Don't you sound very petty and aimless..?

Another aspect of this program that sounds very heart warming is the fact that they have on site tech support in all the schools using the device, they have tech support offices in all the local governments to take care of serious issues and on top of that, the factory is right there in Osogbo.

They have solar charging stations in all the schools. This is a well though out program and they are even making money by selling the preloaded Opon Imo to private schools and other governments in Nigeria....

They are creating jobs in Osogbo by insisting the company set up their manufacturing factory in Osogbo hence setting the state up as an ICT center. The software developers and engineers are all local talents and they provided their services for 9 months free of charge to the state which I find very commendable, this is giving back to the community..

This man just changed the face of learning and education in Nigeria for good..

God bless them all for this inspiring effort...

cyril83: At least we have only one reasonable comment from osun, brawse I would like to applaud the effort and also commend the initiative, I cant help but raise some questions on the aforementioned issue.
How sustainable is this effort/project? the problem with political office holders is that they like to involve themselves in elephant projects that wont stand the test of time. I cant help but imagine the level of corruption that would have gone into this project. How many state owned public schools do we have in Osun State and how many students (SSS) do we have in all schools. I guess over (7,000 to 15,000) on the average, will the State be ready to provide these students with tablets, have we considered the cost of procuring these tablets (for all SSS students) will not only furnish each State school with e-libraries, but will also provide good books for their consumption.
Most of these students cannot handle a computer talkless of the ability to handle and maintain tablets. I think it would have made better sense if all schools have very good e-learning libraries, tastefully furnished with computers (desk tops). This will ensure a win-win situation for all students and not a select few.

2. will the State be ready to continually provide tablets for subsequent students who move from the JSS arm to the SSS arm, and if so at whose expense?

That's my own point of view tho, i need somebody to convince people on this matter.

I don't have time to go back n forth, this is Opn Imo detailed website and FAQ?

Broken TV: Eko ilee i want ask a simple question and i want answer, if it was pdp government that construct the brigde and tolls on it what will be your reaction.

Silly question. You are assuming they know how to build bridge or do anything . The fact is, toll or no toll I don't care, just build infrastructures and make our lives better which so far the useless and worthless PDP don't know how to do.

This bridge was built in less than four years while the useless people are still in capable of building a shorter village Niger bridge after 14 years rule.

I hope you know these tablets aint gonna last forever. If they get spoiled, will the government replace it. Where's the money coming from and how many people is this scheme going to reach? Osun is no Akwa Ibom and Delta and the cost of these gadgets will milk the state. I'm not saying it's not a good initiative but when governments in Nigeria decide on projects, the cost must be put into consideration.

Btw, are you an ACN member because your assertions on thread points to that fact.

!
You keep going on and in about cost when one of the major benefits of this idea is saving money. These tablets cost way way more than regular textbooks and apart from loading their school work on the tablets and the kids learning better, they also get computer literate at the same time which is a superior advantage over many kids in Nigeria.

Akwa ibom library is a scam and I doubt any kid is benefitting from it because while these opon imo are free, the kids in akwa ibom have to pay N1000 to use the bogus library so its pretty much useless and defeats the propose and thats if f there was any to start with...

[s]I'm not here to debate fuel subsidy but I just raised the issue to buttress my point of hypocrisy.

By the way, can all those who staged fuel subsidy protest in Lagos be said to be the very poor? Was it the poor that supplied the T-shirts, music and food for the protests?
Kerosine is one product that is mostly used by the poor but it has been selling far above the cost fuel (for as much as N150per litre at times) for a very long time. No one seems to be interested in that. Why? Because the middle class and elites have nothing to do with Kerosine.

This same ACN e-warriors that are showing us how beautiful a toll plaza is and opposed removal of fuel subsidy by PDP led govt may tomorrow promote fuel subsidy removal by an ACN led govt. That is Nigeria for you, where issues are analysed from the prism of partisan and ethnic sentiments.

Anyway, I will say nothing further on this fuel subsidy issue to avoid derailing the thread.[/s]

In as much as the infrastructural development of LASG is laudable,I insist that roads and bridges are one of the basic ameanities any sane government owes its citizenry.these services are why citizens pay taxes.BRF is the only opposition candidate that I can vote for if he contests for president but I have issues with these sort of things.if there must be tolls, remove taxes and toll all government services. Tolling amounts to double taxation if you ask me. I'm praying the FG does not copy this cos PDP will take it to the extreme, heck, the air we breathe will be tolled

Again, the fact that you pay taxes doesn't mean you shouldn't pay for any infrastructure. There are other services you are enjoying free with your tax money. Fact remains that we have a lot of huge projects in the pipeline and we need money to execute them, money that your tax money can not take care of so instead of borrowing and accumulating debt, we pay for it with our own money by recycling our own money.

Many places I used to call home (Californian to be precise) will ask you to vote for bonds to fund projects like highways and bridges and upon completion, they toll you to payback that bond money.

They/I voted for the bond measure to build high speed train from Southern Californian to Northern California so it matters not if you pay taxes or not, you are getting charged to get on that train so your double taxation is kind of redundant.

Your taxes have limitations and we all must pay extra to take care of the things we need that our tax money can not take care of.

Who knows, maybe this money is going to fast track the metro rail to speedy completion, maybe it's going to pay for the 4thMB, maybe it's going to fund Ikorodu road reconstruction. Either way it goes, it's a win win situation for us..

The bridge belongs to the people of Lagos, we own nobody for that bridge and are going to recycle our money to do better things to better our state.

Eko o n baje lai lai..

I don't even get this needless headache sef because from what's out there, Lagosians are happy with this bridge, they are happy with tolling, they are even willing to pay more for better infrastructures..

Obviously, they are getting a huge bang with their money so don't cry for the, because they are happy...

http://premiumtimesng.com/news/137174-lagos-assembly-summons-commissioner-fasholas-aide-over-lekki-ikoyi-link-bridge-toll-fees.html

The two officials are to appear before
the assembly on June 6.
Members of the Lagos State House of
Assembly have summoned the
Commissioner of Works and
Infrastructure, Obafemi Hamsat, to
appear before the House to clarify the
proposed toll fees on the newly
constructed Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge

Again, legislative oversight is nothing but asking question and getting clarifications, it's not saying you can not do it or we are shutting you down and till they do, your meaningless article remains redundant and irrelevant..

http://www.nigeriancurrent.com/news/item/2660-lagos-assembly-suspends-debate-on-lekki-ikoyi-bridge-toll.html

Someone please tell eko-ile that not all Lagosians are happy.

Members of the
Lagos State
House of
Assembly, on
Tuesday,
witnessed a
stormy session
as members
debated a bill
which requested the endorsement of the House
to introduce a toll system on the Lekki-Ikoyi
bridge due for commissioning today.
However, the House resolved that the state
government should not commence immediate
toll collection on the bridge until it is able to
critically examine the bill and pass it into law.
While suspending further debate on the bill till
Thursday and Friday, the House noted that the
bill came to members very late and given the
technicalities contained in the drtaft, members
would need to take their time and seek experts’
collaboration on the passage.
The bill, with the title: Concession Agreement for
Electronic Tolling System (ETS) of the Lekki-
Ikoyi Toll Bridge was moved through a motion
by the Leader of the House, Ajibayo Adeyeye.
The motion had been seconded by member,
Honourable Sultan Adeniji-Adele.
Adeyeye, while speaking on the bill, stated that
a company, with name Lagos Tolling Company,
had been registered to be in charge of the
concession of the bridge.
According to him, 73 per cent of the gross
revenue from the tolling would go to the state
government, which constructed the bridge,
while the remaining 27 per cent would go to the
Lagos Tolling Company.
But as the Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, was
about to approve it, the Deputy Speaker,
Honourable Taiwo Kolawole, observed that the
opinions of members needed to be sought by
the speaker.
