The way we harvested rice when i was young was to cut the rice at the top of the stem and then used leg to press down the rice stem to move work. This one they are doing seems to require more energy than it takes. How can you harvest acres of rice farm like this? This is just some guys playing around in a rice farm

B.A.T is the number 1 public official of Nigeria as a sitting president. So he automatically falls under one of the 12 statutory exemptions of the 1974 privacy act of 1974.

https://www.justice.gov/opcl/privacy-act-1974#:~:text=The%20Privacy%20Act%20prohibits%20the,one%20of%20twelve%20statutory%20exceptions.

Look B.A.T will be exposed very soon, he can't keep this up for long.

I don't think he has more profile than American presidents. If they did not release the college record of American presidents, I don't think Nigeria president will be consider to be more important. It does not mean the court cannot side with Atiku but that is a long route that can go all the way to supreme court if Tinubu so decided.

My opinion is that Tinubu probably bought the paper he used to travel to the united states and then went to school in the united states. I think Atiku knows this lawsuit is not going to go anywhere but to embarrass the president. It is all politics.

Let me school you on something bruh. A homeless person in America has access to Medicare, there are social programs to assist. There are food programs. There are rights and protections. You can walk into any hospital and get help.

In many cities, there is temporary housing for those who are willing to get off the streets. Unfortunately most homeless people are addicts that's why it's often difficult to recover them.

Can you say the same about Nigeria? Even a an average rich man in Nigeria can't call 911.

In America, the worst that can happen to you is to be homeless. In Nigeria you could literally die of starvation. Hospitals will reject you if you have no money.

America is the richest and probably the most advanced country in the world. It is wrong to be comparing Nigeria to America. Most developing countries are not better off than Nigeria. We are a highly populous country like India, even though India is richer than Nigeria we suffer similar faith of corrupt leaders, Ours is probably worse than most other nations.

The money they use to relocate all of them would have been enough for the wife graduate studies in Canada. after the wife has settle for about a year, the children could joined while the husband still keep his job in Niger. your rebuttal was way too simplistic and inchoate (I had worse adjectives earlier, but decided to show decorum and modified it appropriately). It actually makes me much better, cos unlike you and your friends I take responsibility for my life, decisions, actions and inactions. Moreso, the core premise of your futile rant and others like you sharing that lie and my response earlier is that you ALL implied your friends are begging you for money today simply because they didn't japa like you yesterday, and not based on the fact that life can turn at anytime for anyone anywhere!! See the obvious difference?? Well newsflash, it isn't cos of that, upon scrutiny it is majorly cos of deficit in common sense. Barring a major illness or morbidity that you have no control over that can wipe out anyone's finances, fix culpability where it is.

I left Nigeria at 29. I was working for one of the top federal parastatals and making good money. I worked many odd jobs for the first six years of my arrival before getting professional job. Even then, I never regret my decision leaving the country. Many of my former colleagues are calling me for help today.

Pele o helper general of the federal republic...and yea I do help others WHEN I FEEL LED TO even though I myself hate to bother anyone in my own moments, but thankfully I don't use their struggle in an argument online as to why an individual that opened a thread about staying or leaving a remote job on nairaland should hop on plane so he 'doesn't end up like your friends begging their abroad friends for money'..lol..

Your response shows that you are a kid that is yet to know life. Asking for help is not lack of dignity. If you are doing great as you claimed to be and not known to be stingy you would have had one or two people among your friends that have fall on hard times reaching out to you for help.
I was poor and many of my friends were poor. We came from very humble background. Some of them are directors and executives today and many are still struggling to makes ends meet. It does not means they don't have self respect, it is life. Lucky you for the challenge you have in life is a cashflow problem, it does not make you better than us. Today it is now clear to everyone that umahi wasted borrowed billions on ego trip project when most ebonyi people are poor, uneducated and hawking almost everywhere in Nigeria.

Poverty rate in ebonyi is over 80%. when the idea of the airport was first muted, some analysts advised that umahi should use the said funds for the project and invest heavily in human resource development and education, but he shoved it aside, today no Nigerian airline want to fly to ebonyi simply because it is a very unviable route for airlines.

What do you suggest for the present administration in ebonyi state as regards to the abandoned airport?

Is that normal to you?

Is that diff cos of demand?

It's too much...

We are just been exploited.

I understand what you mean, but the increase is beyond demand..

If it's demand then the price most return to normal when the demand is low..

But I doubt it will ever return to previous prices.

Demand is mostly the reason. it is the same in US. I have seen situation in US where you are going from destination A to destination C which is far than destination B. in fact you will have a stopover in destination B before getting to C. However the ticket price to destination C is far cheaper than destination B. Some people going to B will buy the cheap ticket to C and just not complete the second leg of the flight. Airline are now banning people for life if they caught you doing it.

Once a while, I come across sensible post on this forum. You are right. The previous rate was a subsidy for the rich. How many ordinary Nigerians can afford to buy plane ticket to Abuja talk less of sending their children abroad? Instead of subsidizing foreign travels and the importation of what we can manufacture at home, let the money be use for infrastructures development.
My only concern is that they will still loot the money that accrue from these policies and the country may not benefit.

RedpillAnalyst:
This is good move from Asiwaju.

This benefits the majority --> The real suffering Nigerians who can not afford a plane ticket even to Ghana.

Students in UK give no care about the average Nigerians seeing shege on daily basis.

All they do is start silly tiktoks and unfunny Instagram posts when they step out of Nigerian shores.

The spread between 415 and 750 for dollars is too much and the abusers are benefitting from it than 200 Million helpless Nigerians.

If these benefit the populace then so be it.

This is an estate. This is not a place people just buy from Omo-onile and build without proper approval. The FCT I believe approved the estate. Did they not check out the location to make sure it is not a place subject to flood? If they were negligent in given approval, they are liable to find an engineering solution. That is the purpose of government.

Recall that the administration had declared the Estate a disaster zone, adding that the decision followed the “consistent and persistent” threat from flooding in the Estate, and urged residents to promptly evacuate.

Remember, it’s a flooded area. Flooding will also jeopardize the place sooner or later & it can even kill people residing their..

Business / Re: Bank Of America Urges Nigeria To Hike Interest Rate To 25.5% To Curb Inflation by Dijita: 4:48pm On Jul 03, 2023
This is the reason you have to know the subject matter before you use chatGPT. While the explanation is correct, the explanation is contrary to the reason government increase interest rate. In monetary policy, government raise interest rate to decrease the supply of money in the economy. When there is less supply of money the demand for good and services will go down. when demands go down price go down.

In your chatGPT scenario, A rise in interest rate will result in the parent not making much money because there is less demand for what they are selling. Because they are making less money they will reduce his or her allowance and as such will reduce the quantity of goods she can buy with her allowance. Given that Sellers wanted to sell more goods ( when supply is more than demand prices fall), they will reduce their prices which reduces inflation.

In the case of BOFA, they are recommending increase in interest rate which in a country with high unemployment and majority of the workers are sustaining their income through bribery and graft. This is not likely to reduce inflation. Nigeria inflation is not as a result of over supply of money as a result of over dependent on imported goods. Instead of increasing interest rate I will recommending increasing import duties and products that can be produce locally.

exstreve:
I asked ChatGPT to explain Interest rate hike like I'm an 8 year old to some who may not understand, I do cos I trade stocks and crypto, well, here is the answer.

Well, imagine you have a piggy bank where you save your allowance money. Every once in a while, you decide to give yourself a little treat and take out some money from your piggy bank. But what if you notice that your parents start giving you more money as your allowance?

You might think, "Yay! Now I can take out more money from my piggy bank and buy even more treats!" That's kind of what a rate hike is like.

You see, when the government or a bank decides to hike, or increase, interest rates, it means they are giving more money to people. When people have more money, they tend to spend more, just like you would if you got a bigger allowance.

But why would the government or a bank do that? Well, sometimes they want people to spend more money to help businesses grow and for the economy to become stronger. When businesses grow, they can employ more people and create more jobs.

On the other hand, if the government or a bank decides to lower, or decrease, interest rates, it means they are giving people less money. In this case, people might decide to save more money instead of spending it because they aren't getting as much from their allowance. So, it's like having a smaller allowance and not being able to buy as many treats.

Rate hikes can affect many things, like how much it costs to borrow money or get a loan. When rates go up, it might become more expensive for people to borrow money, and they might not want to spend as much or take out loans to buy big things like houses or cars.

So, similar to how your allowance can affect how much you can spend on treats, rate hikes affect how much people can spend and can also influence the overall economy.

You are thanking him for faulty reasoning. If he is right, there would be no need to sneak that section into the draft. It would be specified by the national assembly that the CBN governor will be the one recommending the appointment.

This is beyond Emefiele, I have had my issue with Emefiele way before now. I have seen him as trial and error CBN governor that lack the competency to be in charge of Nigeria monetary policy. Even then, I am skeptical that this is his hand work. I am assuming that this is a major Bleep up with the people who print and collate the copy that was sent to the president for ascent. they probably print a copy that did not become law.
I am assuming that Emefiele knows that he is not going to be the CBN governor for life. The time the law will favor him is going to be the present dispensation and the people that passed the law will still be around and will detect the problem. I am probably giving him too much credit, given the level of his Bleep up in recent times.

IfnobeGod20:

What you're saying should be the right thing if the act that established them says a fine can be imposed if any broadcasting station erred and the range of the fine imposed is stipulated in their act. But the inhouse made rule by NBC is against the constitution and that is what the court is saying.
If NCC act have the backing of imposing certain amount of money for any telecommunication offender, there is nothing any court can do about it. So, each agency has its own act. For example, in the regulation of private guards, the law has stipulated the amount of fine if any private guard breached any guideline. So, if such imposed, no court can void it because it is an act of Parliament. It is now an eye opener for them to go to national assembly to fine-tune the law that established them for more biting.
In your logic, NBC is a regulatory agency that can not impose penalty. That is a powerless agency. It is not in all cases that the law specifies the amount that must be imposed. Who knows this ruling, if it stands will upend the Nigeria regulatory system. Because it is not only NBC that impose fines.

You are comparing Apples to Oranges.

The baseline here is the Nigerian Constitution and not the Constitution of the United States of America. Yes, there are similarities but the two books are totally different.

A very good example is, the word "Impeachment" can be found in the America Constitution and also in Nigeria Constitution, but the meaning and applications are totally different. In the US to impeach the President simply means for the House to indict him or charge him with an offense but in Nigeria impeaching the President means removing him/her from office.

To understand the subject matter, consult the Nigeria Constitution, The Act establishing these Agencies and Case Laws in Nigeria...The fact that, the Act ascribe powers to a particular Agency does not mean that those powers are valid, they can be challenged and if they run contrary to the Constitution of Nigeria they will be stricken down.
Did you read the article? What section of the constitution did the judge base his decision on? He based it on the principle of separation of power. Separation of power is universal in most constitutional government.

Maybe i am wrong BUT This doesnt make sense. NBC is a regulating commission, it should have power to be able to sanction erring broadcasting organisation without having to rely on the judiciary.

Instead it is the broadcasting organisation that should file a case at the court if they are not satisfy with the sanctions imposed on them.

It is more like telling LASTMA, ROAD SAFETY or other precautionary and regulating agency to seek court intervention before impounding your vehicle for going against the law or NCC trying to seek court intervention before imposing sanctions on erring network providers. This are regulatory bodies, it is one of their main responsibility taken away from them while rendering them incapacitated.

Court process takes to long. We all know NBC is the only thing holding this mischievous and overly sentimental media houses by the balls and checkmating their excesses. If not, journalism would have been an insane crazy affair in this country. It should be the other way round. Anyone who is not satisfy with the sanctions should go to court not the regulatory body seek court intervention and interpretation before imposing sanctions.

Take a look at ARISETV as a case study. This is an invitation to unethical, unprincipled journalism.

You are not wrong. It is a judgement that will not stand.

I am not a fan of NBC. However, I think this judge interpretation of the law get K leg. Even in western countries ministries and and agencies impose fines. If the company feels the fine is unjust, they can go to court for the court to arbitrate.
May be this is just fake news. otherwise going by the logic you can not be issued with parking or driving violations unless you go to court.

"Between 1990 and 2004, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued fines totaling $2.5 million to radio licensees for airing material it deemed indecent from The Howard Stern Show, the highest amount of any American radio show."

I believe you can build your clientele, if you are a good lawyer, if you start running your practice from your room. Print adverts and pass it around the police stations in your neighborhood, print cards, create website to write commentaries on legal issues, promote yourself on social media. It may be very hard at the beginning but after one or two years you will be glad you did.

You're not seeing the full pictures but you're judging on sentiment. I once apply to study medicine at Canada and I know how much it cost and other western countries, medical studies are very cheap in Nigeria compare to other countries that's why we have alot of them here. If all this countries take all of our country doctors finish, who is going to treat average Nigerians if we are sick?, What's the benefit that our medical studies is cheap if we are exporting them to the western world
There is complexity in public policy especially in education and medical care. Education is expensive everywhere. Nigeria is not the only country subsiding medical education. The western nations subsidized their education more than in Nigeria. It cost poor people to educate their children in Nigeria than poor Americans or Canadians. I have two kids that have graduated college in Engineering and Health care. I spend more money educating relatives kid in Nigeria than I spend on my children in America. If you children are averagely ok academically they can attend college free from elementary to PHD level. I have my third child in community college, her honor program provided her with free computer, We initially pay for her tuition but she was awarded full scholarship and we were refunded what we pay.
It is not my position that the medical brain drain is not an issue, but my issue is the people that is living large on government that is suppose to tackle the problem proposing solution that is not likely to address the issue.
