Go ahead with the Lexus but you should worry more about the hybrid than the fuel.

Okay. Please what about Lexus GX460. It is premium unleaded required. Will it do well with our fuel or must I use octane boosters?
Thanks for you concern bro. God bless you.

Thank you sir for your comment.

The use of octane boosters has become commonplace( and by implication necessary) in Nigeria due to the influx of high end luxury cars whose engines have been designed to run on premium fuel (RON 93 or higher) for optimum engine performance and minimizing the likelihood of having pre-ignition concerns (due to very high compression ratios) when using the available fuel (RON 87 or lower grin) at our pump-stations over the country. This is because a lower octane fuel than what is recommended can damage such engines and catalytic converters in the long term as it causes ‘knocks’ or irregular ignition.

Therefore, Octane boosters are basically additives to your fuel to increase the octane number of the fuel. These additives, which may include alcohols, ether, manganese or other chemicals improve the performance of the engine in terms of either acceleration, top end speed, efficiency and horsepower.

Please note that octane boosters have negligible or no effect on low performance road-going cars. If a vehicle manufacture has recommended a RON rating 87, using octane boosters will be a waste of money.

My opinion? If your vehicle requires(not recommends) premium fuel, then you may have to use octane boosters.
In the case your vehicle requires octane boosters, ensure you buy octane boosters from reputable brands.

N.B. This is why Some Lexus brands will always be expensive in Nigeria (if you know what i mean) grin

Please I'm thinking of getting a Lexus GX460. It is stated premium unleaded required. Based on your experience with Lexus cars, will this car do well with our Nigerian fuel or must I use the Octane boosters? Thanks in anticipation of your response.

Interesting topic. But it is a great problem for us all. Dangote has no solution to our problems because by the time he decides to operate his refinery, the fuel will be obsolete. Currently Toyota cars are euro 6, same thing with Peugeot. In 2021, Dangote fuel is Euro 5, which will not be suitable for the current cars and so the chase continues with premium fuel for our cars. We have been waiting for a respite from his refinery but he has nothing to offer.
As for octane booster, it is the best solution. Amg Benz cars uses octane booster in the US because the minimum number is 93 and not 91 for other Benz cars. If the US has premium fuel and they still produce octane booster, then what now happens to us that have regular unleaded and refused to use the booster. I have been using the booster since 2007 first in my e Class and later in my Range Rover Sport. The first time was Toulene and I saw the difference instantly but there are other additives to add and the measurements, so I started using the real deal. There are some with mmt which is not so good but when you finally get the right one, to travel is like going to the next street. My fuel consumption from Lagos to Akure Nnpc was 14 litres for 100k In a v8 Range Rover Sport no matter the speed. Most Range Rovers are recommended and some are required. It depends on the market that the car is coming from. Octane booster will not clog your cat or the injectors. It is not what anyone will tell you that they will program. The sensor will send signals to the pcm that the car is using premium fuel and the pcm will raise the bar for the injectors to burn fuel evenly and the combustion will be smooth. Ditto when the car uses regular fuel, the sensor will cry out to the pcm that this nigga want to scatter his car and the pcm will reduce the performance of the car and increase the fuel consumption. Mercedes, BMW, Vw, Porsche and Audi are not finding it funny driven in Nigeria. The Benz will be crying and smiling. Scan a Benz without the check engine light and you will read a lot of cylinder misfires with damage to the cat. Octane booster is available for sale. I sell the best in town.

Please what is your advise I'm looking at importing an RX 450h for my work and it is premium unleaded fuel required. Should I get the car and rely on the available octane boosters or should I just forget about it and go for highlander hybrid which is regular unleaded? I just like the luxury with the lexus. Please help a brother.
