Ebubu: Anioma is part of Igboland. It is not in the hands of Anioma people alone to decide which geopolitical zone Anioma State should belong to. It is the decision of the entire Igboland. One thing is certain: An ethnic nationality must be grouped together in one geopolitical region. That is to say, all parts of Igboland must be brought together under the umbrella of one region. 2 Likes |

AlexBells: AlexBells, you cannot be asking for a peaceful resolution over what is yours. Bonny and Opobo are parts of Igboland right from the beginning, and we cannot allow a portion of our nation to be ceded out. Bonny and Opobo are Igbo. No negotiation is needed in order to unite the two islands together with the rest of Igboland. Since they belong to the Igbo, what Igbo leadership needs to do is to have a broad dialogue with them, educate them on their true history and origin, hear their own side of the argument, prove to them that their denial of their Igbo ancestry is as a result of false narratives, psychological effects and identity crisis, and then support the proof with (1) early historical documents on Bonny and Opobo, (2) oral traditions from Ngwa/Ndoki people on the formation of Bonny as well as written records on Opobo, and (3) empirical evidence which is the Igbo language. If Igbo leaders reach out to Bonny and Opobo people in a genuine brotherly manner, I am sure the indigenes of these two Igbo islands will naturally embrace their Igbo identity. Blood is thicker than water. 1 Like |

AlexBells: Blood is thicker than water. Bonny and Opobo people know deep inside their hearts that they are Igbo. The Igbo nation will never wage a war in order to unify any Igbo tribe with the larger Igbo populace. And when it comes to Igbo unification, there shall be no referendum because a referendum in this situation is an insulting vote that questions the Igboness of an authentic Igbo tribe and as such gives a section of Igbo people a mischievous chance to decide whether to opt in or opt out of the Igbo nation. Referendum does not determine where a tribe truly belongs. What Igbo leadership needs to do is to reach out and have a brotherly dialogue with the people of Bonny and Opobo, embrace them in concrete terms as part of the Igbo nation, ask them to disregard the fraudulent political narrative that ascribes their origin to a different nation, engage them in a debate on their origin using linguistic, sociocultural and historical records, encourage them to uphold the Igbo language as a sacred ancestral inheritance which points to their true origin, advise them to ward off any ideology that threatens to supplant the Igbo language with a different language, embolden them to assert their Igbo identity by giving their children Igbo names and by taking the Nze na Ozo titles, and cordially empower them with strategic positions in various Igbo organizations. |

AlexBells: You cannot split the Ubani stock into two. Bonny and Opobo are together called the Ubani tribe of Igboland. Wherever Opobo goes, Bonny naturally follows, because both are one. And the destiny of Ubani is tied together with the Ngwa and Ndoki people who are the aboriginal founders. The elders of Ngwa, Ndoki and Amaigbo should rise up and act as kingmakers in these two great Igbo islands. Ngwa and Ndoki people should work together with Bonny indigenes because they all are of the same Igbo lineage. In the same vein, Amaigbo people must play a broader part in the decision-making process at Opobo because Mbanaso Ozurumba (King Jaja) the founder of Opobo came from that part of Igboland. The Igbo nation cannot be silent in these serious matters. Currently, identity crisis has caused a huge confusion in the mindset of the Bonny and Opobo indigenes. But in due time, the false history and fraudulent narratives stirring this confusion shall be called out and Ubani people shall be liberated and unified with their Igbo brothers. We do not dispute the presence of Ijaw in these two Igbo islands, however, their number is small compared to the population of the Igbo indigenes. More than 90% of Bonny and Opobo indigenes have Igbo ancestry because the land was founded and peopled by the Igbo. 1 Like |

AlexBells: You cannot be an Igbo person and at the same time be of this position. Bonny people claim an Igbo descent right from the beginning. Any little Ijaw in that island is of recent, non-indigenous settlement. You cannot separate Bonny from Opobo. They are of the same Igbo stock. Put together, Bonny and Opobo are the Ubani tribe of Igboland having been derived from the Ngwa and Ndoki sections of the Igbo nation. |

AlexBells: King Jaja of Opobo stands very tall among the greatest Igbo men that walked the face of the earth. Rather than splitting Bonny into two in order to rule a part, he wisely left that Igbo island and founded a new Igbo settlement. He expanded and secured the Igbo territory. This singular act puts him up there as the greatest Igbo man in recent history. Bonny, Opobo and Okrika are all parts of Igboland. This should not even be debated. The history books are there for the world to see. To avoid unnecessary wars in future, the Ijaw should stop claiming these parts of Igboland. However, when it comes to Kalabari, a two-split solution will bring peace: The Western half of Kalabari goes to the Ijaw while the Eastern half goes to the Igbo. 1 Like |

deekseen: Opobo is a living proof that Bonny is Igboland. Let me explain this grammar in simple terms step by step: (1) Opobo people came from Bonny. (2) Opobo people speak Igbo as the only indigenous language. (3) This shows that Bonny people are Igbo in origin and ancestry. (4) Therefore, Bonny and Opobo are parts of Igboland. |
Politics / Re: Amaechi Presidential Dreams: Ndiigbo And Ikwerre Political Opportunism by Donarozzi: 5:01am On Mar 28, 2022 |
Igboid: I authoritatively say that the above statements are wrong. Ikwerre people are Igbo. The apex Igbo organization Ohanaeze Ndiigbo clearly defined all Igbo-speaking communities (including Ikwerre) as part of Igboland. The point is that Ohanaeze Ndiigbo is the main body that can tell us what constitutes Igboland, and their definition is in line with ancestral and historical records. It would be wrong to deny any Igbo-speaking community from the South-South when it comes to political appointments, as if a "valid" Igbo candidate must be from the South-East region. This is totally wrong. Let us also remember that the geopolitical delineations like South-East and South-South are not enshrined in the Nigerian constitution, thereby rendering the geopolitical regions arbitrary. So, if we are talking about a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction, it means that the candidate can be selected from any part of Igboland irrespective of state of origin and irrespective of geopolitical region (since the geopolitical regions are not in the constitution). So, if Amaechi becomes the consensus presidential candidate, he is a valid candidate of Igbo extraction since he is from Ikwerre, and Ikwerre is Igbo. If he actually becomes the Igbo flagbearer, what Ohanaeze Ndiigbo needs to do is to advise him to encourage Ogbakor Ikwerre to come out fully and declare that Ikwerre is Igbo. Secondly, Ohanaeze Ndiigbo should reach two agreements with him in writing in order to support him or any other Igbo candidate for that matter: (1) he must do everything in his power to keep Nigeria one as a sovereign country if he becomes president, and (2) he must bring all parts of Igboland under the umbrella of one geopolitical region through boundary adjustment and state creation, given the fact that Igboland was deliberately portioned into different regions following the civil war. |

Yujin: The whole of Anioma is Igboland. Some Anioma indigenes work so hard to disprove their Igboness, and such attitudes are usually a result of the social and psychological impact of the Benin kingdom as well as the African man's tendency to value a foreign phenomenon against his own indigenous phenomenon. Certainly, we know that Edo and other people migrated into Anioma and became indigenes, but their numbers are insignificant compared to the Igbo indigenes. We may portion Anioma into three Igbo cultural areas: Enuani, Ukwuani, and Ika. And to put it to statistical perspective, we may find out that Enuani is 96% Igbo, Ukwuani 97% Igbo, and Ika 80% Igbo. Specifically on Ika: the eastern part of Ika is about 90% Igbo origin while the western part of Ika is about 70% Igbo origin. That is how Ika area averages out to 80% Igbo. Tallying the numbers together, we may say that Anioma is 91% Igbo by ancestry. Generally, for the seven Igbo states, this is the estimate in terms of the ancestry of the indigenes: Abia: 95% Igbo Anambra: 96% Igbo Anioma: 91% Igbo Ebonyi: 96% Igbo Enugu: 95% Igbo Imo: 98% Igbo Rivers: 94% Igbo (that is, Igbo areas of the state) 1 Like |

Secondly, while Oye (Yoruba), Ogie (Benin), Ovie (Urhobo), Oje (Esan) could probably be cognates derived from the same root word in the proto-lingual stage, they are not cognates with Eze (Igbo). In my future writings, I will teach and explain the most likely proto-Igbo word from which Eze is derived. And this will also relate to the most likely section of Igboland from where all Igbo people spread out many millennia ago. |

Our Igbo origin has never been in doubt before and after Civil War. Anioma people were known as Western Igbos before the Amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914. And in 1939, the Obi of Agbor, Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko and the Obi of Aboh, for themselves and the entire Western Igbo people, petitioned the Colonial Administration for carving out the Western Igbos from their Kits and Kins East of the Niger. Consequently, in 1956, Western Igbo leaders organized the AMA1 conferences where it was resolved that the answer to the political problems of the Western Igbos was to create a West Niger Igbo State with the Headquarters at ALIDINMA. The agitation for the creation of the West Niger Igbo State assumed the name ANIOMA after the civil war. Have you always been your brothers-keeper or is this a sudden self-centered desperation in order to gain the support of the South Easterners in your pursuit of Anioma State creation? I think with this, your extreme question that boarders on self assessment, it is pertinent at this point to look back and critically outline the roles of the Delta Igbo’s during the most critical period in the life and history of our brothers across the Niger. A significant officers and men of Midwestern origin-Delta-Igbos fought on the side of the Biafran Army. Col. Mike Ndukwe Okweuechime, to start with was the Chief of Linguistics, Defence headquarters, Biafran Army till the end of the civil war on January 12, 1970. Navy Commander Frank Anukwu from Ika was in charge of Biafran Navy till the end of the war. Brigadier Nwawo from Aniocha North was General Officer who commanded 4 Command (Special) Division of Biafran Army. Col. Joe Achuzie from Oshimili South was General Officer Commanding (GOC) 16 division. Late Col. B.S.A. Nwajei from Oshimili North was at a time, the Commander 14 division. Col. Ochei from Oshimili South was Commandant of School of Infantry Biafran Army. Col. Morah and Col. Henry Igboba from Aniocha North and Oshimili North, respectively fought gallantly for the survicval of Igbo people during the war. Late Major Albert Okonkwo from Oshimili North was the Administrator of the defunct Republic of Biafra Mr. George Nwanze from Oshimili North was the secretary to Odumegwu Ojukwu, Head of State defunct Republic of Biafra, to mention but a few. It is important to mention that the above top military Officers and highly respected men of substance from the then Midwestern region, did not fight as mercenaries. I want to state that as a matter of historical fact, I too fought gallantly on the side of Biafra. In fact, I came back from my studies in oversea and was confronted with the war, as Igbo people were been slaughtered all across the North, we had to ran from Jos to Ibusa where I joined Force with the Biafran Army. Most importantly, it should not be forgotten that late Chukwuma Nzeogwu of Okpanam in Oshimili North died at Oboleke fighting on the side of Biafran Army. It is paramount to mention that late Col. Okonweze from Asaba was killed at Abeokuta during the counter Coup of July 29, 1966. Late Col. Henry Igboba from Ibusa suffered the same fate in Benin City in 1967. Late Mr. Ogwude from Ogwashiuku, a Parmanent Secretary was killed in Benin City the same 1967. The Benin City, Sapele Warri, Isheagu, Ogwashiuku and Ogbeke-Asaba massacres, to mention but a few, were reprisals against Ndigbo on both sides of the Niger Ndigbo east and west of the Niger shared a common fate during the Civil War as a direct consequence of the January 1966 Military Coup which was purportedly described as Igbo Coup. Don’t you think Igbo delta People not just those across the Niger, but those in River State etc have not been receiving their own share of respect and acceptance that prompted Okwuechime to voice out his frustration? The truth is that Ohaneze Ndigbo and the World Igbo Assembly (IWA) has created solid sense of belonging everywhere Igbo people reside. To buttress this fact, the brotherly relationship between Igbo South East and Anioma people is based on mutual love and respect manifesting in the election of Late Ogbueshi Dr. J.B. Azinge of Asaba as Deputy president General of Ohaneze Ndigbo before the tenure of Col. Joe Achuzia as Secretary General. The incumbent President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo is his Excellency Ambassador Raph Uwaechue of Ogwashi-Uka in Aniocha South of Delta State. As it stands now what is the most important or if I may ask critical support the delta Igbo people need from their brothers across the Niger? Very good! Very good question. I wanted to make the appeal even if you did not come up with the question. We want our brothers to see reason why they should come together to support Anioma State as the Sixth State to be carved out for the Igbo nation. Justice equity and fair-play demands this, the reason being in a memorandum signed by Chief Sam O. Mbakwe, Chief C.C. Onoh, Dr. Okigbo, Chief S.G. Ikoku to mention among others, that was forwarded to the then President and Commander-in-Chief, President Ibrahim Babangida and to all members of Armed forces Ruling Council, as was published (bring out document to quote date and paper) on Daily Times of Wednesday, April 17, 1991, on page 17. These great Igbo leaders after many years of Deliberation and consultation all across Igbo land jointly requested for the creation of Enugu or Wawa state from Amambra, Abia out of the old Imo and Anioma from old Bendel State. It is on record that Enugu and Abia has sealed through, so as you can see justice equity and fair-play demands that the next state to be carved out for ndigbo should be Anioma State. https://www.nairaland.com/3963902/anioma-igbo-origin-not-doubt 1 Like |

preZidO1: That a King/Leader/Eze/Obi/Dei said something does not conclusively imply that it is true. So, if actually Dei Benjamin Ikechukwu of Agbor said that Agbor is not Igbo, it would be dumb in this 21st century for his people to believe him just because he is the King. Today, we use reasoning, inference, science, academic insights, evidence, certain oral traditions [justified by "near truth"], language, culture, and similarities to know the true history and origin of a people. http://people.bu.edu/manfredi/Iduuwe.History.pdf 1 Like |
