Osinbanjo is literary one of the oppressors. He is the number 2 man/oppressor in the country. So he hasn't or doesn't need to choose any side 2 Likes |

maziude: Nice, I guess I'm wrong then. When I came in 2009, RBC and CIBC told me I had to wait for 6 months. Same with TD back then. Thanks for sharing that though |

chimah3: Your best bet is to get the prepaid for now. After about 6 months, call them to see if you're eligible for a proper CC. Sometimes you just have to start from the bottom. Then you build from there. You can also download the CIBC app on your phone to check your credit score for free that is if you have one. 3 Likes 1 Share |

chimah3: Haha, they hardly offer a credit card to newbies because you do not have a credit history. That's very normal. If you insist on getting a credit card with them, you could get a prepaid credit card. So you put money inside, spend it and pay it back in order to build your credit. Also make sure you pay your phone bills on time. After about 6 months to a year, you should qualify to get a proper credit card. 3 Likes 3 Shares |

chimah3: I would go with CIBC or RBC, you can hardly go wrong with either. I believe you meant phone service provider, Fido and Koodo usually offer the best deals for students. I believe Fido has unlimited Text, calls and data for $50 plus tax. Though I heard the speed gets slower after using 2Gb but not sure about that. 2 Likes 4 Shares |

CanadianNurse: It is straight forward if you are within Canada. Complete the questionnaire on www.cic.gc.ca, fill forms IMM5257B_1 and IMM5709E, make sure your passport is valid, get your transcript/admission letter and have about $3,000 in your account. Take a passport photograph with cic specifications and pay the processing fee. 2 Likes |

Ayoola03: From my own personal experience, I think you can get better deals in Canada. If you go to any BestBuy store, ask for open box laptops (these are laptops that was bought by someone else but returned within a week or two). It is pretty much brand new but the box is not sealed in it's original condition but who cares. Plus it comes with the warranty too. You could save a couple of $100 doing this and you can also bargain with the sales guy/girl on the floor. (This was how I got my Mac for a great deal). Also, you can get amazing deals on Amazon Canada/US if you search well and get it delivered to your doorstep within 24-48 hours using Amazon prime option. Or wait till Black Friday or Boxing day to get good deals. There are pretty good deals during this period. Also, when I was school, there was an option to rent laptop for free with our student ID Card (if you are worried about waiting till Black Friday). 23 Likes 5 Shares |

czaratwork: Sauga city and Toronto city are literary side by side. Mississauga is the largest suburb in Toronto and part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). There are IT jobs in Mississauga because a lot of corporate headquarters are located here. However, it is nothing compared to the number of IT jobs in say downtown Toronto. And yeah, IT is all about experience mehn. Companies don't really fancy Masters and PhD that much. |

Btw, who doesn't like free things? lol, no time to form mehn. All my friends know me that I like good deals and awesome sales. I don't care what people think. Nothing wrong with free stuff if the quality is good. I don't joke with buy one, get one free on black Fridays and Boxing day 15 Likes |

vcole: Like maternal said, all the big 5 banks are pretty much the same. Personally though, I use RBC and CIBC, I have been with RBC for almost 8 years now and I use their credit card too. They offer the low rate credit card with 11% purchase interest and 11% on cash advance plus they gave me a very juicy credit limit. CIBC too has been very generous with me plus I got all these when I was an international student. But I believe the most important thing is having a good credit score and paying bills on time. 4 Likes 4 Shares |

Fusion23: You can go on www.kijiji.ca under free stuffs/furniture/garage sales, you might be able to get some stuffs for free or very good deals especially if you check frequently. But watch out for beg bugs. All that glitters is not gold I do not know about the government giving out free furniture. I know they gave stuffs to the refugees from Syria last year but not quite sure about Skilled Immigrants. But might be true. 9 Likes 4 Shares |

GidiPrince: Your best option is to look for a friend traveling to Nigeria very soon. Give it to him/her and the person would deliver is for free. You can go on Facebook and ask if any of your friend or even friends friend is going back home soon. Plus this is April, the academic session is almost over and a lot of students should be going back to Nigeria for the summer break. |

ladylco: Hi, You should be able to get a room in a shared 2 bedroom apartment from $425 to $500 around Mohawk College. Prices depend on how furnished the rooms are and location in Hamilton. But make sure you watch out for bed bugs. There are some very gangster area in Hamilton with bed bugs infested houses. |

chaiks: Bro, your GPA is fine either way, though I understand that you really want to capitalize on your last two years since your grades are even better which makes perfect sense. When I applied for my Masters, UofT used my last two years but I had to submit my full transcript. You might have to research what the schools want specifically as I do not know for individual schools. As per funding, it depends on so many factors such as your grades, letter of intent, your program of study, your connection with the professors etc. Also, funding could be in form of a research grant, teaching Assistantship, scholarship etc. And btw, a low profile school does not necessarily mean an easy way to funding, you only have a higher chance of securing an admission. Most times the bigger schools have more connection with companies, government agencies and all and you'd except these organization to invest in the bigger schools for their research program rather than the smaller schools therefore, these schools have more access to money. So in short, funding is never sure but you can increase your chances by writing a badass Letter of Intent, very professional resume and do GRE. 2 Likes |

Seriah: Hi, Since I am assuming you obtained your education outside Canada, you have to get it assessed using WES or IQAS in order to determine its equivalency to a Canadian education. So if the outcome says your B.Sc is equivalent to a Canadian B.Sc., and your IGC is equivalent to a Canadian Diploma or Certification then you'd fall under the "Two or more certificate, diploma, or degree. One......". |

chaiks: You'd still end up with approximately 3.73 outta 4.00. That's a very good GPA by the way. |
Travel / Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by dogice(m): 1:43pm On Jan 18, 2017 |
chaiks: Hello, Most post secondary institution in Canada go with a scale of 4.00 (I know UToronto is outta 4) but technically speaking, you can convert to any scale you like. In this case, your overall CGPA will be [(4.49/5) x 4] = 3.59. In order to calculate your last 2 years, it depends on the number of credit you took in each of these years. So assuming you took equal amount of credit courses for those 2 years (say 60 credit courses each), you can just scale down to a scale of 4 using the weighted average. i.e. [(0.5 x 4.75) + (0.5 x 4.58)] = 4.665 then [(4.665/5) x 4] = 3.73 1 Like |

HarveySpecter1: Most schools and courses offer Co-op programs and a lot of companies hire co-op students. If your school won't let you go for a co-op session, summer internship is another option. It depends on the structure of your program, if you have the summer off, you won't even need to skip school. You can just go for your internship in the spring and return to school in the Fall. 1 Like |

phemmyB: Hi, First of all, McGill is a top school and very competitive, never put all your eggs in one basket even if you have a 4 out of 4 CGPA. Try apply to 2 less competitive schools. Sometimes, the most important thing is an admission not necessary an admission into the best schools. Did you check the admission requirement before you applied? You should have checked that. You have to at least meet the minimum requirements. Also, they should state if GRE is needed for admission or not. You need to check all these things before applying else you will be wasting your previous time and hard earned money. Scholarship is never guaranteed in Canada like the United States especially for international students. However, if your program is strictly research based, you should get a funding package from the school. How much the funding is, duration of funding, etc are the things you need to research even before applying. 1 Like |

Chinnie4Jesus: Hi, Ontario paused nomination for some of their streams last year. They paused the Human Capital Stream (Only the French category is still open in the Human Capital Stream), they also paused the Investor Category stream last year. But the employer/job offer stream is still open. And yes, a lot of people received NOI from various streams last year before they were closed. |
