Family / "I Did Not Kill My Husband" Wife Of Chuks Okebata Reveals Her Side Of The Story by ELLAOLOLADE(f): 6:39pm On Jan 17, 2017
Ever since a video emerged on Facebook showing late Chuks Okebata and his wife engaged in a war of words after which she called the cops on him, people have been accusing Chuks' wife of having a hand in his death.

Chuks' wife has reacted to the damaging videos making the rounds by telling her side of the story. According to her, she called the cops on her husband for her own safety because Chuks constantly subjected her to physical abuse.

Read her story as told to Amanda Chisom below;

"My own side of the story

Amanda , I once came to you about my husband and his incessant abuse and cheating. Yes I am the wife of the man who was assassinated, and I am just distraught. I do not even know where to start but it is only right I tell my own side of the story. I am innocent, God is my witness that I did not kill my husband or the evil that my husband’s family is portraying me to be, yes my sister in-law posted that video to make me look evil but the part she did not tell anybody was that I was calling the police to save me because he always beat me up and I was told to call the police whenever he started and that was exactly what I was doing, from the video you would see that I did not fight him or answered him. Should I have allowed him to kill me?

Amanda, we have been married for 13 years since I was 19, it has been beating upon beating, I have gone through surgeries because of beating he gave me. How can I kill my husband, we live together, till the day he left for Nigeria, I packed his things , how could I kill him. Who do I know to order a hit on the father of my children? I have no interest in his properties as suggested after all we built every thing together. God knows I am innocent. He went to Nigeria and was going to club spraying dollars and showing off, revealing his locations . They want to pin my husband’s death on me, my husband was not assassinated. He was kidnapped, because he is a military man he is always with a gun and when he shot to death one of thekidnappers, they shot him. Why is my family leaving out information about what happened and pinning it on me?

I never threatened him to kill him, I am a working woman with a paying job and have no reason to kill him because of properties . All I just want is peace to mourn and raise my children. You can confirm my story from those people in my home town. My husband was careless in a country with high rate of crime and was kidnapped, if he had not shot one of the robbers all we would have been talking about is paying ransom not death. Amanda why would I kill the father of my kids, why would I choose his death over a divorce if things were that bad. I have two boys, who will help me raise them? I am completely innocent of all the allegations. I have endured all this years through his beating and cheating and I did not leave or kill him, why would I do it now? All I ask is that I am left to mourn in peace and the killers found and prosecuted.

Nne biko help me

I’m an innocent victim here

I love my husband and I’m still in tears

I’m mourning him and people are accusing them wrongly. My children are crying daily."

Career / How I Finally Raised Enough Money To Go Back Home After 10 Years In Lagos by ELLAOLOLADE(f): 10:54am On Jan 10, 2017
For years, I had basked in the euphoria of living in Lagos; I always imagined settling down in the heart of the city. I had been speaking with my uncle about this and he assured me that once I was done with school, I could move in with him.

My new life started in Lagos and I knew almost nothing about the hustle and bustle of the city. I would sit in my uncle’s store and observe daily transactions. Days, weeks, months, years passed and I was getting used to the life in Lagos. I understood quickly how the business was run and I would usually take full control whenever my uncle was unavailable.

The only challenge was for me to get my own source of income having stayed with my uncle for over six years. I signed up to be a Quickteller Paypoint agent and used a corner in my uncle’s store as my office. From time to time, customers come in to make all sorts of bank transactions and bill payments and I could see the joy on their faces. The joy of saving the transportation cost and time always brought them back.

Six months into being a Paypoint agent, I have started making extra money and the experience has been fantastic. Living in Lagos has been challenging but in the end I have been able to explore opportunities through Quickteller PayPoint.

It is December now and I am planning to visit the village after 10 years in Lagos. I think it’s the right time as I have been empowered by Quickteller Paypoint.
Nairaland / General / Lagos Set For Bigger, Bolder Musical Fiesta by ELLAOLOLADE(f): 2:26pm On Dec 23, 2016
Lagos Set For Bigger, Bolder Musical Fiesta

...unveils artistes line-up for the eight-day celebration in 5 locations

The Lagos State government has announced its preparedness to host what it calls a better, bigger and bolder edition of the popular One Lagos Fiesta across the five divisional zones of the state, starting from Christmas eve on Saturday, December 24.

In a press release signed on Thursday, December 22 by the state's Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the government said residents and visitors in Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island will be treated to the best of musical entertainment, cultural displays, comedy and cuisine from the state.

The fiesta will run daily from 12 midday to 12 midnight, with the first six hour dedicated to entertainment for children.
The event made its debut in 2015 after the Lagos Countdown was rechristened One Lagos Fiesta and spread across the five divisions of Lagos.
According to the Commissioner, the fiesta is running on the same template like last year's but with three notable additions to make it more impactful this year.
“Firstly, the duration of the fiesta is longer this year. Instead of the five days of last year, Lagosians will have eight days of fun and camaraderie. Secondly, there will be space and reward for new, up and coming talents across the five zones. We have already had a very successful audition where 50 successful candidates out of 999 individuals were picked from each of the zones, making 250 finalists in total. They will have the opportunity to perform on the same stage as the superstars that will be featured this year. Two finalists will emerge from each zone by Friday the 30th of December. Those lucky 10 will then slug it out at the grand finale of OLF at the Eko Atlantic stage with three winners that will be rewarded handsomely.”
" More importantly, this year's fiesta has a broader base of artistes, beyond hip-hop and contemporary music. There will be more traditional troupes and local artistes from each zonal division and the fiesta will welcome participation from non-hip hop superstars such as King Sunny Ade, Chief Ebenezer Obey, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1), Sir Shina Peters, Queen Salawa Abeni, Lagbaja, Adewale Ayuba, Abass Akande Obesere and Sulaimon Adio Atawewe who will grace the fiesta for the first time."

Ayorinde added that the fiesta would kick off on a bright note from Day One with superstars like Olamide, Phyno, Tiwa Savage, 2Face, MI, Kiss Daniel, Reminisce, Falz, Adekunle Gold, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, Patoranking, Humble Smith and Tekno as well as renowned disc jockeys and stand-up comedians from across the five regional zones.
"The beauty of One Lagos Fiesta is the fact that as a creative economy in all the five divisions of the state is being developed, residents also have the opportunity to watch several superstars that they only see on televisions or would have spent a fortune to watch in Lagos Island or Ikeja for free," Ayorinde said, adding that residents in each division will also have the opportunity to welcome Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the show in their areas, as the Governor has promised to be present in each of the zones.

The Commissioner assured Lagosians that adequate security measures and emergency medical services have been provided in all the zones throughout the duration of the fiesta. He urges revelers to be orderly and cooperate with both security agencies and organizers that have been mandated to ensure a memorable crossover celebration for Lagosians.

Jobs/Vacancies / Fun, Games And Insights: This Is NOT Your Typical Nigerian Job Interview by ELLAOLOLADE(f): 12:05pm On Oct 24, 2016
Fun, Games and Insights: This Is NOT Your Typical Nigerian Job Interview

Corporate recruitment in Nigeria is quite predictable. Most times, you need to develop a longsuffering attitude to be able to go through the nerve-racking and stressful process.

This usually starts with sending your CV - an overhyped document filled with a summary of your academic qualifications, where you’ve worked and random activities from your adult life – mostly made up and sugarcoated.

You pray and fast to ensure you’re called in for a written test.

You eventually get an email from the employer asking you to come for a written test. This could resemble anything from a Secondary School entrance quiz to NASA test for rocket scientists. You know better than to be fooled by the simplicity of GMAT. The simpler the questions, the harder they really are. No joy there.

You pray and fast again so you can get a callback for an interview.

You finally get the interview date and deep inside, you know it’s about to be question and answer time, so you cram all the answers suggested on job websites and Nairaland, practicing well ahead of D-Day. The internet is a beautiful place.

You pray and fast again waiting that they call you back to tell you that you passed and you can start work in a month’s time, but instead they call you and ask you to go for medical check-up. *Sigh*

All of this could take weeks maybe even months. At the end, if lucky and you finally make it in, you may just find out after the first week that it’s all been a waste of time and you can’t really fit into the system. Your personality just doesn’t flourish in a place like this.
The lucky employees discover early and move on, while many more are stuck frustrated for several years, trapped in a job that cramps their style.

But wait… What if there’s an interesting recruitment process that makes more sense than all this? A highly interactive and fun process for an international job placement, starting out with a test/interview that reveals the company culture, gives you an overview of what your life will be like working there, while also telling you about your own personality?

Imagine all that fun, and then the possibility of getting yourself that dream job!
