Music/Radio / Do Upcoming Artists Really Need A Video? by ed23bello: 3:19pm On Oct 15, 2015
The Nigerian music industry of today has taken a new dimension compared to the days of old when music artiste will simply go to the studio, record a couple of songs and then have the Radio & Alaba mixtape to promote them only without the need of a music video .

The trend of the days of now is music video and this is fast becoming another challenge for the up-comers who have little or no fund to finance a music video . Some directors charge from #1 Million naira minimum for a music video while top celebrity directors charge as high as 10 Million naira. When the up-coming artiste think of the cost of a music video they get frustrated to pursue their career while others fail to see the need for a music video . But believe me I have seen good music videos on satellite channels and from my research some of these videos were produced for 100k on the low side . I know this for sure if the director have passion for his work and love the song you are shooting a video for he will work with the budget and deliver well, but still remember the popular Nigerian saying “Better soup na money kill am” .

Video is a great way to increase brand awareness about who you are and what your tone of voice is. Some people are slow listeners. That’s a given. When faced with the option of listening or reading through a block of text that breaks things down in a straightforward, visually exciting manner, plenty of people will choose the video. Although frequently referred to as a visual medium, video is much more of a sensory experience. When beautiful images combine with effective sound design or emotional music, a video has the potential to engage with audiences.

Having a music video can help promote your band, through video sites such as YouTube and blogs like this one . As well as by getting exposure on satelite television. Video is a good way of getting exposure and experience and brands are often happy to give you a creative free reign. A video doesn’t need to cost a fortune what’s important is having a good idea and working within your budget. So the question of if upcoming artists need a music video is a YES.

Music/Radio / Femi Kuti Ft 2face Idibia & Sound Sultan – Politics Naa Big Business (remix) by ed23bello: 1:46pm On Jan 21, 2015
Afro Beat legend Femi Kuti releases the remix to his lead single Politics naa Big Business off the album “No Place for My Dreams”, this remix features new school legends 2Face Idibia and Sound Sultan.

In the midst of the election season Femi Kuti in his accustomed fashion passes a strong message to Nigerians. With the hopes of making them aware that the welfare of the country lies in their hands and that they should make informed decisions in choosing a leader who will put the people first and in the long term eradicate corruption.

2face and Sound Sultan show solidarity and share the same message in what they have highlighted to be a landmark to both their careers. They rebuked the trend of voters choosing their preferred candidates on the terms who gives them a brown envelop or bags of food and encouraged more informed decision making in casting their votes.

Politics naa Big Business remix is uniquely composed and sees the best of both worlds as Femi Kuti delivers an Afro Beat masterclass with 2Face and Sound Sultan surpassing expectations composing their verses. This is Femi Kuti’s first release since penning down an exclusive management deal with Chocolate City last November.

Politics / #ourheroes Trending As Nigeria Marks Its Armed Forces Remembrance Day by ed23bello: 7:24pm On Jan 15, 2015
Now trending On twitter is #OurHeroes .

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual event to celebrate fallen heroes as well as veterans who sacrificed their lives as they valiantly fought in and through the first and second World Wars, the Nigeria Civil War and peace support missions. These men laid down their lives in the service of Nigeria.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is marked annually on the 15th of January in Nigeria. The event was initially marked on the 11th of November (popularly known as 11-11 or POPPY day) so that it coincided with the World War II Veterans’Remembrance Day in the British Commonwealth of Nations. It had to be changed to January 15th in memorial of the surrender of Biafran troops to the Federal troops which took place on the 15th of January 1970 and brought an end to the Nigerian Civil War.

In preparation for the event, a national planning committee was inaugurated earlier (on the 20th September 2013) by the Federal Government. They were charged to work tirelessly to make the event a remarkable success.

Other activities to mark the event include the emblem launch and pledge to assist the Nigerian Legion by Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime. There were also cash donations by the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Securities and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Immigration Service in the state to support the Legion. The celebration will get to its peak on the 15th January, 2014 when wreaths will be laid to honour fallen heroes.

Music/Radio / VIDEO: #buharishowyourcertificate – Nigerians Make Hilarious Viral Video by ed23bello: 9:48pm On Jan 05, 2015
I saw this hilarious video online which seems to have been inspired by the latest scandal involving the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.). The former head of state was asked by INEC to present his academic qualifications as part of the criteria for contesting the election. Instead, the retired general presented an affidavit stating that all his certificates were in the custody of the secretary of the Military Board. The video seems to be a subtle protest for Buhari to produce his certificates for Nigerians to see.

Music/Radio / Becoming A Good Artist Manager ,knowing The Hit Song & More by ed23bello: 1:13pm On Nov 17, 2014
A lot of artiste out there are looking for good managers but can’t afford to pay for the services & most of the time they end up falling in the wrong hands . Most people claim to be managers but are only there to mis-manage the artiste & care for their selfish needs instead of focusing on the artiste career they party with the artiste everyday & spend promotional money on drinks and many other un-necessary things but then lets look at who a manager/talent manager is .

A manager is the person who handles all business aspects of the act’s career. The manager is the person who consults with the act on decisions and deals with the other members of the team on behalf of the act. The manager is in charge of the day to day running of the business for the act, including promotional strategy, ,accounting and making key career decisions for the act. The general purpose of the manager is to handle all aspects of an act’s business so the act is free to concentrate solely on performing & making good delivery . This topic centers on both becoming a good manager & also the challenges faced altogether . Many people have the talent, some have more than others do, but being successful in the music industry is based on more than just talent.

From the Wikipedia definition it says ” A talent manager, also known as an artist manager or band manager, is an individual or company who guides the professional career of artists in the entertainment industry.”

Patience | Communication | Building Relationship | Publicity

Be prepared for setbacks and brace yourself for recovery . People will disappoint you, especially those you depended on . Give yourself a good self-assessment by looking at the strengths you have and how you will use those to the best advantage of yourself and your artiste & remember under every circumstance, act and be professional. Always see your artiste as the key to your success ,believe so much in him/her for things to work out well ,stay humble & honest .

Managing an artist’s career requires patience and understanding of that person’s behavior and attitude. The music business is one where egos thrive, with many trying to be “somebody” or trying to assert that they already are somebody . it is necessary to manage around the ego of another “The Artiste”. The biggest problem in Managing an artist is when the manager him/herself is arrogant and ego-driven but thank God that’s not a problem in the Nigerian music industry .

Managing an artiste requires a good communication skill, that is interacting with people of all personality as you are bound to come across different people with pleasant & some unpleasant behaviors’ In most circumstances . Remember Leadership is an important skill of a Manager at the beginning of an Artist’s career or at the beginning of the Artist-manager relationship.

Build and maintain a network of contacts, that means calling on your contacts for assistance when you need it but it also means offering help when they don’t expect it. Building a very good relationship with Promoters & the fans is a key factor to success . The influence of an Artist Manager on the early planning and development of an artist’s career is what helps the artist develop a focus and an organized purpose. It is important for the manager to keep good relationship with Booking Agencies/Promoters and key Media people. If your phone calls are not returned or your emails not acknowledged, it is not personal, it just means you haven’t developed the perception that you offer something that will improve the other person’s business

Publicity is another important professional tool in assuring an act’s success. You the manager need be the publicist but it’s advisable you hire a Publicist or PR (public relations). A PR person is responsible for getting every tidbit of publicity about your act to the media whether it be Online Promotion ,TV, radio, magazine or newspaper. He will work closely with you the manager to obtain exposure for your act through Publications, interviews, press releases, and personal appearances for promotional considerations. Every time an act’s name is seen or heard it plants a seed in the mind of the reader, listener or viewer.

Networking

Take charge advantage of the social network & see that your artiste is doing well most especially it’s very wrong of your artiste who’s face is yet unknown to be dropping songs without his ‘her face on the art . Even 2Face uses his face till date for his promotion & also does promo cd’s & promotion except if your artiste is dead Ugly please use photoshop or you can then use write up’s as cover design .

Knowing the Hit Song & Brand Visibility

Don’t just jump into the conclusion by saying a song is a hit song just because you like alone . Don’t be selfish but watch & observe the expression of the listeners & ask for the sincere opinion of people you know most especially & those you don’t know also . A wack song can sometimes become a hit song as people make fun of it . A hit single that is on high rotation online ,on radio and tv attracts the attention of promoters, meaning the manager no longer makes calls for bookings, they automatically come due to the artist’s popularity and relevance. A hit song must not be a danceable song like Iyanya’s kukere, let take for example Banky W’s “Strong Thing” , Wizkid’s Holla at your Boy , Patoranking’s Giriie O . Now take for instance Sauce Kid (Sinzu )“ You Don dey Madt” & then you will agree with me that it was a very unserious song that made a hit . You as a manger should not just drop a song for your upcoming artiste same day you know a star act is dropping his/hers ! Know when to drop the song .

If your artiste stage appearance is weak, hire a choreographer to help him/her but not advisable for a start up artiste with little or no financial support .

There are so many other required skill which can be self discovered & challenges also such as funding .

Music/Radio / Reasons Why Most Nigerian Up-coming Artists Fail And Others Succeed by ed23bello: 1:02pm On Nov 16, 2014
So many artiste wonder why they don't get to succeed in the Nigerian Music industry and most times they feel they are cursed not to succeed but trust me if you work wisely (work hard) & take advantage of every positive opportunity you would be just more than your expectation.

Currently record labels are going through a lot of challenges as many signed and successful artiste ask for Cars, houses forgetting the most important thing which is Promotion .

After these record labels have spent a lot of money to get the artist to limelight and successful at the end of the day these artiste back out of the record deal a year or two with the mindset of been cheated upon with the percentage share & with the feeling of “YES!!! I can do it now alone they can go f*#k themselves and stop making money from my effort” but they forgetting the spotlight opportunity that was given to them by these record label while they were ripping off the effort of the label boss or whoever believed so much in them & gave them the Spotlight . They probably would have been in the same upcoming artiste level till they finally give up . Now that’s not the issue though let me outline some important issues why most Nigerian artiste fail ..

Finances

Many artists are under-funded .Sometimes this is a result of lack of funds to begin with. Sometimes it is because the available funds are not spent wisely. Successful artists know that they need to constantly invest and reinvest in their act. They establish a budget and stick with it. They raise capital if it is necessary, whether it comes from investors, crowd sourcing, a loan or some sort of enterprising venture. If they are not good at managing their money, they hire someone who is “A Manager” . They do not let money, or the lack of it stop them.

Many artists quit too soon. Maybe they have had some success and so they stop doing the things that got them there. Many just get tired of wasting time, money and effort, when all the while they have started creating the kind of buzz that can lead to much bigger and better things. Successful artists refuse to give in. They are determined to figure the puzzle out. They measure the results of their efforts so they see and work to capitalize on even the smallest amounts of progress.

Talent

Many artists think they are talented enough to cut through the clutter and stand out among the millions of other artists competing for the same fans. Successful artists work tirelessly at their crafts and strive to be the absolute best songwriters, performers, musicians etc. They are always looking for ways to improve, both individually and as a group.

Uniqueness

Many Nigerian artists are trying to be the next like 2face,Timaya, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage,Patoranking, etc instead of creating a sound and look all their own. Even though they may be incredibly talented, nothing about them distinguishes them from the artists they hear on the radio or the multitude of similar artists vying for attention. Successful artists know that the best way to stand out from the crowd is to be unique in as many ways as possible, and they work hard at it. They also know how to build a brand around their uniqueness.

The Work Ethic

Many artists are not willing to do the behind the scenes work that successful artists do relentlessly. If you ask them they will simply tell you this “No record label” but then go back and see the reason why a label is scared of signing you above . You as an artiste may be waiting to be discovered but trust me you have to first create your own success by making plenty of effort like

Get a good producer & record your own song with your money .
Attend shows and beg for a spotlight by performing because you just don’t know who is watching.
Make a promotional CD ,branded most importantly and try getting it to people that are successful in the Industry or Promoters & Deejays . Branded CD’s shows the level of the seriousness in you.
Get yourself online & make push out promotion ,disturb with your song.
You don’t believe in Talent Hunt so you don’t attend ,Please change your mindset .
READ THE REST BELOW

What to do? How to do it ?

Many artists are willing to do the work but don’t know what to do. Many don’t know where to even start & most importantly are afraid that they will do things wrong so they don’t do anything. Remember not doing anything gives you nothing also . They undergo challenges like marketing, performing, songwriting, legal issues, recording and other important facets of their careers. Successful artists do their homework and tap into experts who help to guide them. They study the ins and outs of the industry. They learn to make wise decisions. Most importantly as an upcoming artiste find a mentor(s) or coach who will guide you .

You Need A Manager!!!!!

Without been told you know you need a manager to handle your career in every way .

Many artists act unprofessionally, or just don’t have a pleasing personality. They don’t treat others with respect. They are not on time for gigs, rehearsals, photo shoots, interviews or anything else. They are oblivious to other people’s feelings, egos, needs or desires. Successful artists always act in a professional manner. They are personable, so people want to be around them and help them succeed. They know that this is what it takes to earn the respect of their team, their fans and the industry.

Many Nigerian artists have no idea who their fans are. They can’t tell you with any sense of accuracy their biggest fan demographics like age, gender, income level, where they live, what their occupations or hobbies are etc. Successful artists know their fans and everything about them because they interact with them. Many conduct surveys and contests to extract demographic information that they use to select the merch they sell. They use that info to know what to write songs about. They track where the people who visit their website are coming from so they know where to book gigs.

Many artists are bad communicators they don’t keep their fans informed about the shows they will be performing next .

Ineffective Efforts:

Many artists think they are doing the right things, but for some reason they are not hitting the mark. Some of the reasons for this are that they are not doing enough, are doing the wrong things, are doing things wrong, are missing some of the pieces or do things in the wrong order. Also included in this list are the artists who do things for the wrong reasons. Many just throw everything against the wall to see what sticks. Successful artists know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, where to do it, and how to get the most from it.

Building Relationships

Many artists do not take the time to build relationships both in the industry and with their fans. It’s very important you build relationship with promoters & your fans . Yes even with your money some will have you begging them to feature your work but if remember success is your aim . Successful artists do both, and they know how to keep and continuously deepen those relationships.

Team

Many artists try to do everything themselves ”One Man Mopol”. This may be because they want to retain complete control, or it may be because they don’t know how to put a strong team together. Often no one wants to work with them because they don’t have anything happening. Successful artists know how to make themselves attractive to key team members. They know how to assemble a powerful team and keep them engaged.

Become Unpredictable

Many artists get stuck in ruts and never climb out of them, becoming stale and predictable. This can become evident in their music, their stage show, the look and feel of their marketing, they way they dress and everything else they do. Successful artists are always adding new dimensions to themselves. They keep everyone curious about just what they are going to come up with next. They not only watch the trends, they either jump ahead of them or set their own. They find ways to become pioneers. They avoid stagnation by constantly reinventing themselves, all the while remaining true to their fans and their brand.

Packaging .

Many artists look like amateurs. Their promo materials, if they have them they are not attractive. Many don’t dress appropriately, especially for shows . Successful artists know that everything about them and everything that represents them has to make them look like they are in the major leagues. They never settle for ‘good enough.’ They hire experienced graphic designers to create their online and print marketing. They dress like businesspeople when it is appropriate. They know that their biggest competitors are doing the same!

There are countless more reasons why some artists fail and some succeed. Pride,Timing, unforeseen circumstances such as illness, lack of family support, etc.

Music/Radio / Don Jazzy,d’banj,banky W,oba Omega ,linda Ikeji When Will You All Get Married ?? by ed23bello: 1:20pm On Aug 23, 2014
Now i know you would say it’s none of my business but yes when it comes to Naija Celebrity business it’s my business!! when would these rich celebrities get married ? They post pictures of them attending other people’s wedding like that of P Square,Tiwa Savage & even the 2face who we all know have the baby mama drama got married and yet we’ve not yet even seen a photo of their girl friends online .

d banj

Let’s start with D’banj and the whole koko mansion & Genevieve drama can he tell us that he has not yet made enough money to get married or has not seen any beautiful girl he want to get married to or ogini sef ? Mr Oladepo D’banj please get a wife you have it all .How’s being single going to work out for you when you’re 60, when you have hair in all of the wrong places and no one can stand to look at you? Marriage is an investment in your future. Sure, you sacrifice some of your sweet single years,

Don jazzy

Don Dorobucci Don Jazzy is time to be the complete Doro boss by adding a wife (Winkx) [#RunsAway] . But on a second thought have you ever seen his girlfriend or heard about anything like don jazzy in love affair with any girl . Don Jazzy is the #1 music producer in Nigeria & currently the richest with lots of endorsement deal. You can agree with me that Don Jazzy is the most friendly celebrity of all even his twitter account & instagram + giving out his number online is enough to make you see how friendly he is unlike some celebrities who go blocking almost all thier fans on twitter and instagram & go hating on another celebrity getting all the award [#LipSealed]. I also heard Don Jazzy loves his privacy a lot but still on still i know you would say Tiwa Savage is a woman but Dr Sid is a man also . Please Don Jazzy Complete the Dorobucci by adding a madam .

Banky w

Banky W chairman EME even your boy Wiz Kid now has a child though not yet married so who are you waiting for ? Niyola ? but then technically you don’t need to be married to have a family, but marriage is still the standard method for starting a family. The nuclear family, despite its flaws, remains a sought-after model.Being a father is a dimension of manhood that just about every man wants to experience — and marriage is the most stable and secure environment in which to start a family. Yes nobody would die together with you as you said in Jaiye Ori Mi but boss forget yarns no hating please get married Jare .

linda-ikeji-pictures

Linda Ikeji is popularly known for high class gossip on her lindaikeji blog & if you noticed she keeps update on single & married people ,as a matter of fact if 2face impregnates another babe she would be the first to tell you . Okay linda we know you like Big Abunna as you keep talking about Sex Sex Big Big Abunna in your blog but to think of it you no longer a girl you are bosslady so please make mama & papa smile with a grandson (in Don JazzysVoice) . One-night stands are exciting because of the thrill of the chase, granted, but often — too often — once the two of you get naked you find yourselves fumbling and bumbling unable to anticipate each others’ moves and unaware of what gets the other off. Married couples know each other; they have a feel for each others’ bodies and are aware of their partner’s fantasies. Consequently, married sex is better than single sex. Further, a long, stable relationship lends itself to sexual experimentation. Admit it; there are things you’d love to try in bed that you’ve never told anyone because you were afraid of being judged. But in a long-term relationship founded on trust, you can give voice to your innermost desires.

oba omega

Oba Omega popularly known for winning numerous music award from South South artiste of the year to many more others & known for owning Nite Club’s in Port Harcourt . Yes we know you are the Police Ambassador & Tourism Ambassador in Rivers state but still on still we waiting to see who you would take to the altar call it forever for worst . One of the ways that getting married improves your life is by making it last longer. Various studies have indicated that happily married men tend to outlast their single counterparts.
