Politics / The Downside Of Tribalism In Nigeria by Dluxdstory: 1:48am On Jul 19, 2020
Nigeria is a multi-eth ic and culturally diverse federation which consists of 36 autonomous states and the federal capital territory. With abundance of natural resources, Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil exporter and has the largest natural gas reserves on the African continent.

Tribalism which is the state of being organized in or advocating for, a tribute or tribes has been used interchangeably with ethnicity to describe or analyse various forms of anomalies in Nigeria's Nation building.

In Nigeria today, Tribalism has dominated national discourse, controls how people think and talk, and determines what the support or oppose. It is being promoted and elevated by politcal elites and are embraced by the young and old, and even have base in the nation's constitution. Most conflicts in Nigeria is being fueled by ethnic competition and has thus made Tribalism to become more of a threat rather than a course of National pride

Tribalism has flourished because the Nigerian elites have conceptualized development as transferring resources from civil public to primordial public thereby making Nigeria a failed state which is being backed up by cultural and value decadence, fragile political structure, poor leadership and frequent ethno-religious crisis.

Some of the Downsides of Tribalism in Nigeria include;

Inability to fight corruption: In Nigeria, there is this unwritten tradition that forbids citizens from exposing or prosecuting fellow tribesman for corrupt practices. Corruption tendencies are exhibited and laws violated yet such individual invoke ethnic sentiments to get away from it and/or prevent prosecution.

Employment: Majorly, employment guarantees or awarding of contracts has become a function of ones tribes person in position of authority in Nigeria. Merits and excellence are sacrificed on the altar of primordial thinking.

Politics of Division: The constant rise of politcal tensions in Nigeria is mainly as a result of avoidable clash between forces of democracy and that of tribal interests. The power-play in politics have negatively influenced a tradition or emerging mentality of political office rotation mainly between the North and the South.

Distrust: One of the basic impact of tribalism in Nigeria is a culture of distrust amongst various groups in the country.

Promotion of Mediocrity and suppression of Justice: Tribalism is flourishing in Nigeria because it has become an effective tool that gives the user an edge in the eternal struggle to gain government patronage. It is also used politically to cover abuse of office and to escape justice after leaving office.

In conclusion, Tribalism has exposed the Nation to bizarre conflicts with loss of life and properties, creating uncertainties in politics. There is need to re-educate or re-oriente the political elites on the constant danger of using ethno-religious cards to acquire electoral offices or leadership positions. This trend must not be allowed to continue.

The way forward
¶ Amending the Constitution to adequately address clauses that abrogate powers to ethnic or regional structures

¶ There is need for a fairer resources management tht would be acceptable to those who pay the human and environmental prise for Nigeria's oil powered economy.

¶ Nigeria must control corruption by making stealing impossible and prosecution Swift and certain

¶ Nigeria must learn to enthrone transparency and accountability in goverance.

Thanks for taking your time to go through this article. Reactions and criticisms are welcome but should be constructive.

Politics / Epic Wars That Altered The Course Of History by Dluxdstory: 7:27pm On Jul 17, 2020
Wars and conflicts are menacing, devastating and dangerous. Battles win wars, redraw borders and topple thrones and are instrumental in moulding the future. They influence the wide spread of culture, civilization and religious beliefs. Battles also introduce weapons, tactics and leaders who dominate future conflicts. Some battles have also been influential not for their direct results but for the impact of their propaganda on public opinion.

Below are ranking of Battles according to their influence on history with detailed locations, participants, leaders of the battle and provides narratives on who won, who lost and why and the impact on the victors and losers.

VIENNA

(Austrian-Ottoman Wars, 1529)

The Ottoman's unsuccessful siege of Vienna in 1529 marked the beginning of the long decline of the empire and thus the end of Islam's advancement into Central and Western Europe, and ensured Christian dominate the region.

In 1520, Suleiman II had become the tenth sultan of the ottoman Turks empire spanning from the person frontier to West Africa and included much of the Balkans. Suleiman has just inherited the best trained Army in the world. At the heart of his Army are the specially trained Janissaries which made the sultan to begin plans on expanding his empire even further

Suleiman also has to his name, one of the best Navies which he used to besiege Rhodes(his first conquest) granting safe passage to the defenders in exchange for their surrender. In 1522, the Sultan took control of Rhodes and much of the Mediterranean.

By 1528, Suleiman has conquered Hungary and placed his own puppet on their throne leaving Austria as the only blockade between the Turks and Western Europe. Taking advantage of the discord between Austria and it's allies, Suleiman made a secret alliance with King Francis I of France, making him withdraw political support from the Austrians; leaving King Charles of Austria and his Austrians to stand alone against the Ottoman-Turks.

On April 10, 1529, Suleiman and his Army of more than 120,000 and accompained by 200,000 support personnel and camp followers departed Constantinople for the Austrian capital of Vienna raiding and pillaging towns and countryside for slaves and supplies.

Vienna under the able military command of Count Niklas Von Salm-Reifferscheidt and Wilheim Von Rogendorf prepared for the impending battle. The entire Austrian Garrison numbered about 20,000 soilders supported by 72 cannons had reinforcement of 700 musket-armed infantry men from Spain.

Despite it's disadvantage, there were several natural factors supporting Vienna's defence; the Danube blocking any approach from the North, Werner waterway runniyalong the Eastern side thus leaving only the West and southern sides of Vienna to be defended. One other factors greatly aided Vienna. The summer of 1527 was one of the wettest which greatly aided in delaying the Ottoman's advance and made conditions difficult for the marching army.

Upon his arrival and Austrians refusal to surrender, Suleiman layed siege on the city and began artillary barrage against it's walls of which the Austrians greatly repelled. By October 12, the Austrians have inflicted great damage on the Turks and for the first time, Suleiman has failed. The Ottoman-Turks army had no choice but to burn their camps and withdrew back to Constantinople.

Following the battle at Vienna, the West no longer viewed the Ottoman-Turks and their Janissaries as invincible and thus stopped the Turks advance into Europe; instead the Ottoman-Turk empire's power and influence began it's slow but steady decline.

WATERLOO
(Napoleonic Wars, 1815)

The defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo in 1815 brought an end to French domination of Europe and a period of peace that lasted for half a century. It ended the French legacy of greatness which they have not recovered from; etched it's name in history's best known battles and the phrase "Waterloo" has come to be known as "decision and complete defeat".

In 1789, during the eruption of the French revolution, 21 year old Napoleon abandoned his junior officer position in the king's military to join the rebellion. He was instrumental in supressing a Royalist uprising in 1795 for which his reward was the command of the French Army.

Between 1799 and 1890, Napoleon carried out a successful coup and becoming the country's defacto leader. He established the Napoleonic code, assured individual rights and instituted a rigid conscription system to build and even larger Army. He invaded Austria, expanding the French border line with his offensive nature and leading France to war with the British in 1803.

Following his self declaration as the Emperor of France in 1804, Napoleon acheived numerous victories in wars that spanned for 8 years thereby making new enemies in the process. Following his Naval loss at the battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon successfully invaded Russia claiming that military might is on land and not sea.

By the spring of 1813, Britain, Russia, Prussia and Sweden allied against France at the battle of Leipzig in which the French forces were defeated forcing Napoleon to withdraw to southern France.

At the urging of his loyalist, Napoleon exiled himself on April 1, 1814 to the island of Elsa near Corsica Spain. Less than a year later, he escaped exile and sailed to France where for the next 100 days, struck terror across Europe and threatened once again to dominate Europe. The then king of France King Louis XVIII, dispatched the French Army to arrest the nuisance Napoleon but the French forces instead rallied to his side forcing the king to flee from the country and Napoleon reclaiming the throne.

Again the coalition agreed to assemble men together in Belgium to invade France following the news of Napoleon's return. On hearing the news, Napoleon assembled his men to war before the coalition could organize themselves.

By the early hours of June 18, Napoleon and his Army arrived mount Jean in Waterloo, a small village outside of Brussels to engage in war against the coalition forces. More than 26,000 French forces were filed and another 9000 captured at Waterloo. Allied casualties totalled 22,000 and thus marking the defeat and decline of the Napoleonic era.

France never recovered it's greatness after the battle at Waterloo. Through the passage of time, Waterloo has become synonymous with total defeat but while the war brought an end to one age, it urshered in another. Although France lost, the spirit of their revolution and individual rights spread across Europe. No kingdom or country would again be the same.

ATOMIC BOMBING OF JAPAN
(World war II, 1945)

On August 1945, the United States of America dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to hasten the end of the world war II. It was the first and only use of such weapon of mass destruction till date.

After the attack of pearl harbor by the Japanese forces, the Americans launched a small carrier based bomber raids against Japan which did little to dispirit the Japanese forces. It was not until late 1944 that the United States mounted a sustained raids against Japanese soils following the capture of the Marina island.

Despite the continuous air raids and shrinking territories, the Japanese forces fought on.

By July 16, 1945, the Manhattan engineer district of the United States of America successfully carried out history's first atomic explosion. The then president of America realised that the atomic bombs; the most terrible thing ever made could shorten the war and prevent numerous allied forces casualties during ground invasion of Japan, leading to July 27th ultimatum " Surrender or the US will drop a super weapon" but the Japanese refused.

In the early hours of August 6, 1945 the United States of America dropped an atomic bombs code named "little boy" at Hiroshima. 3 days later, they dropped an even larger one code named "fat one" at Nagasaki bringing the total death toll from the two explosions to 130,000 people and total destruction of the two cities, leading to Japan surrendering in August 15, 1945 and end to the world war II.

There can be no doubts that the dropping of the atomic bombs shortened the war. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is the only time airstrikes affected the outcome of a conflict.

In addition to speeding up the conclusion of world war II, the development of the atomic bombs gave America unmatched military superiority and gave rise to massive technologically advanced world. It also brought to an end to Japanese Asian superiority and gave way to the rise of China as a force of it's own.

Politics / Burnt Survivals Of A Ghastly Motor Accident by Dluxdstory: 4:59pm On Jul 07, 2020
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has
recorded 8,527 road traffic crashes (RTC)
across the country from January to date,
Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi
Kazeem, said.
Mr Kazeem told the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja
that 4,163 people were killed in crashes
during the period.
This would give an average of about 12
people daily since the start of the year.
The official said that 59,724 people were
involved in the road crashes in which
14,425 vehicles were involved.
He said that 4,163 people died, while
27,408 were injured in the accidents while
27,523 escaped without injuries.
Mr Kazeem added that 621,776 offences
were recorded during the period and
555,991 motorists were apprehended and
penalised for various road traffic offences.
“A total of 108,759 apprehended offenders
were cautioned and enlightened on basic
safety tips and were allowed to go
without any fine,” he said.

MARSHALS
Mr Kazeem, who frowned at the negative
attitude of some road users, warned that
the FRSC would intensify enforcement
and public enlightenment on safety.
“FRSC adopts a multi-dimensional and
holistic approach when it comes to
achieving safer motoring environment.
“Every year, the corps does a general
assessment and analysis of its strategies
so as to strengthen areas where we made
progress and work on areas that we could
not achieve much in preparation for the
next year.
“It is this inbuilt consistency and
dynamism that has helped us achieve this
much in crash reduction and the Corps
has already swung into action,” he said.
Mr Kazeem said that the FRSC had
constituted an aggressive engagement of
stakeholders and major fleet operators
other than enlightenment to reduce
statistics of road crashes.
“Key road safety issues that will
drastically bring down crashes associated
with the fleet have been agreed upon.
“Aside that, in the event of any
breakdown, strategies have been put in
place to ensure prompt removal of all
broken down trucks and others on the
road,” he said. (NAN)

Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven,
exult, let Angel ministers of God exult,
let the trumpet of salvation
sound aloud our mighty King's triumph!
Be glad, let earth be glad, as glory floods
her,
ablaze with light from her eternal King,
let all corners of the earth be glad,
knowing an end to gloom and darkness.
Rejoice, let Mother Church also rejoice,
arrayed with the lightning of his glory,
let this holy building shake with joy,
filled with the mighty voices of the peoples.
(Therefore, dearest friends,
standing in the awesome glory of this holy light,
invoke with me, I ask you,
the mercy of God almighty,
that he, who has been pleased to number me,
though unworthy, among the Levites,
may pour into me his light unshadowed,
that I may sing this candle's perfect praises.)
( V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with your spirit.)
V. Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord.
V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.
It is truly right and just, with ardent love of mind
and heart
and with devoted service of our voice,
to acclaim our God invisible, the almighty Father,
and Jesus Christ, our Lord, his Son, his Only
Begotten.
Who for our sake paid Adam's debt to the eternal
Father,
and, pouring out his own dear Blood,
wiped clean the record of our ancient sinfulness.
These, then, are the feasts of Passover,
in which is slain the Lamb, the one true Lamb,
whose Blood anoints the doorposts of believers.
This is the night,
when once you led our forebears, Israel's children,
from slavery in Egypt
and made them pass dry-shod through the Red Sea.
This is the night
that with a pillar of fire
banished the darkness of sin.
This is the night
that even now, throughout the world,
sets Christian believers apart from worldly vices
and from the gloom of sin,
leading them to grace
and joining them to his holy ones.
This is the night,
when Christ broke the prison-bars of death
and rose victorious from the underworld.
Our birth would have been no gain,
had we not been redeemed.
O wonder of your humble care for us!
O love, O charity beyond all telling,
to ransom a slave you gave away your Son!
O truly necessary sin of Adam,
destroyed completely by the Death of Christ!
O happy fault
that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!
O truly blessed night,
worthy alone to know the time and hour
when Christ rose from the underworld!
This is the night
of which it is written:
The night shall be as bright as day,
dazzling is the night for me,
and full of gladness.
The sanctifying power of this night
dispels wickedness, washes faults away,
restores innocence to the fallen, and joy to
mourners,
drives out hatred, fosters concord, and brings down
the mighty.
On this, your night of grace, O holy Father,
accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
an evening sacrifice of praise,
this gift from your most holy Church.
But now we know the praises of this pillar,
which glowing fire ignites for God's honor,
a fire into many flames divided,
yet never dimmed by sharing of its light,
for it is fed by melting wax,
drawn out by mother bees
to build a torch so precious.
O truly blessed night,
when things of heaven are wed to those of earth,
and divine to the human.
Therefore, O Lord,
we pray you that this candle,
hallowed to the honor of your name,
may persevere undimmed,
to overcome the darkness of this night.
Receive it as a pleasing fragrance,
and let it mingle with the lights of heaven.
May this flame be found still burning
by the Morning Star:
the one Morning Star who never sets,
Christ your Son,
who, coming back from death's domain,
has shed his peaceful light on humanity,
and lives and reigns for ever and ever.
R. Amen.

Clara
A wave of indifference masked the anger on
his face and he averted his eyes from my face.
He had lost the extra pounds and his face was
thinner than before. The way his black shirt
hugged his forearms told me that he had spent
his share of time in gym. There was a stubble
covering his strong jaw and his hair was gelled
to side with perfection.
But if the last six years had taught me
anything, looks are deceptive. I am not that girl
anymore who ran after beauty, that girl died
years ago.
"Miss...?" he assessed my face with his
calculative eyes, waiting for me to tell him my
surname. The file was in front of him but he
didn't bother to look into it. He wanted to hear
it from my mouth, as if he wanted me to feel
the guilt reverberating through each cell of my
body.
"Clara." I said, lowering my head so that I
won't have to look into his eyes.
"Clara Vincent?" he asked in a serious tone, his
piercing gaze boring hole in my forehead.
"Avery. Clara Avery!" I said, my voice thickened
with guilt and embarassment.
My eyes flickered to his hands which were
balled into fists, indicating that he was trying
to control his anger. If he was, he was really
good at it because his face didn't give away. A
faint hint of smile played on his face, probably
at the cruelty of destiny that it brought both of
us together after so many years.
"Do you think of yourself as a loyal person?" he
asked, his light brown eyes holding me
captive.
"What?" I asked, dumbfounded.
"Loyalty is an important quality Miss. Avery,
something we like to see in our employees."
he stated in a cold, distant voice. "So tell me,
do you consider yourself loyal?"
"I.. Um.." I didn't know what to say. If I say
yes, he would probably laugh at me. "I don't
know." I said and the corner of his lips moved
slightly upwards.
"You can go now, Miss. Avery. Our team will
contact you if you get the job." he dismissed,
lowering his head to my file. I whispered
thanks to him and then stood up, but not
before committing his face to my memory.
Because there was high chance that we won't
meet again.
...
"Are you sure it was him?" Ava asked and I
narrowed my eyes at her.
"Yes Ava. I am sure." I rolled my eyes. Of
course It was him. Even if I hadn't heard his
name, I'd still recognize him. His eyes had
haunted me for years in my dreams. Whenever
anything bad happened to me, his face would
appear in front of my eyes, telling me that it's
karma for what I did to him.
"I'm not getting the job, right?" I sighed, putting
the slice of pizza in my mouth.
"Do you want me to lie?" she said, looking
equally worried.
Ava had been a constant support to me since I
met her and I owe her a lot but I needed a job
now. I couldn't be a burden on her anymore.
To regain my self-respect, I needed to be
independent and I couldn't do that if I stay with
her without rent or don't pay my share of bills.
"Don't worry Clar, you'll be fine. Come on, let's
watch a movie." she said and turned the TV
on. A romcom was playing on the TV so I
brought two cans of soft drink from the kitchen
and passed one towards her.
I tried my best to focus on the movie but my
mind kept diverting to Aaron Vincent. The
contempt in his eyes, the ticking of his jaw,
the hatred on his face, everything played in
front of my eyes and I felt like drowning in
guilt.
...
"How did your interview go?" Troy asked when
he noticed me in the cafeteria. I had changed
into the waitress' uniform and was now starting
my shift. I told him that the interview went
really bad and I might not get the job.
"So you'll continue working as a waitress
here?" he asked while making the coffee. He
was a barista in this cafe and he makes the
best coffee in the world. He was the one who
taught me how to make coffee.
"No." I let out a long sigh. "I might try my luck
at any other restaurant or cafe with a better
salary." The owner of this cafe was a single
mom and she couldn't afford to give me a
reasonable salary as she had three children.
But despite the salary, working with such
people was a nice experiment.
After my shift, I changed out of my work outfit
and picked up my bag, strolling towards our
apartment. The weather was really pleasant
today. Stars sprinkled like salts on a black
marble and moon shining in its full glory, I
relished in the cold weather and wrapped my
hands around myself.
Once I reached the apartment, I walked into the
kitchen and pulled out a carton of orange juice,
bringing it to the couch with me. When I sat
on the couch, my phone started ringing.
Exhausted, I dragged myself to my bag and
pulled out my phone to answer it.
"Is this Miss. Avery?" a masculine voice said
from the other side. My mind automatically
went to Steven Industries and I prepared myself
for rejection.
"Yes. You're talking to her." I mumbled under
my breath.
"Miss. Avery, I'm talking from Steven industries
and you're being appointed as the personal
assistant of Amber Steven. You are expected
to be here this Monday at sharp 8am." he said
and without waiting for my answer, cut the
call.
I stood there frozen, still surprised at my
selection. I heard the opening of door and
Ava's voice reached my ears but I didn't move,
just kept staring at mobile screen.
"Hey, what happened?" Ava asked when she
noticed me glaring at my mobile in a weird
way.
"Um.. I got a call from Steven Industries." I
informed her without any expression on my
face.
Her face turned sullen at the mention and pity
appeared in her eyes. "It's okay sweetheart.
You'll find another job. Don't worry." she said
and attempted to hug me.
"I got the job." I whispered and her eyes
widened. A full blown smile appeared on her
face and she excitedly jumped towards me,
enveloping me in a hug.
"You got the job." she screamed in her loud
voice, putting all her weight on me. Though
she looked really happy, I couldn't help but feel
worried. He gave me job despite everything
and I couldn't figure out why. I wondered if it
was a revenge for my actions or there was any
other motive in his mind.

‍‍‍PROLOGUE‍‍‍

Clara
"Clara! Clara!"
My chain of thoughts broke when Ava's voice
pierced into my ears while her hand slightly
tapped my arm. Moving out of trance, I looked
around my surroundings and realised that we
had already reached Steven Industries. Panic
whirled inside my mind and I looked into the
mirror.
Lost in my thoughts, I hadn't even closed the
side window and now I was ended up with a
bird's nest on my hair. That's one of the many
upsides of thick, wavy hair like mine and
unlike blonde and brunette hair, this tangled
mess look didn't suit my reddish brown locks.
"I can't appear in the interview looking like
this." I exclaimed nervously and searched for
the hairbrush inside my purse. When I didn't
find one, my face contorted badly. "I don't
think I should go inside."
Ava slapped her forehead and groaned before
running her fingers through my hair, untangling
the knots. "It's normal to panic before interview
but if you talked about skipping this interview
one more time, I'll push you out of my car."
After almost fifteen minutes of pep talk, I
exited the car and walked towards the gigantic
building of Steven Industries, which was the
biggest one of its kind in California.
The dark green skyscraper greeted me as I
entered inside, my borrowed heels making
noise on the floor. It has been years since I
last wore heels and I have been out of practice
since then. In addition to my misery, due to
Ava's slim built, her tea pink business suit
was realky tight around my chest and behind,
making it look like I intentionally did it.
Hopefully Mr. Peter Steven won't turn out to be
a creepy and predatory sort of guy.
I asked the receptionist about the interview and
she guided me to the elevator. I pushed the
buttons to 25th floor. Another girl entered the
elevator and from the looks, she was here for
the interview too. But unlike me, she looked
really sophisticated and intelligent in her black
business suit and blonde locks pulled up in a
small bun.
Well, guess who is getting the job.
She smiled at me when she noticed me staring
at her and introduced herself. I did the same
and felt envious of her british accent and
eloquence. If I were the one giving job, I would
definitely give the job to her.
When the door of the elevator opened, my
mind froze as I saw almost twenty women and
ten men sitting there for the interview, half of
them looked like they were Ivy League
graduates, and then there was me who studied
in a local community college.
I sat beside the same girl I met in the elevator
and peeked inside her CV that she was
checking. She was a graduate from Dartmouth.
My nervousness heightened and I lowered my
gaze to the ground.
One by one, a man in his thirties called each
name. Each interview would take about ten
minutes and most of the candidates came out
with a smile on their faces.
"Clara Avery!" I was lost in my thoughts when
the man called my name. Picking up my file
and letting out some deep breaths, I stood up
and trudged towards the room.
The man opened the door and I walked inside,
trying my best to keep my face confident. The
chair of the CEO was turned around so I
couldn't see his face. I looked around and
contemplated what to do before sitting on the
chair.
I was still biting my tongue when the chair
rotated, revealing the CEO to me and I couldn't
hide my surprise. It wasn't a man like I
searched on the internet, instead it was a
woman, a really pretty woman. She looked like
she was straight out of a fashion magazine.
Her makeup was on point and her hair was
styled with perfection. The dress she was
wearing must have cost a grand and the best
thing about her was the gentle smile on her
face.
"You're the CEO?" I asked and instantly
regretted. "Sorry I didn't mean.. Umm.. I just
thought the CEO is a man named Peter
Steven."
She chucked before passing the glass of water
to me on watching my nervousness. "Peter
Steven is my husband. He is working on his
book so I am the new CEO. Hope you don't
have any issue with it."
I gulped before shaking my head hard. She
passed me another smile and looked into my
file. I interlocked my fingers, something I did
whenever I was nervous. She assessed my file
cautiously after which she closed it and kept it
away.
"Why did you take a two-year break after high
school?" she asked, staring intently at my face.
I pulled my hair behind my ears and tried to
think of an appropriate answer. I couldn't tell
her the exact reason, could I?
"There were some family issues." I told her
and she nodded.
"You had a good GPA in high school. Why
community college then?" she asked and
propped her elbows on the desk.
I licked my dry lips nervously and started, "Like
I said, there were some family issues. I
couldn't afford to join any big institute."
She nodded like she understood but I thought
otherwise. "Any special skills, Clara?" she
inquired using my name this time, leaning
back into her seat.
I searched through my brain for the answer but
didn't find any. I didn't have any special skills,
life didn't give me a chance to learn. I was too
busy trying to find food to eat that learning
special skills were of secondary importance to
me. "I make great coffee." I said and a grin
appeared on her face.
"Well, coffee is a major requirement." she
commented. She was about to ask me another
question when the door opened and someone
walked inside. I kept my face still, even
though curiosity arose in my mind regarding
the intruder.
"Amber, you need to be in the conference
room. The chinese delegates are waiting for
you." a masculine voice said. The voice was
vaguely familiar and not to mention, deep and
hot.
"Oh I totally forgot." Mrs. Steven said, pouting
at the man. "Can you please continue the
interview? I'll be back." she requested him and
stood up and I got a chance to admire her full
length dress. It was a dark green bodycon
dress with two small slits at both sides of her
shiny, toned legs. There was a white strap in
the middle, decorated with small crystals.
"Miss. Avery, Mr. Vincent will continue your
interview. He is the COO of this company. Best
of luck!" she told me and then walked past
me.
Vincent? It can't be that Vincent. Right?
The footsteps came closer as I felt a pair of
eyes on me. The man started with a "Hello"
and reached the desk, flopping on the chair
without casting a glance towards me.
And when he finally looked at me, both of us
froze for a moment. I couldn't believe my eyes
for a minute. He was there, in front of me,
after six years. I spent years hiding from him
and destiny has brought me in front of him
again.
He had changed a lot but I still remember
these kind, light brown eyes and the way his
jaw clenched told me that he remembered me
too. Worse, he remembered everything I did to
him.

Religion / The Nicene Creed by Dluxdstory: 5:18pm On Mar 20, 2020
The Nicene Creed ( Greek: Σύμβολον τῆς
Νικαίας or, τῆς πίστεως, Latin: Symbolum
Nicaenum) is a statement of belief widely used
in Christian liturgy . It is called Nicene /ˈnaɪsiːn/
because it was originally adopted in the city of
Nicaea (present day İznik , Turkey) by the First
Council of Nicaea in 325. [1] In 381, it was
amended at the First Council of Constantinople ,
and the amended form is referred to as the
Nicene or the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed .
It defines Nicene Christianity .
The Oriental Orthodox and Assyrian churches use
this profession of faith with the verbs in the
original plural ("we believe"wink, but the Eastern
Orthodox and Catholic churches convert those
verbs to the singular ("I believe"wink. The Anglican
and many Protestant denominations generally
use the singular form, sometimes the plural.
The Apostles' Creed is also used in the Latin
West, but not in the Eastern liturgies . [2][3][4] On
Sundays and solemnities, one of these two
creeds is recited in the Roman Rite Mass after
the homily. The Nicene Creed is also part of the
profession of faith required of those undertaking
important functions within the Catholic
Church. [5][6]
In the Byzantine Rite , the Nicene Creed is sung
or recited at the Divine Liturgy , immediately
preceding the Anaphora (Eucharistic Prayer) , and
is also recited daily at compline .

ORIGIN

The original Nicene Creed was first adopted on
19 June 325 at the First Council of Nicaea. [12]
and a copyrighted translation is still found free
on the internet in the preview of a Creeds book
by the noted scholar Leith on pages 30-31. [13]
At that time, the text ended with the words "We
believe in the Holy Spirit", after which various
anathemas against Arian propositions were
added. [14]
F. J. A. Hort and Adolf von Harnack argued that
the Nicene creed was the local creed of
Caesarea [15] ( an important center of Early
Christianity ) recited in the council by Eusebius of
Caesarea . Their case relied largely on a very
specific interpretation of Eusebius' own account
of the Council's proceedings. [16] More recent
scholarship has not been convinced by their
arguments. [17] The large number of secondary
divergences from the text of the creed quoted by
Eusebius make it unlikely that it was used as a
starting point by those who drafted the conciliar
creed. [18] Their initial text was probably a local
creed from a Syro–Palestinian source into which
they awkwardly inserted phrases to define the
Nicene theology. [19] The Eusebian Creed may
thus have been either a second or one of many
nominations for the Nicene Creed.
The 1911 Catholic Encyclopedia says that, soon
after the Council of Nicaea, new formulae of faith
were composed, most of them variations of the
Nicene Symbol, to meet new phases of Arianism,
of which there were at least four before the
Council of Sardica (341), at which a new form
was presented and inserted in its acts, although
the council did not accept it. [20]
Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed
What is known as the "Niceno-Constantinopolitan
Creed" or the "Nicene–Constantinopolitan
Creed" [21] received this name because of a
belief that it was adopted at the Second
Ecumenical Council held in Constantinople in
381 as a modification of the original Nicene
Creed of 325. In that light, it also came to be
very commonly known simply as the "Nicene
Creed". It is the only authoritative ecumenical
statement of the Christian faith accepted by the
Catholic Church , the Eastern Orthodox Church ,
Oriental Orthodoxy , the Church of the East , much
of Protestantism including the Anglican
communion . [22][23] (The Apostles' and
Athanasian creeds are not as widely
accepted.) [24]
It differs in a number of respects, both by
addition and omission, from the creed adopted
at the First Council of Nicaea. The most notable
difference is the additional section "And [we
believe] in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver-of-
Life, who proceedeth from the Father, who with
the Father and the Son together is worshipped
and glorified, who spake by the prophets. And
[we believe] in one, holy, Catholic and Apostolic
Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the
remission of sins, [and] we look for the
resurrection of the dead and the life of the world
to come. Amen." [25]
Since the end of the 19th century, [26] scholars
have questioned the traditional explanation of the
origin of this creed, which has been passed
down in the name of the council, whose official
acts have been lost over time. A local council of
Constantinople in 382 and the third ecumenical
council (Ephesus, 431) made no mention of
it, [27] with the latter affirming the 325 creed of
Nicaea as a valid statement of the faith and
using it to denounce Nestorianism . Though
some scholarship claims that hints of the later
creed's existence are discernible in some
writings, [28] no extant document gives its text
or makes explicit mention of it earlier than the
fourth ecumenical council at Chalcedon in
451. [26][27][29] Many of the bishops of the 451
council themselves had never heard of it and
initially greeted it skeptically, but it was then
produced from the episcopal archives of
Constantinople, and the council accepted it "not
as supplying any omission but as an authentic
interpretation of the faith of Nicaea". [27] In spite
of the questions raised, it is considered most
likely that this creed was in fact adopted at the
381 second ecumenical council. [24]
On the basis of evidence both internal and
external to the text, it has been argued that this
creed originated not as an editing of the original
Creed proposed at Nicaea in 325, but as an
independent creed (probably an older baptismal
creed) modified to make it more like the Nicene
Creed. [30] Some scholars have argued that the
creed may have been presented at Chalcedon as
"a precedent for drawing up new creeds and
definitions to supplement the Creed of Nicaea,
as a way of getting round the ban on new creeds
in Canon 7 of Ephesus". [29] It is generally
agreed that the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed
is not simply an expansion of the Creed of
Nicaea, and was probably based on another
traditional creed independent of the one from
Nicaea. [24][26]
The third Ecumenical Council ( Council of
Ephesus of 431) reaffirmed the original 325
version [31] of the Nicene Creed and declared
that "it is unlawful for any man to bring forward,
or to write, or to compose a different (ἑτέραν)
faith as a rival to that established by the holy
Fathers assembled with the Holy Ghost in
Nicaea" (i.e., the 325 creed). The word ἑτέραν
is more accurately translated as used by the
Council to mean "different", "contradictory", rather
than "another". [32][32] This statement has been
interpreted as a prohibition against changing this
creed or composing others, but not all accept
this interpretation. [32] This question is
connected with the controversy whether a creed
proclaimed by an Ecumenical Council is
definitive in excluding not only excisions from its
text but also additions to it.
In one respect, the Eastern Orthodox Church 's
received text [33] of the Niceno-
Constantinopolitan Creed differs from the earliest
text, which is included in the acts of the Council
of Chalcedon of 451: The Eastern Orthodox
Church uses the singular forms of verbs such as
"I believe", in place of the plural form ("we
believe"wink used by the council. Byzantine Rite
Eastern Catholic Churches use exactly the same
form of the Creed, since the Catholic Church
teaches that it is wrong to add "and the Son" to
the Greek verb "ἐκπορευόμενον", though correct
to add it to the Latin "qui procedit", which does
not have precisely the same meaning. [34] The
form generally used in Western churches does
add "and the Son" and also the phrase "God from
God", which is found in the original 325
Creed.

*SYNOPSIS*

Mia Anderson hated Theo Sanders.
It started right on the first day of college,
where these two carelessly drove their cars
into each other's. With neither of them ready to
accept their mistake, and being thoroughly
convinced that the other person is just an
asshole, it was hate at first sight.
With freakishly similar personalities and faults,
the hatred between Mia and Theo only seemed
to grow with the years. There was hardly a day
when the two of them did not fight physically,
or at least, engage in a verbal spat. They were
competitive in every field, whether it was being
the smartest or the most popular.
But in all practicality, it is hard to hate the
person you would seriously considers having
sex with. Mia and Theo harbor sexual longing
for each other, and their frustration of not
getting each other only fuels their hatred. Sure,
they would never accept it, but anyone who
knew them could see how much they wanted
to get into each other's pants. The way Mia
found excuses to go to the gym when Theo
was working out, or the way Theo attended
parties only so he could see Mia dancing in
short dresses are all signs of the sexual
tension between them.
