The protection wraps + carton used cost = #500
I gave the post office staff a token #400 to facilitate quick dispatch ( this is Nigeria).

Politics / BREAKING: Governor Murtala Nyako Impeached by Adamawa House of Assembly by eespunge(m): 1:35pm On Jul 15, 2014
Embattled Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, has been impeached.

The governor was removed a while ago as the state House of Assembly deliberated on the report of an investigative panel that probed allegations of financial misconducts against him.

Earlier, the state Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari, resigned from office to avoid being impeached.

Mr. Ngilari’s resignation letter was read at plenary by the speaker of the Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, after which the lawmakers approved it.

The House is sitting today to consider the report of the seven-member investigative panel, appointed to probe allegations of financial impropriety against the governor and his deputy.

The committee submitted its report to the House on Monday.

There is high security presence on the road leading to the Assembly and inside the complex.

A source, who works with the Assembly, told PREMIUM TIMES only staff and journalists are being allowed access into the Assembly.

The source requested not to be named because he had no permission to speak to journalists on the matter.

Politics / Lagos Withdraws Application To Appeal Judgment Of Al Mustapha, Shofolahan by eespunge(m): 12:35pm On Nov 30, 2013
Written by Yejide Gbenga-Ogundare - Lagos
Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:55

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, on Friday, struck out an application filed by the Lagos State government seeking leave to appeal its judgment which acquitted Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan.

When the case was called on Friday, counsel from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mr Femi Adamson, informed the court of a pending application seeking the leave of court to appeal its judgment.

Adamson, however, in an oral submission, prayed the court to strike out the application, which had also been withdrawn by the respondents, due to effluxion of time.

Al-Mustapha, who is the former Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, and Shofolahan, a former aide to late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, were sentenced to death on January 30, 2012, by Justice Mojisola Dada, of a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere, Lagos State.

It will be recalled that the appellate Court had, on July 12, 2013, quashed the death sentence, for failure of the prosecution to establish a charge of murder against the appellants.

He noted that by the provisions of the rules of court, such application for leave to appeal ought to have been filed before the expiration of 30 days after the judgment.

“My lord, we have an application before this court, dated August 12, 2013 and filed on the same date, for leave to appeal the order of this court delivered on July 12, 2013.

“This application has however been overtaken by time, and so, this court lacks jurisdiction to entertain same. We hereby withdraw this application before your lordship, and we shall ensure that we file all necessary processes before the Supreme Court,” Adamson said.

The application for withdrawal was not opposed by counsels to the defendants, Mr Adedayo Adedeji and Mr Olalekan Ojo.

The lead judge of the appellate court, Justice Shagbaor Ikyegh, in a short ruling, struck out the application.

“This application, having been withdrawn, is accordingly struck out,” he ruled.

The appellate court, in setting aside the judgment of the trial court, on July 12, 2013 held that the prosecution in totality, failed to establish a charge of conspiracy and murder against the appellants.

The lead judge of the court, Justice Rita Pemu, had held that it was foolhardy and unreasonable for the trial court to have so swiftly convicted the appellants when it was very evident that the prosecution had a bad case.

Culture / Re: Who Is Kiliwi Nwachukwu? Is He Real Or Just A Folklore? by eespunge(m): 11:08am On Apr 19, 2013
It's real. He was a superman who was going from place to place to perform. People paid to watch him. I saw him perform at our primary school in those days. I think his real name was Nwozuzu Nwachukwu (or something like that). I heard that "Killi We" was a nickname he got after a fight with a certain man.

Story has it that the man refused to pay him for his services as a truck pusher. Nwachukwu carried the man's goods from either the market or bus stop (I can't really say) to the man's house. After dropping off the goods, the man refused to pay claiming the charge was too high. He tried to walk away and Nwachukwu grabbed him by the hand insisting he must pay. A fight ensued and he pinned the man to the ground. The man's wife came with a wooden pestle to assist her husband. Nwachukwu snatched it from her, lifted the woman up and pinned her on top of her husband on the floor. Powerless, she started screaming, "Killi We Nwachukwu, Killi we Nwachukwu" meaning, 'Nwachukwu, Kill us'

$3m bribery latest: Otedola submits video, audio evidence to IGP
ON JUNE 13, 2012
By Emmanuel Aziken, Kingsley Omonobi, Victor Ahiuma-Young & AbdulSalam Muhammad

ABUJA— Oil magnate, Femi Otedola, yesterday, stoked his charge against embattled Rep. Farouk Lawan, by handing over to the police, audio and video evidence of how Lawan got the first installment of the bribe and how he demanded the balance.
Sources close to Otedola told Vanguard yesterday that besides submitting the video and audio evidence,he told Police investigators inAbuja how Farouk mounted pressure on him with a list of senior officials of the House who he claimed were to be settled with the bribe money.
Meanwhile political leaders from Lawan’s political base inKanohave disowned him.
The evolving scandal nonetheless, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC waded in yesterday with an admonition that the bribery scandal should not in anyway distract from the process of implementing the recommendations originally reached by the Lawan committee.
Meantime, the House leadership was last night meeting on how to respond to the damaging revelations spewing from the scandal. Among the options as learnt is to bring forward the House resumption from the scheduled Tuesday, June 19, 2012.

Sources close to Lawan were still upbeat, yesterday, insisting that the Police was working on the call logs in its custody, with which they were expected to clear the embattled lawmaker.
Otedola, Chairman of Zenon Petroleum appeared before the Special Task Force constituted by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar at precisely 10.55 a.m. yesterday. He told the panel headed by Commissioner of Police Ali Amodu that Lawan collected $500, 000 in cash and the Secretary of the committee, Boniface Emenalo collected $120, 000 in two installments of $20, 000 and $100, 000 respectively.

The video evidence
He produced a video recording of Lawan collecting the $500,000 in his residence and disclosed that the money in marked notes was provided by the SSS. He also disclosed that Lawan made “desperate” efforts to collect the balance of the money subsequently.
According to Otedola, Lawan said the money was to be distributed to other members of the House of Representatives who could help in suppressing the indictment of Otedola or his companies.

Otedola told the police that the persistent demands by Lawan for the balance of the bribe made on telephone were recorded in audio format. Both the audio and video recordings of the transactions were submitted yesterday.
A source privy to the developments disclosed: ”Farouk put pressure and kept on calling for the balance and when the pressure became unbearable, Otedola said that the two agreed that the balance should be flown in a chartered plane toAbuja. However, on the day the money was to come, Farouk said he would be in plenary and gave Otedola a name and phone number of somebody who would meet him for the money.”
Asked if the Police had recovered the money, a senior officer close to the investigation said yesterday: “First of all, the money was at no time handed over to the Inspector General of Police. Secondly, we have asked Hon. Lawan and the House to hand over the money to us and so far they have refused.

“We are told that the money will be kept as exhibit and only presented in a court of law. The question arising now is when has the House of Representatives become a security agency. What about the fear of tampering with the money, how do we guard against it if the money remains with the House?”

On what the next line of action would be if the House continues to hold on to the $620, 000, the source said, “The IGP who is the one investigating the scandal is currently on official assignment outside the FCT. As soon as he comes back, he will give us directives on what to do and we will take it from there”.

Otedola’s appearance before the Police yesterday was on his own volition Vanguard learnt yesterday. Sources close to him disclosed that Otedola went to the Police to give them the evidence of the alleged bribery following earlier denials put forth by Lawan.

Confusion trails Lawan’s documents
Meanwhile, confusion yesterday trailed the documents put forth by Lawan in which he claimed that he had written the leadership and the Chairman of the House Committee on Anti-Corruption, Adams Jagaba.
He first denounced the claim on Monday night, saying “there is no connection between my committee and the fuel probe committee and I was not given anything please thank you for calling to confirm from me.” Yesterday, he turned hostile as reporters sought clarifications from him.
”I have told you not to call me again on this matter; no comments,”Adamssaid.
Meanwhile shock and disappointment was evident in Lawan’s constituency in Shanono,Kanoyesterday as news of the scandal filtered among the people the embattled Lawan has represented since 1999.

Ali Katako, Commandant Bagwai unit of Askarawan Kwankwasiyya, a group associated with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP noted that the development is self imposed, adding that ”the only regret we seem to be nursing now is that this development has put us on bad light”.
Similarly, the Bagwai PDP council chairman, Alhaji Inuwa Zangina Dangada on his part said “if in the end a prima facie is established against the lawmaker, he should be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
In Shanono Local Government, a stalwart of All Nigerian Peoples Party, Abubakar Usman, revealed that the lack of sympathy for the embattled legislator emanated from his own negligence.

“You only identify with someone that recognizes your existence but go round and find out whether anyone from this town appears to have shown concern on what has befallen a man they can legitimately claim to be one of them.”
He said that Lawan has not impacted on his people, and no traces of his developmental project in any of the two local Government councils that made up the Federal constituency.

$3m bribe scandal: Farouk Lawan owns up

Rep: Otedola made $620,000 part-payment, but I briefed IGP, House
...My story, by Zenon Oil boss

BY
AKUNNA and IHEANACHO NWOSU, Abuja
Tue, 06/12/2012

The controversy over $620,000 fuel subsidy bribe allegation deepened yesterday with the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee that probed the fuel subsidy regime, Hon. Farouk Lawan, accusing Chairman of Zenon Oil and Gas, Mr. Femi Otedola, of offering a $3 million bribe to spare his company in its report.

He said Otedola made a $500,000 down payment with a promise to pay up the remaining $2.5 million if the committee spared Zenon, but that the matter had been reported to the police. He dismissed Otedola’s claims that he and his committee’s secretary, Mr. Boniface Emenalo, collected $620,000 bribe from him unaware it was a sting operation as “diversionary,” saying Otedola actually offered Emenalo $100,000 to shield Zenon during the probe.

Lawan said the probe had subjected his life to a chain of threats, but that he remained unshaken. The lawmaker said shortly after Otedola approached him with the money, he duly informed Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes.

In a letter dated April 24, 2012, Lawan wrote: “Attached (to the letter) is the sum of five hundred thousand dollars only, offered to me with another promise of two million, five hundred thousand dollars.”

The lawmaker said that his decision not to raise the matter on the floor of the House was deliberate, as he did not want anything that would overshadow the fuel subsidy probe.

“I had considered bringing this issue as a matter of privilege on the floor of the House later today (April 24), but I am concerned that the controversy it will generate will dwarf the contents of the report, which needs public attention so that necessary reforms in the sector could be effected,” the letter read.

“Given the desperation of Mr. Otedola, handling this matter, in a firm but diplomatic manner, is necessary as he had also made some veiled threats which put me and members of the committee in a delicate situation.”

To underscore Otedola’s desperation, said Lawan, Emenalo, had in a letter dated April 24, 2012, raised the alarm that Otedola offered him $100,000. “I wish to inform you that I was on his invitation, at the residence of their Chairman, Mr. Femi Otedola, in Maitama (Aso Drive ) this morning and he offered me the sum of one hundred thousand US dollars in two bundles of $50,000 each. The money is hereby forwarded as evidence,” Emenalo’s letter read.

The Acting Inspector-General of Police(IGP), Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, said Lawan had on May 9, 2012, directed a task force to interact with him. The Acting IGP in the letter marked CR:3000/IGP.SEC/STF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL 2/309, drew Lawan’s attention to an interview he granted a national newspaper on April 28,2012, directing “a discreet investigation into the matter.”

The Commissioner of Police, Special Task Force, Ali Amodu, signed the letter. In another letter dated May 16, 2012 also marked CR: 3000/IGP.SEC/STF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL 2/319, and signed by Amodu, the IGP requested money exhibit, names of witnesses and other material evidence from the lawmaker

In a response dated May 31, 2012, Lawan told the IGP that the House leadership had referred the matter to the relevant committee for investigation. The IGP, in a letter to the Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, dated June 4, 2012, said investigation had been launched into the matter.

Titled: “Investigation activities: Letter of invitation in a case of criminal conspiracy and attempt to pervert the course of justice by offering gratification,” the office of the IGP stated that “the Inspector-General of Police had directed a detailed criminal investigation into the matter.” But in an interview granted ThisDay yesterday, Otedola stated his own version.

The Zenon boss narrated how at the beginning of the probe, Hon. Lawan had approached him to get some insight into how the downstream oil and gas sector works. This, he obliged Lawan by ensuring that his managing directors of Forte Oil Plc and Zenon Oil appeared at the subsidy probe during its public hearing after the two firms were invited by the committee.

Mr. otedola said that the committee was informed that Zenon does not and never made claims for subsidy payments because the company deals solely in the importation of diesel, a product which he said, is not subsidized.

Zenenon Oil Managing Director, Mr. Kanmi Kareem Otaru, had denied that the company had anything to do with the subsidy regime. “For the avoidance of doubt, Zenon never participated or benefited from the subsidy scheme or Petroleum Support Fund (PSF)”.

Otaru said going by the PSF Act: “Zenon Oil couldn’t participate in it because we don’t have a network of PMS retail outlets which was one of the key criteria beneficiaries must meet and as such, we are not qualified to participate to draw from subsidy payments on PMS. So, we never collected as records will show”.

Otedola said that in spite of Otaru’s clarification made at the hearing, Lawan still approached him a few days before the report was to be tabled on April 18, 2012 before the House of Representatives demanding money so that Zenon’s name will be kept out of the report”.

“When this happened, I was very angry and reminded him that Zenon has never participated in the subsidy scheme and that it would be criminal to rope in the company for something it didn’t do. “But Lawan responded, stating that several other marketers were playing ball and had offered the members of the committee large sums of money to ensure that their companies’ names were not published in the report”, he said.

The Zenon boss said that he initially backed at Lawan’s alleged attempt to extort money from him and to the lawmakers that he would not pay up, as the company had not committed any crime. Otedola said that he could not believe it the next day when the report came out and Zenon’s name had been listed under the category of companies that had bought foreign exchange from the Central Bank, but had not imported petrol.

The amount ascribed to Zenon in the report was $232,975,385:13. Reacting to the development yesterday, some lawmakers spoken to were divided on the matter. While some expressed outrage at the allegation, saying it had further dented the image of the House, others dismissed it as a ploy to shield “friends of those in power.”

They, however, refused to speak on record, choosing to align with the official position expressed at the weekend by their spokesman, Hon. Zakari Mohammed. The House spokesman had said the leadership would investigate all the allegations levelled against some of its officers when they return from break.

Said one lawmaker; “You know we are on break and can do very little until we reconvene on the 19th. This is sad. We were just smarting from the damage (Hon. Herman) Hembe did to our reputation. Now this,” a member, who didn’t want his name in print, told Daily Sun.

When we sought why he didn’t want his name in print, he said: “The House leadership has taken a position on the matter. It would be wrong for me to say something that would be out of sync. Another member, who chairs a standing committee, said that the allegations were weighty, but cautioned that restraint be exercised on the matter.

A female lawmaker told Daily Sun that she was surprised that Lawan was fingered in the allegation, saying he was a man who had always striven to leave above board.

“What is happening is unfortunate. Farouk (Lawan) has chaired several standing and ad-hoc committees from information to appropriation, from inter-parliamentary to education. He had been in the system long enough to know that fire burns, reason I nurse my reservations on the allegations against him.

However, a principal officer disclosed that the House would not be able to take any stand until the 19th when it reconvenes. “As matters stand, we have to allow the relevant agencies conduct their investigations,” he offered.

Politics / Re: Subsidy Probe: I didn't Collect Any Bribe - Farouk Lawan by eespunge(m): 9:16am On Jun 11, 2012
24 hours after the leadership of the House of Representatives disowned alleged bribe takers; Farouk Lawan, Jagaban Adams Jagaban and Boniface Emenalor, the leader of the syndicate, Lawan today found his voice to deny the bribery allegation against him even as he described the video showing him collecting part payment of the total bribe sum as fake.

Not many is however swayed by Lawan’s audacious latest defence that the video footage showing him collecting $500,000 cash from the chairman of African Petroleum, Femi Otedola in his Maitama, Abuja residence in the wee hours of the day was manufactured to embarrass him and rubbish the findings of his ad-hoc probe committee. Full text of his statement obtained by ireports-ng.com in Abuja this evening reads as follows:

“My attention has been drawn to several newspapers and internet stories alleging that a prominent member of the House ad-hoc committee on petroleum subsidy demanded and received the sum of $600,000 as bribe from an oil marketer.

I wish to categorically deny that I or any member of the committee demanded and received any bribe from anybody in connection with the fuel subsidy probe and I believe this is evident from the thorough an in-depth manner the investigation was carried out and the all encompassing recommendations produced there from as approved by the whole House.

The general public is hereby reminded that during and after the investigations, we have severally raised alarm on pressures on us from different quarters. In particular, I wish to refer to the front-page publication in the Leadership Weekend newspaper of 28th April 2012, captioned “Marketers Offered Subsidy Committee Planeload of Dollars,” where we alerted the public that a marketer promised to fly in a jet loaded with US Dollars which he “intended to share to both the House Leadership and members of the ad-hoc committee” to influence the outcome of the report.

This clarification is necessary in order to clear all the insinuations being bandied about and, more importantly, to enable the Government concentrate on the implementation of the report.

The present mudslinging is not unexpected in view of the calibre of people whose actions and inactions were found wanting in the report. I am aware that in their desperation to discredit the report and divert the attention of the public from the real issues of large scale fraud in high places established in our report, a video footage displaying a caricature of my person allegedly having a dealing with a marketer reminiscent of the military era when dignitaries were invited to the Villa to watch a video clip of a phantom coup involving Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is already in circulation.

I wish to assure all Nigerians that the sanctity of our report remains unassailable and it will be in the best interest of the country if the relevant authorities faithfully and conscientiously implement the resolutions of the House.”

Lawan’s latest denial however contradicts his earlier defence before the House leadership that he collected the money to play along

Fresh scandal brews over Farouk Lawan’s $600,000 bribery scandal

BY OKEY NDIRIBE AND EMMAN OVUAKPORIE

ABUJA-There are indications that fresh trouble is brewing at the House of Representatives over allegations that Chairman of the House’s Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Subsidy Hon. Farouk Lawan was involved in a bribery scandal worth $600,000 last month.
Already there are speculations that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may have invited Hon Lawan over the bribery allegation which sources say have already resulted in the Speaker of the House Hon. Aminu Tambuwal disowning the legislator over the messy incident.
It was gathered that Tambuwal had confronted Lawan over the issue in a meeting of Principal officers of the House where the Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Subsidy was summoned to defend himself over the allegation.
Sources said that Hon. Lawan had initially denied the allegation when it was put to him by the Speaker but froze in shock when he was confronted with details of what transpired at the address where officials of an unnamed oil company had given him the huge amount of foreign currency which had been marked.
It was further gathered that unknown to Hon Lawan, the entire incident was recorded by video after which copies were sent to a former Head of State who handed it over to Tambuwal.
It would be recalled that in the wake of the controversy that was generated over the Federal Government’s planned total withdrawal of subsidy from petroleum products last January, the House of Representatives set up the Adhoc Committee to probe how the subsidy fund that was appropriated by the National Assembly in the past had been disbursed.
Among the findings of the House was that despite the fact that only N400 billion was appropriated for payment of oil subsidy in 2011, over one trillion naira was spent. It was also alleged that a lot of the payments were made to phoney companies.

Why FG renamed UNILAG Moshood Abiola varsity
Written by Taiwo Adisa, Abuja Monday, 04 June 2012

Further insights emerged on Sunday into the report which the Federal Government relied upon to rename the University of Lagos, Moshood Abiola University of Lagos.

A report put together by the committee which recommended the renaming of University of Lagos indicated that besides the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, there is no other Nigerian who has contributed towards the nation’s education advancement as much as the late MKO Abiola.

It was also indicated in the report that most top universities in the world are named after individuals who have contributed to educational advancement of their communities.

Examples were given of top universities like Havard in the United States of America, Stanford University named after Leyland Stanford in the United Kingdom, John Hopkins University and Duke University, among others, with the report stating that Abiola’s contributions in the area of education tower above all other aspects of human life.

The committee further noted that contributions in the area of education and human development are lifetime and generational contributions which cannot be equated to achievements in sports and recreation.

According to sources, the decision of the Federal Government to hounour the late Chief MKO Abiola with the University of Lagos was never an accidental decision but a decision based on full investigation of his contributions to Nigerian democracy, educational advancement and sporting prowess.

The report stated that Abiola was on record as the only Nigerian whose contributions to education were only second to that of the sage, Chief Awolowo.

Said a source with insights into the report: “He (Abiola) is seen as a Nigerian who supported the growth and rise of men of character, courage and fairness.

“Reports available to government indicated that besides Chief Obafemi Awolowo, no other Nigerian has contributed to the educational advancement of Nigeria more than Abiola.”

“He built educational infrastructure in all institutions in Nigeria including state universities nd polytechnics. No other Nigerian has done that. He built hospitals and others with his money.

“Hs contribution to knowledge through the establishment of concord newspapers which produced many Editors amnd media greats who are conriuting to the development f Nigeria to day is unquantifiable. He did not just establish concord newspapers, he also established community concord, which promoted unity and development of nigerian languages.

“From available records to the government, he gave over 1 million Nigerians scholarships from primary to university. While his contribution in sports were legendary but he was seen to have only used his personality to support sports and whoeever you raise in sports, once he or she dies or leaves the stage that is the end of the story.

“But contributions to educational advancement of persons remain a lifetime and generational gift. The resolution of government was to lok at the area Abiola achieved more both tangibly and intangibly.

“Some had suggested that UNAAB could be named after him, but that would make Abiola only an Abeokuta man which he was not. He was a true nigerian and only a prized asset of FG like UNILAG will do his image a deserved honour.”

Sanusi denies committing plagiarism against US Don
……says I’ve not been served any court process

ABUJA- Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, wednesday, denied allegation
that he copied the research work of a United States based Nigerian Professor, Victor E.
Dike and presented it as his own ideas at a public lecture he delivered in Edo state on
November 26, 2010. Sanusi who refuted the allegation via a press statement that was issued by the Central
Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Wednesday insisted that he did not write the said paper that
culminated to the lawsuit currently pending before the Abuja Division of the Federal
High Court. It will be recalled that the court presided by Justice
Adamu Bello, on Monday, summoned the CBN governor to
appear on May 31 to defend himself over his alleged
complicity in acts of plagiarism. The Court equally granted the plaintiff, Prof. Dike, who is
an Adjunct Professor at the School of Engineering and
Technology, National University, Sacremento and Chief
Executive Officer and Founder of Centre for Social Justice
and Human Development in California, leave to paste the
court processes at the Notice Board of the apex bank, situated within the Central Business District, Cadastral
Zone AO, of Abuja. However, the CBN boss denied receiving the court papers,
just as he refuted allegation that his security personnel
thwarted efforts by the court bailiff to effect service on him. The statement which was signed by the Director, Corporate Communications at the
CBN, Mr Ugochukwu A. Okoroafor, reads: “The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria
has been drawn to reports in the media regarding a suit against the Governor, Sanusi
Lamido Sanusi, by one Victor E. Dike, who is said to be a professor of Engineering and
Technology, National University Sacramento, USA. “It is important to provide some clarifications on the matter. First, as at the time of
release of this statement, no court papers in respect of the said suit, had been served
on the Governor. “Furthermore, and for the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that
Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi did not write the said paper. Governors of the Central
Bank of Nigeria, just like Chief Executive Officers of similar institutions in Nigeria and
abroad, deliver papers, not in their personal capacities, but on behalf of the institutions
for which they are chief spokespersons. “In the case of the CBN, such papers, even though presented by the Governor,
represent our collective views and are prepared by professional researchers in the
relevant departments of the Bank. We can vouch that such papers are prepared in line
with strict global and ethical standards. “As a responsible public institution, we always cooperate fully with court officers and
our well trained and responsible security officers have ever been under strict
instructions to treat them with the appropriate dignity and respect they deserve. “While awaiting details of the alleged suit, it is pertinent to state that speeches
delivered by the current Governor, focus on the core mandates of the Bank and are
direct contributions to discourse on national development. “At a time like this, when the Bank is deeply committed to critical reforms of the
banking system, the least we can do is to focus on the arduous task of bequeathing to
the nation a financial system that will effectively improve the collective welfare of the
Nigerian people.” Specifically, the plaintiff, told the high court that he was the original author of a
research wok entitled:“Review of the challenges facing the Nigerian Economy: (Is
national development possible without technological capability?), which he said the
CBN boss copied verbatim and delivered as his paper during the eight convocation
ceremony of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State. Prof Dike said he was forced to approach the high court for redress upon discovering
that the CBN governor had in six separate occasions, plagiarized his intellectual works,
just as he has asked the court to make a declaration that the defendant is in breach of
the copyrights of the plaintiff. As well as to grant, “a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from citing the two papers delivered by the defendant on the 26 th of November 2010, and 10th of December 2010 respectively as his work, having breached the Copyrights of the
plaintiff without proper reference and citation in accordance with Copyrights Acts.”

Politics / 2011: Turai Yar'adua Eyes Senate by eespunge(m): 3:39pm On Jul 13, 2010
HISTORY will soon earmark a space for Hilary Clinton and Turai Yar'Adua, as First Ladies who found their ways into the Senate. That is if the plans currently being hatched in favour of the Nigerian former first lady sees the light of the day. National Daily, reliably gathered that plans are in top gear to grant Turai Yar'Adua, widow of late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua the PDP ticket to vie for one of the three senatorial slots in Katsina State. Sources said this plan was hitherto shrouded in secrecy, considering all the intrigues that happened when the late President Yar'Adua was on the sick bed, but became obvious a few days back, when the Yar'Adua family marked the 40 days fidau at the family house in Katsina. The fidau, which attracted a lot of northern political bigwigs, sources say, availed the platform Turai needed to test her political potency, and feelers around her say the coast looks obviously clear, at least for now. Already some aides of the former First Lady are said to be busy mobilizing support for Turai amongst the political elites in the north.

“Every rough edge is being smoothened at the moment, and in due course the people will see Turai being 'rewarded' with a seat in the Senate. Some of the northern elders feel it is necessary after how she seems to have lost out in the political permutations following her husband's death. The general impression really is that it will be appropriate if she gets the ticket to represent the people now”, a source said While Turai Yar'Adua, may be regarded as a featherweight in the political circles of the country, there is every reason to believe that she has actually learnt the necessary intrigues on the job, being a First Lady for close to eleven years. Aside the way she handled the politics of her husband's medical trip abroad sources say, she is banking on the sympathy of Nigerian women to actualize this dream.

To this end, Turai is in talks with the National Council of Women's Societies, (NCWS) as well as Minister for Women Affairs, Hajia Bala Usman and Mrs. Josephine Anenih respectively, and the plot is that the women folk will fly the widowhood kite to garner enough sympathy for Turai's cause. This may not be the only tactic as the Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shehu Shema is said to be favourably disposed to the idea and may be assembling men and resources to lend unalloyed support to the bid to make the former First Lady represent Katsina North Senatorial Zone come 2011.

Turai Ya'Adua is also said to be counting on the support of her two sons in law who happen to be big wigs in Northern politics, where they hold sway as executive governors. A source told this newspaper that it is most likely that the politically powerful but unconstitutional Governors' Forum' may also play a role in this quest to get Turai Yar'Adua to be part of the National Assembly in 2011.

“A lot of support is being mobilized to achieve this and with the calibre of people who have identified with this cause, I am confident that Hajia Turai will clinch the ticket come 2011. Some people even feel she should have been nominated to complete the tenure of her dead husband, but settling for the senatorial seat will not be out of place”, another source told the paper.

Obviously, the plan to foist Hajia Turai Yar'Adua may indeed meet one strong opposition in spite of the seeming goodwill believed to be following her. And this is likely going to be in the person of Senator Mahmud Kanti Bello, the senator representing Katsina North in the National Assembly. Kanti Bello, who is a notable politician was a senator in 1992, and has also been in the House since 2003. Once a party chairman, he is believed to be one of the reliable allies of the former president, but no one can ascertain if he is part of the game plan to install Turai at his own expense.
It would be recalled that Turai's fiery ambition has often pitched her against some Nigerians. This came to the front burner as her dead husband lay dying in a Saudi hospital, a few months ago; a fact that made people to conclude that she was calling the shots in Aso Rock from Jeddah.

Before her days in Aso Rock, Turai is believed to have wielded a lot of influence when her husband was the governor of Katsina state for eight years. On a particular instance, she was said to have literally seized the affairs of the state, while her husband was battling an ailment in a German hospital for almost seven months. Events of the coming days will however prove if the former First Lady can still glow like the tigress she is believed to be.

darlingD or whatever u call yourself, I think you’re problem is that you derive pleasure in fantasizing. How can you claim to be in love with someone you’ve never seen before, more so when she had told you that she is married with a son? How dare you insult her by saying that she isn’t married to the right man? What makes you think that she is not happy with her man?
Romance / Re: My Girl Confessed To Me She Double Dated During Our Courtship. Shd I Forgive Her by eespunge(m): 5:28pm On Sep 25, 2007
If I may ask: have you been sincere to her? You didn’t say whether you are married now or have plans for that. If you’re just into a relationship that involves premarital sex, bear in mind that ‘he who sins with you can also sin against you’. Anyway that is ‘by the way’.

I think your girl deserves some commendation for her boldness (after all, how would you have known if she had not decided to confess?). But, you should find out why she did that and if such a thing would not repeat itself in the future. In trying to find out the reason for her action, do not condemn her. If she has sincerely decided not to repeat it, you’ve got to forgive and forget. Do not use that against her even in the future or give her the impression that you no longer trust her. But if there are indications that such a thing is likely to repeat itself in the future, you have to think twice. A broken engagement is better than a broken marriage.
