Beginning my 3rd sprint, and i'm grateful i applied.

i understand it may not be free again.

but if you have the opportunity, i recommend you go for the full programme.

if you're unemployed and you have 1 year to spear take the chance.

even though you can afford it try and get there resources and try there tasks as you learn. you will gain.

Why i love the programme is that, at one point you will realise it's not just about the code, but how you arrange your instruction for the computer to follow.

helped me appreciate computer science as a course.

if you have the opportunity again to get the programme for free, please take it.

i can't guarantee you will have a job afterwards but i can tell you. You will grow less dependent on video tutorials to build projects.
Then why are they not telling the truth about helping people to get job. They promised that they have links to undadvertised jobs. But everything is a lie. Once you qualify for room fellowship you will understand.

Some of them are still in the program and Some have dropped out. Ask those that actually graduated from the program, they will tell you. It's a life changing experience.

I'm not looking to sell the program. I got it free. But what I learnt, I am grateful for.

If you follow the program's path well, without copying and pasting, you don't succumb to the pressure of passing the threshold.

You would do well, and I mean very well.

Getting a job is dependent on how well you can sell yourself.

But if it is about building a project and you claim to pass through alx. Not copy and paste through. Forget it.

One thing I know and seen is they get jobs. Most of them end up backend engineers .

https://github.com/gayanvoice/top-github-users.git

Check the top contributors in Nigeria . You would see alx and micro verse.

I can vouch for their engineers
Bros a good software engineer is not determined by the number of commits on github. Quality over quantity.

Everywhere I turn to these days, there's always advert of "learn programing", "learn software engineering". Nigerians no dey hear there's money in one field. I can't even count the numbers of calls i receive in a month... even people that does not know how to use computer want to learn programing.

if you don't have passion for these thing, even if they combine mark zuckerberg with bill gate to train you, you will come out unproductive

A real software engineer will not even have time to train you, once these htm css javascript engineer want to cash out , they turn it to training. Is your trainer working with google ? I knew the alx thing won't work from day one.

Regardless of whatever anyone will say! When it comes to tech there are different approach to it. Sometimes it may not be appealing to you but the thing here is that in ALX you will definitely have direction of what to do and expect, everything still boils down to personal efforts you put in to build yourself.

Alx is really doing a good job!
You don't learn by bringing thousands of inexperienced folks and tell them to learn from one another with little or no guidance. The only alternative they have is to go to github and copy from the repository of their former students and get 200% score. That is not education.

Many persons who enroll in programs like Alx, Altschool, and co often have unrealistic expectations about what to expect in the field of tech.

I was among the first batch of students that registered for Altschool. A lot of folks who enrolled for the program had really massive constructive imaginations.

Some were talking about getting a $10K/month job after graduation. One even said he can't wait to start working in Google by the time he gets his Altschool diploma 😂

When th program began, we just saw that it wasn't worth the social media hype it had. Many of us had to voluntarily stop to be more effective in our learning.

I don't know of Alx, but from the little I've gotten from folks who took the program, I think they did a great job. At least were much better than Altschool.

All in all, success in tech still boils down to one's personal effort, dedication, and consistency. I don't really subscribe to these naija bootcamps or whatever they call them.
People need to lower their expectation when it comes to bootcamps. Most of the CEOs of these bootcamps are marketers and skilled salesmen who can sell ice to an eskimo.

Begin with W3SChools or Freecodecamp. The former has better UI and UX, and better IDE. Mobile-friendly too so you can learn on the go.

Download and watch HD tutorial videos from Freecodecamp and Simplilearn YouTube pages.

Practice.

Watch same tutorials over and over again, and even the web apps to practice.

Then take tracked certificate courses to get graded for the same things you have learnt. W3Schools and Freecodecamp again. Coursera courses aren't so updated but take them.

Join Twitter/X. Follow a few tech topics - web development, UI/UX... Over the next few months, follow those with helpful tips

Get updated regularly.

Most importantly, as you learn, connect with folks learning and working in your areas of specialty, virtually and in-person. They abound in your city too.

Avoid getting distracted by the endless controversies and hot takes on Twitter and social media as a whole as you connect. Mute them or just read but don't engage.

You lose hours daily which you could spend learning arguing with strangers on fleetingly topical issues.

You can still learn and live a normal life away from the crazy schedule that is the ALX programme. ALX would leave you no time to earn and pay your bills.

That's the thing, 70hrs per week. Who does that. They don't even understand the law of diminishing return and work life balance.

Alx is a good product else they won't be able to sell it for $400.
You that didn't go through Alx, can you swear that you've never done copy and paste? Besides, when you get to the printf and simple shell project, you can't copy and paste your way through
People are not buying the course. I can tell you for free. That's why there is so much silence about alx this time around unlike before. Who pays $400 for youtube links and blog posts links. Another thing is that they don't even have enough staff for their program. That's why they do peer review where your friend gives you 200% because he is your friend and not because you got all the marks.

They are cashing out..

@ The man selling the shovel during the gold rush theory..

The only thing they learn very well in that program is how to be a specialist in copy and paste. All of them, including their self acclaimed mentors who are their former students.

I also spoke about it and I was badly criticized..

You don’t train thousand of people within a short space of time without any plan to give them a job..

ALX use dem cash out..

It’s was all for the money..

Secondly their program can’t train solid programmers.. Programming is not learnt that way..

The whole tech noise has died down..

I heard that they are now charging $400 for SWE. It is only a fool that will pay that amount for that joke of a program

Last year many people where disturbing this forum with ALX software engineering 12 month program. My question is where are they working now, does it mean that they don't graduate? why the sudden silence about ALX after just one year of social media marketing.

Devopsguy... when you guys demonise the very basic the process, I bow.
Learning how to center a div prepares you for setting up a pipeline.
The process still remains the process.
I understand but my point is that you need to upgrade before looking for a job with such sites because we have many disruptive technologies now. People need to cool down and prepare before looking for a job because companies are looking for ways to cut costs.

Java Springboot
I wish you luck but you have to be grounded with the basics of data structures and algorithms. Also you have to have good knowledge of system designs, not to forget good portfolio projects that are hosted, good number of repositories on github/gitlab and so on because you are competing with a lot of good guys.

You guys should learn contemporary technologies like machine learning, AI, Devops, blockchain, etc. Not how to center a div and other front end crap that can be done better with generative AI.

I have been trying but no luck.

Glassdoor and Indeed no luck yet.
