Elon Musk has his hands full after acquiring a stake in Twitter while also running Tesla and Space X.

According to the IBC (Insurance Bureau of Canada), auto insurance fraud and theft cost Ontario residents nearly $1.6 billion. In the United States, approximately 814,400 cars went missing in 2020. 724,872 in the previous year, an increase of 11.8 percent.

CBC News worked with local car dealers in Lagos, Nigeria, to send a team of undercover investigators who discovered a fleet of cars suspected of being stolen from Canadian driveways and shopping malls.

The most stolen vehicles in Canada, according to IBC, are the 2017-2019 Honda CR-V, 2017-2019 Lexus RX350/RX450h, Toyota Highlander, and Dodge Ram 1500.

The investigation team discovered two stolen Honda CR-Vs with dealer stickers from Montreal. Both appeared in the system as "possibly stolen" after a simple VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) search.

The details of a 2018 Ford F-150 Pickup truck were also returned as "possibly stolen" from Ontario, as was a Lexus RX350 that still had its Ontario license plate.

Natalie Cara, a theft victim, shared CCTV footage of her 2020 Lexus being stolen at night with CBC News. The robbers took 20 minutes to steal her new car. Another victim was shopping in a mall when she lost her brand new Honda CR-V.

All it takes, according to the CBC News team, is a lock picking device and a programming tool that costs less than $1,000 online. Car thieves in Canada, according to Canadian authorities, also use a "relay attack."

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) command announced yesterday that it generated a total of N51.63 billion from imported used and new vehicles between January and March 2022.

This is due to the promotion of 3,466 general duty and support staff officers to the next rank.

According to DC Timi Bomodi, national public relations officer, the promotions were approved by the Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) at its 54th Regular meeting on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022. Muhammad Yakubu, the command's public relations officer, previously stated in a statement that the amount collected for the first quarter of 2022 is 10.2 percent higher than what was collected last year.

According to him, N46.85 billion was realized in the same period of 2021, representing an N4.77 billion increase in the months under review.

Yakubu, on the other hand, stated that the PTML Command's customs area controller, Compt. Festus Okun, lauded the feat and described it as evidence of productivity on the part of the officers and men despite operational challenges.

The comptroller went on to say that the Command will always uphold its responsibilities of revenue collection, smuggling suppression, and trade facilitation.

He urged importers and their agents to take advantage of the Command's quick clearance capabilities by remaining compliant at all times by making genuine declarations and following all existing rules as outlined in the Customs and Excise Management Act, import and export prohibition lists, and other documents of instruction.

The CAC also urged officers to be unwavering in their duties, while thanking them for their tenacity and promotion of cordial relationships with stakeholders, despite recent strike action over Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) valuation.

Okun also stated that noncompliance is more expensive because it can result in seizures, arrests, detention, demand notices, and penalties.

He claims that compliant traders receive timely and cost-effective services from the NCS and other regulatory, security, and intelligence agencies.

"As a model port, we deal more with Roll on Roll off (RoRo) cargoes," said Comptroller Okun. For compliant traders, we have always maintained a four-hour clearance time. I am urging all of our PTML-using importers and agents to take advantage of our seamless trade facilitation capacity.

Meanwhile, Bomodi stated that the minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, who also serves as the Chairman of the NCS Board, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, who presided over the meeting, emphasized the importance of discipline and instilling a work ethic based on transparency and an all-encompassing reward system.

According to Bomodi, the comptrollers are "S.A Bomoi; A.A Anthony; BO Olumo; CK Niagwan; MM Tilleygyado; and MC Ugbagu."

Today, April 4, 2022, represents a change in the Federal Government's Covid-19 protocol for entering Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee for Covid-19, Boss Mustapha, has advised.

Any fully vaccinated inbound passengers to Nigeria do not need to take any pre or post flight PCR tests or rapid antigen tests.

In the new protocol document, any child under the age of 18 is classified in the same category as a fully vaccinated adult.

The unvaccinated and partially vaccinated must have a PCR test 48 hours before departure, as well as the 2 and 7 day post arrival PCR tests, at their own expense.

All inbound passengers, regardless of vaccination status, must register online at the Nigeria International Travel Portal (NITP – https://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng).

All passengers departing Nigeria are "encouraged to have evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19; comply with the COVID-19 guidelines of their destination or transit countries; and familiarize themselves with the COVID-19 travel requirements of their destination and transit countries prior to embarking on the journey."

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is taking a 9.2 per cent stake in Twitter. Musk purchased approximately 73.5 million shares, according to a regulatory filing Monday. According to the Times of London, Toyota may cease manufacturing in the United Kingdom due to a government policy mandating a rapid transition to fully electric vehicles.

The company expressed its concerns to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps about the plan's transition phase, which prohibits new gasoline and diesel vehicles beginning in 2030. While hybrid vehicles will be permitted until 2035, the report suggests that requirements may include a minimum electric range rather than Toyota's self-charging hybrids.

According to the report, the United Kingdom's Zero Emission Vehicle mandate imposes targets requiring a growing percentage of automakers' new sales to be zero emission models beginning in 2024. Those who do not meet the target must pay a penalty or purchase credits from competitors who do.

On Saturday night, a middle-aged man, who has yet to be identified, was crushed to death by a truck that fell off Ojuelegba Bridge in Lagos.
The man was driving a Honda Accord when the truck crashed into it.
He was found dead in the wreckage by rescue workers.
It took some time, according to witnesses, to get the man out. But when he was found, he was dead.

In Ojuelegba, accidents caused by falling trailers or unlatched containers are common.
Because the bridge lacked side rails, four such incidents occurred in the previous 12 months.
Several Twitter users chastised the Lagos State Government for failing to take action to prevent avoidable accidents.

Porsche is donating one million euros to help people in Ukraine affected by the humanitarian crisis, 750,000 euros will be donated to the UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe e.V. (UN Refugee Aid), a long-standing Volkswagen Group partner that provides critical practical assistance on the ground. The funds are being transferred directly to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, which has been operating in Ukraine since 2014.

Kia has decided to produce more EVs, with the company planning to launch 14 new battery electric vehicles by 2027.

The new plan also includes the introduction of two electric pickup trucks, one dedicated to electric pickup trucks and the other for emerging markets. An entry-level BEV is also in the works. Beginning in 2023, Kia will release at least two electric vehicles per year.

The first is the EV9 large electric SUV, which debuted as a concept late last year. According to Kia, the EV9 has a driving range of approximately 335 miles and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than five seconds. The EV9 will also have OTA (Over the Air) and FoD (Feature on Demand) services, and it will be the first vehicle to have Ki's "AutoMode" autonomous driving technology.

Kia expects to sell 160,000 BEVs this year, but by 2026, that figure is expected to rise to 807,000 units, and 1.2 million by 2030. It anticipates that electric vehicles will eventually account for 45 percent of its sales in Korea, North America, Europe, and China.
