Scamming no good. Just imagine if the services that the said FAVOUR ORIJ WEJAPA isn't for scam but truly what they try to represent, they'd be making name and then who knows what might happened next. After all paystack is now used almost every part in Africa. You think for long time goal not the short time

So it's truly a scam under the disquise of offering a services. The guy I saw vouching for there services later did a video review on them since last year and I don't see that. It was the first impression that I see that last longer..

THAT'S WHY IT'S HARD TO TRUST ANYTHING FROM NIGERIA. WE'RE THE ONE BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR MISFORTUNE😭

Here's the tweet that the co-founder of the app have done something similar to this before and now, he's doing it again in a Grand style.
DONSIA:

I'm looking for that particular tweets now so that I'd share it here..

NOTE: I've read up where people said that their account got compromised and eventually lose access to thier account and funds too

They're activity updating the payday app and even roll out new base version today. But trust me they're not attending to any issues regarding the unsuccessful transaction

THEN I CAME ACROSS A CERTAIN TWEET ABOUT CO-FOUNDER OF PAYDAY HAVING INVOLVE IN SCAMMING HIS FELLOW WORKERS FOR YEARS BEFORE HE THEY GET TO KNOW IT'S HIM AND WAS DRAGGED ALL OVER THE TWITTER SPACE

I'm still looking for that tweet cause it was yesterday I saw it and then I haven't see the recent comments from other users experiencing the same thing and funnily enough, they're responding to tweets under comments to DM em but yet the dm is actually locked. Meaning they're not receiving any message from thier users...and then they made a tweet that people should join them on telegram that they'd get fast replies to thier queries 😳🤣

rtdCivilservant:
What point are u trying to make? The problem may actually be from ur bank, Kuda, cos of recent if u use Kuda to transfer money to some banks, it could take like 3 days to drop.
Actually the problem isn't from my bank 💯. Just wait till I'm done with the thread. I'll post evidence and all 😊💯

EMAIL APPROACH

I decided to use email to tackle the problem by mailing their support mail address. I just went straight to point in my mail. But unfortunately again, no reply.

And in 2021 when I created my kuda account, I remember having pending verification issue, that it was on Twitter that I get to contact them swiftly and got my problem solved. I decided to head over there and search for thier handle.

TWITTER

Unfortunately, they've disable thier DM features so I decided to do what every frustrated person would do my commenting on thier tweets and that was when I noticed that majority of people are having the same issue. I read over few and see some positive and mostly negative. I just decided to go make the tweet on my own account and mention them..

As you can see above, I shared two image with account right? Both accounts can be found on my payday Dashboard when I newly created the account. But At the time of creating this thread, it's only one account I could find on the payday Dashboard hence why I shared the screenshot from my kuda account thank God it's Kuda I used to send the money, I love being a steap ahead in my dealing 😅🙂.

Why Removed the account I paid into in the first place from my dashboard if this isn't to cover up which account I transferred into in the first place.

AFTER LIKE 2/3 HOURS

I decided to check in again but was disappointed that my account isn't funded yet with the money I made to the globus bank. So I check through the app and see their help desk page with inbuilt chat and email, so I settled to use the chat since I believe it'd be more easier. I message them and hoping to get response 💯 but unfortunately, none was forthcoming 😢😭

Business / Re: Fintech:Boycott From Using Payday Or You Lose Your Money (Masses Experience+Pic by DONSIA(m): 7:52am On Mar 30, 2023
ACCOUNT FUNDING

so after the verification, I proceed to funding of my wallet. There's no way to add fund to the account like using paystack or any other embedded features, you'll have to pay to third party account that was created for you by payday in thier app and since everything was automatically generated, I never really suspect a foul play because I've been using some sites like that too that I've been paying through that channel. So I proceeded to funding my wallet.

NOTE: Two Bank account was automatically generated for me. Wema bank and globus bank. I paid to the globus bank (it's my first time hearing that bank seff) but since I searched for it on my kuda app and found it, I went ahead to pay the money through my kuda bank account.

The transaction was successful and I went back to my payday but my account hasn't been credited yet, so I never bothered and just decided to sleep till the next day and continue my operation.

So, i have this guy on my Facebook list and he talks about using payday to pay for service since they offer naira to usd swap and then it's unlimited just that it's at black-market rate. So three days ago (27th march) I decided to open an account with them and use thier services simply because I wanted to create a video and I'd need to show my audience the site to use and every step by step process of the account creation too. So I decided to register and credit my account.

ACCOUNT CREATION

the account creation was actually smooth and even though it's around 12/1:0am with no light (well light area) I was able to verify the account after couple of trial because they rejected my nin. It's through bvn I used to verify and complete every account verification things.

I'm not saying borrower shouldn't pay oh, in fact, why would you borrowed loan that you know very well that you won't be able to pay back in due time.. Buh then, Stuff happens.. In fact, let assume the DEATH IS INEVITABLE AND PEOPLE DIE.. then the distributed messages by this so called LOANERS is off a victim has lost his/her life to accident or stuff.. JUST IMAGINARY FICTON
And this type of message wasn't sent to those who know the person that has been ghosted already.. Won't it be like pouring salt to an open wound.. My reasoning ni oh.. No vex!

So, On December 23rd 2021, I received the random but yet so familiar messages from SOKOLOAN About A Victim (User) of thier services, the loan they're offering...

BY DONSIA
PERSONALLY, I KNOW THE PERSON CAUSE, THE VICTIM IS MY SECONDARY SCHOOL MATE WHOM WE DON'T EVEN TALK MUCH, JUST ONCE IN A WHILE CONVERSATION BUT I'M GOOD WITH THE PERSON

SOKOLOAN message context
Good day, s###### o##### l#### with phone no 081411###44 is a chronic debtor acting dubious towards an overdue loan repayment, until full repayment is made he/she should not be trusted with any form of transaction. thanks.

After reading the message, Immediately, I knew whom the victim was because prior to the day I got the message, I've seen a post around November 2021 where the victim did her wedding and she's pregnant already, she was damn heavy. Wasn't even aware, I was told and I merely congratulated her and that was probably the #8times I texted her for the whole 2021.. I'm saying to let you guys here know that we don't talk often as I've claimed above buh we're Good!

WHAT BRINGS ABOUT THE THREAD
I received another message this afternoon January 4th 2022 from another number but different undisclosed company.. Just a random picture and lending as thier public name and thier own message go as this

BEWARE OF A FRAUDSTER/SCAMMER

S####t o#####e l####i

Phone no 081411###44 OR 081446###43

FOR DUPING A LOAN FIANCING COMPANY OF A SUM OF MONEY. THE PUBLIC IS HEREBY ADVISED TO DESIST FROM TRANSACTING BUSINESS WITH HER TILL SHE IS ARRESTED AND WILL BE POSTED ON OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES(Facebook, whatsapp & Instagram). IF FOUND PLEASE REPORT TO THE NEAREST POLICE STATION

YOU MIGHT HAVE PROBABLY BEEN WONDERING HOW IS IT MY OWN RIGHT.. I SWEAR IT'S THE ATTACHED PICTURE OF THE VICTIM

BY DONSIA
Probably, had it been its just a message that picture isn't attached on, I swear, I might have ignored as I've always been doing whenever I get sort of messages like this.. Buh immediately I saw the attached picture even without downloading it, I lost my cool.. Not that I'm related to the victim oh but because THIS SO CALLED COMPANY with the public name of LENDING Do outside the terms of conditions that guide users privacy policy and they knew if legal action is to be taken and someone decided to fight em, they'd probably end up being the one paying the victim.. So they decided to fight their victim(s) dirty

MY OWN OUTBUST THAT MADE ME CREATE A THREAD
BY DONSIA

You're mad!
You guys are literally behind the reasons why so many people are committing suicide.. You're one of a factor too
I've been getting tons of this spamming from you.. Person borrow loan, once payment isn't made, the next is to they tarnish images.. How i wish I can let you know the meaning of Users *PRIVACY AND DATA*.....
You come even attached image join upon all the fucking texts you guys have been spamming me with...

See eh, I know the person but to hell with you and your so call *SUM OF MONEY!* that you decided not to disclose which I'm very sure it's not up to #10, 000 naira seff buh yet, you're so happy tarnishing one's image through the social media even disclosing every things that's meant to be private with you and your company.

Now, it's your own money that the amount can't be disclose right
Buh you're happy exposing someone life, endangering it.

if you're the type that read messages carefully, you guys will definitely see the act of madness and manner of unprofessionalism that the second company use in tacking thier customers... And it's a DELIBERATE act cause if the tides should later turn around, they would be the one to lose at last

BECAUSE I HAVE THE VICTIM LINE and I know she hasn't been active both on WhatsApp and Facebook, I decided to call her because on norms, mostly when it's new year, I do call almost every on my contact list even sent personal messages aside on social media buh she didn't pick up at the second attempt, so I stopped calling her

Family / A Wife In Maid Nature by DONSIA(m): 11:41am On Feb 13, 2016
A WIFE IN MAID NATURE
.
Your man has told you he is not planning on having kids or getting married anytime soon because he is still sorting out his life. He told you he wants to have his second degree (M.sc), a proper house and a bigger car first, yet you sit there smiling with just an O'Level/ND/NCE certificate thinking you'll be his wife?
You still ask for Brazilian hair and timberland from the little he earns. He goes to class from work and he will still meet you in pyjamas whenever he returns. When he's busy studying, you're busy watching generations, isibaya and Africa Magic. He come back home to find pap and chicken in the microwave everyday, the house is clean and his clothes are ironed.
You have no serious conversation with him than groceries you guys need in the house and the only advice you give him is "baby you need to buy new phone because Samsung E is out". There is no intelligent words from your mouth. Even no plan of making your own life better.
Yes, you are pretty, no doubt about it. Do you realise you are not doing anything a maid can't do? Your guy is going to going to finish school and the first thing he will do is to REPLACE HIS MAID because he can now afford to pay one and have a PROPER WIFE/GF.
That's when we are going to hear women famous statements "I was with him through thick and thin when he had nothing, but he thinks I'm nothing now that he's successful". Truly you've always been NOTHING but a maid to him, though you also warm his bed.
Empower yourself to be a woman every man wants to have as wife. Men want intelligent women that can give them meaningful advice when their mind is troubled. They also look for women who have both mental and power skills to carry the whole family if anything happens to his job or his health. Men don't want to marry 'liabilities' anymore.

Literature / 'sugar'! (to My Beautiful Sisters) by DONSIA(m): 12:40pm On Feb 07, 2016
'SUGAR'! (TO MY BEAUTIFUL SISTERS)

A lady kept a little quantity of sugar in a nylon on the table on a Monday morning, with the aim of using it to bake cake on Friday. In a haste to catch her flight, she rushed out. The ants soon traced the sugar, made their way through the nylon, and started 'devouring' the sugar! When she returned on Friday night, she took the nylon of sugar in readiness to bake the cake; but discovered that it has been reduced to nothing by the ants! She was unhappy! No where to get another sugar that night! She was worried about this disappointment and her inability to bake the cake for her friend's party the next day! If she had known, she would have been patient enough to keep it in a plastic container, and probably where ants wouldn't have access to!
.
In the same vein, ladies are like 'sugar'. God has made them so beautiful with great features and nice physique! Their 'sweetness' will definitely attract both the good one and the 'ants' who are just ready to 'devour' and reduce a lady to nothing! So many ladies in their impatient state and lust for material things/pleasures, have allowed 'ants' into their lives! These 'ants' have no value to add but just to 'lick' away their virtues and reduce their 'value'. ONLY IF THEY KNEW THIS BITTER TRUTH!!!

Crime / #inmyarea: 3 Killed, 121 Arrested As Rival Cults Clash In Abeokuta Elega+ago-odo by DONSIA(m): 9:32am On Sep 01, 2015
ABEOKUTA—Pandemonium broke out in some parts of Abeokuta, such as Iberekodo, Ago-Odo, Elega and Adatan yesterday, as two rival cult groups clashed, leaving three persons dead, including a newly-wedded man.
Burnt property after the clash
The clash, which started around 7a.m., lasted for three hours as residents and shop owners hurriedly closed their doors and stayed in-doors for hours till normalcy returned to the areas.
At the end of the clash, said to have erupted at a pub inside the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, last Friday, three people had been killed.
Vanguard gathered that the cultists, who wore masks during the clash, severed the right palm of one Babatunde Alamutu and went away with the limb after they had mutilated the body and slashed his throat.
Investigations revealed that Alamutu was a leader of Eiye Confraternity, who was reported to have shot at a member of Aiye Confraternity.
However, the bullet did not penetrate the target.
Alamutu, who was popularly known as Emir, was reportedly attacked immediately after his wedding introduction held at Elega Junction in the area.
Vanguard checks revealed that there was a reprisal attack by members of Eiye Confraternity, who stormed Ago-Odo around 7.30a.m. and reportedly killed two other persons.
One of the victims, whose name could not be ascertained at press time, was also killed in the same manner as Alamutu, while his remains was reportedly thrown into nearby Ogun River.
Security operatives
Security operatives, including men of the Department of State Services, DSS; men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, and scores of policemen, were led to the scene by Abeokuta Area Commander, Presley Dodeh, and the Divisional Police Officer of Adatan, Ogunjobi Tolani.Security personnel patrolling the area
The operatives, who drove into the scene in 14 Hilux vans and Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC, later raided a house believed to belong to a kingpin of Aiye, and a member of Oodua Peoples Congress, Najimu Sodolamu.
Najimu’s aged father, Musibau Sodolamu, his fourth wife, identified as Iya Azeez, and an unidentified elder sister were arrested in the process.
Three buildings at Sodolamu’s compound were completely razed, while no fewer than 10 vehicles were vandalized.
While confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said only one person was killed, identified as Babatunde Alamutu, 32.
According to him, many people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said: “Altogether, we have been able to arrest more than 100 cultists between yesterday and today (yesterday). So, we confirm that one Alamutu died during the cult clash this morning (yesterday).
“We have not ascertained the cult groups that clashed. After proper investigations, the CP is going to hold a press briefing.”

Nairaland / General / FG Earns N14trn From Crude Export – NNPC by DONSIA(m): 1:57pm On Jul 07, 2015
Barring other arrangements and deductions, Nigeria earned $74.512 billion, about N14.902 trillion, from crude oil export in 2014, according to data released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. The NNPC, in its 2014 Annual Statistical Bulletin, revealed that the amount was earned by NNPC and other oil and gas companies in the country, which exported about 773.833 million barrels of crude to different regions of the world.

The amount is more than three times the N4.425 trillion budgeted by the Federal Government for 2015. It is also more than the combined budget of the Federal Government from 2013 to 2015, comprising N4.92 trillion for 2013; N4.6 trillion in 2014 and N4.425 trillion in 2015 respectively.
Using the OPEC’s Reference Basket which puts the average yearly basket price of crude oil for 2014 at $96.29 per barrel, the export of 773.833 million barrels of crude translated to $74.512 billion, an equivalent of N14.902 trillion.
Of the total amount, the report noted that the NNPC earned $26.077 billion, an equivalent of N5.215 trillion from the export of 270.819 million barrels of crude oil in 2014.
Top buyers
The NNPC report further revealed that the highest buyers India, Netherlands and Brazil, spent $30.672 billion, about N6.134 trillion on importing Nigeria’s crude oil in 2014. Specifically, the three countries purchased 318.534 million barrels of crude oil from Nigeria, accounting for 41.16 per cent of Nigeria’s crude oil export as shown below:
India – $13.136 billion, about N2.627 trillion for 136.42 million barrels.
Netherlands – $9.817 billion or N1.963 trillion for 101.954 million barrels
Brazil – $7.719 billion, about N1.544 trillion for 80.16 million barrels
Export to other countries
In addition to the top buyers, Nigeria exported its crude to other countries including:
Spain – 79.648 million barrels
South Africa – 51.149 million barrels
France – 49.384 million barrels
Italy – 35.39 million barrels;
Indonesia – 35.137 million barrels;
United Kingdom – 31.488 million barrels
Contrary to claims that the United States had stopped importing Nigeria’s crude, the report showed that it imported about 24.048 million barrels in 2014.
Export to regions
Analysis of Nigeria’s crude oil export by regions showed as follows:
Europe – 354.545 million barrels, 45.82%
Asia and Far East – 193.267 million barrels, 24.98%
African – 97.874 million barrels, 12.65%
South America – 90.664 million barrels, 11.72%, and,
North America – 27.094 million barrels, 3.5%
In general, the NNPC stated that, “A total of 796.654 million barrels, representing 2.18 million barrels per day of crude oil and condensate was lifted for domestic and export purposes, showing a slight decrease of 0.46 per cent against 2013 figures. “Of the total quantity, NNPC lifted 349.721 million barrels of crude oil, representing 42.86 per cent of the total, averaging 958,141 barrels per day for both domestic utilisation and export.”
Nairaland / General / Wonder: MTN Changes Airtime Code From 12 To 16 Digits by DONSIA(m): 12:39am On Jul 03, 2015
If you just buy MTN airtime from any vendor, you might be surprised to notice the digits are no longer 12 like they used to be. Fears of it being fake might make you return it back to the vendor. It seems we have exhausted the 12 digit PINs and MTN have migrated to using 16 digits.

They took to their Facebook page to calm any doubts in the minds of users saying :
We wish to confirm that the 16 digit logical PINs currently in circulation are genuine.
While the new 16-digit PINs will ultimately replace the regular 12 digit PIN currently in use, please note that all recharge cards with the 12-digit PIN remain valid while stock last. We urge all customers to purchase their logical PINs and recharge cards from only authorised vendors or retailers
So from henceforth if you come across any MTN Recharge PIN with 16 digits, fear not and use it like you normally do.
what do you think about the new MTN Airtime Code?

Politics / Buhari: A Man Called Upon To Be A Hawk Must Catch Chickens by DONSIA(m): 8:25am On May 28, 2015
Muhammadu Buhari, who will be sworn in on Friday as Nigeria’s new president, is a one-time coup leader who once ruled Africa’s most populous nation with an iron fist.
But he has undergone a remarkable transformation from military general to as he calls it a “converted democrat” whom many see as the solution to Nigeria’s many problems.
His election victory over President Goodluck Jonathan two months ago was the first time power had changed hands to an opposition party at the ballot box in Nigeria’s turbulent political history.
Yet commentators say he will still need to delve into his army past to tackle rampant corruption, Boko Haram security concerns and economic troubles over the next four years.
“For him to succeed in tackling these knotty problems, he will need to behave like a dictator in spite of the constitution, ignore criticisms and keep abay sycophants,” said one former army officer who took part in Nigeria’s first military coup in 1966.
“This is the time for him to bear his fangs against graft,” added social commentator Tokede Williams. “A man called upon to be a hawk must catch chickens.”
– Past versus present –
Buhari, 72, has already pledged the corrupt and corruption will have no part in his administration and that he intends to lead by example.
Unusually for a Nigerian leader, he did not accumulate much in the way of spoils during his 20 months in charge of a military regime from December 1983.
Buhari
The devout Muslim, who has had to fend off claims from opponents that he is a religious zealot, is known to have only one simple bungalow in Daura, his home town in the northern state of Katsina.
He also took out a bank loan to pay the 27.5-million-naira ($136,000, 123,000 euro) fee just to contest for the presidential ticket for his All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
In office, his conduct will be closely watched for signs of excesses from his previous time in power that notably saw a crackdown on “indiscipline” and corruption.
Critics of the regime and political opponents were thrown in jail, including the Afro-beat music legend Fela Kuti, who was known for his outspoken lyrics.
Umaru Dikko, a former minister to the elected president Shehu Shagari that he overthrew, was found drugged in a crate on a plane at Stansted Airport, in an attempt to smuggle him back to Nigeria.
Critics of Buhari, particularly outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even suggested: “Once a tyrant, always a tyrant.”
“At his age, it is always difficult for somebody to change his normal way of life overnight. A leopard doesn’t change his spots suddenly,” said one lawyer close to the incoming administration.
“However it all depends on those guiding him in office. Buhari is used to the military command structure and the tendency to be autocratic will always be there.”
Softly spoken Buhari himself has rejected the description of “dictator” and vowed to operate “under democratic rules”, without conducting a witch-hunt against the previous administration.
“Let’s put the past behind us, especially the recent past. We must forget our old battles and past grievances and forge ahead,” he said in his acceptance speech on April 2.
This month, he announced he would no longer be referred to as “General Buhari”.
– ‘Messianic zeal’-
Buhari’s previous time in power ended in a bloodless barracks coup led by Ibrahim Babangida in August 1985.
He slipped out of public life but returned as head of a government agency, the Petroleum Trust Fund, bankrolling development projects with additional revenue from oil sales.
At the agency, he again showed an autocratic but effective style.
“He is not very communicative, he is reticent but quite knowledgeable without flaunting it,” said Ayo Banjoko, a Lagos-based political analyst.
“He is imbued with a messianic zeal. He has a rigid and intransigent disposition and he believes this country must and should be purged of its ills, especially corruption.”
Buhari’s military background and previous role as a northeastern governor have seen him viewed as best-placed to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency that has killed 15,000 since 2009.
Last July, he narrowly escaped death after a suicide bombing on his car as it travelled through the northern city of Kaduna. Many blamed the militants after he had previously criticised the group.
Buhari is divorced from his first wife Safinatu, with whom he had five children, and married Aisha, 44, in 1989. They also have five children together

Music/Radio / Song Review: Ladi By Olamide And Phyno Ft Lil Kesh by DONSIA(m): 12:50pm On May 27, 2015

Track: Ladi – Olamide & Phyno ft Lil Kesh
Album: 2kings (Olamide and Phyno)
I’ve seen many reviews on this track by Nigerians. Many critics pointed at the vulgar words that were used in the song. Though some don’t see anything bad in the song.
This will make me divert to overview of hip hop music in the world. Hip Hop genre of music is not to win souls for God. It was originated by the white to entertain their people before it was brought to Africa. In year 2013, Miley Cyrus released ‘Wrecking ball’ which is about broken heart but she went totally naked in its video. This proved that hip hop music is more of entertaining than sending positive message.
Hip Hop as a genre of music is not for kids because of its content. This is how it is in Nigeria and other countries too.
Back to Ladi, I can only give the song 3/10 under vulgar songs because the words were maturely presented.
I remember that the worst vulgar songs were released in this country in the past. Examples are:
1. Damoche by Late Damino Damoche
2. Dadubule by Skaley Mental
Both artiste mentioned raw names of sexual organs yet the songs were accepted by Nigerians. This gave other artistes courage that they can sing anything because Nigerians are not after the content of a song.
As I’ve said ealier in this post, the vulgar words in Ladi were maturely presented. It’s only Lil Kesh that used most vulgar words in the song yet they are not raw. Ladi is targeted at youths not kids. It’s a message to the youths to stop a bad habit which is common now. This bad act is even promoted by some writers who are hunger for fame and traffic.
Note:
Ladi means licking (sucking) of p*ssy.
Iranu means nonsense
Abasha means dirtiness
That is, licking or sucking of p*ssy is nonsense and dirtiness. The concept of the song is the best way to catch the attention of its target audience. It’s the right of the parents to censor the kind of songs they want for their children. Ladi has a positive message for the youths which I will want them to work on.
Licking or sucking of p*ssy is nonsense and dirtiness. Stop it today

Business / Fuel Scarcity Return Of An Almost Forgotten Ordeal by DONSIA(m): 8:04am On May 27, 2015

Beforethe strike by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, was called off on Monday, most bus-stops in Lagos played host to crowds of stranded commuters who were on the receiving end of a biting fuel scarcity that kept commercial and private vehicles off the roads for days. And while the scarcity lasted, it was complaints and lamentation galore among Lagos residents who found it difficult coping with the challenges engendered by the development.
THE AGONY CONTINUES —The crowd and long queues of jerry cans at Capital Oil filling station, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, yesterday. Below right: Stranded commuters’ option B in Lagos, also yesterday. Photos:Lamidi Bamidele with NAN.
At some point, the situation seemingly got out of control as some Lagos workers were compelled by the transport challenges to pass the night in their offices. While there were fewer motor vehicles on the road, many people with jerry cans were frantically moving from one filling station to the other in search of the elusive petrol or diesel to buy.
Some of them who spoke toVanguard Metrosaid they wake up as early as 2am to go in search of the products, especially when alerted that a particular filling station had fuel to sell.
Unfortunately as the days went by, the number of filling stations dispensing fuel reduced drastically. The few that had fuel to sell became scenes of confusion as they were usually besieged by motorists and individuals who converged there with their jerry cans to buy the much-sought-after product. Such scenes were witnessed in virtually every part of Lagos.
It also emerged that many of those who bought with jerry cans often did so for commercial purpose as they turn around to resell what they have bought for huge profit. For instance, after buying at the rate of N120 or N150 a litre, they sold 10 litres at N5000, while others sold four litres for N2500.
Just when the situation was about taking a turn for the worst, oil workers, presumably prompted by the decision of Capital Oil boss, Ifeanyi Ubah, to release 13 million litres of petrol into the market, called off their strike. While news was received with joy, the suffering, however, continued. This is because across the country, the situation brought about astronomical increases in fares.
At Ketu area of Lagos, a commercial driver Femi Adegbuyi toldVMhe went as far as Idi-Iroko in search of the product. And after buying at the rate of N250 per litre, he was compelled to hike fares from N200 to N500 for a trip from Ketu to Oyingbo. The situation was the same among other commercial drivers who also hiked their fares.
For instance, a trip from Ayobo to Iyana- Ipaja which ordinarily costs N150 was increased to between N800 and N1000. Same applied to Sango/Oshodi-bound commercial vehicles which charged as much as N2,500 per trip as against the normal fare of N200. Initially, a trip from Oshodi to Obalende which used to be between N50 and N200 was on Monday morning increased to between N800 and N1000, while a trip from CMS to Victoria Island, which ordinarily costs N150, was increased to N1000.
The situation was the same for Oshodi/Abeokuta-bound vehicles which increased their fare to N2,500 as against N400. Also, the driver of an Ikorodu/Abeokuta-bound car who ordinarily charges N1,000 per trip took advantage of the situation to increase his fare to N4,000. While consumers paid through their noses to source for fuel, it was boom time for black market operators as a litre of fuel sold for between N500 and N700.
A Policeman, DSP Kolawole Olalekan, toldVMon phone that he bought 10 litres of fuel at the rate of N3000 to enable him report for duty on Monday. At Yaba axis of Ikorodu Road, 10 litres of petrol sold for N3,500, while 5 litres sold for N1,700. For water transportation, commuters were also made to pay through their noses. For instance, at one of the jetties in Ikorodu, a trip to Victoria Island was pegged at N2,500 as against N700. The same applied to Bayeku to Ajah which attracted a minimum of N500 as against N300.
A commercial boat operator, Mr Riire Emiloju, said he has decided to stop operation until there is solution to the fuel scarcity. Riire said he buys 50 litres PMS at the rate of N20,000. “ I have been operating at a loss and have asked my boys to park the boats until there is solution to the crisis,” he said.

Health / Police Rescue Psychiatric Patient From Lynching Over Kidnap Allegation by DONSIA(m): 1:49am On May 27, 2015
The timely intervention of detectives from Ondo State Police Command reportedly saved a 25-year-old psychiatric patient from being set ablaze for allegedly attempting to kidnap some primary school pupils in Ondo town, yesterday.
Some youths in Oka area of the town were about roasting him alive, when policemen arrived the scene.
Vanguardgathered that ýthe suspect, identified as Peter Oyeyemi, was accused of lurking around the school when youths saw him and kept a tab on him.
He was alleged to have lured some pupils only to be challenged by the youths, who searched him.
During the search, items discovered in his bags include passport-sized photographs of different persons, picture of a teenage girl, a tecno handset, cash, female dresses and a copy of Bible and Quran.
The youths raised an alarm that he was a kidnapper and more youths mobilised to the scene. They stripped him naked and while some of the youths went for a tyre, others made for petrol.
He was reportedly beaten to pulp before those who went for used tyre and petrol ýreturned.
Vanguardlearned that some elders in the area informed the police who raced to the scene and whisked him away.
Police’s reaction
The command’s spokesman, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, however, said the suspect was a psychiatric patient who escaped from a mental home in the state capital.
According to him, police detectives discovered during interrogation that he was not mentally balanced.
Ogodo said his parents had been contacted and that they confirmed that he escaped from the psychiatric hospital in Akure, where he was receiving treatment.
He said: “The suspect was mistaken for a kidnapper. He is not. He is a psychiatric patient and his parents have gone to the station to show the police the documents of his health status.”
He, however, appealed to the people of the state not to take laws into their hands, advising that suspected criminals should be reported to the police.
The spokesman, who noted that but for the timely intervention of policemen the suspect would have been roasted alive on an allegation that was not proven, warned that jungle justice would not be tolerated in the state.
