Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Sevilla defeated his side 2-1 in the Europa League semi-final match on Sunday night because the Red Devils didn't take their chances against the La Liga squad when they supposed to score goals.

He also urged Man United not to make 'marquee signing' but to sign quality this summer in an attempt to improve his squad ahead of next season.

Man United was defeated by Sevilla in the Europa League last-4, following two goals from Suso and Luuk de Jong.

Bruno Fernandes did score for Solskjaer’s men in Germany.

“We’re working to improve what we have. We have had spells with injuries. We are always looking to improve the squad,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters at the post-match press conference.

“It is not about a marquee signing, it is about quality. The right personality that fits into the group.”

He added: “It is one of them if you take chances you win comfortably, not always the case in football.

“We had moments in spells in both halves where we should have scored a few.

“We have a young team. Some spells showed that this group of players would have to learn and get some consistency in their play.

“The keeper had a fantastic game. It’s disappointing we didn’t score because we have got players with that quality.

“Since February we’ve been fantastic. Then again, it’s disappointing to go out.

“We have come quite a distance. Exciting to work with the boys but you could see at the end, tired legs and tired minds.

“We definitely need to improve to move up the table and take steps in the cups. I have never had three semi-finals in one season.”

Manchester City Playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has been announced Premier League Player for the 2019/20 season.

De Bruyne surpassed three Liverpool players, Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold to win the annual award on Sunday.

The Belgian international also beat Southampton striker, Danny Ings, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, and Leicester’s Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy to the award.

He was the only Manchester City player to be nominated for the prize.

De Bruyne scored 13 goals and registered 20 assists for Man City this season.
