"I am disappointed for him and for others, as Antoine was not the only one to deserve it."

Argentina’s senate has rejected a bill to to put into law elective abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

Lawmakers debated for more than 900 minutes and voted 31 in favour to 38 against, despite the fact opinion polls showed the legal abortion bill had strong public support

The lower house had already passed the measure and President Mauricio Macri had said he would sign it.

Rejection of the bill means that abortion remains legal only in the case of rape and danger to the life of the woman.

Pressure from the Catholic church prevented its approval, according to female activists who supported the bill. Argentina  is the homeland of Pop Francis.

“The church put pressure on senators to vote against the bill,” said Ana Correa, an original member of the #NiUnaMenos (“Not one woman less”) feminist movement that supported the bill.

“I’m still optimistic. It didn’t pass today, but it will pass tomorrow, it will pass the next day,” said abortion rights supporter Natalia Carol, 23. “This is not over.”

Argentina’s Amnesty International director, said: “A survey we did this year showed 60% support for an abortion law.”

Senator Dino Melaye who was attack by unknown gunmen in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja Thursday morning, it has been confirmed that the Senator has been abducted.

Melaye’s abduction was disclosed by Senator representing Bayelsa East in the National Assembly, Ben Bruce, via his Twitter handle.

In a tweet, Bruce disclosed that Melaye’s brother, Moses informernor Ortom dump APC as he join PDP

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has invited the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu over alleged money laundering.

The anti-graft agency, in a letter of invitation dated July 24 and signed by the Director of Operations, Mohammed Abba, it invited the Deputy Senate President to report to the commission’s office Today, Tuesday for “ clarification.”

In the letter, the EFCC said it was “investigating activities case of conspiracy, abuse of office and money laundering.”

According to the letter, the EFCC said, “this commission is investigating the above mentioned case in which your name featured prominently and the need to obtain certain clarifications from you became imperative.”

It went further to say that, “In view of the above, you are kindly requested to report and interview the undersigned at 5 Fomela street, Off Adetokumbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II Abuja on Tuesday 24 July, 2018 at 10am prompt.

It said, “This request is made pursuant to section 38(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes(Establishment) Act, 2004.”

However, despite the letter of invitation, the EFCC and a team of policemen took stormed and occupied some positions of the official residence of Senator Ekweremadu, in the Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja in the early hours of Tuesday which the Deputy Senate President is billed to report at the commission’s office.

A 38-year-old mother of three has been killed by her lover after he found condoms inside her handbag in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The victim, identified as Gladys Okoh, was said to have parted ways with her husband before she started dating her killer, Osarwinda Idumwonyi, who was said to have stabbed her thrice with a kitchen knife inside her aged mother’s room.

The incident happened at 13, Ehiyoboy Street, off Aifuwa Street, off Upper Sokponba Road, Benin, few hours after she allegedly left her lover’s residence, where she had passed the night, not far from her mother’s home.

The suspect is currently in Police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Benin.
The suspect was alleged to have walked past the deceased’s aged mother, who was sitting by the door, and attacked his lover.

A source at SCID disclosed that the suspect told the Police that it was her deceased lover who first picked a kitchen knife to stab him when an argument ensued, but that he overpowered and killed her in self-defence.
