Teddywhiz1: No bro, you asked for the minimum wage in Manitoba which is what they pay McDonalds, KFC etc workers. As an engineer you would earn more for sure lol. You should relatively get job easily as an Electrical Engineer especially if you have some IT experience. Engineering is always a noble profession and it is always a good investment but at the same time, nothing is sure in this life. I have heard of doctors that are jobless. Confam!!!. As long as you do not limit yourself by applying to only the top companies like Goldman Sachs, Rogers,Bell etc you'd get a job with time. It's all about flexibility. For example, I studied Chemical Engineering but I'm currently working in a Mechanical Engineering company maybe I might go back to Chemical when Oil bounces back. But who knows As for Nursing, you'd get a job even before graduation. Nursing is 100% no doubt. But it is all about what you love at the end of the day. 3 Likes |

HarveySpecter1: As an EIT (Engineer In Training) average salary varies. It could be $40,000 per year to $65,000 per year depending on the company. Big companies like SNC Lavalin, EXP, PLC contractors pays EIT as much as $60,000 per year. It's always difficult to find a job while in school but it's not impossible for sure. You could apply for a Co-Op program though. But after graduation, I can 100% guarantee you as a Civil Engineer, you would get a Civil Engineering job. It might take time and the pay might not be huge at the start but the experience is always critical. Then by the time you become a professional engineer, you'd be golden. I studied Chemical Engineering (B.Sc.) 3 Likes |

Mattezo: You can just go with the $19 600 since that covers everything plus it saves you time in calculating individual cost. But if you wanna calculate your cost individually, as per the board, it depends on how much food you eat but you're save to put like $350 per month. You really can't go wrong with that. Though most schools provide meal plan card that you could use for feeding but trust me, it's not worth it. You can always decline their meal plan when you get to your school. |

Mattezo: 1) They aint talking about NYSC bro. Just put"NO" for the military part. 2) For the funds available for your stay, it depends on how much you have on your statement of account. But you could estimate your living expenses to be $1000 per month times the length of your program (in months) plus your tuition. That should be the minimum amount you should put. And you can always go higher. Or You could just go with what the school sent to you. I'm pretty sure they sent you the Fees and Expenses for a year. So you could just put that amount times the number of years of your program. 3 Likes |

michaelbelgium: You don't have to put the university address. You could just go with something like this: January 09, 2017 The University of Toronto, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Toronto, Ontario. RE: Statement of Interest Dear Sir/Ma: 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Teddywhiz1: There are numerous opportunities for engineer after studies. Sometimes, it takes time but you'd eventually get something if you're patient like in my case. The Civil and Electrical guys are doing well right now because IT is booming and construction/maintenance is always going on as per an advanced nation. Chemical/mechanical is struggling right now because of the oil thingy but the automotive sector is usually the fall back for these guys. Minimum wage is usually $10 per hour for basic McDonalds, KFC and Subway kinda jobs. My engineer friends in UK told me about the whole UK thing. I don't understand why we Nigerians rush to the UK with their economic situation but what do I know. I remember when I was writing my CELPIP exam for PR, there were British in the room doing the same exam to immigrate to Canada I kid you not. 1 Like |

Razzo: Your grade point should be fine for most schools sir. Yours is roughly 3.5 on a scale of 4 which most schools use. You might also need to write IELTS since you did not school here (not sure about that) and submit your resume and letter of intent which is mandatory for everyone. You also need to provide references. The overall decision is made on these factors. Cost of living depends on the city you live/the kind of lifestyle you live sir. |

Razzo: Hello, is your grade point out of 5? As a Canadian trained Engineer myself, I could advise you on this. Memorial University of NewFoundland MUN, University of New Brunswick UNB, Dalhousie University, University of Ottawa, Queens University. These are quite cheap and you can hardly go cheaper in Canada. You do not need a supervisor for MEng program, you only need references. Also I believe York Uni and Western has a decent tuition. |

datmadman: I haven't been to Newfoundland but I have a few friends that schooled at MUN. Newfoundland is a a dead province tbh but who cares. It is still better than Lagos But the good news is MUN is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest University in Canada and the school is standard. Also, the province has oil so they aint doing too bad economic wise. |

iykedare: Ryerson University is in downtown Toronto and McMaster is in Hamilton, both in the province of Ontario. But yea, you're right, McMaster is a top school in Canada when compared to Ryerson. Cost of living in Toronto is higher than in Hamilton. |

Teddywhiz1: Temporary Residence Visa is the document you need to enter Canada. TRV could be single entry which you can only use once to enter the country and is usually valid for a month while multiple entry could be used numerous times. Study Permit is a document issued at your point of entry in Canada which allows you to study in the country. Most people get their SP at the airport. Common places are Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. The application is usually done simultaneously. When your study permit application is successful, you get your TRV in Lagos, then as soon as you get to Canada, you'd be issued a study permit. 1 Like |

Futurewiser: It probably means an officer is working on your application but no decision has been made. Wait till you receive a message that says your application has been updated and a decision has been made. Just to be very sure, go to your CIC account, click on the "check status and messages" and make sure the row that says "review of submitted document" has "no additional documents needed at this time". I had a similar experience when I applied years back. |

I feel so honored to be the first comment. All of my hardwork and dedication has paid off. Getting the top comment has been a dream of mine for many years, and i would like to thank those who have helped me along the way. First and foremost i would like to thank god for giving me this opportunity. Next i would like to thank my parents. I want to thank my cat Belle, for being really fat and always there for me. I would also like to thank my pet tadpole for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next i would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees because that gives me inspiration that i need to get through the day. This is a special moment in my life and i would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that have helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that i will never forget. I just remembered a few other people i would like to thank; nairaland, the fish i caught in the third grade, my light in my room bc i wouldn't be able to see the keyboard without it, the internet for letting me go on nairaland, my house because without it i would be homeless, and last but not least i would like to thank all the people out there that actually took time out of their day to read this. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first comment on a post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day. Hopefully my good luck will continue, but this is undoubtedly a rare occasion. If you asked me how i did this, i would say, you can achieve anything u set your mind on. To all the kids out there reading this, i would like to tell them to follow their dreams. Being the top comment is amazing, thank you everyone. I think my page deserves a like or two 1 Like |
