Celebrities / Missing N135mn, $50,000: The Documents PMAN President Is Trying To Hide... by doggone: 12:30am On Dec 09, 2023
Missing N135mn, $50,000: The documents PMAN president is trying to hide from the public.

A three page document that exchanged hands via emails between two executive members of PMAN (Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria) on the one hand, and the Account Officer of the controversial account allegedly opened with a third generation bank by the embattled national president of PMAN, Mr Pretty Okafor without approval, on the other hand, has been exclusively made available to #GhostNote242 on Instagram.

Names of the officer and the bank are withheld for now. A reliable source said there are plans to privately resolve the matter, while some are insisting on clearing their names before another team of executive members are sworn-in in a credible election.

The last election that returned Okafor as president could be nullified for it's hasty conduct, ahead of the February 2024 instructed by a court in Ibadan, Oyo State, in 2020.

The documents clearly show conversations among the three individuals in the thick of the allegations of fund misappropriation by the executive members in question.

Information has it that some lawyers (from a neutral firm), after having gone through the constitution of PMAN, and asked for interpretation on the culpability of the duo in the alleged financial misappropriation, affirmed in their report that the PMAN president breached all the three rules as stipulated in the book, and risked being prosecuted not only by the EFCC, but by the Court, for his gross mismanagement of the association's funds.

The president is running helter skelter to keep the information from the general public because he is particularly worried that his image might be damaged. Others from his region are said to be jostling to take over from him to cover his misdeeds, as well as erase the impression that his kind are fraudulent administrators, but good traders.

Shocking, however, is the stand of Boniface Itodo, who has debunked all the allegations, and refutted the clarifications made by the lawyers, insisting that no fraud has been committed by the president and the secretary general of PMAN.

Politics / Drama As Furious Lawyers, Litigants, Protest Against Judge For Absenting... by doggone: 4:11pm On Nov 30, 2023
Drama as furious lawyers, litigants, protest against judge for absenting self from court

Some lawyers in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the Chief Magistrate Court in the Family Magisterial District, expressed their disgust with a female judge (names withheld), for leaving them unattended to in her court for four hours on Monday

Handling other matters in another court, but on the same premises, she left message for the lawyers to excuse her absence, and promised to be with them by 11:30 AM.

After having waited for longer than necessary, a mild protest took place in her court, forcing the court officials to call her on the phone. She called the disgruntled lawyers and litigants bluff and instructed all the lawyers to pick another date.

Shocked by her audacity, the lawyers raised hell and proceeded to report her to the deputy chief registrar (DCR) in the Registrar's office. The registrar begged the aggrieved lawyers and litigants to be calm and promised to take care of her high handedness, even as she called the woman on the phone to get prepared to answer some questions.

Some litigants blamed Oyo State politicians for always appointing undeserving judges on political sentiments, eroding the good record of the state among the comity of legal practitioners.

Celebrities / Exclusive: PMAN House Of Drama; Pretty Okafor, Others Recent Election Hangs... by doggone: 11:17pm On Nov 27, 2023
PMAN House of Drama; Pretty Okafor, Others Recent Election Hangs In The Balance

Going by a court judgment delivered in Ibadan, Oyo State, on February 6, 2020, and the recent petition against the national president of PMAN (Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria), Pretty Okafor, and the general secretary of the association, Boniface Itodo, over alleged misappropriation of N135mn and $50,000, the election that returned the two embattled executive members and several others, including Ruggedman, real names Michael Stephen, Sunny Nneji and all the other winners in the controversial election, may be a sham and the victorious musicians may be living on borrowed times as they may be unceremoniously kicked out of the Lekki secretariat of the music association anytime from now.

Recall that #GhostNote242 on Instagram broke the news of the petition made by former treasurer of the association, Asha Fapohunda, to the zonal chairman of the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) in Ibadan two weeks ago.

The National Industrial Court judgment, delivered by Justice Opeloye Ogunbowale, empowered Pretty Okafor, Sunny Nneji, Zaaky Azay, Asha Fapohunda, Boniface Itodo, Innocent Idibia, M.I. Abaga, Gabriel Amayin, Arthor Pepple, Michael Stephen and Tunde Omitogun; all members of the NWC (National Working Committee) three years ago, “to steer, pilot, direct, run and lead PMAN at the national level, and to have supervisory power on all the state chapters for four years, after which a credible election shall be conducted on the expiration of the said four years” of the association. However, on October 26, 2023, it was alleged that Okafor conducted an election by presenting handpicked delegates from each state to conduct the infamous election that returned him to power for another four years, in utter disregard to the Court’s judgment that an election be held after four years, which will be 2024, and not 2023.

In his petition to the EFCC, Asha pleaded to the Commission to investigate the mismanagement of N135,000,000 MN and $50,000 by both the national president and general secretary of the association. The petition, dated 7th November 2023, alleged that the president and the secretary opened a separate account with a third generation bank where the money was paid into, instead of the account known to all the executive members of PMAN without notifying the association.
Further in the petition, Fapohunda alleged that the NWC appointed Olusco Homes, FCT, as property manager of what remains of the land, with stern instructions to the agent to “always remit money from the property to PMAN’s bank account, but Okafor and Itodo gave a contrary instruction to the property manager that the proceeds be paid into another account that was opened with the same bank without NWC’s knowledge.” The petition revealed that many of such underhand dealings had been going on for four years, and Okafor allegedly thwarted all efforts to audit the income and expenditure of the association.

“In preparation to holding that election next year, I demanded for the record books so we can have something to hand over to the next executive members. To my shock, Pretty and Itodo refused to allow me to audit the account. That was the beginning of my troubles with the president. In my private investigations, I discovered that a lot of fund misappropriation had taken place. A third generation bank was used to perpetrate the fraud. As we speak, N135mn and $50,000 is missing. It is because he wants to cover his track that he held the election that returned him on October 24, 2023

“Ignore the media report that he had no intention of re-contesting, but his friends pressured him to contest. Who are those friends? They are the delegates he handpicked without the knowledge of other NWC members. I want to exit PMAN on a clean note. Nobody fought to have Pretty return. It’s all bullshit. And guess what? I am not the only one who wants to leave with his head held up high. There are many others who want this. Nobody wants to be dragged into controversial issues when another regime takes over,” said Asha.

Mr Okafor returned as PMAN president after 8 years in office, which is against the two terms of four years allowed by the constitution of the association. “He is on a third term, even though what we had couldn’t be said to be an election because it was not publicized, and neither constitutional”, said another unhappy executive member of PMAN.

Celebrities / Missing N135mn, $50,000: PMAN Treasurer Wants EFCC To Probe President, Gen-sec by doggone: 1:37am On Nov 19, 2023
The national treasurer of PMAN (Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria), Asha Fapohunda, known as Asha Gangali, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the alleged mismanagement of N135,000,000m, and $50,000 by both the national president and general secretary of the association, Mr Pretty Okafor and Mr Boniface Itodo.

In a petition available to #GhostNote242 on Instagram, addressed to the zonal chairman of the Commission, the Ibadan Zonal Command at Iyaganku GRA, Oyo State, and dated 7th November from Olujimi & Akeredolu Law Firm, Mr Fapohunda alleged that the president and the secretary opened a separate account with a third generation bank where the money was paid into, instead of the account known to all the executive members of PMAN without notifying the association.

Money paid into this private account were averred to be proceeds from Abuja land allocated to the association by former military ruler, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. For many years, there have been allegations of massive selling of the huge land by many of the past presidents of the association. Few years ago, an executive member of the association publicly blamed another past president for selling portions of the land to a prominent church in Abuja without remitting the proceeds to the coffers of PMAN.

Further in the petition, Fapohunda alleged that the National Working Committee (NWC) of PMAN appointed Olusco Homes, FCT, as property manager of what remains of the land, with stern instructions to the agent to “always remit money from the property to PMAN’s bank account, but Okafor and Itodo gave a contrary instruction to the property manager that the proceeds be paid into another account that was opened with the same bank without NWC’s knowledge.” This, it was revealed in the petition, to have been going on for four years, and Okafor has allegedly thwarted all efforts to audit the income and expenditure of the association.
Many other executive members, who want to exit on clean notes so that they won’t be called upon in future to face any panel, have been silently doing everything to get the president and the secretary to fix the matter, but because a majority of them are not only friends to Okafor, but also from a particular region, they want to exit quietly without a noise.

Mr Okafor recently returned as PMAN president after 8 years in office, which is against the two terms of four years allowed by the constitution of the association. “He is on a third term, even though what we had couldn’t be said to be an election because it was not publicized, and neither constitutional”, said another unhappy executive member of PMAN who spoke to #GhostNote242 on Instagram under anonymity.

Celebrities / Tade Makinde To Publish Another Biography by doggone: 2:01pm On Oct 31, 2022
Author of the book, "Fela Anikulapo Kuti: Bruised. Battered. Beloved", Mr Tade Makinde (II), is set to release another book titled "Olu Makinde: Master of His Game" in December.

A source in the entertainment industry told Nairaland that the book is the biography of the late Olu Makinde, a celebrity journalist, who passed on February 20, 2015.

Makinde (I) organized the first musical competition in Nigeria in 1977. The competition was won by Sunny Ade.
What many music lovers and fans of the winner and the other participants did not know, however, is that both Sunny Ade and Olu Makinde immediately suffered persecutions from various quarters. One of the two victims almost lost his life, while the other almost quit his job.

The book also reveals the frosty relationship between the journalist and another popular musician whom Olu Makinde helped to resurrect his dead career, among his other contributions to Nigeria's entertainment industry.

The source described the book as an "extensive work of research that will shed light on a lot of unanswered questions as regards the travails and triumphs of the former editor of "The Entertainer", published by the defunct Sketch Newspapers of Nigeria.

The National Assembly has passed the Bill for an Act to Repeal the Copyright Act, Cap C28 LFN, 2004 and Enact a New Copyright Act 2022.

This was sequel to the passage of the Bill by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, 27th July 2022, in concurrence with the Senate which had earlier on Wednesday, 6th April 2022, passed it.

The passage of the Bill by the Green Chamber followed a clause-by-clause consideration by the Committee of the Whole, consequent upon which the House had the third reading and passed it.

The new Bill provides for the effective regulation, protection and administration of copyright in the digital environment in line with global best practices.

The four cardinal objectives of the Bill, as outlined in clause 1, include, to:

(a) strengthen the copyright regime in Nigeria to enhance the competitiveness of its creative industries in a digital and knowledge-based global economy;

(b) effectively protect the rights of authors to ensure just rewards and recognition for their intellectual efforts while also providing appropriate limitations and exceptions to guarantee access to creative works; encourage cultural interchange and advance public welfare;

(c) facilitate Nigeria’s compliance with obligations arising from relevant international copyright treaties; and

(d) enhance the capacity of the Nigerian Copyright Commission for effective administration and enforcement of the provisions of the Copyright Act.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Commission, Dr. John O. Asein, has described the emergence of the New Copyright Bill as a catalyst for revamping Nigeria’s creative economy. He noted that the passage of the Bill was a watershed in the development of copyright law in Nigeria, describing it as the first successful legislative intervention in the field of intellectual property under a democratic regime.

Dr. Asein expressed appreciation to the leadership of the National Assembly and the distinguished legislators for the commitment demonstrated throughout the legislative process to complement the efforts of Government to overhaul the copyright system. He also thanked stakeholders in the copyright industries for their resilience and support for the reform process.

Celebrities / Land Dispute: ADRON Homes Stopped From Working On 594,757 Hectares Of Land by doggone: 4:12pm On Jul 05, 2022
Land dispute: ADRON Homes stopped from working on 594,757 hectares of land in Ibadan land

Honourable Justice O.A. Adetujoye of the Ibadan High Court, on June 14, 2022, ordered an interlocutory injunction restraining Mrs. Oje Taibatu, Adron Homes & Properties (defendants in the case) and their agents, from further trespassing, entering or even erecting structures on a disputed piece of land at Olawoyin Orogun, Agangan Olawoyin Oleyo in Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan, pending the determination of a substantive suit.

The case, No I/698/2020, had many families join forces to seek legal redress at the court against the two defendants over the land in dispute.

The defendants' lawyer, Olugbenga Makinde, had asked the court to grant an interlocutory order to stop the property company from carrying out further constructions on the land pending the hearing of the substantive suit.

Kehinde Olawumi, who represented Adron Homes and Bolarinwa Lawal, who represented Mrs Taibatu, both opposed the application. The latter submitted that such an injunction could only be granted upon whether the applicants have legally protected interest, or whether there are triable issues from the facts of the case, or whether balance of convenience tilts in favour of the applicants, and finally submitted that the applicants did not provide sufficient material facts to warrant the granting of the application. He thereby prayed for outright dismissal of the application.
In the same vein, the former also submitted that interlocutory injunction does not exist as tool to be used by a party to deprive another party from enjoying peaceful possession of a property. In his conclusion, Olawumi urged the court to hold that the injunction sought by the claimants was malafide, frivolous and calculated to mislead the court.

In her examination of the arguments made by the lawyers, Justice Adetujoye said an application for interlocutory injunction seeks a discretionary remedy as long as such discretions are exercised judiciously.

"The essence of an interlocutory injunction is the preservation of the status quo ante bellum. The order is meant to forestall irreparable injury to the applicants' legal right.
"The issue for determination in this application is whether the applicants have satisfied the conditions to warrant the exercise of the discretion of this court in their favour.
"On the whole, I am satisfied that the applicants have fulfilled the requirements to enable this court exercise it's judicial discretion. I therefore make an order of interlocutory injunction restraining Adron Homes & Properties and Mrs Taibatu from further trespassing entering or even erecting structures on the piece of land at Olawoyin Oleyo area in Odo-Ona Elewe pending the determination of a substantive suit," she said.

Nigeria's consul general commits diplomatic blunder. Risks recall

As it took the FBI (Federal Bureau of investigation) to expose the atrocities of Nigeria's super cop, Assistant Commissioner of Police and head of the Special Unit of the Inspector General of Police, Abba Kyari, hence his fall from grace to grass, it appears that the United States government may be the country that will sanction the Nigeria consul general in Atlanta since the Nigeria government has not bothered to caution Ambassador Amina Smaila, especially following several allegations of high handedness and corruption against her in the United States.

In the past eight months, allegations of imposing fraudulently charges on Nigerians who want to apply for Nigerian passports rocked the consulate, even as she was alleged to have bought a mansion in Atlanta without the FGs approval. Also late last year, she was alleged to have provided diplomatic cover for a Senegalese who pulled a gun on a Nigerian doctor inside the consulate while trying to apply for Nigerian passports for himself and his family. Now, Smaila was caught on video defacing American dollars during a comedy show that featured Elenu on February 11, 2022.

In the diplomatic circle, what the consul general has done is capable of incurring sanctions against her and Nigeria as it is believed to be an act of disrespect. She was caught on camera matching on American dollars that had dropped off the money that comedian, Elenu's friends had pastel on his forehead.

A retired diplomat who doesn't want to be drawn into the matter exclusively told this reporter that "It is a diplomatic blunder that can cause her recall. It's a big deal," he said.

Urging the FG to do something about the incessant embarrassment that Smaila has brought upon Nigeria, "it is obvious that she knows next-to-nothing about the art of diplomacy and should be held responsible for her failures as this tells on Nigeria.

"In Nigeria, defacing (disrespecting the national currency) is acceptable, but not here, and not in public. It's like walking when the national anthem is on, or urinating on a country's flag. An ordinary person can do that, but not a diplomat.

"We keep saying we are not respected abroad but also keep putting amateurs in offices that should be run by professionals. Why should we complain when we present our worst and we embarrass ourselves out there? Even if it is true that the consul general is the daughter of one of president Buhari's good friends, should Nigeria continue to suffer for her unpardonable errors? In the past one year, she is the only diplomat that has been mentioned in incidents that are very embarrassing", he said.

On February 11, in a special lovers edition of Gyration & Chill with Elenu & Friends in Georgia, the consul general was caught on camera "defacing American dollars" to the shock of many diplomats who were invited to the show.

Celebrities / Breaking News: Book On Fela Anikulapo Kuti Out On Kindle by doggone: 9:23am On Jan 23, 2022
A 304-page book on Fela Anikulapo Kuti has been released online. Release date was January 1, 2022, but went live from January 15, 2022. Cover price is $8:99.

A Chicago-based firm, Brightech Consultant in Illinois uploaded the book on Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). For now, the book is exclusive only to buyers who have Kindle App on their devices, or those who will download the app if they want to purchase the book. For now also, hard copies of the book won't be available until May this year.

The book, entitled "Fela Anikulapo Kuti: Bruised. Battered. Beloved", was said to have taken the author six years of research and interviews with 25 individuals who knew the African music icon. Fela died on August 2, 1997.

An official of Brightech Consultant who does not want to be mentioned said that the company had been in touch with Mr Tade Makinde, a former Entertainment Journalist with The Nigerian Tribune and the author of the book, and had been kept informed of progress on the book for long. The book was first published online in 2018, but due to some technical hitches, had not been available for purchase.

"Getting the online copy of the book out for now was what we mostly discussed with the author. In this age where online publishing is fast becoming an easy way out for writers who are hardly considered for help by most publishing companies, we are glad the author agreed to give prospective readers the opportunity to have an idea of who Fela was.

"We hope this e-version of the book will interest those who love Fela and who want to know more about him apart from his brand of music, Afrobeat. But they must download the Kindle App first if they want to buy the book because there won't be paper back for now", he said.

Among contributors to the book were Lemi Ghariokwu, Baba Ani, Eludoyin Babalola, Femi Esho, Femi Falana, Dede Mabiaku among others.

Mr Makinde is a staff of Ariya TV (sister company of AMNI Corporation in New York).

Police department set to investigate Nigerian diplomat after a Senegalese pulled a gun on a doctor in Atlanta

The Sandy Spring Police Department in Atlanta is set to investigate allegation of criminal action against Mr Mohammed, a Senegalese staff (driver) of the Atlanta Consulate, for pulling a gun on a Nigerian and his family members who came to the Atlanta Consulate for passport biometrics.

The petitioner, Dr Tosin Ayodeji Joshua, an Obstetrician/Gynecologist, and his family were, on June 3rd, 2021, within the premises of the Nigeria Consulate Atlanta for data capturing when the incident happened.

Investigation has it that things would not have got this far if Ambassador Amina Smaila had taken necessary action on the matter. Rather, the consul general (CG) used her office to provide protection for the Senegalese.

Dr.Joshua and his family are now awaiting action from the police department pending further investigation in the matter and the eventual arrest of Mohammed.

Concerned Nigerians also alleged that Ambassador Amina Smaila and one Mr. Moses Damisa coerced a staff of the Consulate, Mr. Pius Uhumuobhi, to read a prepared self indicting speech on video against his will. For refusing to read the speech prepared by Amina, and which was to be videotaped inside the Consul General’s office, the infuriated CG chose to malign Pius in her message to a popular Nigerian blog. Mr. Pius reported the incident to another senior officer, Mr Shehu, at the Consulate, who expressed his displeasure at undiplomatic action of Amina Smaila.

"Forceful detention and videotaping of any individual against their wish is a criminal offence in the United States. Mr. Pius Uhumuobhi is a Nigerian American," he protested.

Nigerians in Atlanta have never stopped complaining about the high-handed attitude of the CG as allegations of ineptitude have been levelled against her in the recent past. It is also alleged that to reward Mr. Mohammed for "spying" on her staff, Ambassador Amina Smaila has hired the wife of Mr. Mohammed as a domestic staff at her unauthorized residence on Tuxedo Road, Atlanta, while she’s also scheming on how to get Mr. Mohammed returned as a driver at the Consulate. Mr. Mohammed had boasted to the people in his Senegalese community Whatsapp group that he is about to embarrass the Nigerian community and the Consulate Atlanta for “the shit that they are”.

Ambassador Amina Smaila is also alleged to have hired an intern, Mr. Kingsley Okogwu, a family friend of her boyfriend Mr. Damisa Moses. The intern has now been placed above foreign affairs staff of the Consulate and now attends highly sensitive official meetings attended by the Consul General taking notes for her, at the expense of dedicated foreign affairs ministry staff at the Consulate,

Also among the numerous allegations Nigerians have levelled against the CG is that the refusal of Mrs. Briggs and Margaret Mangai to continue to fund the unauthorized mansion that Consul General Amina Smaila is currently renting (while abandoning the existing official Residence on Roswell Road), that led to the CG trying to tarnish the image of these officers.
"We request a full audit of the finance of the Nigeria Consulate Atlanta since the resumption of Consul General Ms. Amina Smaila in Atlanta, and a proper accounting of the use of the $130 money order money collected from passport biometric applicants," a Nigerian told this reporter.

The most damning of the allegations against her is that Ms. Amina Smaila currently resides in the unauthorized Consul General residence with Moses Damisa, racking up a whooping monthly bill of $20,000 on rent, utility bills and security inclusive at the expense of Nigerians against the directives of the members of the House of Representatives Committee on foreign affairs that visited the Consulate September 2021

"It is high time someone told us who is her Godfather in the Presidency that “forced” her posting to Atlanta Consulate," another source said.

Recently, the CG was in the eye of the storm for purchasing a mansion in an exclusive area in Atlanta despite the veto of some members of the House of Representatives. Read the story here: https://www.nairaland.com/6834471/breaking-exclusive-news-nigerian-diplomat

Nigerian diplomat acquire $3.2mn apartment for government without legislative knowledge

+ Late Kenny Rogers family is one of her celebrity neighbors

+ Reps kick. Says it's a waste of public fund.

+ Angry Nigerians in America want her recalled, prosecuted

Nigerians in Atlanta, Georgia, have called for investigation into the $3.2mn apartment allegedly purchased by Dr Amina Smaila for the Federal Government when the one currently housing the Consul General is still in use and cheaper.

The five bedroom, seven baths and sitting on 8200 square feet apartment is on the most expensive street in Georgia. Kenny Rogers is one of the many celebrities that live on 3460 Tuxedo road, NW.

Guests invited to the house warming party in September were stunned when they initially were told by the Consul General that the government had paid for the apartment without discussing the purchase with members of the legislative arm. Some House of Representative members at the party were particularly miffed on hearing what it cost Nigerian government to buy the house.

"When the House of Representative members heard it, they flared up and promised to probe the clandestine purchase when they get back to Nigeria. That was when Dr Smaila changed her story and said the government was only paying a rent of $14,973 each month on the apartment," said a source in Atlanta.

Speaking further, the source said there is already a disharmony among Nigerian diplomats in the city as scandal after scandal has rocked the Consul General. She was fingered in the fraudulent activities around the provision of passport for Nigerians.

"Last year, Nigerians in Atlanta paid through their noses to acquire a passport here. What should cost us $130 coat us between $600 and $900. We complained about this fraud but the president did not do anything. The rot is still going on. Now, this.

"The old residence of the Consul General is still in good condition and cheaper. It was bought for $1.03mn in 2005 or so and the consulate is just 10 minutes drive from the Consul General's residence to the office. This new apartment however is a 25 minutes drive to the consulate. Does that make sense if truly Nigeria is not economically bouyant?

"Buhari allows rots like this to go on here because a majority of the consulates are run by children of his cabinet members or friends. This Consul General is not only related to a high ranking officer in Buhari's cabinet, but she was moved above three other more qualified diplomats.

"For us as Nigerians here, this rot is one too many. Petitions have been written against the woman and we will not stop until something is done about the hushed purchase. Nigeria does not need this. No country has tow residences for their Consul General in any city in the United States. This is fraudulent. What she or her godfather in Nigeria are planning is to buy the apartment before the end of Buhari's tenure for a ridiculous amount while Nigeria would have actually paid for the house for her.

"Nigerians should rise up against this fraud. We don't need the apartment. Dr Smaila should be recalled and prosecuted", he said.

You want to reply like a knowledgeable person in cryptocurrency but house
Cryptocurrency has lots of class but I'll group them into 3
Crypto
Stable coins
NFTs

eNaira is a stable coin, it is not mined by PoW or PoS mechanism. It is not created by staking your cash either. Similar to Tether, it is regulated by an authority and does not need to do airdrop or CeFi (Centralized Finance) mining & staking to get a users or promote.

Update your self before someone else lash at you.

Partly wrong,

First of all, that enaira is stable doesn't make it a stable coin.
Secondly, enaira is a digital currency like PM (perfect money).
So how is it similar to Tether?

You too, update your self before someone else lash at you too

Celebrities / Pman Kicks Against Secret Repeal And Re-enactment Of The Copyright Act by doggone: 9:18pm On Jul 05, 2021
The Performing Musicians’ Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has reacted to the news of the impending repeal and re-enactment of the Copyright Act (Cap. C.28 Law of the Federation of Nigeria) 2004.

PMAN’s reaction was based on the apparent speed and secrecy with which the Bill to repeal the Act and re-enact a new one was shrouded.

About two weeks ago, the media (both print and electronic) were agog with the news that the Bill to repeal and re-enact the Copyright Act 2004 2021 has passed second reading at the floor of the Senate.

PMAN hearing and reading this news, contacted notable groups and associations in the creative industry, particularly, the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) and the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN), all which denied any knowledge of the Bill and its contents. We then became very apprehensive that some sinister motives are at play to halt and reverse the progress already made in the field of copyright administration and enforcement.

PMAN immediately wrote a formal letter to the Senate Leadership, specifically, the Senate President, the joint Chairmen of Senate Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters and Trade and Investments, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, Senate Chief Whip among others, to express PMAN’s concern over a Bill that touches upon the livelihood and constitutional rights of Nigerian Musicians without their knowledge or input. PMAN’s simple request was that it should be availed of a copy of the Bill to at least know what it contains and if necessary, make input.

PMAN did not stop there; we wrote a letter to the sponsor of the Bill, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, expressing the same concern and requesting the Distinguished Senator to recall the Bill for stakeholders’ consideration. We received a very nice and swift reply from Senator Abiru who advised us to access the Bill from a link which he gave as www.nass.gv.ng. From our attempts, we discovered that the link does not exist and we used our initiative to access the National Assembly website and found that the said Bill was not among the posted Bills pending consideration before the National Assembly (both the Senate and the House of Representatives). We then rightly assumed that we were deliberately sent on a wild goose chase by the Distinguished Senator and came to the incontrovertible conclusion that certain forces are pushing the Bill secretly while trying to present the image that the process is open.

PMAN rejects this process in its entirety, noting that the Sponsor of the Bill, Senator Abiru, is not an author, painter, artist or a musician. As far as we know, we are not able to trace any interest to him that could be classified as copyright-related that would make him so interested in pushing a Bill that would affect the lives and constitutional rights of millions of Nigerian stakeholders without their knowledge and input.

We have contacted our allies in other organisations and associations and they expressed the same worries. Some have actually written to the Senate Leadership expressing their concerns.

Our concern is more fuelled by a recent Public Hearing held on 16th and 17th June 2021 by the House of Representatives’ Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values on the Bill to Repeal the National Film and Video Censor’s Board Act and Enact the National Film and Video Censorship, Classification and Exhibition Regulatory Commission Bill 2019 in its place. Up to the date of that Public Hearing, stakeholders in the industry were not aware of the Bill and its contents.

PMAN is stating for the umpteenth time and the records that the works of our intellects, which consist of literary works, musical works, artistic works, cinematograph films, sound recordings and our performances are our private property. They are our Constitutional and Fundamental Human Rights. Any attempt to tamper with them with a view to appropriate them for anybody or authority be it private or public shall be resisted.

PMAN calls on other stakeholders in the entire creative industry to rise and team up for the defence of their moral and economic rights.

PMAN also calls on the leadership of the National Assembly both at the Senate and House of Representatives to thread softly on these Bills until the real stakeholders have made their inputs and had their say.

Thank you.

Crime / EOYNA Town Hall Dialogue by doggone: 1:13pm On Dec 18, 2020
Worried about the rising spate of kidnappings, banditry and killings, especially in the South West, the Egbe Omo Yoruba, North America (EOYNA) is set to engage via Zoom prominent Yoruba citizens in Nigeria in a dialogue on December 20, 2020. The town hall Virtual dialogue will start from 12 noon EST.

Topic for discussion, “Engaging Stakeholders in Solving Unfinished Business in Yorubaland”, will feature Dr Ifabukunmi Adewale, who is also the guest speaker. He will speak on “Yoruba Agenda and Security”.  Drs Adekunle Gbadamosi and Olu Ekundayo will also speak on the controversial Covid-19 vaccine that many are wary of taking for diverse reasons.

In a phone conversation with Nigerian Tribune from Atlanta, Georgia, Bishop Adejube, the national secretary of EOYNA, said Yoruba in the Diaspora are worried about the negative stories from Nigeria and are willing to contribute to finding solutions to the problems Nigerians, especially Yoruba, are facing in the country.

“The Egbe has said it several times that only a restructured Nigeria can work for all and all the other regions should support the rising demand for true federalism in Nigeria. For those of us in the Diaspora, a working Nigeria is what we will all be proud of and EOYNA will continue to call for the restructuring of Nigeria,” he reiterated.
Other issues for discussions are the CBN directive on remittances (by Fidelity Bank) and update on EOYNA project, the Moremi Foundation & Yoruba Development Fund.

I know most of the guys here in nairaland will blast me and tell me all sorts of bullshits but the truth is bitter, after being leftout and heart broken by the girl I love so much, I made up my mind that girls will never play with my heart again so I went online in search for help and got it with a havy magic weapon the book 'How to make girls chase by chase Amante' i read the book for 100% and practise every single exercise in the book... It works like magic I started with with my level mate before I knew what was going on I have already bleeped seven girls in a month, I was like Oh my God I have arrived I will deal with girls since they play with my heart... I became a player and womanizers to extent I was able to disvirgin a girls but she left me after discovering I was a player... I continue my journey to become the Motherfucker but to tell you the truth I wasn't fulfilled at all... I was meeting different kinds of girls inviting them over using my magic weapon against them... Everything change when I met a girl currently my girlfriend and the woman I will love to spend the rest of my life with.... Initially my intention was Bleep her but I was shocked when i discovered she was a virgin and in my mind I was Today is your lucky day I use my magic weapon but it turns out to be a fiasco... For the first time in a long run a girl didn't fall for my magic.... To cut the story shot.

She told me that, she can't give me what I want, she said I have to earn it, there are way other thing she can offer other than sex. I was shocked that's was when my life change, my prespective about girl change and I realize I was going astary, I had change for good atleast let me Give love one more trial.... it took me complete 9 months for make her fall for me and agreed to be my woman and am enjoying every moment I have been with her and I love her like no other, although a night came she asked me deflower, but it wasn't the right thing to do cuz I was enjoying love, affection and the happiness that was missing my answer was 'NO' told her it was not the right thing to do and when the time comes I will be the happiest guy to unravel the Under....

My Advice to guys out there, most of us think girls are cheat but the truth is that there are decent, responsibe, truthful, honest good and amazing girls that will offer you a wonderful and fulfilling life apart from sex... Sex is important in a relation but It doesn't determine the good fate of a relationship... Don't let sex making you to miss out the things that matters in a relationship.....

Punching Bag!!!!!!

Bro, by now you should have married her as your wife. Right?
