Health / Exclusive Breastfeeding Does Not Make Breasts Sag; It's A Myth by eDokita(m): 2:05pm On Jul 25, 2018
Considering the wonderful bond you create with your baby when you breastfeed is like no other, but it makes me sad to hear today from women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant that they intend to bottle-feed their baby because they have been warned, usually from their Mothers, that breastfeeding causes droopy or saggy breasts. Also women who are even in support of exclusive breastfeeding seem to accept that the choice to feed their child naturally with the best nature can ultimately sacrifice the firmness of their breast tissue.
It should be noted that whether or not a woman exclusively breastfeeds her child, the breast will still fall later in her life when it is time for the breast to rest.
Addressing the misconception that exclusive breastfeeding leads to sagging of breast, the fear of sagging breast does not apply because it is natural that it happens whether you breastfeed or not. Young mothers need to know that what is natural is natural and cannot be changed. The breast is basically meant for breastfeeding babies and this should not be changed. God has given women for that purpose and must be used for it.
The notion that breastfeeding could cause breasts to sag has done the rounds in hush tones among mums-to-be. Your angel suckling your breasts for months on end can result in issues like sore nipples, but saggy breasts is not one of them. Pregnancy seems to be the real culprit. Post pregnancy, enlarged mammary glands shrink, leaving you with an aftermath of saggy breasts and stretch marks. The number of pregnancies and age affect the amount of sagging.
Importantly, young mothers need full support of their husbands, relatives and the society at large. Everybody should all be committed to promoting exclusive breastfeeding that is nothing but breast milk for the first six months. This would serve as a facelift for lactating mother and therefore ensure healthy of babies across the world and for nursing mother who exclusively breastfed their children, it helps to reduce the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
Health workers should maintain the right attitude as well as a good relationship with nursing and pregnant women in order to ensure that exclusive breastfeeding was sustained and correct the misconception about breast sagging for exclusive breastfeeding
