Family / Re: How A Wife Can Be The Glory Of Her Husband by deybowlah: 1:09pm On Nov 05, 2012
minute: Sounds like a modern stepford wife.

Where is the 3year old? The baby is crying and need fed and changed. Dinner burned and ruined because

the dog got out and had to chase it down . . . Dr called and said the 3year old has strep throat and

needs meds right away at the the pharmacy. The carpet cleaner called to say he running late and wont be

here until about time hubby come home. . .etc etc.

Marriage is a two way street. The days of the Cleaver are over! Women work (in and out of the home)and

need hubby to help with the chores too.
Woman rushes to grandma's place on her way from work to pick baby by 7pm.she gets home to prepare fresh soup for dinner, meat and pepper is stone block as nobody to help her bring it out earlier from freezer, she had to wait for another 30minutes.Meanwhile spreading the clothes she left in the machine a night before, baby is crying as she wants attention(you can't blame her she has missed mum all day, going in and out of living room to sing and dance for baby.Starts to cook dinner by 8pm and food gets ready by 9pm, baby's sleep time is also 9pm, u give her a shower and nurse her to sleep. Finally you are ready to eat by 10pm and husby wants wifey with flat tummy. How on earth will u eat dinner by 10pm and expect flat tummy wifey. Abegi... Men you ask for too much.

Baby tribotan is also very good. It has the same composition as finbactA and ytacan but a milder version for babies. You should ask at the pharmacy for the baby tribotan and not the real tribotan. It works so well for Ella and diaper rash and heat rash.
There is also another infection called "ale fo " in yoruba. Its a bacteria infection and my doctor recommended batroban or altargo cream, it worked like magic
Food / Re: Golden Morn Unsuitable For Children Under 3 Years by deybowlah: 7:44pm On Oct 11, 2012
Peterwins: For parents with children under 3 years kindly reach for a pack of Golden Morn and confirm this info. If you do not have a pack within reach, kindly get to the nearest store or supermarket and check the age restriction. I find it hard to believe that such a sensitive info is not boldly written to alert unsuspecting parents.
I have always knew that golden morn is not for infants. I don't know where I got that info from so when my 8months started solid, golden morn wasn't an option but my baby refuses all forms of cereal including pap. She only eats homemade food but I need something she can snack on. . I finally decided to get her golden morn. Infact I have opened the pack but decided to read everything written on the pack when I saw "GOLDEN MORN IS NOT AN INFANT CEREAL AND NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS.
Parents should pls read well b4 feeding their kids anything

He has to go to his county court in the US to do an affidavit of parentage and the rest, attach his proof of citizenship, marriage certificate(there is a form too to file for a child if the parents are not married)attach the right fee and you if he is not around you can then submit the application yourself.

Thanks very much for the response. This is exactly what I needed.
When husby came around he visited the embassy but at a wrong day and he was told I could do it in his absence. He dropped some documents with me but on filling the forms I discovered some sections that only the US citizen must sign in presence of a consular.
Now I understand he can fill them over there.
There is no short cut to it and there is no advice any Nairalander can give you.

Atleast I got the info I needed on nairaland

Family / Re: Living Without My Spouse For 6 Months (At Least) by deybowlah: 5:17am On Aug 01, 2012
JallowBah:
And for some, it has made their marriage even stronger.
My place is for my husband, yes, and I am doing this for him, and with him in my soul, for OUR future. If I went down there with him, no job, no school, no money..what good would that do?

And if he is stupid enough to cheat, I sure as hell hope he is smart enough to use protection. My baby will only have sisters/brothers from the same father and mother, I swear you that, married or not.
Wow! I love your response poster, it brought tears to my eyes.
I am sure you will make it through. 6months is not a long time. My husband has been away for a year now. He travelled back to US when I was 5months pregnant and will be coming home tomorrow to see his daughter for the first time in her 6months of life.
We talk a lot on phone and I know most of his movement and schedules. He is even too busy to mess around.
Tell him about your daily activities both pleasant and unpleasant ones and encourage him to tell you his.
JallowBah: So many responses, and similar stories, it makes me believe in this even more.
I know it takes much to pull this through, and I feel like I am walking around with a constant grief..will it calm down??
Yes it will calm down
Family / Re: How Was Your First Year Of Marriage? by deybowlah: 5:28pm On Jul 20, 2012
in nigeria, people believe once married, next thing is to start raising kids but it shouldnt be so. caring for kids is not easy task. it needs lots of money and even time. marriage on the hand is challenging, combining the two can be tasking. couples need to sit down and discuss what next after marriage, when should we start raising kids, can we manage kids with our current job/school, can we afford to drop job/school to raise kids etc
in my case i guess we were too excited about getting married and getting pregnant for my love and not taking time to plan properly. imaging combining wedding plans with post grad nd pregnancy and raising my baby and planning relocation to join my husband. Too much at the same time.
Don't get me wrong my daughter is the best gift God has given to me .

Family / Re: Starting Daycare by deybowlah: 2:40am On Jul 15, 2012
@ poster, my own advise is to allow your son start creche now. I must say am not impressed with people's comment here.(sorry everyone) daycare in naija is not bad I can assure you to get a good one.I am a teacher and a masters student in early childhood education. Getting a nanny can't help ur son's social and cognitive skiLls. Starting now is best and you will be surprised at things he will learn.
If you wait till 3 or 4 for him to start, you may regret it unless he is not going to start in naija.
It is courage we need in training children cos no one can give ur child the type of care you will give
You can allow him go to daycare from 9am to 12PM daily

Family / Re: Mothers Please Talk To Me. by deybowlah: 11:55pm On Jul 03, 2012
PrettyCindy: It has been a thug of war getting my baby to eat now that am trying to introduce solids to him. He just won't eat anything apart from brea.st milk. I have tried pap, rice cereals, beans pudding, mashed potato with egg yoke, even expressed brea.st milk into the bottle for him, he refused to feed from the bottle and won't eat when spoonfed. He won't eat anything that is not coming from the brea.st. When i want to spoonfeed him, he will clasp his lips and gums shut.

I' m seriously worried because he may not be getting enough from brea.st milk.
Please how did you wean your baby? Was it difficult like this? What tricks did you use to get him/her to eat?
Your contributions will be appreciated. Thanks.
@ poster I almost didn't open this tread cos of the title but thank God I did. I am also in this same dilemma. My baby girl is 6months too and was exclusively breastfed tho I extract in bottle. Since she was 2months cos I work. I am having problem introducing solid. She accepted rice cereal and applesauce for first few days and suddenly stopped. She accept some food and rejects some. Its frustrating preparing food and at the end your baby doesn't get to take a spoon. My advice to you is to keep trying don't get discouraged.I noticed my girl prefers adult food she wants too taste my food even if she will still spit it out but she likes ewedu, moi moi coaster biscuit. You can also try feeding him with ur clean fingers he mite prefer dat to spoon. You also said he sometimes get to take 2spoons, that's ok for now . The main gist is that bossom milk is still their primary source of feeding for the first year all the solid is just exploring.
Don't worry he mite nurse more often but bossom milk is still enough.
My inlaw( husband's uncle's wife) that is taking care of my baby has suggested putting the pap or cereal in bottle she even mentioned force feeding I stylishly rejected it. They have been complaining about exclusive since she was 2months( no water no herbs nothing) they already know me as always saying her doctor said this said that stuffs lol.
To the soyabeans issuen be careful in introducing that as I heard many babies re alergic to soybeans. Start with only pap then later add only the soybeans(no crayfish and groundnut) then watch for allergy before u can now add the crayfish and stuffs. In short one food at a time. Do u knw aw to make the soyabeans urself? I can help with dat
Family / Re: A massage can go a long way to make ur spouse/dearest one appreciate u better by deybowlah: 7:46am On Jun 12, 2012
ifyalways: Whenever we are together, I give and get good massage sessions. Erotic if I may add.
@deybowlar,I learnt by going for professional massage sessions myself. Look for a spa and massage lounge in your location, and on your second or so session, you would have an idea of how to use your hands, where, how and when to massage, tickle and touch each body part.
For a perfect effect, get some nice massage oils(I recommend "body shop" Japanese musk), dim lights, cool music, fluffy pillows, solid bed and both partners na.ked.
Thanks I have gained from the advice. I promise myself to try it out.

@ poster thanks for bringing this up

I can bet it was a very low key and sober wedding.
Family / Re: How Was Your First Year Of Marriage? by deybowlah: 7:15pm On May 26, 2012
My wedding is just a year now.let me say I have not really enjoyed been married.I got pregnant immediately and my husband went back to America almost immediately. I now have my baby to cater for and I miss my husband and s*x. We talk on the phone always tho and I still give account of my movement.I pray my papers get thru soon and I join my husband then I can enjoy my marriage.
Am so glad to have my daughter around me but if I were to turn back the hands of time I will delay getting pregnant to 2yrs after marriage.
Business / Re: Walmart Nigeria: Good Or Bad Idea? (Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) by deybowlah: 7:04pm On May 24, 2012
rhymz: Walmart or no walmart, markets like Onitsha main market, Balogun, Ariaria, Isale Eko, Tejuosho and the likes will never close, Fact!!!
Shoperite still sells their items rediculously cheap, people still flock to their malls and all that, but our regular markets retail stores still stand gidi gbam. Most of the people arguing against Walmart are actually not in touch with what actually goes on in Nigerian working environment.
If you want to talk about slave labour, guy, it already exists here in Nigeria. Go to most of the factories you find in isolo, illasamaja, matori, ladipo industrial estates, apapa and the likes, factory workers there get a minimum of 500-700 per day to work in those factories for a minimum of 8hrs per day. I am talking from experience, my cousin also has worked in one of those factories as a graduate trainee in their maintenance department, this boy was being paid 23k per month and he goes to work every 4ckin day, 7am and closes 7pm.
They work even on sundays. They have two shifts that runs for 2wks, their only break comes when they change shifts and they are being paid 23k. The workers in the factory which is a plastic packaging company- they are responsible for the new bournvita plastic containers, they do numerous other packaging like that for pz and cussons, emos best, beauty fair and many more-earn ridiculous amout and endure very bad working conditions. The ladies who mostly work in the factory are paid 500 for new intakes and 700 for old workers per day.
And somebody here is making a fuss about walmart paying $7 and some cents per hour. With all the attendant under-payments, just go to the gates of these factories and see youngstars every day there waiting to be employed.
Walmart has a way better remuneration package and working condition set up than these factories, FACT!!
And there is no way walmart will penetrate the streets and corners like our small retail shops and local markets will do. Walmart will only be a headache to small retail stalls in urban centres but a good business person will find a way to leverage on it and instead partner with walmart. Ordinary people seldom go to places like shoprite not because they don't know about their price regime but cos they just can't see any reason to walk in there just to buy one item alone.
The very organized set-up in shoperite supermarkets and malls does not allow the atmosphere for somebody to just walk in there and say i want to buy only say a soap of N100 or a packet of lipton alone and leave, you will look stoopid and outta place unlike in our regular retail stores.
So ordinary folks will rather save themselves the embarassment of looking odd there and just patronize our regular retail stores. Me i stay in surulere for instance, I can't just walk into surulere shoperite all because i want to buy a packet of lipton when i can easily get it at a slightly higher price from an aboki without all those fake buyers in shoprite looking down on you like you are the poorest person there. I only worry about shoprite when i want to do some foodstuff shopping and stocking.
And about 60% of their food items and goods are your regular local stuff.
I no sabi wetin cap24 and ileke dey yarn say na only chinese stuff go dey there, shebi na if d chinese product move market no ni? They wont sell what an average Naija don't have use for na, neither will they skip milo, bournivita and ovaltin made in naija and bring in made in china.... Seriously, you guys condemning this nice opportunity should calm the 4ck down, Nigeria so badly needs walmart, yes na true!!
I completely agree with you. It is well explained.
I want you guys to know that nigerians are really suffering and employment is the easiest solution. If Walmart comes to naija it will create employment. The so called "peanuts" will go along way. Imagine the millions of naija that lives less than. $2a day and some of u are talking about Walmart paying $7 per hour.imagine the no of family members that will benefit from just Walmart employing a member of the family
It is also impossible for Walmart importing all products from china. The food items, groceries and plastics will definitely be from local companies. Most people will choose Ariel over persil in a supermarket not just because they are more familiar with Ariel but cos its cheaper and I bet does same thing. Shoprite too sells south African products for example youghurt but I bet 9/10 people will choose famfresh youghurt that is made in PH when they pay a visit to shoprite.
I can't keep explaining my point here. The bottomline is Walmart is welcome to Nigeria
