lost connection. so could not post in time. @buluti, babyosisi, davidylan since u guys have already made up your minds about islam, i dont think i need to offer answers or explanations as they will still be ridiculed. I actually wanted to pass across what islam truly is to u but it seems like those questions were asked just to get answers u would still pounce on and make mockery of Islam. Also, particularly at babyosisi - i am not a sunni, not a shi'a, not a wahabbi. I am a muslim. I am proud be a muslim and to be called muslim. and i wont hide my face when muslims are called to stand up for no reason whatsoever. BECCIA: My brother, the teachings of Islam are consistent with religious pluralism and muslims are cohabiting peacefully with people of different religions over the world. An example is southern Nigeria, Other parts of west Africa, China, Russia and you name it. A person who cant tolerate another religion is not a muslim. BECCIA: Islam is not a religion of only Arabs, it is a universal religion. the salvation of mankind. If an Arab has volatile temper, it is his nature, not because of the religion. I am not an offspring of Ishmael but i am a muslim. ishmael didnt form Islam. Islam is a way of life to be lived in the light of Almighty Allah. BECCIA: We should all pray that the spirit of violence should be tamed in Nigeria. I believe it is about the people, not about religion. We should all pray to secure our future. This will be my last post in this thread. I clicked on it to read it because it touched my heart and the first thing that came to my mind when i saw it was, "Oh God, these people are at it again, when is this going to stop?". I will conclude by saying these killings are absolutely wrong and i sincerely sympathize with the families of those who lost their lives. I might be mocked and criticised, but there is no point in posting the truth in a thread only to come back and see my religion dragged in the mud. which is really painful. very painful |

@davidylan if i didnt read your blog, i would have had another impression about you. i would not want a full scale argument to o develop here because the points i will raise might annoy others. so give me permission to hook u up on yahoo chat. Also, I cant just sit down at my computer and explain things like this. The subject matter of the desecration of the holy quran is a sensitive topic with which i have to converse with people, study the hadith and fatwa. I would be committing sin if make any statements contradicting the hadith. Also, killings are equally not sanctioned in the Quran and neither should they be done in the name of Allah. |

egoldman: I feel very sick and disgusted when i hear these kind of news whereby some sick useless people commit atrocities and still say they are muslims. the quran clearly condemns violence and also sectarianism. Its is clearly shown in the verse below that any one who forms a sect from islam is no more a muslim. In the Name of Allah, The Benevolent, The Merciful And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other). But people have cut off their affair (of unity) between them into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself. But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time. Do they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons We would hasten them on in every good? Nay they do not understand. Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; Those who believe in the Signs of their Lord; Those who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord; And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear because they will return to their Lord It is these who hasten in every good work and these who are foremost in them. On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged. But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are besides that deeds of theirs which they will (continue) to do Until when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world behold they will groan in supplication! It will be said: "Groan not in supplication this day; for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us. "My Signs used to be rehearsed to you but ye used to turn back on your heels" "In arrogance: talking nonsense about the (Qur'an) like one telling fables by night." Do they not ponder over the Word (of Allah) or has anything (new) come to them that did not come to their fathers of old? Al-Quran, Chapter 23 Al-Muminun, Verse 52-68 you can get more quotations at http://path-to-peace.com/sects.html I also implore people who want to learn about islam (not people with intention to condemn) to surf through path-to-peace.com. |

@buluti and babyosisi i have note posted a reply to ur question because i'm still trying to put together a good explanation that would put you beyond doubt about Islam's stance on using violence to defend it because i know even after i answer the particular question. others are still coming. @davidylan since you have made up your mind about ALL muslims as fools who foolishly follow a religion that openly proclaims violence and live their lives whilst satisfying their inner desires through the shedding of blood, i dont think u deserve any explanation whatsoever. I will like u to always remember this. humans have always been commiting atrocities against one another and in the process looking for moral justification for. there was a time in england and other parts of europe when women were burnt at the stake simply because they wore men's clothing especially trousers. there was a time when soldiers killed people on the streets just because the pope was passing by and they were blocking his way.i hate making comparisons but i just have to tell u this and let it dwell on your conscience. |

@stimulus you should understand when one is younger and older people want to give you a reason for not not doing something properly. if they explain to u as is, u might not really understand. now that she's older and she knows why she should keep her quran well, do u think she still does that because of the fear of koboko? when u were 5 years old, did u know why u were going to school? i really want this to end here so another chain of argument will not start. |
Religion / Re: Gombe Muslim Students Have Put Me In Sorrow By Killing My Friend by drixie: 9:53pm On Mar 31, 2007 |
babyosisi. i hope u dont mind if i answer ur question. The Quran is a holy book containing all the laws as regards to living your life as a true muslim who believes in Allah. As such, u should keep it holy and free of all acts of desecration. Its true you can get it from bookstores but as a muslim, you should take appropriate care of your own quran. anything any other person does with his or her own is his own business and they will face judgement from God. But the problem with people especially we africans is that we tend to overact about things. the man in the aeroplane u mentioned could have just done it so people around would know he's so serious about his religion. theres nothing wrong in simply telling your co-passenger that ur quran is in the bag and u would like to remove it. most of these things depend upon personalities and people's insividual intelligence. when i want to travel, i envisage the fact that someone's baggage might be placed above mine, so i put my quran in a small bag i carry in my hand when i'm travelling. simple as ABC. at least, no one would put his bag or sit on a bag that is in my hands. Personalities matter. I will urge and implore all nairalanders not to judge a religion based on the acts of some foolish people. |

First, I will offer my sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of this woman who lost her life to these cold - blooded animals. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. I will also try to correct some notions here. I am a Yoruba muslim from Ogun State who happen by the worst of ill - luck to be schooling in the North. The problems we have in Nigeria are not religious. they are basically borne out of tribal sentiments. most of what these guys have incorporated into their version of Islam is their culture and islam has become the means thru which they cover their atrocious acts. the main goal of the northerners is to take over the entity called Nigeria that was forged by the british and this is reflected in Sir Abubakar tafawa Balewa's statement before the british handed over in 1960, "I pray you people leave soon so that we can continue our interrupted conquest to the sea". As such, every form of atrocity meant to discomfort other nigerians especially in their lands has been perpetuated. I can state here that the Nigerian Northerners are not practicing Islam (i dont mean all). I've been there and I have witnessed it and i'm still witnessing it They kill Muslims from other parts of the country in their so called fights to purge out infidels. A mention was made in that article of a similar incidence that happened in Bauchi in february 2006.it was just the same thing that happened. only the corper involved was adequately protected. I was there and it wasnt funny. Yoruba Muslims were killed as much as christians. The State government had to compensate the local NASFAT branch. This is basically a Northern problem, once u are from another part of the country, the only thing is for u to hope and pray you dont get killed because the only people who would have come to ur aid would be scared. these people dont dare touch other northerners who are not Hausa. Remember what happened in Jos the last time. It wasnt a religious problem as everybody has been led to believe. it was a head on clash between the Hausa and the native people of that local government. there was killing and maiming on both sides. Also, those people you call little SS1 children are street urchins who have been forced to go to school. I have an uncle who was invited to the wedding of a JS2 student of his. A man who sells oranges in the market marries four wives and gives birth to so many children he cannot cater for and pours them out on the street with little bowls to go and gain Islamic education by begging off people(isnt that insane?). isnt that enough to get a child frustrated and harken to the voice of people who feed him everyday to kill someone else? this is a very good tool which some of their politicians employ in disturbing peace. This same man who has four wives and plenty children he cant cater for would divorce his first wife and marry another young girl to produce more children. You have to be here to believe it. There was a guy who washes my uncle's car (the guy's job from office) every day. My uncle gives this guy cash gifts most times he comes around beacuse of the dirty tattered form he appears in. my uncle stopped giving this guy money when the guy invited us to his wedding - with his third wife. and his job is just washing cars. The North has the highest percentage of Indian hemp smokers (believe me). Indian hemp is placed in kiosks near your normal chewing gums. I've seen a policeman barter hemp in a market in broad daylight. Islam is a religion which preaches peace. basically.full stop. if anybody calls himself a muslim and says someone should be killed for touching the Quran, ask him why Prophet Mohammed (SAW) allowed some travelling christians to pray in his mosque. People who commit atrocities around the world under the guise of Islam are just tools Shaitan use in defacing Allah's religion in the faces of the people. and they shall definitely be punished on judgement day This activities are not what Islam preaches. If they are, i would have stopped being a muslim. If i wasnt in the North too, I wouldnt have understood. I sincerely plead with people like davidylan, stellose and babyosisi to be calm. I know that everyone has a right to be incensed. I read the story myself and I was shaken. If you want to know about islam. tell me and i'll gladly talk with you on chat. please, dont generalise muslims as bad people or islam as a religion of blood - thirsty human beings. if anybody has questions. i'm still around. note: not all northerners are so - called monsters. there are stories of some who harboured their yoruba and hausa neighbours during the bauchi crisis and got their houses burnt. remember the principal too in that article. May Almighty Allah forgive me if I have made any mistake above. |

Webmasters / Re: Who no Phpbb by drixie: 10:31pm On Mar 25, 2007 |
jozzy: Firstly, you will need to set up the SQL database. To install phpBB, you will need the following information from your SQL database : 1. Server Hostname / DNS 2. Database name 3. Database user name 4. Database password After doing this, you are then ready to upload your download of phpBB, which you can get from HERE. Acknowledging the fact that you have downloaded an extracted it to the folder that you want it. Then, simply upload that folder onto your public area of you webspace. *Note* All image files should be uploaded in binary mode, and all other files in ASCII mode. With the files uploaded, you will now need to change the permissions of the file 'config.php' prior to running the installation so that the script can write to the file. You will need to set the permission to 666. You are now ready to actually install the phpBB forum. Now point your browser to the path which may look something like http://www.yoursite.com/phpbb/install/install.php. Now comes the part with the Database you created. Database Type Field : Select the database type you are using making sure it is the correct version. You will now need to enter the database information : 1. Server Hostname / DNS 2. Database name 3. Database user name 4. Database password If unsure, ask you web provider / host. Prefix For Tables In Database Field Unless you have any specific reason to change it, (eg. multiple installations of phpBB) the default table prefix will work fine. You will now need to enter the email address where as an administrator, you will receive various notifications in the course of running the board. Now create an admin user name and password. You will use this to login to the administration panel and manage the board. Now hit the Start install button. You are now almost done, now go back to the ftp client, and change the permission of config.php to 644. Now press the Finish Install button. You will then get a message saying 'Please ensure both the install/ and contrib/ directories are deleted. Do this via your FTP client. This is a very important otherwise you are leaving a serious potential security issue which may lead to deletion or alteration of files. Well done! You have now succesfully installed phpBB on your site. Now you can login as admin to start configuring your board. Typically, the login URL will be something like http://www.yoursite.com/phpbb/login.php anymore questions? get me at sydneycollins3@yahoo.com |

8oracle: bluevoda is quite easy to use. In fact I like it a lot after dreamweaver. add sydneycollins3 to ur yahoo list and we can talk better. just indicate who u are. the only problem with bluevoda is its creates the html files in such a way that u have to host with them (with .bvp extension). but this can be bypassed though with a lil extra effort. igwe4life: where do u get the food images in ur nigerianchef blog? can i use them please? |
