A 17-year-old endangered western lowland gorilla was shot dead today after a 4 year old boy slipped into its habitat in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was visible that the boy was in danger as Harambe dragged the little boy through the water. The Zoo's Dangerous Animal Response team had no other option than to kill the Gorilla in order to save the child. According to the statement released by the Zoo's director, Thane Maynard on Facebook, said they had no other option than to shoot Harambe, as using a dart might anger the gorilla which would worsen the situation or using a Tranquilizer may not have swift effect on Harambe to save the little boy.

This sad event left residents of Ohio and the rest of the United States in grief. Negative response trailed the internet blaming the Zoo administrator for not properly securing the animal habitat to avert any unforeseen dangers. Some blamed the mother of the child for being careless not to have kept the little boy in sight. While others were of the opinion that the zoo would have employed other means than to lethally kill the gorilla.
