Events / How To Throw A DIY Lockdown Party by dunayodawodu(f): 3:34pm On May 19, 2020
Hi there,

So has the lockdown been spoiling your plans to throw a party or has it even spoilt it. Sorry if it has ( I wish i had pit this out earlier) but hey who knows, there just might be another party coming up. The good news is you can do it yourself and you do not have to break the bank to make your birthday celebrations/anniversary a memorable one and picture perfect, you can even use the lockdown as an excuse and just save some money (you didnt hear it from me o). So there are different ways you can have a DIY lockdown party but today i’ll be sharing three ways.

Firstly, you can have a mini picture backdrop slash cake area in your home. To acheive the perfect backdrop for your party, you will need balloons, fishing line, scissors, tape, table, table cloths, cut-out signs/props, desserts and of course cake, there is no party without cake. To create this backdrop you can use a plain wall, the window blinds or you can print/ buy a backdrop. First you place the backdrop on the wall using the tape(you can get backdrops online or print at your local brand printers), place it in such a way that its a little above your head. If you don’t have a backdrop you can just go ahead and paste your cut-outs on the wall, especially if it’s a child’s themed birthday, or just the plain wall ,there are really no rules just make it look nice, then blow up your balloons and tie them up in twos (this will make it easier to put on the string). I advice you get a lot of balloons so has to make up for the decor and make everything look nice(please stick to a set of colours that go with the theme or that match, don’t go and start doing colour riot o, except its rainbow themed), you just cant go wrong with balloons, balloons can be used for adult parties too. Now carefully put them on your ‘fishing line’ string and use the string to twist around each pair of balloons, just keep clustering it up and don’t bother about the form it will come out nice( or just google ‘organic balloon garland’ and see how its done). After all the balloons are on the string, now place it at one side or corner of the backdrop, window or wall( find a way to make it seat well eith by using tape or tying the ends of the string to near by things). Don’t forget your cake table, this is actually optional but like i said, there is no party without cake. Go ahead and lay your table, put your cake on a stand and some desserts (home made or store bought) to add colour to your set up and boom, you are all set, dress and take pictures.

Another way to celebrate is to turn your dinning to a luxurious restaurant and treat yourselves to a wonderful three course dinner. This will be perfect for couples anniversary or your spouses birthday, basically not too many people except you want to be running in and out of the kitchen. All you have to do is get the meals ready, bring out your fancy dishes, you can also have some wine and some scented candles to set the scene and you are good to go( If its your Anniversary celebration you better put your kids to bed). For the three course meal, here are some suggestions that won’t stress you. For your first course, you can have chicken, meat or fish peppersoup. For your main course, you can have coconut rice with honey glazed grilled chicken, and for dessert you can have icecream and cake.

The third way i’ll be sharing today is a Zoom Party. I recently attended a zoom party and i thought hey, this is not as stupid as i thought it was. It was a landmark birthday and the family basically wanted to celebrate with friends and family. The good thing about a Zoom party is that you can celebrate with as many people as you want to have with no significant cost implication. The not so good part is that alot of work has to go in the background if you do not want it to be dry and a total waste of time, and ofcourse internet connection (if you live in a third world country like mine, Internet connection is a major concern). Prior to the D-day you should 1. Schedule a zoom meeting and send out invites to people you want in your party so they can plan, 2. Draw up a program of event and pick someone to anchor it, 3. Prepare a slide show/presentation of pictures or memories you’ll like to share with friends 4. Prepare a game that will engage every one, For example you can have a list of questions about the celebrant and have people answer them or friends can also share memories with the celebrant. 5. Get your cake and decor ready. On the D-day, set up your background, set up your camera with good lights and speakers please and get the cake set, then you are good to go, you really don’t need food for this one lol.

So that your easy to do DIY lockdown party ideas, let me know in the comment section what you think if you like it or if you tried it out. Bye
