Arsenal football club on Thursday, December 20th, 2019 announced Mikel Arteta as their new head coach. The Spaniard who was a former Arsenal captain played for the club for five seasons between 2011 to 2016 signed a three and half year deal with the north London club.

The former Gunners captain made a total of one hundred and fifty (150) appearances for the club, started one hundred and thirty-one (131)matches, scored sixteen (16) goals, provided eight( assists, won a total of eight ( trophies and had a passing accuracy of 91.5%.

Arteta's route to becoming Arsenal coach has been a long and winding one taking into consideration how long it lingered before he finally signed for the gunners.

It's hard not to think his appointment is a game because he has never been a coach before. There is a big difference between being an assistant and being the main man on the dugout. For example, he will have to deal directly with the consequences of not selecting a player, dealing with egos among the senior players, discussing difficult contract situations and man-managing players like Ozil who is his former teammate.

That notwithstanding, the ever-demanding emirate stadium faithful should see some positives to rally and support their new head coach.

He was humiliated by Arsenal board last year by being dropped in the last minute, he took a pay cut to join Arsenal as a player and not minding being under one of the best coaches in the world with a far more compact Man city team to sign for a shambolic Arsenal team.

After the departure of Arsene Wenger at the end of the 2017/2018 season, Arteta was at the forefront of the shortlisted candidates to take over but the three-man panel of Ivan Gazidis, Sven Mislintat, and Raul Sanllehi opted for Unai Emery who they saw as a more experienced option.

Arteta is known as Mr mentality, he was an incredible professional during his playing days, he has taken his confidence and tactfulness into his coaching career.

He has good leadership qualities and communication skills during his two years as Arsenal captain, this was seen during the time he and Mertesacker faced the press when the chips were down. I know you might say this is insignificant but it goes a long way to show his character.

Nile University got a cash award of N500, 000, Caleb University, N350, 000, Bingham University, N150, 000 and Covenant University, N80, 000.
Nile University, Abuja, came first among ten participating institutions in the 5th edition of the Nigeria Private Universities Debate (NIPUD), sponsored by Mrs Toyin Saraki, Wife of the President of the Senate.
The Caleb University , Lagos, came second in the week-long event, which ended on Friday, while Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa, and
Covenant University , Ogun came 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nile University got a cash award of N500, 000, Caleb University, N350, 000, Bingham University, N150, 000 and Covenant University, N80, 000.
The theme of the 2017 edition of the debate was: “The United Nations and Global Economy: Implications for Regression, Recession and Regeneration for the Nigeria youth.’’
Saraki noted that the debate had created a platform for Nigerian youths to contribute their quota to the Federal Government policy making processes was aimed at providing future for Nigerians.
She emphasised the need for students to be well informed about happenings in the country to be able to respond, as well as suggest solutions to them.
The wife of the president of the Senate said she was motivated to promote the educational system of the country hence she sponsored the debate.
“ I am not just inspired by the education of our youths but I am also a lover of education and humanity."
“I believe education is the right of every citizen and everybody must be educated,’’ she said.

fellow nairalanders over the years I've been following Nigerian entertainment ever since I was a kid and I've discovered what I call racism in the industry. by this I don't mean physical discrimination of persons. I'm referring to the unnecessary hype about Lagos being the hub of entertainment in Nigeria this I believe was purported by selfish westerners who doesn't care about other states or geopolitical zones so to say and yet they don't the southerners to have BIAFRA. take a look at America you must not move to New York before you BLOW,some one can still live in his native state of Philadelphia, Ohio etc and his songs I'll still be on the billboard 100's.
over the years entertainment companies have helped lagosians to solidify this claim of being the entertainment hub in Nigeria take a look at headies which is arguably the biggest award event in Nigeria, since it's inception they have been hosting it in Lagos only as if it's only lagosians that listen to Nigerian songs abi na only them they vote too?
