Jokes Etc / Story: Dosbeat Quotes by dosbeat: 7:11pm On May 16, 2017
When someone treats you like you’re just one of many options, help them narrow their choice by removing yourself from the equation. Sometimes you have to try not to care, no matter how much you do. Because sometimes you can mean almost nothing to someone who means so much to you. It’s not pride – it’s self-respect. Don’t expect to see positive changes in your life if you surround yourself with negative people. Don’t give part-time people a full-time position in your life. Know your value and what you have to offer, and never settle for anything less than what you deserve.
Don’t feel sad over someone who gave up on you.
Don't feel sad over someone who gave up on you, feel sorry for them because they gave up on someone who would have never given up on them.
Over thinking kills Happiness. Insecurities kill self-esteem. Lies Kill trust.
People may not tell you how they feel about you, but they will always show you. Pay attention.
I’ve experienced a lot of crap in my life but the one thing that I have learned, is it is better to laugh about it rather than complain about it.
Caring About What Others Think Of You Is A Waste Of Time. Most People Don’t Have A Clue What To Think Of Themselves.
The best advice comes from the one who has made more mistakes– they have learned great lessons! The one who always got it right has surely not lived through the entire experience.
“ You can never make the same mistake twice because the second time you make it,
it’s not a mistake, it’s a choice .” – Steven Denn.
Sometimes we need to stop and say “Thank you for loving me.” It is such a simple thing to say yet it carries so much weight, whether it is with a spouse while you both read your books or it’s with a friend who has been with you through thick and thin or it is to a family member who has loved you from the start. Those words, that thought, the action of saying it to them with purpose and truth can mean the world to them.

Literature / Story: How Wickedness Came Forth by dosbeat: 5:34pm On May 14, 2017
“…wickedness, when you examine it, turns out to be the pursuit of some good in the wrong way. You can be good for the mere sake of goodness: you cannot be bad for the mere sake of badness. You can do a kind action when you are not feeling kind and when it gives you no pleasure, simply because kindness is right; but no one ever did a cruel action simply because cruelty is wrong – only because cruelty was pleasant or useful to him … Goodness is, so to speak, itself: badness is only spoiled goodness. And there must be something good first before it can be spoiled.”..

Literature / Story: Father's Love by dosbeat: 8:34pm On Apr 24, 2017
The Last Time From the moment you hold your baby in your arms, you will never be the same. You might long for the person you were before, When you had freedom and time, And nothing in particular to worry about. You will know tiredness like you never knew it before, And days will run into days that are exactly the same, Full of feeding and burping, Whining and fighting, Naps, or lack of naps. It might seem like a never-ending cycle. But don’t forget… There is a last time for everything. There will come a time when you will feed your baby for the very last time. They will fall asleep on you after a long day And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child. One day you will carry them on your hip, then set them down, And never pick them up that way again. You will scrub their hair in the bath one night And from that day on they will want to bathe alone. They will hold your hand to cross the road, Then never reach for it again. They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles, And it will be the last night you ever wake for this. One afternoon you will sing ‘the wheels on the bus’ and do all the actions, Then you’ll never sing that song again. They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate, the next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone. You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face. They will one day run to you with arms raised, for the very last time. The thing is, you won’t even know it’s the last time until there are no more times, and even then, it will take you a while to realize. So while you are living in these times, remember there are only so many of them and when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them For one last time...

Cannibals
Five cannibals get appointed as programmers in an IT company. During the welcoming ceremony the boss says: "You're all part of our team now. You can earn good money here, and you can go to the company canteen for something to eat. So don't trouble the other employees". The cannibals promise not to trouble the other employees.
Four weeks later the boss returns and says: "You're all working very hard, and I'm very satisfied with all of you. One of our developers has disappeared however. Do any of you know what happened to her?"
The cannibals disown all knowledge of the missing developer. After the boss has left, the leader of the cannibals says to the others: "Which of you idiots ate the developer?"
One of the cannibals raises his hand hesitantly, to which the leader of the cannibals says: "You fool! For four weeks we've been eating team leaders, managers, and project managers and no-one has noticed anything, and now you ate one developer and it got noticed. So hereafter please don't eat a person who is working.".....

Author Starlord
A husband is advised by a psychiatrist to assert himself.
"You don't have to let your wife henpeck you. Go home and show her you're the boss."
The husband takes the doctor's advice.
He rushes home, slams the door, shakes his fist in his wife's face, and growls, "From now on, you're taking orders from me. I want my supper right now, and when you get it on the table, go upstairs, and lay out my best clothes.
Tonight, I'm going out with the boys, and you are going to stay at home where you belong. And another thing, guess who's going to comb my hair, give me a shave, and tie my necktie?"
His wife says calmly, "The undertaker."
SMILE A LITTLE, NIGERIA!!....

Don't let these quotes make you feel lazy, do some jumping jacks in the same time for a good exercise.
Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Son, if you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now quiet! They're about to announce the lottery numbers.
There are more important things in life than Facebook and Twitter,.. like watching TV, and having a beer.
I follow a rigorous exercise routine that I never get lazy about; fetching beer bottles from the fridge.
Ultimate lazy moment: Watching the sunrise on TV because you're too lazy to get up and watch it for real.
When I was in high school I had two favorite subjects, lunch and recess.
Yesterday I did nothing and today I'm finishing what I did yesterday.
If I won the award for laziness, I would send somebody to pick it up for me.
Maybe there are no excuses to be lazy, but I'm still going to keep looking...

Romance / Story : My Kind Of Guy by dosbeat: 1:39pm On Feb 08, 2017
Let’s see. What do I want in a man? I’ll start with the physical.
He must be tall, at least 6’2”, young, broad shouldered (for all those pillow talks when I will rest my head on him), lean muscled stomach, great legs, clean nice smelling feet and toes. I don’t want a lot of muscles, just medium range will be okay for me.
He must be handsome with lovely dimples when he smiles and the most sinfully long eye lashes shielding penetrating eyes like Michael Scofield’s in Prison Break (what can I say, I’m a series freak and Prison Break is the ace. I have a mega crush on Scofield). He must be clean shaven but with that sexy evening stubble (Yeah, I read too many novels)
Moving on to the intellect. He must be smart, sharp, intelligent and witty with a wicked sense of humor. Vastly knowledgeable in every subject, able to hold his own in any conversation.
He must be suave and smooth but honest and straightforward without being short or rude. A civilized and cultured man but with a tinge of the caveman in him. He must have a mind of his own but acknowledge and respect other views. He must be a great believer in education and learning but not confined to the four walls of a classroom. He must read. A LOT!
He has to be unpredictable but utterly dependable. He must be spontaneous and exciting, going to great lengths to surprise and put a smile on my face.
I must be the great and only love of his life. He’s free to love others but must be in love with only me. And must be totally, completely and irrevocably faithful to me. There’s no compromise on that! He must never ever notice any other woman THAT way!
He must be in touch with his feminine side enough to watch Oprah and Pretty Woman (for the 106th time) with me but not lose his masculinity.
He must be passionate and sensitive; sensual and romantic; strong yet tender. A stud in bed who puts my satisfaction before his. An understanding, patient and considerate man. He must love children, be kind to people and care for animals (especially cats!)
He has to be a man of integrity who honors his words and pays his debts. Hardworking and determined, who puts his family (meaning me!) first. He must love challenges and not be averse to taking risks. He must be very successful and wealthy (enough to be listed amongst the first five on Forbes).
He has to love music and must be a wonderful dancer and have a lovely baritone voice (to sing to me). The kind of guy who will prefer to stay home with me than hang out with the boys but encourage me to unwind with my girls.
He must take pride in and applaud my successes and achievements. Boast about me to his friends and family. An arrogant but humble man (makes sense to me).
He must be a great cook, versatile in different cuisines, seeing nothing wrong in donning the apron.
The kind of man who would run into a burning building to save my cat; dine with presidents and go on to take a walk in the rain; quote Shakespeare and sing the words to a nursery rhyme.
My kind of guy must be unique and I know exactly where to find him. He’s in a country called Far Far Away where he lives in a huge castle right next door to Cinderella....

Romance / Story: the died in the church by dosbeat: 9:29am On Feb 08, 2017
They Died In The Service?
(Just a joke, but some truth for some
services - NOT ours, of course!)
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little
Johnny was staring up at the large plaque
that hung in the foyer of the church. The
seven-year-old had been staring at the
plaque for some time, so the pastor walked
up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, "Good morning son."
"Good morning pastor" replied the young man, focused on the plaque.
"Sir, what is this?" Johnny asked.
"Well son, these are all the people who have
died in the service," replied the pastor.
Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.
Little Johnny's voice barely broke the silence
when he asked quietly, "Which one sir, the 8:30 or the 10:30 service?"..

Romance / Stories: Mopelola, His Excellency, The Brutus Syndrome by dosbeat: 9:24am On Feb 08, 2017
I remember clearly the first time I saw Mopelola, or should I say met, or . . . discovered? I don’t know but all I know is that that was the first time I laid eyes on Mopelola. As the third daughter of a struggling overworked mother who had five other daughters and a father wrapped up in the second wife who had given him the much wanted three sons, it went without saying that my life’s prospects were severely limited but Mopelola changed all that.
It was the day my teacher in the Local Government Secondary school I attended courtesy of the state government who made education free and compulsory for the girl child, told me to carry his bag home for him and I did. It must have been Mopelola he saw because there was nothing that could have interested him in me. He touched her and said wonderful things to her. She made him moan and groan and pant and when he finally calmed, Mopelola emerged, looked at me and said, “See how he notices and needs me? This is what my life will be. I will be loved”. I nodded soberly. No one had ever loved me but apparently Mopelola was more loveable than me. I retreated to the background and made way for her, happy to live in her shadows.
In the following days I was to see how right she was. Teacher loved and cared for her in a way he never could for me. He gave her things and made sure she never failed. He paid for her WAEC exams and wrote them for her. Mopelola basked in the adulation (her word, not mine) and continuously reminded me “this is what my life will be from now on. I will never be pushed to the background anymore”. I looked at her and nodded. If anyone could do it, it was Mopelola. I had no doubt she would make her life like that.
And she did. It was like watching the birth of dawn. Mopelola bloomed and blossomed. All of a sudden, the tucked in chin, the hunched shoulders straightened and this amazing person was revealed. I would have envied her if not that I loved her too much.
I remember the time she got admission to the University of Ibadan and discovered teacher did not have enough money to pay for her. It was then she realized she could do better than him and she had to do better than him. He was holding her back. She could give the same thing she was giving teacher to another person and get much more in return but to do that she needed to get out of our small village and University of Ibadan was her escape route.
Mother ( Mopelola did not say Mama anymore) could not pay her fees and Father (Mopelola again) only had enough money to pay for his sons’ school fees. For the first time Mopelola used both her mind and body. She decided Father would pay for her school and anything else she wanted. That night when Father ate his amala and gbegiri, he unknowingly ate something more and woke up the next day to a sobbing Mopelola in his bed. He paid for her school and more. That was brilliant! I could never have thought of something like that, but of course, I am not as brilliant as Mopelola.
In the university, Mopelola discovered you didn’t need to work as hard as people always said, at least not with your mind. And when you are gifted with the kind of body she had, you really didn’t need your mind for reading. Mopelola put her mind to better use, planning and targeting specific lecturers who could influence all others. Mopelola had no intention of giving her body to all and sundry, no way! I admired her for that....

Romance / Story: 6 Minutes by dosbeat: 9:08am On Feb 08, 2017
6 MINUTES
I stood in front of the sink, washing the dishes. At the same time, I could hear the wheezing sound escaping from the pot of beans on the fire. Our kitchen was a very big one, beautifully decorated with white tiles and cream wall paint. The sound of the beans cooking on the gas got louder and I quickly rinsed the ceramic plate I was holding to check the food. I opened the pot and peered in, the beans did not look like it was ready. I picked up a plastic spoon from the rack and dipped it into the pot. This way, I could taste about 5 seeds of the beans to be sure of how long it would take for the food to be fully cooked.
As I dipped the spoon into the pot, I felt a loud slap on my back. It hurt so much and stung at the same time like bees had been released on my back. I screamed and the tears flowed freely.
“Stupid girl, so this is how you eat from the pot before serving everyone right? Shameless idiot. Or are you trying to poison the food? village witch like you! ”. Another slap followed.
“Aunty please stop, I was only checking if the beans is ready”, I replied.
“Liar, tell that to dogs who have no brain”.
I heard her daughter giggling behind her. As a result of all the drama going on in the kitchen, no one heard the knock on the door. Or the turning of keys in the key hole and Uncle returned from work. Uncle walked straight to the kitchen as he heard so much noise coming from there.
“Honey, princess, what’s going on? ”, he called out to his wife and daughter.
Aunty, carefully upturned the container of palm oil on the kitchen counter. We all watched it spill on the beautiful white tiles and I inwardly groaned. That meant I would go to bed later than I planned because I would have to clean up the mess.
“Don’t mind this useless girl, she just wasted the palm oil mama sent to us from the village”. Uncle stood at the entrance of the kitchen and listened to Aunty as she continued. “And you know its richer and better than the palm oil they sell in the city. How do I send for another now ehn? ”. Uncle smiled as he heard this. We all knew Aunty and Mama were at logger head.
They had been ever since Uncle introduced Aunty to his mother as the woman he wanted to marry. Mama hated her immediately; after all Aunty was not from our region neither did she speak our native dialect.
“Is that why you are beating her? For just palm oil? “, Uncle asked. “I did not touch her, she just finished slicing some onions for the beans that’s why her eyes seem to have moisture in them”, Aunty told Uncle. This made him smile again, he knew his wife and he knew what she was capable of doing.
“Princess dear, is that true?”, he asked his daughter. She just wobbled her head up and down, taking sides with her mother. Princess was dumb from birth. That was another reason why Mama disliked Aunty. She felt Aunty was possessed and so could not give birth to a child with complete faculty. Princess was the first child and only surviving. The other two had died at birth further cementing Mama’s claim that Aunty had some demonic spirit in her. She picked up Princess, ordered me to clean the kitchen and make sure the food was ready soon as she was sure Uncle was tired and hungry. I quickly curtseyed and replied that it would be ready in a jiffy. She nodded like a Queen giving orders to her subject and sashayed out of the kitchen with her daughter....

Romance / Story: All You Want Is Meaningless Sex by dosbeat: 11:34am On Jan 16, 2017
All you want is meaningless sex
…But got something else.
Looking at your severely cracked full-length mirror situated adjacent your iroko-strong but old door of your equally severely tattered one-room apartment, standing as naked as your shattered soul, made you reflect upon your life. Two days ago, you came back from a failed job interview. The day before that, you were on your way to another job interview which never was because there was a riot at the venue. You are an ardent reader of job offer ads and of literary arts on national dailies and you have travelled twice to the west to answer job offers, returning back with empty promises. You feel that your creative writing career is ebbing because inspiration comes and goes like tiny ulcers. You are an English graduate of five years and counting, of Enugu State extraction. The institution of graduation is immaterial.
This was the period your girlfriend of three years chose to “ebb” as well. Ify’s parting words were: “Judas, I can no longer take care of you because you seem not to take care of yourself. It was stupid of you to eat my money so freely. I am not a charity organisation, Judas. I am still in school, trying to finish. Do not take advantage of the fact that my father is so rich. Now I can see that your braininess cannot put food on the table. I pay your rent, your water bill and your light bill. Enough is enough.” Another reason she gave for leaving you, which shocked you inwardly and stuck to your mind, is that your extra-large penis embarrasses her and causes her extreme pain. “I repent from pretending that I enjoy sex with you,” she cried out. “You are too impossible!” In spite of everything, you still ogle at her slender back and firm buttocks as she departs from your room with her things and slams your old door shut....

Jokes Etc / Quotes: Love Pain Quotes by dosbeat: 6:56am On Dec 15, 2016
Sometimes we just have to accept that pain and love are two sides of the same coin. Unbearable as it might be, you cannot separate pain from love.
If you’re experiencing heartache because of loving too hard and too deep, here are some quotes that might help you ease the pain.
I have no idea what hurts more- loving someone you will never have or loving someone who was never yours.
Sometimes you just have to accept that with the joy of loving someone comes the pain of losing someone.
I heard it, loud and clear. The breaking of my heart in rhythm with your final words to me, I don’t love you anymore.
Love is like admiring a rose. You are in awe of the beauty from afar, but once you get close enough to touch, that same beauty will make you bleed till it hurts.
Nobody ever told me how lovely it was to fall in love. However, nobody ever told me how falling out of it was more painful than I could ever imagine.
Sometimes I wish I never met you. Maybe then I wouldn’t have had to frame my broken heart just to remember how loving you was both the best and worst thing that ever happened to me.
In life, there are difficult choice you must make- let in and let go.
The pain, it breaks me sometimes. But most times, it reminds me that what we once had was real and that was all I could ever hope for.
I always knew that loving would be the death of me someday.
No matter how hard I try to piece my heart back together, there always seems to be a missing piece. I saw you again yesterday and found the missing piece in your smile.
I always wondered why people had a hard time moving on. But now I know. It’s hard to move on when all you ever want is to turn back time.
60 Cute Love Quotes for Her
Falling in love with you was like being hit by a lightning- quick and electric. I always thought losing you would be the same, but I guess I was wrong. Losing you was like drowning- slow and cold and just plain scary....

Jokes Etc / Story: Happiness Quotes by dosbeat: 6:08pm On Dec 13, 2016
There are moments when you want to capture the feeling you have because it is pure happiness and you are in this awesome state of bliss.
When this thing happens, you want to write it down so you can look back on it a couple of decades from that very moment. Unfortunately, not all people are gifted with writing.
You need not worry because these quotes on happiness will help you to express yourself better so that you will be able to tell the world your story and make it last, forever.
Keep on doing what you think is right and you will be happy from the bottom of your heart.
I felt happiness the moment I looked into your eyes and saw my future with you.
Sometimes, I feel like the happier I become, the sadder the next scenes of my life will be.
I just want to keep on doing the things I love because that is the thing that makes me happy.
Smile for the things that makes you happy and makes your heart flutter and never ever let them go.
Appreciate everyone in your life because each person is struggling on his own and if a person is always there for you, it means that you matter, that they care.
There is no such thing as impossible, maybe you just have not figure out the answer just yet.
There will be tough times, yes, but if you remain strong and face your battles head on, I promise you, it is going to be worth it.
Time you spend enjoying yourself is not wasted at all.
Never underestimate the power of happiness to sweep the world off its feet.
I really do not get why people want to feel miserable than take a risk on being happy when it seems so much better to do so.
Take risks, live a little and you will find yourself a little better and a tad happier.
Of all the forms of happiness, it would seem to me that love is truly one of the best.
To love someone, is to let them take a shot at your own happiness and to be happy when you see they are enjoying themselves....

Romance / Romantic: Love Status Quote by dosbeat: 8:44am On Dec 13, 2016
Are you undeniably, positively and irrevocably in love? Do you feel that any minute now, your heart is going to beat out of your chest? Do not be ashamed of what you are feeling. Share it with your family and friends.

Let your loved ones know.

Here are some romantic quotes that can help you express how you feel.

There is no sweeter joy in life than you.......

Having you in my life is like breathing fresh air for the very first time.

I have always wondered what it would feel like to fall in love. I stopped wondering the moment I saw you.

People fall in love in many different ways. For me, falling in love was like being struck by a lightning. It happened so unexpectedly fast but right then I knew that nothing would ever be the same again.

I live in a different world that only you can ever understand.

Romance is not like hot burning heat of newly burned wood. It is the slow and simmering heat of a fireplace, ever present and ever comforting.

I always expected that falling in love would leave me breathless and gasping for air, the feelings so overwhelming that it would blur every other feeling in the world. I didn’t expect falling in love to leave me calm and content, the feelings so serene that they do not drown out everything around me, only enhance it.

Love is the most powerful magic in the world.

If I had to choose between you and the world, I would choose you. For what is the worth of having the whole world at the palms of my hand if you are not there to rule it with me?

Your smile is the only light I need in the darkest of days.

Jokes Etc / Quote: Pride Quote by dosbeat: 7:00am On Dec 13, 2016
Pride could always overshadow any feeling that we have.

It is both beneficial and dangerous for us, it is known as a two-faced being.

We should never let pride get the better of us because it would pull us down eventually.

Here are some quotes about pride that would leave you thinking if you are or you are not as proud as you thought you are.

Ignorance is always behind every argument that takes place.

You could still fall down towards the ground if you would not be careful while you are at the top.

You could be craftier than the other man, but you cannot be craftier than the rest of the world.

When you have enough pride in your blood, you could be louder than you want as a beggar and miles trickier than anybody else.

A poor person’s pride is what the devil uses to wipe his breeches.

Once you have climbed the highest and reached the top, you have to be careful because you will fall heavier.

Being dignified does not mean anything to me. I would rather be happy.

You would not see anything above you as long as you are always looking down on others.

A proud man only gets satisfied if he is being compared to someone below him. Once the competition dies out, pride would also leave.

If we are only alone, we would never be proud.

Proud people only want to do something in a great way but using only his strength. He is struggling with God, not with men like him.

Sorrow would always descend on proud people.

The humble are rewarded with blessings while the proud are opposed by God.

Whenever you think too highly of yourself, pride would come and devour you.....

Investment / Story: The Gene Of Greatness by dosbeat: 11:00pm On Dec 12, 2016
My son’s image looms large as I watch the political campaign on my black and white TV. Sadly, I do not feel my allegiance to him is strong enough to risk empowering him in such a manner.

You see, I come from a long line of great and politically inclined men, who regally stride where lesser mortals dare not tread.

History has it that my great grandfather pioneered a series of bloody revolts that dethroned an autocratic king in the then

Egbaland. My grandfather led an anti-colonial protest which escalated into an uncontrollable unrest. The scoundrels whom he gathered to himself felt the peaceful route was a waste of time. They can be credited for a series of lootings and destruction of British cargoes and ships at that time.

My father, for whom I have the highest regard, even if my next statement does not affirm so, was a scoundrel of the highest proportions. He was a bank clerk who rose to the pinnacles of power as a financier, but did little or no credit to the already mangled family name. He lived up to the expectations of ‘greatness’ however, as there was never any public officer of his time who commanded such liberties and authority as he.

You see, an understanding of this issue with my family is subject to your definition of the word ‘great’.

The gene of greatness must have skipped a generation however, for I do not have the means or the influence of name which my predecessors commanded. I am a man of lean and simple means. As a pensioner having retired from an organization of no reputable name, I live in a bungalow for which I still pay annually. What I have lacked in strength, wealth, and influence however, I have found in my very own son....

Romance / Story: PRIMA FACIE 1 by dosbeat: 6:49am On Dec 08, 2016
“PRIMA FACIE" 1
Austin glowed with absolute happiness as he approached the front porch and took another sniff at the bouquet of roses. He was about to knock on the door when he heard voices. He stopped to listen. Immediately his heart almost stopped beating as he heard the hush-hush voices of a couple heavily petting each other.
Astounded, he scuttled to the window his heart racing. Through the blinds he glimpsed the dark silhouetted figure of Anita, tall and slim; her lips locked with a dude’s. He watched as their lips parted and she went down on all fours and the tall dude went down behind her. He hoicked her skirt up and began tugging at his fly.
Austin froze as he heard Anita’s familiar soft cry of pleasure, followed by a patter of two lovers having a sizzling session. Transfixed he stared unbelievably as his woman made love with another guy on their one-year anniversary.
Heavy teardrops pricked his eyes, blurring his vision. As the moans of his Anita became louder his head began to spin. Dismayed, his arms dropped to his sides. The bouquet of white roses crashed onto the doormat. A tear drop cascaded down his cheek as he stood and watched his world crumble. He had loved her with every fiber of his being. Damn! He still loves her. He’s never loved anyone like he loves Anita. Never!
Austin’s body went limp. Dropping to his knees, he managed to sit on the porch, while the love-noises grew louder and rapid. Wiping his teary cheeks Austin gathered the roses, scrambled to his feet and stormed to the parking lot.....

Romance / Story: My First Real Kiss Was Worth The Wait by dosbeat: 6:43pm On Dec 07, 2016
Halloween night rolled around, and, as is tradition at my college, a bunch of the students prepped to streak across campus in nothing but sneakers and shaving cream. Ever a shrinking violet, I never took part in this, but he did. Us nonparticipants would watch the shenanigans from the safety of our dorm balconies, and this particular Halloween, I had a vested interest in spectatin’.
My roommates and I watched him run by with the crowd, and for a brief moment I wished I had the courage to run–-so very unsupported –-beside him.
I eventually slunk back to our floor’s study tent (the tent erected in our lobby for the purposes of “studying” . . . yeah, I don’t know what was up with that, either!). I heard the ringing of the elevator bell followed by some familiar shuffling steps. The tent flap unzipped and a friendly face popped in, “Mind if I join you?” I choked and giggled and nodded and he, still smelling of 99 cent shaving cream (a smell I’d cherish for years later), climbed on in beside me. We sat
pretending to read in awkward tension for a while, his knee occasionally brushing against mine (in that “OMG did he mean to do that I think he meant to do that” kind of way).
He eventually broke the silence commenting on something about relationships in his psych text book. This conversation turned to the topic of kissing (seriously, it’s like a sitcom, right?), and he asked me if I thought it weird to kiss.......

Wisdom From Grandpa
Whether a man winds up with a nest egg, or a goose egg, depends a lot on the kind of chick he marries.
Trouble in marriage often starts when a man gets so busy earnin' his salt, that he forgets his sugar.
Too many couples marry for better, or for worse, but not for good.
When a man marries a woman, they become one; but the trouble starts when they try to decide which one.
If a man has enough horse sense to treat his wife like a thoroughbred, she will never turn into an old nag.
On anniversaries, the wise husband always forgets the past - but never the present.
A foolish husband says to his wife, "Honey, you stick to the washin', ironin', cookin', and scrubbin'. No wife of mine is gonna work."
The bonds of matrimony are a good investment, only when the interest is kept up.
Many girls like to marry a military man - he can cook, sew, and make beds, and is in good health, and he's already used to taking orders....

Hello?” a person said in a totally attractive locution.

There she turned into! Pacing back and forth in the front of the flat display tv and pretending to be speaking on cellphone. She saved taking walks inside the line, frowning, smiling, guffawing and shouting at her supposed caller. “Charles, i have warned you by no means to call my range again. how are you going to be courting my pleasant pal?… Noo … No Charles. Don't be fooled by the face I wear, for I wear a thousand masks, And none of them are me. Don't be fooled, for goodness sake, don't be fooled.
I give you the impression that I'm secure, that confidence is my name and coolness is my game, And that I need no one. But don't believe me.
Beneath dwells the real me in confusion, in aloneness, in fear. That's why I create a mask to hide behind, to shield me from the glance that knows, But such a glance is precisely my salvation.
That is, if it's followed by acceptance, if it's followed by love. It's the only thing that can liberate me from my own self-built prison walls. I'm afraid that deep down I'm nothing and that I'm just no good, And that you will reject me.
And so begins the parade of masks. I idly chatter to you. I tell you everything that's really nothing and Nothing of what's everything, of what's crying within me.
Please listen carefully and try to hear what I'm not saying. I'd really like to be genuine and spontaneous, and me. But you've got to help me. You've got to hold out your hand.
Each time you're kind and gentle, and encouraging, Each time you try to understand because you really care, My heart begins to grow wings, feeble wings, but wings.

You alone can release me from my shallow world of uncertainty.....

Romance / Story: The No-name Resting Place by dosbeat: 9:26pm On Dec 02, 2016
My father and I had been enemies since my feet first hit the floor.
And I was not the only one in the family that made him mad. He never got along with my Mom or my older brother either. When he and Mom would argue, they made the house a scary place. They would quarrel for hours over the stupidest things and even take their fights from room to room. If one of them walked away, the other would follow just to get the last word in!
My brother and I would clear out of their way, trying to keep their yelling at a distance. Often we'd end up in the backyard with the cats (who escaped with us, scared that dad might kick them). The backyard was a good place to go, because as pissed off as our parents were at each other, they had this weird thing of not taking their craziness into the street. They hated to think the neighbors might be listening. If we were lucky, we'd get out through the gate unnoticed and run off to a friend's house until things had calmed down.
Of the two of them, our Mom was the nicer person. She was kind, easily gave you hugs and always tried to make things right. It wasn't that hard to side with her against dad. The problem was the situation in our house became a war—three to one—year-in, year out. Mom wouldn't or couldn't divorce him. My family never had much money—and there was nowhere else for us to go. She promised she would never leave without Brian and me.
The situation didn't change until I was 16 and my brother 18. We both had dropped out of school and had jobs. This was the time I destroyed my father's life, as much as if I had taken a gun and shot him.
He was so much older than Mom and had become weak and pathetic (but could still act up.) I was so hell-bent on hating him and proving that I could defend my mother that I didn't pay any mind to a strange sadness that settled on him. I didn't care! I was busy plotting our ultimate escape!
My brother and I had planned a savings account together, each of putting a little cash in every month. A year passed and we finally had enough money to move out. I actually found this great apartment through a family counselor at my school, and told Mom we were all, at last, going to get free...of Dad. She took some convincing but we got her to agree and she left with us...

Jokes Etc / Story: A Fat Lady by dosbeat: 9:08pm On Dec 02, 2016
Hi! How are you?” The woman smiled as she took the seat beside me. She had to lower herself slowly, squeezing her ample bottom into the seat, filling all available space.
Positioning herself comfortably, she plopped her enormous arm on our common armrest. Her immensity saturated the space around us, shrinking me and my seat into insignificance.
I cringed and reclined towards the window.
She leaned towards me and repeated her greeting in an upbeat, friendly voice. Her face towered above my head, forcing me to turn to look at her. “Hi,” I replied with obvious loathing.
I turned away to stare out the cabin window, sulking silently about the long hours of discomfort I was going to experience with this monster beside me.
She nudged me with her meaty arm. “My name is Laura. I’m from Britain. How about you? Japan?”
“Malaysia,” I barked.
“I’m so sorry! Will you accept my heartfelt apology? Come, shake my hand. If we’re going to spend six hours side-by-side on this flight, we’d better be friends, don’t you think?” A palm waved in front of my face. I shook the hand reluctantly, still silent.
Laura started a conversation with me, taking no notice of my unfriendly reactions. She talked excitedly about herself and her trip to Hong Kong to see her frinds. She rattled off a list of things she was going to buy for her students in the boarding school where she was teaching.
I gave her one-word answers to her questions about me. Unperturbed by my coldness, she nodded as she made appreciative comments to my answers. Her voice was warm and caring.....

Jokes Etc / Story: Shame by dosbeat: 5:52am On Dec 01, 2016
What Are You Ashamed Of?
Growing up, my mom often said “shame on you” when I did something she didn’t approve of. Back then it was a common phrase I heard from mothers all over the neighborhood. (As an added bonus, we also got the simultaneous index finger rubbing motion.) At the time, I didn’t really understand what the shame scolding meant. I only knew I had done something I shouldn’t be proud of.

Over the years, I internalized the negative energy of the phrase and it became part of the audio track of my brain. Got a C in chemistry? Shame on me. Wrecked my first car? Shame on me. No date to the prom? Shame on me. Kissed somebody’s boyfriend? Shame on me. Divorced my husband? Big shame on me. Gained 10 pounds? Ugh. You get the idea.

As the years went by, and the events of my life got bigger, the shame I felt about them grew exponentially. I was a pro at feeling shameful. I’d feel shame about things that weren’t my fault. Things that other people did to me. Things that I never saw coming.

What did I do with all this shame? I buried it. I never told anyone about it. I lived with it like a big, dark secret.....
