Most people using Honda are not using the right transmission fluid DW1

They would rather use oando and co

This is one of the reason for the blinking

You will see but grade pass grade.

Watch out for the engine oil burn and the faulty 13 pin gear box. That is the two major problem of that car

Car Talk / Re: Advice On Honda Odyssey by Dozieson(m): 4:10am On May 20
b4ball:

No major reason why people, mostly Nigerians prefer Sienna other than the Toyota mob mentality.

The odyssey is a far superior car in terms of handling, fuel economy and cost of maintenance. Parts are readily available like every jap vehicle, it's original parts outlasts it's Toyota counterparts. It's only downside is resale value and it's body tends to fall apart quicker than the Sienna.

3mz is currently 800k with 13pin going for 700k. The 3.5 liter engine on the odyssey is barely 350k and it outlasts the 3mz.

So you mean the majority of Nigeria population and transport companies who prefers sienna are foolish?

The op should try and consult the transport companies to get the views.

A friend told me about a neighbour that has used odyssey. He said the car troubled him until he sold it. I don't know the problem but I believe the car hardly tolerate abuses like the Toyota cars

Kindly give an advise on Honda Odyssey.
Would you recommend it for private use?
What are the likely challenges?
Would you prefer Sienna to Odyssey?
Your lovely advice will help me make good decision.
I am actually looking for a 7 seater car for family use.
Thanks 🙏

Even if someone has heap a lot of praises on the car, is it not surprising that Nigerians hardly go for it?

There should be a major reason why sienna is preferred.

1. Technical know how of car mechanics
2. Cost of maintenance
3. Fuel economy
4. Ruggedity
5. Availability of parts around your environment
6. Resale value
7. Tolerating abuse
Etc

I travelled last weekend to Benin for my boss father’s burial and I can certainly say Benin people get doings.

One of the things that caught my attention was the Toyota Yaris car being used for transportation. I made enquiry about it and I was told its around #1m.

I was relaxing after lunch break and surfing through my facebook account when I stumble on a Port-Harcourt page where they are advertising different cars.
I scrolled down and I saw 2006 model of the same Toyota Yaris car but for 650k. The body and interior seems good to me and I made a move to call the number attached only for the lady to tell me the vehicle is at Seme Border after Badagry in Lagos. She said I can come for it or I pay 35k for fuel and it will be deposited to my door step.
Sending anymore is totally out of it for me because I don’t trust anyone but I have some weird feelings about it all which I will like you to kindly enlighten me on. My fears and concerns are;
1. Is that how cheap cars are right now or is it because its at the border?
2. Will I be duped if I pay the 35k or I should trust the process?
3. How safe am I if I travel down to the said location for the car?
4. Can I possibly get a Tokunbo car at that rate anywhere in Nigeria?

Kindly give me your candid advice please. Thank you

Car Talk / Re: My Car Steering Keeps Shaking, What Could Be The Problem Please?? Thanks..! by Dozieson(m): 9:01am On Apr 15
Ritchyevan:
The noise increases mostly on bad roads/bumps and potholes.. but when on highway, kind of goes away completely..
It’s noise, the steering itself gives no issue, the turning and everything is perfect.. it’s just that noise that comes out of it.

thought it was vibration/shaking according to the topic. Have you confirmed the noise is coming from the steering? This requires physical examination from a very good mech to avoid repairing what is not faulty

Hi everyone, I bought my car(Camry 2012 XLE) a little over 3 months ago, and I’ve been having little issues ever since, the most annoying is the fact that my steering wheel keeps making one funny noise like that… my personal mechanic told me that the steering knuckle needs to be changed, while another mechanic said the gear cup needs grease… please advise, I’m confused.!

is it noise, shaking or vibration that is the issue? explain better.
if it shakes while acceleration from a stop, then it could be warns inner cup/cv joint. This part requires some good expertise no anyhow mech to avoid gear damage
if it shaking at high speed, it could be bad tyres or wheel balancing issues

Good morning Mech. Doctors in the house.
I'm having issues with my 2002 Toyota Sienna. It recently starts having issues changing gears. I was told the ABS machine was bad so I changed for about 40k+ and it works fine for several month. I noticed a leak under and beside the drive shaft so I took to mechanic to change the seal and things now, there is no leak any longer but my car wont change gears again. I had to drive the car on low speed to a nearby gearbox engineer to resolve. He told me the ABS machine is good that all I'll need do to avoid disappointment is to change it to Pebble or Bebble and that'll cost 50k. Pls has anyone experienced this before?

Note: I usually travel to Warri from Ibadan atleast 3 times in a month.

The mechanic has contaminated your gear. i believe the shaft was removed during this seal replacement. You may be lucky it works well again if you flush the oil and replace with original WS.
or scan to see the codes. share the codes here

Yes there's improvement. The only issue that's major to me is the abnormal revving I experienced if the AC stays for long in the afternoon, causing the oil light indicator to be blinking. If I off the AC, the car will normalize. Don't know what's causing that?

Oil light blinking is related to sludge in engine, failing oil pump. This is an engine issue. Try check to avoid issues

Thanks Chief for quoting. I resolved code P2716 last Friday. An electrician found out that one of the connector pin in the harness of the gear connector was rusted. He changed the pin(connector), voila code is gone.

For P0037, I have changed O2 sensor still no show. I'm tired of ladipo guys. When I rest small, I will face it

Is the car moving well now? Is the gear issue still there ?

I just bought a Toyota Camry (tiny light) from someone. He advised i should change the transmission oil to a popular oil because the oil inside isn't that popular in the market after he changed the gear box. Is it necessary to change it as advised??

changed the fluid because it was dark brown and also experiencing hard shifting into gear 4.
shifting is okay from 1-3 and reverse.

Car now engages in D, but fails sometimes except i switched the car off and on.

The Repairer said i should buy another gallon of the Type-IV fluid and he would mix it with one litre of engine oil . This is giving me concern
.

Thank you all for your responses

It is your mechanic that killed the gear. Are you sure they have not mixed something with the type t-iv?

Please change the mechanic

Just be managing the gear like this or change the fluid again with original type t-iv

Hope the fluid is also on the required level

If you have the money replace the transmission

No code at all. The only mil light on the instrument panel is that of airbag. No any other fault detected. Yes it is km and not miles. For those that know the distance between Yola and Bauchi, one full tank would barely cover this distance

Set your odometer A or B to zero then fill your tank. Get the reading after tank is empty. That will give you the exact distance covered.

Your full tank should be about 70-75ltrs

Are you sure it is km or miles? Your Camry is calibrated in miles not km

1. Visit #2 to the dealer. This time they put the shop foreman on the job (very experienced guy they said ). The problem was a ground wire attached to the intake manifold. Problem fixed, no CEL light for a week. No additional charge from the dealer.

ground wire as stated above

2. Faulty oxygen sensors or its harness/wire. Try and replace if need be to see if there will be improvement

3. You could use an original fuel cleaner to improve the situation. Buy the one in metallic container

you have to be patient while going through these steps one after the other

again, check if your exhaust in leaking. Catalyst has been removed

3things could be the reason here;

1 The station u bought fuel from might have tampered with their metre

2: U might have run on AC all through the journey

3: Your style of driving ( maybe aggressive or high speed driving)

However, 69miles for 14.8-15L of fuel is very economical if i may say

The engine is 1.8 liters o. This is on the high side
