Pls is it the norm that people who get SP approved are invited for a meet and greet on behalf of the Canadian High Commission. Or does this happen randomly? Any other person invited or had such experience before? What do they even do during such event because i have not heard of it before.
Pls does anybody have an idea what this is about? I have not read about anything of this sort on this thread thats why im asking. i dont know what the implication will be if one does not attend.

ebimila,

You need to inform CIC pertaining your change of institution, endeavour to have already enrolled and secured an acceptance letter from the new institution where you're currently heading. Once your TRV is approved, you can change to any institution of your choice, you mustn't wait until your study permit is stampped on your passport before doing that.

Use the below link:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools/account.html

Yes! You can get refund of fees from previous institution but there will be an administrative fee attached to this like 1000$.

I have acceptance letters for both schools. I plan to touch down in Toronto first and i expect SP will be issued at the airport. So i thought it would be better to go to conestoga inform them of my desire to switch with the other acceptance letter as evidence, before proceeding to calgary. Should notifying CIC be by mail? Because i used a representative and all correspondences were handled by the my Rep.

House i need a guide on how to go about changing college. i have acceptance letter from conestoga and BVC for September. My preference is BVC because its a 2yr program and also because i have family there. However i processed my application with Conestoga acceptance letter and TRV has been issued. Planning to leave for ON, CA early august and get SP issued first at boarder control before going to conestoga to notify them of by desire to change as well as see if i can get refund for fees of first semester paid. Has anyone had to do this? I dont know if i will face any challenges; i also do not know how i can formally notify CIC at this stage. I have been advised to ensure i get my SP first before i do anything else. Can anyone offer advise from experience pls..

Very nice!! Do you care to tell the house the process of judicial review? Did you hire a lawyer in Canada and how much? Once those judicial review are granted and they are rarely granted, you know an interview is only formality.

Well i did get the paid services of a lawyer over there in Canada on my case. Its basically a legal process whereby the lawyer does the entire paperwork (filing applications, hearing etc). The process is in 2 stages...Application for Leave & JR. Quite expensive imo and not a route many people consider because of the uncertainty.

It been quite a while i visited this thread. But reading your post i instantly was able to connect. Its been a journey since 2016 for me but today im thankful its over and ended in praise. 2 study permit refusals in succession, 1 successful JR which took like 7months after which judgement was granted in my favour for application to be reviewed by another VO, like a month later an unexpected maill for interview in accra after which TRV was issued in less than 10mins. Noteworthy program is a PGC in HR. All the accolades to God Almighty. Be encouraged by brothers and sisters.

Asihanmi:
2nd study permit refusal though I have requested for GCMS note.
Just trying to analyse the 2 reasons on the rejection letter: family ties in Canada and home country and purpose of visit!
Never stated I had family member(s) in Canada in any of my documents ,know I've got distant cousins and we are not close .

I do not think I will apply a third time(in my own thoughts it's not worth it may mean desperation to them).

I have been struggling with express entry process stucked with IELTS. Don't want to go through the asylum route that is being recommended to me despite having canada visitor's visa because of WORK PRESSURE (Naija banking craziness...). I believe asylum may not be the best route for a family person.
Honestly, don't know what to do at this juncture.

Suggestions are welcome from the family.

How's Australia and Netherlands PR process like?

Thanks to everyone in the house, this forum was really helpful.

Passport request May 05, 2017
Passport received May 10, 2017
Approved May 10, 2017

Thanks to everyone
I applied from Poland.

I almost gave up about studying in Canada because I had stories about challenges applying outside Nigeria but someone in this forum encouraged me, even when I find it difficult to provide a good SOA. All I provided was my retired dad's statement with just 500k. Though the PhD is funded but just approximately 17CAD per year.
To those still awaiting approval never give up, I would also help with prayers am also available to help review SOP, this would reduce the burden placed on the gurus in the thread.
Congratulations. Keep the rest of us in prayers.

Why not chill till maybe 15-17th may, if a decision hasn't been made, you decide. Use this period to discus all possibilities with the school you paid fees to about defering again, they will best guide you.

Also note that you can change programs once you arrive canada. All these can only be achieved when your study permit is approved. So wait and take advantage of the time to get other options for yourself so you don't lose in totality. A decision hasn't been made yet on your application and your decision moving forward will be dependent on the outcome.
thanks for the advice. I will keep up with the wait but whatever happens I have to take decision before 19th which according to the school is their deadline for refund.

Hello People. I have a scenario here. Perhaps someone can help out.
I am yet to receive an response (approval) from cic even though its still within processing time (14 weeks going) for a program with start date of May 8.
However, i plan to change institution as i have a preferred option (admission) in another province for August this year too. So meeting up with the initial mandatory registration and orientation procedure is not an issue. But i still need to get to the first school (if visa is approved) to effect the change of institution as well as get refund for 1st semester tuition. The refund deadline on their website is 19th May. i am worried that the delay may frustrate these plans and i dont want to loose money that has been paid. Although im still waiting but i considering the possibility of deferring the first program to buy time. Another issue is that i have previously deferred before and i dont know if that would be possible. Meanwhile, the other program starts in August. Pls what can i do?
pls I need advice

Pls house...what is the difference between ones' study visa application been denied or delayed. I understand if denied, CIC sends a letter to this effect but in the case of a delay (eg. when you are yet to get a response as at start date of program). Can this be termed that you have been denied?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by ebimila: 1:05pm On Mar 13, 2017
Exactly! i was hoping all things falling into place i can get a refund to add up for my tuition in the other school. Even if i have to for go a little amount but at least getting a reasonable amount will go a long way. But all the same i really appreciate all the contributions so far.
CannyZionist:

You are very right bro! But remember the person in the story you just quoted didn't have to ask for fee refund as in the case being discussed. The OPs worry is not all about changing schools, but getting his refund.

wow! valuable info. Many thanks..
Austinpee4:

Just like you've been advised already, wait till your study permit is approved first before you start worrying about every other thing. While we must remain hopefull about our application, you should wait till a final decision is reached.

As for school changes, i responded to a kinda similar post on this but his was 2 different programs with different levels. Two major conditions of a study permit is that you are enrolled and actively pursuing your studies on an outgoing basis while in canada. So if you need to change your program/school you make sure you meet these conditions.

I heard a story of someone that applied for a study permit with uni of alberta offer letter(master)and got admission to a program(master) he loved in uni of manitoba and wanted to change. What he did was he paid his full tuition and 'ENROLLED' in university of manitoba(this meet the condition on a study permit) got to the border in canada, Showed CBSA uni of manitoba offer letter and proof of fees payment and enrolment, got into canada and then notified CIC of a change in DLI.

So i'll advise you wait till you get a final decision on your application before you proceed with anything.

contact ur school as regards the refund, dont wait for TRV to com out before you ask for refund, the two are noway dependent on each other so go ahead and request for it.
@ eraytee...i used the acceptance letter from the school for my visa application which is still in process. How do cancel the admission and ask for a refund? Please i really need to understand how this works. The program starts in may but the other one i just got (which is a preferred option starts in August). I need the money to make up. Again, how can i change school and at what stage do i notify cic. Please friemds, i need answers. God bless you all.

Hello People..I used an acceptance letter for a PGC in Ontario to process my study permit for May 2017. It was initially for Jan 2017 but i had to defer when my application was denied. However, i got another admission (still PGC) in Calgary for August 2017 which is preferable cos i have family ties there and settling in will be a lot easier for me. My question... is it possible to change DLI with CIC. I have made a deposit of 7000CAD already. Whats the possibility of getting a refund if i change. I am considering this with the expectations that my application will be granted and i can use the money to offset part of my tuition in the Calgary. Please i need advise from the experts in the house to guide my steps towards achieving this.
Please can someone help out.

I totally agree with you bro. My question is ....how do i go about reapplying after a previous refusal. I used an agent before but how do i reapply on my own...im talking about steps to follow reapply on my own. I have already received the gcms / caips notes as shared earlier on this thread
successtouch:

since you have located this forum you don't need any agent, and is not a must you must have anybody in Canada, and also using an agent is not a guarantee your visa will be approve, and also note most of the challenges and problems some people in this thread are facing especially with misrepresentation of information were caused by agent. first settle in your mind that you can do it on your own. if you can have that settle in your mind, the you begin your success journey. and note people just like u came and did it on there own. and must of them are in Canada today. so the big question how do you start?
1. get an admission from either a university or college in Canada. and note the course you are applying for must be related to your either your first degree or work experience other wise, your visa will be refuse base on purpose of visit.
2. package your visa application very well. expecially if you are going for either a postgraduate diploma or certificate program.
3. then be ready to wait. patient is d key to dis Canada visa journey. note. during your waiting period every mail wen enter your mail box go dry cut your mind.
but most importantly we are here for you.
what program are you going for?
masters or postgraduate?
any work experience?
who is your sponsor?
and what program did you do during your first degree? answer to these questions can give us a clear direction of helping you.

Hmmmm, this your caip file contain wella o. grin grin grin grin
1. lets analyse what the V.O meant by "PA's career history" what is your employment history like?
1a.@age 40, what have you been involved in since finishing your undergraduate study?
1b. Any education or career gap? if any, did you explain what you've been doing during those period?
Another thing the V.O will likely consider is "why going for PGC/D at that age", what have you been doing since your B.sc degree? A very good and well-detailed employment history and proof of various certifications will do justice to that. Because at that age, one should be thinking of either Phd or career advancement of such.
2. "personal circumstances and family composition"
2a. I don't know what your personal circumstances as probably contained in your S.O.P/L.O.E/L.O.I/ are, but permit me to ask the following questions
2ai Are you married?
2aii Do you still have parents?
2aiii Do you have siblings?
2aiv who is your sponsor and how is s/he related to you? a family? if you're self sponsored, thats okay.
3 "The expenses related to proposed study and the reasonableness of undertaking these studies in Canada"
3a. I think the V.O is trying to see why you're not making the decision of studying this course in Nigeria which will save you more cost rather than opting to going to Canada to study the course which will obviously cost you much money.
How did you try to convince the V.O as to why you choose to study this course in Canada? have you checked various institutions in Nigeria that are offering this particular course and the reason why you feel going to Canada will be better than studying it in nigeria?
*hint- 1. compare course outline for the course as it is offered in canada with what is obtainable in nigeria, if there is any variation, cite them
2. Because of advise from a friend or senior colleague that has took that course outside the country and advising you base on what is obtainable in the outside world as compared to the case in nigeria====my 2cent.
4. "After consideration of the information provided, i am not satisfied that proposed studies in canada make sense given insufficient information on how proposed studies would improve career prospect to a degree that would offset cost of studying in canada instead of pursuing programs available in country of residence"
4a. Hmmmmm, to the bolded, you have to justify the relationship between HRM and your undergraduate course and how it stand to benefit you career wise.
*My humble opinion
Thanks so much for the analysis. Will try and address a few issues you raised. But first thing first, I will say I did a letter of Intent which looking back now I would say was weak. Not detailed enough. Im married, 4 kids, No parents (Though I didn’t mention this but I know they have my records – cos I have visiting visas for us –expiring 2018 and Canada- expiring 2019). Got lots of siblings, sponsor is spouse. Just think my defense was poor, not detailed enough. Yes, expected I should be going for master or phd but I could also decide to have a career change which is the case. And of course, chances of staying back legally if the opportunity presents it self. The relationship btw the HRM and undergraduate course may also be the issue. But i still want to try again.

Hello House,

Please i have a quick question. When you track your application and it keeps saying "Visa application, tracking ID No.xxxxx is being processed at the Canada Visa Office" even till now 2 weeks after you have gotten a refusal letter. I used an agent and i expected the status to change after the refusal but its still the same. Dont they update the status? I trying to understand how the agent got a response on my behalf, not that it matters so much now.

I dont think there anything too serious to it. In my case, i did a mail to the admissions office requesting for deferral explaining that my visa application was refused. I also attached the refusal letter. Got an auto response mail acknowledging receipt and got a deferral in less than a week. I guess it would depend on your reason for requesting for a deferral.

I agree there aren't too many options.... But still, there are!!
Pls do an extended research on this and consider some well aligned PGDs.... Social work... Community & justice services..... Correctional workers.... and the likes (just thinking).
When you put up an application using any of these.... your SoP will complete the job for you.. Sound it loud that the PGD is a progression to achieve your LLM.
But trust me, don't defer on that same HRM!

Thanks alot and permit me to say most encouraging advise so far. I do appreciate very bit of advice so far...i have really not thought in this direction even though i have come across some of these courses whilst doing my research... I actually deferred admission till May as i has paid for a semester but your advice is extremely helpful
