Minimum wage: Kwara approves composition of negotiation c’ttee

Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara has ordered the immediate composition of the state Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee.

Mrs Susan Modupe, the Kwara Head of Service (HoS), said in a statement on Tuesday in Ilorin that the governor gave the directive at the State Executive Council meeting.

Modupe said in the statement signed by her Press Secretary, Murtala Atoyebi, that the governor had instructed her to inaugurate the committee and begin work.

The statement said the Head of Service was to outline the criteria to guide the committee members on areas of concentration for an acceptable and affordable wage for the workers.

The Federal Government had reached an agreement with labour on the consequential increase on its workers’ salaries effective from Oct. 18. The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council consequently directed labour leaders in states to negotiate with their respective state governments.

Unnao rape case: Former BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Sengar found guilty - 1 hour ago

Kuldeep Sengar, a former lawmaker from India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Uttar Pradesh has been convicted of rape in one of the year's most high-profile cases.

Kuldeep Sengar, 51, was tried under child protection laws as the survivor was 17 when she was assaulted in 2017.

The case first came to national attention last year when the woman tried to set herself on fire, alleging police inaction.

She was seriously injured in a suspicious car crash in July.

While she survived, both her aunts, who had been travelling with her, died and her lawyer was seriously wounded.

Sengar is due to be sentenced on Tuesday and could be imprisoned for life.

The woman, who can't be named under Indian laws, alleges that she had approached Sengar for a job in June 2017 - and she was kidnapped and raped for more than a week by him and others.

She said she registered a police complaint, but they initially did not name him as one of the accused. The police did register a case against him months later, but the woman alleges that they did not proceed with the investigation.

The BJP came in for sharp criticism over the fact that Sengar had remained in the party despite the serious allegations against him - he was expelled only in August this year.

This was after the crash which happened in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, where Sengar was a lawmaker from Unnao district.

The woman's mother accused Sengar of orchestrating the accident - a charge he denied. The federal police are still investigating these allegations.

The family also accused Sengar's brother, Atul Sengar, of assaulting the woman's father in April 2018. The police charged five men for the attack but they also arrested her father on the charge of illegally possessing firearms. He died later in prison.

Days later, she attempted to set herself on fire outside the home of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleging that she had been repeatedly thwarted in her pursuit of justice.

India's federal investigation agency took over the case and arrested Atul Sengar and 10 others on charges of murder. The case is still ongoing. Atul Sengar has not responded to the charges.

US special envoy Stephen Biegun has urged North Korea to come to the negotiating table, saying: "We are here, let's get this done."

His comments in Seoul come days after North Korea conducted missile tests at a satellite launch site.

North Korea has set an end-of-year deadline for the US to come up with a new denuclearization deal that would involve significant sanctions relief.

It said the US could expect a "Christmas gift" if it did not comply.

Mr Biegun - the US special representative for North Korea - called Pyongyang's statements "hostile, negative and so unnecessary", adding that the US had a "goal... not a deadline".

He called for Pyongyang to enter talks with the US, saying to his North Korean counterparts: "It is time for us to do our jobs. Let's get this done. We are here and you know how to reach us."

US President Donald Trump has said he will not lift sanctions until North Korea fully abandons its nuclear programme.

North Korea said if the US did not make an acceptable offer, it would find a "new way".

What tests did North Korea carry out?
Pyongyang appears to have shut the door on further US talks, focusing instead on testing missiles.

On 8 December, it said it carried out a "very important test". It held a second test less than a week later on 14 December.

Both tests were said to be carried out at the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground - a site that North Korea had promised to dismantle.

It's not clear exactly what was being tested - but Ankit Panda, North Korea expert at the Federation of American Scientists, told the BBC it could be a ground test for a ballistic missile engine.

The US and North Korea have reached a nuclear impasse.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his US counterpart Mr Trump held historic talks in Singapore in June 2018 and in Vietnam earlier this year aimed at denuclearisation.

February 23, 2019. The day Kwarans matched their words with actions on the ballot. The day Kwarans surprises all book makers and doubting thomases who had earlier believed that Kwara will continue to remain in the griphold of Bukola Saraki till he (Bukky) will hand over to his son; just like he took the control of the state from his own father in 2003.

The unity of purpose, mind and focus with strong determination did not only liberated us from the hands of the Parasite – Bukky who had sucked the state dry, but also save Nigeria from the agony of Bukola Saraki once again in the hallow chamber of Senate.

My fellow Kwarans, while we are celebrating our victory at the recently concluded President and National Assembly elections, we must also remember that the last batch of the parasite/sarakite needs to be flush out come March 09, 2019. Insha Allahu.

We urge those who were unable to participate in the last Saturday election to come out and join us all in voting massively for the progressive team which will be led by Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq as the Governor and all the various State House of Assembly members. The house in question was not built by Saraki but was given to him by the state as his entitlement after serving the two term as Governor of the state. The only irony here is that, Bukola was said to have returned the house to the state govt under the leadership of Abdulfatah Ahmed (the incumbent Governor) that he prefer to collect cash instead of house and he was said to have been given N350million cash, only for Gov, Abdulfatah Ahmed to give the house to Saraki as gift from the state, after collecting the N350million cash.
