Earlier this year, I purchased a used 2005 Toyota Corolla sport model. The car initially seemed flawless and had undergone thorough inspection by mechanics, as my knowledge about cars is limited. However, about a week or two after adding a catalytic converter to enhance emission reduction and fuel efficiency, I began encountering issues with the vehicle. Initially, I noticed excessive smoke emanating from the exhaust, which was attributed to the O2 sensor. I replaced the sensor, but the problem recurred within a couple of days of light usage. Returning to the mechanic, another O2 sensor replacement was undertaken in the hope of resolving the issue. Unfortunately, the problems persisted. I observed diminished power during acceleration, frequent misfires, and consulted my mechanic about these concerns. Their response was that I should adjust my expectations, as Corollas are not known for being overly powerful. Adding to the turmoil, the car's timing went awry just two days after the sensor replacement. This led to a series of repairs, spanning from timing adjustments to addressing issues with the oil pump, cylinder head, and timing chain slack. Eventually, these repairs seemed to restore the car to working condition. However, the vehicle's problems persisted. It continued emitting black smoke, burning through O2 sensors, exhibiting vibrations when the AC was turned on, and consuming an excessive amount of fuel. All of these issues emerged within a mere three months since I acquired the car, leaving me deeply frustrated. I sought advice from various sources, including a reputable mechanic who suggested that the issue might lie in the car's brainbox (ECU). Nonetheless, conflicting opinions have arisen, with some arguing against this diagnosis. The accumulated stress from spending a significant amount of money on repairs without lasting solutions has left me weary and unsure of what steps to take next. At this point, I'm desperate for an accurate diagnosis that will guide me toward the right repair path. I had initially intended to use this car for my business, but I haven't even been able to rely on it for everyday use, let alone launching my business endeavors. Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. |

Hello evryone, I wish you all a great week ahead. Please permit my grammar if you find any. I have a Toyota corolla 2005 sport which bought earlier this year used. The car was perfect in all sense and was tested by mechanics as I don't know much about cars. After about a week or 2 I decided to put catalyst converter on the car as to reduces emition and improve fuel economy as people told me it helps. After I added the catalyst that is where I believe my issues with the car started. First, I started to noticed excess smoke from the exausht, which I was told its the o2 sensor. I changed it and then it happened again this time I didn't even use the car up to 2 days. I took it back to the mechanic and he said he will fix it which we changed the o2 sensor again. After this smoke and o2 sensor issue started I notice I loose power in acceleration and my car seems to misfire more frequently which I complained to the mechanic who said I should be "managing my car like that" and said corolla are not too powerful. After 2 days pf changing that sensor the car jumped timing which the mechanic told me. Long story short it went from timing to oil pump to cylinder head to slack of timing chain which I fixed everything and the car seemed to be fine again. Now the car still brings black smoke and is still burning o2 sensors and vibrates when I turn on the Ac and in all this is heavily consumes fuel like its nothing. All this happened within 3 months of buying this vehicle and I just tired. A somewhat prominent rewire told me the brainbox is the cause that it's fault and that's what is causing the issue which some other people are telling its not the brainbox that is not possible for the car to keep functioning as it is if its the brainbox. I am seriously tired I don't know what to do I have spent a considerable amount of money on this car yet I am still facing issues with it. Right now I just need a proper diagnosis so I can make the right repair. If you guys can help me I will be grateful I bought this car as to start my business and since I have not been able to even use it for normal use let alone start the business. |
