Education / Prizes To Be Won In Essay And Logo Design Competition For 3rd SITEI Conference by ebubay(m): 2:12pm On Sep 22, 2014
As part of activities towards a successful event and to raise awareness on the opportunities, prospects and challenges in the Extractive Industries, organisers of the 3rd Sustainability in the Extractive Industries (SITEI) conference, CSR-in-Action have called for entries for an essay and logo competition from interested members of the public.

The competition, which is in two categories: Essay and Logo Design, comes with a laptop prize and an opportunity to speak at the conference holding on October 24 at Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island for the winner of the essay category. The runner up wins a laptop and a chance to attend the conference, while the third-placed entrant will go home with a laptop. The best three logo designers also win laptops and special invitations to the conference.
According to CSR-in-Action’s Executive Director, Bekeme Masade, the essay, which is titled “Driving Local Content in the Extractive Industries: Opportunities and Challenges”,is a good platform for youths with a strong desire to see positive changes in the extractive industries to proffer lasting panaceas to the current challenges in the sector. She added that essay submissions should concisely review and analyse the effectiveness (or lack of it) of current government initiatives, the challenges and the prospects in addressing the issue of increasing local participation in the sector.
On the logo design category, Masade said entries must creatively reflect relevant themes like the ‘extractive industry,’ ‘local participation’ and the ‘economy’ in the design. . The CSR-in-Action boss added that essay entries should reflect the theme of this year’s SITEI conference, which is, “Local Content Participation, Accountability and Transparency.”
The SITEI conference is an annual event organised by CSR-in-Action which addresses the challenges of local entrepreneurs, job seekers, policies and critical issues surrounding the implementation of quality local content participation in the Extractive Industries, while proffering practical solutions towards improving entrance, accountability and transparency in the sector. Expected at the highly anticipated event are industry captains and key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
Essay entries must have a minimum word count of 1000 and maximum of 2000 words; and set in Calibri 12pt, double spaced format. Submissions must not have been previously published or broadcast in any format, and authors must have full copyright ownership of their entries. Entries are to be submitted to workshops@csr-in-action.org; or uploaded to our matchmaking page here and winners will be announced on October 18.
Details of the essay are available on www.csrinaction.org/SITEI2014 and leading online platforms
