Politics / Re: Is This Red Cap Indigenous To Igbo Tradition? by ekpehay: 1:42am On Nov 23, 2023
funny thing is that you all are making a fool of yourselves, cos that cap isn't just an Igbo cap, its more of a regional cap, originally worn by members of secret societies across the former easterner region.
Infact it's origin isn't traced to igboland, rather the cross river part.
It's worn in Akwa Ibom, C/Rivers, Rivers, down to Delta amongst the various tribes...
Politics / Re: LP: Hon. Anthony Chinasa Abiola Wins Umuahia Central Constituency by ekpehay: 3:36pm On Mar 19, 2023
I don't think speaking Yoruba is a criteria to become a govr in any part of the nation, is it in the constitution that one must speak any particular language to be qualified?
sreamsense:

He did not just jump from nowhere overnight to vie for the position. He has been living with his people whom he wants to represent before now have known him as typical Igbo man. According to him, is not too long he started attaching abiola to his name because he wants to deceive yorubas into voting for Chinedu which is deceitful . This -abiola can speak Igbo fluently of people he wants to represent, but Chinedu Gbadebo can't even speak his language and never identify with people he wants to represent fully. No amount of deceit can make Yoruba people not to check and verify who wants to represent them properly. Now he has been taught lessons in Lagos now, he will now have time to concentrate on learning Yoruba language now since he already hired teacher for it
Culture / Re: Obong Okon Ita Clan by ekpehay: 5:05am On Sep 14, 2022
Obong Okon Ita married an Igbo woman in order to bring peace btw them during the conflict.. she bore a son
the Igbo refers to him as ulu Okon (translate to Okon second child) in Igbo.
After the death of Obong Okon Ita the prince allied with the Igbos along with the Akpa people and rebelled against his brother.
Unfortunately for him, he died before the war ended.
interesting Arochukwum is a multi ethnic society, comprising the Igbos, the Akpa people whom they asked for help and Ibibios ( would had been the soldiers and followers of the rebel prince)
Inokon is a corrupt form of ulu okon by Ibibios, they used that to refer to the Ibibios that were in Obot Okon Ita (now Obinkita) after the conquest and sometimes the Arochukwu as a whole..
they class as Inokon clan.

Obong Okon Ita simply translates to King okon 3 (Ita means three)
so it could simply mean king Okon (the third)
The kingdom was Ibom Kingdom with it's seat of power at Obot Okon Ita (could roughly be translated as palace of Okon the third)
based on my understanding, i think it was widely referred to as Obot Okon Ita other than Ibom Kingdom...
it is now a town in Arochukwu, Abia state, known as Obinkita, which is a corrupt version of the main name by the Igbos who could pronounce it.
