I have read this thread from the 1st page to the last (though it took days to finish), i must comment that this thread has highlighted virtually all points needed to acquire student visa from CDHC, i so much appreciated the contributions of the veterans like delta007,hotstepper,debosky,mevisbleek,wonderbod,charlie,ayoalade,adewale,rare,harryman,tosinosho,obietrix etc. I came across the thread when trying to apply for canada student permit and i must say it has helped me a lot to prepare for my student permit, i have little questions to throw out before i take the next steps, I have my offer letter already from Laurentian University in sudbury Onatario and i was asked to make a deposit of $500(refundable with the proof of refusal letter from the embassy).@all i will like to know if i can proceed with the deposit and secondly i will like to know if the university is well recognized in canada.Lasly i will like to tell you little about how i will like to proceed with my student permit application to the embassy, My brother will be sponsoring me and he has been to canada before in late last year and he told me that he has already filled my name in his application form when he was applying for the canada visiting visa but the problem is that there is mistake in the name he wrote in his application form (he wrote RILLWAN instead RIDWAN as it is in my international passport). Please advice what to do about that, can he still be my brother or he should say he is my uncle?? There is an arguement here which i will like you to advice about as i think it will help other applicant that has made a mistake by using fauged documents, the arguement is that is true the embassy compare the document you submitted to the school with the one you submitted to them?? if so,how do you think they do the comparisom ?? Is it possible for a university to give you an admission with you having mathematics(cancelled) with good grade in furthermaths and all other science subject and intended study course in canada is COMPUTER SCIENCE?? Pease some should try and answer my questions as i think it will some other applicants, I look forward for any swift response.

@  reloaded11 - I was fortunate to be a student studying Neuroscience at Laurentian University in 1995/96 session. While Laurentian is not as big as most other Canadian Universities, it does stand as a reputable university considering it's location in the largest city (Sudbury) in Northern Ontario. Sudbury is a wonderful place to study as it keeps you away from the distractions that are common in larger cities. The one year I spent at Laurentian before transfering to University of Toronto was one of the best highlights of my academic life and I do occassionally regret leaving the institution - that's my own personal experience of Laurentian and Sudbury.

With regards to your brother as a sponsor, he can certainly sponsor you as your brother. You can always explain the reason for the discrepencies in the names (Rilwan and Ridwan), should that come up as an issue. But I don't see that being an issue since your brother does not live in Canada and since you're going to be assess on your own merit not on your brother's visitation to Canada. All you will have to provide is a proof of your ties to your sponsor (in this case your brother), and that he's willing to sponsor you throughout the duration of your studies.

With respect to your last question - if I understand what you are getting at - I will advise that whatever you do, make sure that you do not, and I repeat, do not submit any documentation that will give the Canadian Visa office any inclination that you're not being truthful. Even if's going to be not getting the visa this time aroun

Even if's going to be not getting the visa this time around, make sure all of your documenations are legit and there are no discrepencies.  If you don't get the visa the first time, you can always try again but you have better chance of being considered if you have legit documentation rather than forgery. So, be very very careful not to give any reason for the immigration officer to be doubt the authenticity of your submitted documentations

So, whatever documentation you submit to the school for your admission process, should be exactly the same that you will be sending to the visa office. Hope this answers your questions
