You can't say that. Those people would probably think the same about you that heard 'laurel'
Education / Re: Do You Hear Yanny Or Laurel? It's Crazy by Dimahtee: 9:20pm On Apr 07, 2020
Heard both

I heard 'laurel' when I listened to it from Whatsapp (using WhatsApp built in media).

I heard 'Yanny' when I listened to it from my phone's file manager( using Android's built in Video Player).

Everybody else around me heard 'yanny' in both cases.
Health / Re: FACT-CHECK: Is Coronavirus Caused By 5G Technology? by Dimahtee: 9:47pm On Apr 04, 2020
*Below are submissions of three professors of radiation physics in UI copied from Science Faculty platform to debunk the narratives in the trending audio on 5G*

*Dr Popoola*

The man who made this audio message can be likened to someone who is interpreting a strange language he has never studied. He does not know what he's saying.
In a simple language, the so called 5G (fifth generation) is a transmission at far higher frequency range than 4G. This feature implies transmission of greater quantum of energy (signal) per time, hence heavy data (such as images) will download faster and will be transmitted at higher resolution. Meanwhile this may require more booster antennas at closer ranges in order to travel very far because high frequency signals get attenuated faster than low frequency signals. In short 5G will be able to accommodate larger data than 4G.
Generally, people have always displayed some fear each time a new technology arose. The fear attributed to mobile technology is that the signals (waves) are injurious to humans. Meanwhile all mobile signals most fall within microwaves (extreme end of radio waves) which are non ionizing radiations. Ionizing radiations like x-rays and gamma rays have far higher frequencies and exposure to human body may be injurious. However are not used for mobile telecommunication.
The man's use of the word 'radioactive' reveals that he is completely ignorant of what he claims to be explaining. The word Radioactive is from Radioactivity which is a completely different phenomenon from radio wave. Technology is more than speculation. It is a product of basic scientific theories.

*Prof Farai:*

I remain proud of you Tunde. Just look at the confidence with which he was talking nonsense. I was just wondering how I would present a rejoinder in a language that we will all understand and without sounding know it all. You have captured all with the appropriate words. It is now up to anybody to allow him/herself to be misled. God bless you richly, my brother.

*Prof Jibri:*
I really don't understand over stretching of a simple scientific matter. Simple basic physics which our Prof. Farai has laid to rest for us as a guru in Radiation business. Use E = hf from modern Physics and the frequencies or the wavelengths of the regions for the G's what amount of energy do you arrive at. Just like Prof. Farai said, mixing up non-ionizing radiation source to be Radioactive is a simple QED ignoramus!!

*Prof Farai*
I hope we will all understand the nonsense in this video from this simple explanation. Communication networks of whatever G, for now and in the near future, are generally in frequencies of the order of Giga Hertz (GHz or 10⁹ Hz). Thank God the video revealed this much. Meanwhile, the bulk of energy from the sun (solar radiation) is in the UV frequency range (i.e.10¹⁵ Hz). Now I ask, how can mankind, who has been bathing under the shower of UV radiation from the sun over the ages, now be under any threat of a radiation of energy over 1 million times less energy than UV radiation? That is one point.
Most importantly for us on this platform, there is no application of a technology that is not under any regulatory control by international bodies made up experts from all parts of globe. Most of us have one thing or the other to do with such bodies as WHO, ICNIRC, UNSCEAR, etc. If they are unaware of the fears expressed in this video or have been compromised, then we are all guilty. We should stop attending their programmes.

Education / Re: What Does Someone Who Doesn't Know How To Swim Do To Keep Floating In Water? by Dimahtee: 3:11pm On Jan 05, 2019
lilkech:
When it comes down to it swimming is hard, be very careful near water if you can’t swim.

If you walk into the water and pass your dept you could drown by struggling on its surface before sinking but if you suddenly dropped dead into the water from a height or violently you might drown before resurfacing because you’ve already sunk too deep, get knocked out or might run out of oxygen to keep brain and reflex functions while in the water to even struggle.

What’s easy is floating. Anybody can float no matter your size. It’s just knowing how to do it that’s the key. See my own style of floating.

Sit down on the floor with both your legs stretched out in front of you and all toes pointing upwards, done? Now stretch out both your hands in front of you with palms facing downwards, done? Now tilt your head all the way back until you’re staring at the ceiling, done? Now hold it for a minute, That right there is the posture you’d put your. Did your body ache? Yes because swimming is a sport, an exercise that involves all joints and muscles in your body being active.

Now for movements you’d make to stay afloat.

Imagine you’re in a palace and servant to a king. A no nonsense king. It’s a very hot day and you are on (toshiba duty) to keep him cool.

Now there’s a flat broad leather fan you’d be holding to fan your king. You see the way those servants hold it to ‘fan’ the king sitting on his throne? Yes that’s the movement your hands will be making with your palms facing downward, fingers opened up flat and wide (like a frogs feet) and flapping in unison. Remember that both hands must flap in a parallel motion in the water and must be flapping at full speed. You’d better flap with your vigor as a first time floater just as the servant will flap to cool his hot angry king on a good day so as not to ‘lose his head’.

Now for your legs feet. While in that sitting position draw both legs up towards your chest with your feet still touching the floor as you do it (drag both feet on the floor and your knees to your chest). Now stretch your legs out flat out again so they are both resting on the floor with your toes pointing upwards. You see that motion, you will be doing it again but rapidly. In fact you’d be doing so fast you’d be looking like a kangaroo doing 100m race if you know you want to be on top the water.

Your head will be bent backwards but instead of the seeing your ceiling you’d be looking up on the water ahead of you taking breaths on the surface while your limbs do all the fanning and kicking.

If you can attain that posture on the water Your legs and feet, hands and palms will be forming a current under your floating torso which will keep your chest and head on the surface of the water. You’d also be able to move front and back and also turn left and right by tiny adjustments to the way your limbs fan and kick under you.

With this method you be floating and swimming in no time. Just know that everyone has their way but this is mine and someone thought me to use it at the time.

If I swim in front of you I’d look like a dog swimming in water. It’s funny but It stuck. It works and It saves lives so you need to Learn it too. Take 500 naira to a pool with friends and try it out. After learning to float You’d be swimming in no time.

DokitaDave:
Hello colleagues,

I have been reading for days now some person's continued insistence on protesting the delayed payment of Agbami scholarship (interestingly, those who just wrote the scholarship test this year and are not even sure if they qualified are also in support).

While i understand that the turn of events last year might have informed this suggestion, i don't think it is the best for now.

Have we explored all diplomatic means to know the state of things? No. We know Star Deep Water, Dragnet and Scholastica are major companies involved in this award thing; they all have social media handles, websites, e-mail addresses and even phone contacts. How many of us have tried reaching out to them to know what exactly is causing the delay and when they intend to communicate?

I also wrote the exam this year and I am very optimistic, just as I also need the money. But then, we should learn to do things the normal and reasonable way. Everything is not about protest, please.
.

This makes sense.

Why would anyone want to protest over a CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility), something embarked upon by the awarders just to improve their ethical image. I mean it is not a salary or wage that you can claim a right over.

Plus, giving past events, it is not too late.

I participated in the last screening test and I am optimistic to be among the awardees but the idea of a protest sounds too ludicrous to me.

Education / Re: Why Are School Children Not Repeating Classes Again? by Dimahtee: 9:53am On Oct 24, 2018
Aditii:
Is that not progress? Does that not show that children are getting smarter? So to you, the number of times a child repeats depicts quality education? You Africans and your sickening backwards mentality. Spits!

You've got the message wrong, sis. Repeating actually ensures a child is prepared for what's s/he will face ahead.

Aditii:
Is that not progress? Does that not show that children are getting smarter?

It's actually not progress if a child will face problems in future because s/he he lacks the prerequisite knowledge he should have garnered. That's for children that are supposed to repeat.
