This injustice must stop. It was a sad experience...I just came back from training oversea...with the hope of getting promoted to the next level. Then, the laying off started as redundancy. I see my colleagues come to work in the morning and before lunch time they become ex-colleagues. No pre-information, no discussion of the redundancy package and the labour law on redundancy was neglected. This laying off continued for 2 consecutive months in 2015 1st quarter until the management came to address us that it has stopped so everyone sh concentrate on their work.
All of a sudden, I was working wit a colleague of mine, then the manager called him...I didn't know wat was happening until I asked my team lead wia is X he said he is with the HR. I became weak cos when we see another going tru a blue line walking wit d manager,its means he or she has been called. It was demoralising...as if u are been led to the slaughter house. I never knew it was my turn. I told my team lead that I cnt concentrate now since I was just informed abt my team mate. He asked me to take some rest.
After some minutes, I noticed my supervisor was restless...I returned back to the autotrak drilling tool I was working on...was actually carrying out pre-test. My supervisor passed again...asked me wen will I finish d test... I told in few minutes times. He left. Later, he came back bt didn't say a word to me..he passed was going toward the exit door I was wondering why he just going up and down. Little did I know that he wasn't comfortable telling me or calling me to let's go to the HR. Yea, my supervisor really liked me. We were closed and good friends. Bt he got to do as instructed. He beacon on me from the exit door to come. I told my team lead that boss was calling me....i innocently went to meet him....i was thinking he wanted to tell me to calm down as my team mate has been issued redundancy letter...because we were close. So was thinking that's wat he wanted to tell me. Lo and behold he didn't say a word bt gave a sign to follow him. As we came off the exit down via the restaurant towards walking to the administrative block, I knew the time has come. Within me, I asked God y...I didn't get any response. We got to the administrative reception he signalled I sit den he left. Few seconds latter,the door to the slaughter room flung open, I see my team mate who we were working together before he was called came out, behind was the manager...he called by my name to come in. He led me into the cold room...room were no one wish to come in...room full of disappointment...room wia d company neglect respect for rule of law and dignity of labour. I saw my HR standing beside my overall manager in my division for africa while my nigeria manager stood behind me like a bodyguard. I was seated and the story began....'sorry, it's nt ur fault...the oil price is down bla bla blaH...I was given the letter to read...and sign...I was asked if I had any question....sure, I asked wen will I b called back, d HR cudnt give a definitive response....i signed off and left. I was calm in the cold room bt wen I got to my office I cried...I didn't because of wat happened....i cried y God allowed it. Coming back from training, full of life...full of expectations...well positioned to shared my experience and deliver....all was just cut off....i feel betrayed though...bt it's all good. The pay off was peanut..believe me....its was just one month in liu...den my salary for that month...and refund of my shares....its was absolutely poor compare to wat my other colleagues from other geo market even within africa..like Congo wia collecting....i wouldn't wanna mention other competitor like Halliburton and Schlumberger.
This court case is a means of seeking redress. It is an avenue to let companies know that there is dignity of labour....and where they operate there are laws of the land. Bakerhughes nigeria made a terrible mistake that was y wen they realise we hv taken them to court, they started calling some of us for a contract job in dubai and middle east..d offer was tempting though bt wasn't convinced in their sincerity. I was called and I got the email too, I saw the conditions therein...it wasn't wat I cud accept...they asked me to drop the court case,and sign some documents that Bakerhughes was never owing me in any way...blah blah blah.....i replied them day if they can settle my lawyer the fee I was supposed to pay him @ the end of the court case...bt I got no reply back. I see this move from Bakerhughes as a plough to dis-stabilise us. Bt, they hv failed.
I wish other of my colleagues too would write their own peculiar situation for all to see the treatment that was meted out...some were escorted out from the facility wit security personnel ...some were called from the rig...some were @ home relaxing after coming back from the rig...some were tricked from their sick bed to come to the office for emergency meeting...its appalling!
That is my story...am very fine,doing great...bt that MONEY they are owning me (redundancy package)must fall on me. God help us. Well said guy. [color=#990000][/color] shocked
