneffable(m): 1:34pm On Jun 23, 2016 |
lexiconkabir: Your Question will be answered by theses following points,
(1) This is the ruling of Allaah and His Messenger, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever changes his religion, kill him." (reported by al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, no. 3017).
(2) The one who has known the religion which Allaah revealed, entered it and practised it, then rejected it, despised it and left it, is a person who does not deserve to live on the earth of Allaah and eat from the provision of Allaah.
(3) By leaving Islaam, the apostate opens the way for everyone who wants to leave the faith, thus spreading apostasy and encouraging it.
(4) The apostate is not to be killed without warning. Even though his crime is so great, he is given a last chance, a respite of three days in which to repent. If he repents, he will be left alone; if he does not repent, then he will be killed.
(5) If the punishment for murder and espionage (also known as high treason) is death, then what should be the punishment for the one who disbelieves in the Lord of mankind and despises and rejects His religion? Is espionage or shedding blood worse than leaving the religion of the Lord of mankind and rejecting it?
(6) None of those who bleat about personal freedom and freedom of belief would put up with a neighbour’s child hitting their child or justify this as "personal freedom," so how can they justify leaving the true religion and rejecting the sharee’ah which Allaah revealed to teach mankind about His unity and bring justice and fairness to all? May Allah forgive my error here. This Hadith does not contradict the Qur'an Verses but I think a whole lot have misconstrued this Hadith. let us remind ourselves about how the Qur'an and sometimes the Hadith is revealed, revelation comes based on events at that time or some chain of events. This Hadith was presented in the time of war where some accepted the faith, gained military intelligence then decided to change back. What I want to put to you how ever is for you to present evidence that the prophet did this himself. there is proof as presented above that the prophet did spare people who returned to a previous life by rejecting Islam that they had initially accepted. so please present the proof. If Rasul spared people. I will as well |
Politics / Re: Let Me Agree With You, This Is About The Current Situation Of Nigeria. by DeIneffable(m): 6:31am On Jun 09, 2016 |
bashydemy: A friend of mine post this on his Facebook and I find so interesting and decide to share it on Nairaland after taking permission from him.... He is a Nairaland member with the moniker....Delneffable Enjoy... Let me agree with you Let me agree that the government is clueless and heartless as they have become deaf to the agony of the masses. Let me agree that they are not doing anything other than attack people under the guise of fighting corruption. But for a minute, can we just reason along this path? The path where I wonder what my dear Niger-Delta Avengers brothers are fighting for? Is it to protest the environmental neglect of the oil lands? Or welfare of the people that live around there? Was it not a man from their region that just handed over to this man? Did he or Did he not take care of these issues? If he didn’t, why were you quiet when he ruled for six years? If he did, are you saying the issues are back again in less than a year because you have been wreaking havoc before the new dispensation marked a year. Your man from Otueke didn’t do anything to your land and you were mute now you’re out doing something very senseless. Are you not living in this country? If you’re not affected by the hardship you’re causing, your relative somewhere or that in-law of yours is feeling it so the joke is on you. Your actions is not as laughable as the fact you have an active twitter account and you tweet every action! Well-done Twitter!!! I have not said that there is no cause to fight for, I am just confused that there was a long break in fighting for a “worthy” cause. Now you have blown up oil wells knowing the by-product account for more than 60% of the nation’s source of energy and source of foreign exchange. Is this a plan to cripple the nation’s economy? If that’s it, smart move, but you’re not a country and there was agriculture before oil was discovered. Or can we reason along the path where I wonder what the people of Biafra are really doing right now. I was not born before the civil war, neither was I alive during that trying time in our nation’s history. But history, as it was told left a bitter taste as what transpired left little to be desired. But it has been decades after that so what is really happening? The father of Biafra Late Odumegwu Ojukwu believed in this cause but in my opinion, he must have had a change of heart when he took seat at the senate in my opinion for he was on that seat for more than one tenure if I am not mistaken, so what are you fighting for? If this cause truly means much to you why still produce candidates for House of Representatives and Senate? Is the house a divided one? Why not have a united front instead? I have not said that the nation of Biafra should not establish itself wherever they want to be, I am just confused that there seem to be an aberration of notion and intentions stemming from the commercial experts of the nation. Maybe we should reason along the path where I wonder who are seated in the senate and what we do about it as masses. Be it APC, PDP, APGA, KOWA, PPA, NCP, RIP, RSVP for all I care. The show of inefficiency is worthy of a sarcastic applause really. Let us use the Senate President as an example. Our dear Dr. Saraki received the budget on a Friday and took photo sessions with the President and the Vice. The budget went missing the following week. What did we do as masses? We went on social media to create very hilarious memes and jokes on that all important issue. Should we not have requested for his resignation resoundingly? Then the budget came back and alas! Every ministry disclaimed and disowned the content as it had been “padded”. What did we do as a nation? We blamed Buhari for this. Should we not have requested for the Senate Leader’s resignation resoundingly? Then the budget was rectified but it took months before it was ratified by the house knowing fully well that the nation can only run if the budget is approved and even the eventual submission and approval witnessed a lot of back and forth. What did we do as a nation? We blamed Buhari for this. Should we not have requested for the Senate Leader’s resignation resoundingly? Let us not forget that he has a pending case at CCT and he has not resigned and we have not asked for his resignation either as it has been labelled a “witch hunt” but is the report of Panama papers a witch hunt as well? Was he not indicted in the reports? What did we do as a nation? We turned a blind eye. Should we not have requested for the Senate Leader’s resignation resoundingly? I am not saying that we do not have enough to contend with already. I am just confused that when we raise our voice against bad governance, we seem to leave the senate out of this. Is this an honest omission or we are just ignoring the senate? The president is only as powerful as what the Senate allows. And it seems the senate is only trying to undermine the chances of a better Nigeria. So let’s reason along these paths while I agree with you that you’re right about the government. Someday I will exercise my rights and protest, yes I will carry a placard and protest against the NDA that has seen its “cause” as a tool to disrupt any government they just do not like. Against everything that I feel obliterates good governance. I might be wrong, my views might be myopic, or even deprived of adequate information but I am just that one saddled with the task of passing the camel through the eye hole of the needle. ugohemma: All those above me lack knowledge to comprehend an empty essay or they are Bubu sympathizers. The OP should know that any person sitting on that exalted throne, Senate or president are untouchable by your forefathers constitution and goverment structure. That is why Youths of today need to understand the need for true federalism so that in this case we can take placecards and storm our state Secretariat. the statement I highlighted there is where we get it wrong, have you read the constitution before? do you know that we as masses can even rescind a law passed by either house? be it Senate or House of Reps? No one is untouchable, reason I posted this on facebook is to let people stop the blind fight and protest, know where exactly to channel your anger. Do not read this selectively like an average Nigerian, look at every point made. Why are the Niger Delta Avengers back all of a sudden after 6 years hiatus? why has no human rights activist come out and ask for a restructure at the senate Level? just think about these whole series of drama in many ways and we can all agree that our rage is deserving but we are fighting the wrong enemy. 1 Like 1 Share |
