Nigeria's equity market seems to be the most baffling amongst other countries, Naija companies will be recording gains and you that invested your money with them will be recording losses, my country people, na how dem dey do the magic?

EFCC went to Dangote's head office, on a norm, Dangote's shares is supposed to drop a bit, even if it is just for a day or two, as it could have happened in other climes, but nothing of such happened in my country. Instead, some lawmakers were busy saying it is very wrong for EFCC to investigate a whole Dangote, and such action could affect our economy.

Those of you stockpiling dollars when you don't have any business with dollars are a big part of our national problems, you guys should allow naira to breathe and stop hoarding dollars you don't need for any foreign business... Allow those that truly need dollars for importation and other foreign transactions have dollars.

Wotowotoman:

They are targeting USD accounts and it is 50 naira per deposit that they will use to discourage people from keeping dollars? Something that still applies to NGN accounts?

Please just stop posting about what you don’t know. You wey don jakpa go siddon for your small room wey you dey cack after hustling from morning to night and then dey write crap about Naija to put fear in people minds. Guy just shut the hell up!!!
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Donbrig: 9:23pm On Jan 02
They have been deducting N50 naira from every transaction made before now, so these new policies are very different from the normal charges on naira account, even my bank told me about CBN charges on domiciliary accounts. Lets wait and see what happens in few weeks/months time from now..... I rest my case

Wotowotoman:

Guy you wrote this hopeless epistle because of N50 per deposit? Money wey dem go also collect from Naira account. And you go think say you sound very smart. Na wa o.
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Donbrig: 9:20pm On Jan 02
Believe it or not, CBN is only targeting those with huge dollars in their accounts, CBN governor has emphasised on it in most of his recent speeches, they just want to start it little by little, but you will understand their main aim as we progress in 2024, no need to argue about it..

Many bank customers received similar mail from their various banks. Honestly speaking, the govt wants to target mainly those with Domiciliary accounts, or any account with any foreign currency, mainly dollar. This is to discourage millions of Nigerians with huge dollar deposits in their bank accounts and don't even need the foreign currencies for any business or importation of any goods into the country.

I knew the govt would come for us all with domiciliary accounts, the die is cast.

Many nations are trying to crack down over dependence on dollar in their local economy, and virtually all African country had been a victim of over dollarised economy, Nigeria in Particular.

Happy New Year to all, everywhere is just calm and quiet, I believe the gurus are still strategising on how to invest their funds wisely in 2024.

2023 was indeed a challenging year for our economy and Naira, we hope things gets better in 2024.

I hope inflation is tamed, and CBN comes up with people friendly policies that would improve living standard.

Most importantly, I hope God gives our govt some guts to disregard every biased economic advise from IMF, World Bank and other international financial institutions, they don't sincerely have our best interest at heart.

Good day everyone

I invested 25k in ucap equity fund last Thursday to test the waters since the interest rate for their equity fund is 44.53%.

I opened the account today and saw 24800, which is loss.

Would you advise I withdraw my remaining fund or be patient?

The uncomfortable truth here is because most Nigerians are thieves, if you have a big company and employ 100% Nigerians, you should prepare for bankruptcy in few years or months time. Because the main aim of 95 to 98% of Nigerian workers would be to steal from you and falsify all necessary documents.

Nigerians are some of the most fraudulent and criminally minded humans on earth, no matter how much you gonna be paying them as salaries, their criminal instinct will always tell them they could rise and become the boss, intead of taking orders from their fellow mate.

Nigerians don't like taking orders or play by the rules. This is one of the main reasons we have so many many fraudulent churches all over the country, assistant pastor or a regular church member would get tired of taking orders from senior pastor, his/her aim would be to open his own church, and the circle continues.

Either we believe it or not, we are not just normal humans, this is why we are the most disliked nationals on earth, not just our leaders, but our society is too hostile and unhealthy for rearing animals, much more raising human beings.

I rest my case.

Hamachi:
I noticed a consistent behavioural pattern among Nigerian billionaires who run big businesses.

This behaviour is pronounced more among Mike Adenuga of Glo Brand and Aliko Dangote.

The behaviour is this: these business owners hardly hire Nigerians as business executives to run their businesses.

They prefer to travel as far as Pakistan, India, or Lebanon to hire their nationals to come to Nigeria to run their business.

Dangote's top executives are mainly from India and then Lebanese, while Mike prefers hiring Pakistan nationals to run Glo for him with his daughter Bella.

Dangote started hiring Indians business executives when he was a trader and since he transitioned into an industrialist, he has not looked back as he has doubled down in hiring them.

Hiring these guys comes at a steep price.

Most Dangote Group executives are Lebanese or Indian, and their annual salaries are up to 300 million naira per annum when converted to our local currency.

Aside from the high cost that they charge as salaries, you provide a duplex accommodation in Ikoyi or Banana Island with an SUV for them.

You also provide Hilux vehicle with policemen protecting them against kidnappers since they are endangered specie because of their white complexion.

Devakumar V. G. Edwin is one of Dangote's trusted lieutenants, as Aliko does not joke with him.

He has been with him since 1992, when he joined the business as a general manager.

At that time, Dangote was still a mega importer and a trader.

Edwin helped to transition the Dangote group into the industrial behomth that it is today from a trading company.

He is the one supervising the refinary project in Lekki for Dangote as Dangote trusted him so much, having supervised the building of the cement plants for the group all over Africa.

When you convert what Devakumar V. G. Edwin earns into Naira because he is paid in dollars by the Dangote group, the man earns more than 350 million naira salary per year.

Just like the rest of Dangote's top executives, he is an Indian national, and it is the same story across the whole gamut of Dangote's executives. .

The CEO Of Dangote sugar, RAVINDRA SINGH is an Indian national.

The same with the CEO of Dangote Cement.

Now I want to understand:

Why, despite the high cost of hiring them, are these Forbes billionaires more comfortable hiring Pakistanis, Indians, or Lebanese than Nigerians to manage their businesses in Nigeria?

Are they more ruthlessly efficient than their Nigerian business executives?

Is there any reason why this is so?

No Sir, I didn't really mean to scold anyone, I was just stating the facts. Even if treasury bill interest rate is at 1%, there are many folks here who will still invest..

However, asking questions about treasury bills here and with expectations of getting the right answers isn't "Entitlement Mentality" but the opposite, because people with entitlement mentality don't ask questions that would equip them to help themselves.

RayRay06677:

You might be right, greater percentage here stop doing TB about 3yrs or more ago.

When we don't have express answer, must we lie or ASSUME with wrong answers to make us happy. Better left unanswered than passing wrong information. My thoughts though.

In general, folks here are doing just great, a deviation from an average Nigerian or nairalanders. They attempt all questions and that ain't bad.

You would have answered without scolding members as nobody is paid to answer questions. I only beg for answers when I ask, not my inalienable right to get answers.

Now the real problem with nigerians is the ENTITLEMENT mentality.

Very discouraging that nobody even bothered to answer someone who asked a question about treasury bills in a treasury bill thread, it is unfortunate to see questions on other topics that doesn't even belong to this thread are swiftly answered with long epistle...

Same situation that is killing our country Nigeria, leaving the main issues and tackling irrelevant issues that doesn't impact the lives of Nigerians. That's exactly why we are where we are as a nation.

@Cutedharmee, I believe the next treasury bill auction should be next week Wednesday, you can send your application before 12 noonTuesday next week.

Ghana is more indebted than Nigeria, Ghana has more economical problems than Nigeria at the moment. The only differences btw Naija and Ghana is that, Nigerians are crying more about their economical problems than Ghanians are doing. So because Nigerians are naturally lousy, it is very easy to believe that Nigeria has more economical problems than Ghana, epecially in the areas of paying back foreign debts..

Even IMF and other international financial institutions have already made it clear that Ghana cannot pay up about 60% of their foreign debts, and Ghanian govt admitted this irrefutable fact.

The good news is that the rest of world is beginning to realise how much they have been deceived by USA and their hypocritical foreign policies. It is only a matter of time before the table turns.

Many countries are already getting rid of American influence on their economy and politics. But this is still very difficult for Nigeria and other African countries because we have been so deeply messed up and dependent on US dollars/aids.

Totally agree with you bro.

The world will soon be done with dollar hegemony. Russia/Ukraine crisis has opened the eyes of many countries. China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, India and other nations are now concluding plans on how to trade with each other using their local currencie instead of using dollars as the only means of payment. It is only a matter of time before African countries follow suit, dollar is certainly still gonna dominate but it will definately lose lots of relevance on the international market.

It is only a matter of time... The pace to reduce the strength of dollar globally has already been set.... even IMF has seen the hand writing on the wall.

Was wondering about d safety of my investments. Are treasury bill, bonds, stock, bank accounts etc really safe?

Given that the information tying me to my investments are now warehoused electronically, at least most of them. What happens if their is a system wide failure? Becoming wretched over night, lol.

For example, a very large electromagnetic pulse can wipe electronic data on a massive scale. Events like nuclear war (USA vs Russia unrests or even North Korea vs World), solar flare from outer space...

Really scary stuff.

Thanks for sharing this post. I believe this is critically important for Nigerians to know when trying to get loans from banks to start up a new business.

In fact, this information even softened my anger against our banks, as to why they hardly give loans to intending entrepreneurs to start up a business. I now understand better.....

emmanuelewumi:
For those in the real sector and other entrepreneurs.

Bank loan can be used for the expansion of your business, the bank won't give you start up capital
