Politics / Anti Corruption Crusade - Buhari Style By Sunny Okoro Of Tgn by Elektron: 1:59pm On Jan 22, 2015
Nigerians are about to make another critical decision as a people, as they head to the polls on February 14th to exercise their civic rights in choosing a new leader that will pilot the affairs of this great nation for another four (4)years. While I will not want to go into the long rhetoric’s of politics, I will want to concentrate on one of the major issues that have become a reoccurring decimal in the campaign slogan of the opposition and a major selling point of the Buhari candidature which is; he Buhari fought corruption to a standstill. After studying the entire Gen. Buhari’s regime vis a vis certain arrests that were made, I am forced to ask this simple question “What fight against corruption did Gen. Buhari truly embark on?”
Listening to President Jonathan’s defence on his own way of fighting corruption as the most formidable and realistic measure, which is; to create a strong institution, rather than chasing people while the roof is still leaking, I cannot but agree with him more when I read the story of Professor Ambrose Alli of blessed memory.
Prof. Ambrose Alli for the benefit of those who do not know, was the first civilian governor of the defunct Bendel State now Edo and Delta State of today. He is a Prof. of Morbid Anatomy, a well-read man, whose reign as a governor transformed the landscape of education, infrastructure and policies of today’s Niger Delta.
I want us to have a deep knowledge of this man, his antecedences and his performance as a governor in just four (4) years.
For many of us who do not know, Ambrose Alli was the one who took the Shagari Government to court and won the right for other non-federal universities to be accredited and opened, this singular act is what gave rise to the numerous states and private universities we have today. He established the Edo State university which of course is the first state university in the entire country. Now if you must know it is the campus extension of the Edo State university Ekpoma, in Abraka of today’s Delta State, that is now what we know as the Delta State university.
Ambrose Alli is on record to have established close to 600 secondary schools scattered all over today’s Edo-Delta States. Under his housing policies, he built numerous low cost estates, these estates, like the Bendel estates are still standing today. It was Ambrose Alli who established the college of education Ekiadolor,Agbor,Warri and Ozoro. He established three (3) polytechnics. During his administration, it was free services and drugs in state owned hospitals, his roads are still very visible all over Edo and Delta States. He also established the derivation of oil revenue as a constitutional reality in Nigeria, by successfully taking the Federal Government to court to establish fiscal federalism, an act which obviously Gen. Buhari and many ill minded Nigerians, still hate till date. It is with the allocated 1.5% Prof. Alli was getting then, that he used judiciously to achieve this much, imagine him today with 13%.
Now the sad tale of all this is that, this same performer was sent to jail by a Buhari’s regime claiming he was corrupt and he was imprisoned until he went blind and was later released after the Esama of Benin himself, had to pay the government the N983,000 they claimed he MISAPPROPRIATED and not stolen.
I, as a citizen of Nigeria, will not condone any act of corruption no matter how minute the amount is, but there must be proof that indeed corruption has taken place. Buhari’s regime could not prove that Prof. Ambrose Alli stole, they could not prove he tried to enrich himself with state funds because, at the time of his arrest all they could get from him was a parcel of land he bought before he became governor. The kangaroo tribunal set up to try the eminent Professor couldn’t find anything against him, even with all the hostile tactics employed..He was later sentenced to 100years imprisonment on trumped up charges.
My question now is, why was Gen. Buhari so determined to jail this man even without evidence? more worrisome is the fact that this same Buhari was involved in some unexplainable funds at the NNPC while he was a minister before Shagari’s regime, who setup kangaroo tribunals or jailed Gen Buhari for these unaccountable NNPC funds? So why should he now jail this great man for 100years on grounds of misappropriation, an act he also was guilty of?
The answer is simple, Gen. Buhari in his quest to justify his reasons for toppling the regime, felt people must see him as someone that keeps to his word therefore,in the absence of the real corrupt politicians who had fled, the innocent and hard working performers should pay the price so as to please the citizenry, how sad.

Politics / Yes!! Rt Hon Terhemen Tarzoor Is A Village Boy Written By Teryila Ibn Apine by Elektron: 9:29am On Dec 22, 2014
The nomination of the Rt Hon Dr. Terhemen Tarzoor by the PDP has been greeted with wild jubilation and celebration from all segments of Benue people. Majority of Benue people are of the view that for the first time the PDP have chosen a fine gentleman of the league of extraordinary gentlemen to pilot the affairs of the state.
Call Hon Tarzoor a village boy and you will be very correct. He was born into the family of a village head, here in makurdi, schooled at All saint Primary School, a public school, attended community second sch, proceeded to the prestigious Mt St Gabriel's Secondary School Makurdi and there after had all his degrees in our own Benue State university.
Hon Tarzoor knows the challenges of the educational sector in Benue state. Hon Tarzoor walked the streets of makurdi like any other graduate looking for a job to start a living, he worked at the our lady of perpetual help cathedral makurdi and moved to the health information centre as a personal assistant to the health coordinator. We would agree that only humble people will agree to work as personal assistants, especially to a priest. Working as a personal assistant to a priest is very different from the political personal assistant people scramble for. Here, you absolutely don't have time and decisions to make.
There was later a clarion call on Hon Tarzoor to contest for the makurdi north seat at the house of assembly. Even as he was reluctant his people insisted that it must be Tarzoor or no one else. As humble and respectful as he is , he respected his peoples call and contested and won with a resounding victory to represent his people. Tarzoor was immediately elected as the majority chief whip. The responsibility of instilling discipline in the house was vested in him. This he did with a magnetting dexterity to the admiration of all members.
As chief whip Tarzoor easily endeared himself to his fellow members and staff of the assembly. Again when the seat of the speakership was empty, the members said Tarzoor must be speaker or the Assembly won't have a speaker. He was elected speaker immediately and unanimously.
As speaker Hon Tarzoor coordinated the house very well. The house under Tarzoor served as a check to the executives, it was during his speakership that members walked out of the executives at Obudu. For the first time members left no one in doubt that it was not business as usual. The manner bills were subjected to deep scrutiny and robust debate was all to the credit of the dynamic speaker Tarzoor. We would all agree that it is challenging to coordinate people with divergent backgrounds, aspirations, social class and beliefs without acrimony. I feel deeply that speaker Tambuwal whose handling of the house of representatives have won him world wide commendation must have been a studying the manner Tarzoor handled the state assembly.
As speaker Hon Tarzoor increased the salaries of workers and turned around the working condition of staff. He commenced the renovation of the assembly complex to not just give it a befitting status but to make it conducive for members to work. This earned him a nick name ' the man wey sabi' Hon Tarzoor was indeed a speaker of the people. Erring local Government chairmen were quickly called to order. Public office holders knew it was time to sit up. Across the nation people who have been speakers of state houses of assembly have performed exceptionally as Governors.
The later conspiracy by a cabal to steal his victory and give to the opposition is highly regrettable. I feel deeply that heavens took him away from the scene to prepare him for leadership. Who knows maybe his continued stay as speaker would have made him deviate from his people based nature.
There has been a steady generational shift since 1999, successive Governors have always been younger. Amongst the contestants only Tarzoor fits into this generational shift. The youth have always criticised the elders for paying lip service to handing over power to youths; the young shall grow, Hon Tarzoor is here to answer that old time saying that the youth are leaders of tomorrow.
Other qualities that stands Hon Tarzoor out are his humility, maturity, political experience , educational qualification, charisma, sincerity of purpose, ability to deliver and carry every one along. His ever smiling face makes people easily attracted to him. His youthfulness and people oriented nature has placed him in a better position to meticulously analyse the views and aspirations of the people of Benue.
If Mt St Gabriels will produce a Mike Aondoakaa SAN, who became very popular for chatting the course of Benue, fixing them in positions authority then another one has emerged in Hon Tarzoor. He will sure place Benue people in strategic positions of authority and members of boards and federal parastatals.
Today, the Rt Hon Dr Terhemen Tarzoor, the man whose desire to turn around the fortune of Benue, a man who intends to make Benue a home for all, a man who is willing to give unemployment a red card, a man who is burning with the desire to make Benue the real food basket of the nation by returning the state to mechanised agriculture, a man who holds dear to his heart the security of his people, a man who has done all his studies in Benue and knows the difficulties of studying here, a man who feels that Government should not be handled with levity, a people oriented man, a man of the people, the man wey sabi, our Government, a. Government for the village boys and girls is contesting the Governorship on the plat form of the PDP. The man whose desire to take Benue to an unimaginable level of development knows no bounds is here, moving from house to house, door to door, heart to heart, conscience to conscience, soliciting for your votes to win the Governorship come 2015. He says I do not want to be a boss or a ruler, he says my people come, together let us lead Benue state. The prince is ready.
Politics / Group Cautions Urhobo Nation !! by Elektron: 2:32pm On Dec 16, 2014
Just saw this post and thought I should share it. I think its worth reading.

URHOBO MUST BE CAREFUL!!!

“URHOBO UNITED WAKE UP AND PREPARE FOR THE BATTLES AHEAD! Mr. President mandated Tompolo. Sen.Manager and his Kinsmen to mobilize against our guber candidate David Edewvie. Its in record dat d Urhobo's gv Mr.President more votes than d entire Bayelsa state in d 2011 election. we must unite to ensure dat Mr.President does not win a single ward in our areas. The same Tompolo and his cohorts are acting like pirates in power hijacking and looting by changing names of those who already won their house of assembly primaries @ d PDP secretariat Abj. What a NONSENSE! Mr.President call Tompolo to order, to avoid another round of crisis in delta State. May wise counsel prevail!” – extracts from an SMS broadcast on the 15th Dec 2014

It is very heart rendering to read some of these inciting comments being peddled around social media and some online blogs by some mischief makers on behalf of the Urhobos in Delta State, the extract above is from an SMS been circulated by some elements claiming to be speaking for the Urhobos. Several of these messages have been flooding the media circle since after the PDP primaries and we the members of the Urhobo Youth Initiative Movement (UYIM) find this to be totally absurd, self serving and in fact cannot but equate it to a grand design by some paid group of persons whom by virtue of their selfish aims want to plunge the Urhobo nation into some hate related course with her neighbors.
We have watched carefully and noticed that all of these unholy comments that is been circulated around have nothing of importance to the urhobo people but rather a self serving exercise by some individuals whom out of their bias over the just concluded PDP governorship primary elections wants to plunge every Urhobo son and daughter into some tribal conflict. We as members of Urhobo Youth Initiative Movement will not allow some few elements to use us as puns in their grand political design; we therefore warn every indigene of the Urhobo race to ignore these calls and totally resist any such plans by this group of persons.

Firstly, we want to state categorically clear that we shall not because of this election have any conflict with either our Ijaw or Delta North brothers and sisters because these groups have supported the Urhobos tremendously when it was our turn to produce the governor of the state on two separate occasions. It is only fair and just that we the urhobos as a sign of good gesture support the course of our Delta north neighbors now that it has been bestowed on them to produce the governor.
The unholy media attack on the person of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo AKA Tompolo and some of his fellow Ijaw kinsmen like Sen. James Manager by a particular so called Urhobo group is totally unacceptable and should be discouraged by any reasonable Urhobo indigene. In an election, individual have the right to vote for whoever they so please, if chief Tompolo and his kinsmen decide to maintain the peace and unity of Delta by doing the right thing with their conscience - which is not to impose an Ijaw man with their strength and connection as this group actually attested to, but rather to play fair by respecting the zoning arrangement of Delta state which actually favors the Delta North at this moment, then we think these men are true Deltans and meant well for the peace and unity of our state.
We believe that instead of instigating the Urhobos against their Ijaw neighbours we should rather commend them for their show of patriotism by not trying to use their closeness to Mr. President to destabilize the state like many would have done by trying to impose an Ijaw man as governor. This we find very commendable and should be applauded by all well meaning Deltans most of all the Urhobos who have benefited immensely from the support structure of other ethnic groups.

Also this group should refrain from declaring that the Urhobos will not vote for Mr. President because of whatever grudges they are nursing. The Urhobos are solidly behind President GoodLuck Jonathan and are fully in support of his transformation agenda and the progress and development it has ushered into this country, we shall vote massively for him come feb 14th 2015 and also we shall make sure our group mobilizes strongly to see that we return the favors we have enjoyed from our Delta North brothers in past elections to see that Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa is elected the next governor of Delta state come Feb 28, 2015.
We have always been a people of peace and appreciate favors and no one shall because of his own personal loss drag our beloved Urhobo nation into some tribal and hate related conflict situation with our Delta brothers and sisters.
Long Live Delta State!, Long Live The Federal Republic Of Nigeria!!
